Chapter Four
Luke turned the wheel of the General Lee hard, and almost crashed into a tree, as the orange stock car made the difficult turn.
"Cuz' are ya tryin' ta kill me?" Bo asked jokingly.
"If I was, the General and that tree would be havin' an intimate relationship right about now!" Luke replied.
Bo shook his head and glanced at the mirror to see the jeep appear around the corner.
"Here they come." Bo said.
"Yeah, and here Rosco comes." Luke said as he gazed up towards the horizon to see the familiar flashing red and blue lights on Rosco P. Coltrane's police cruiser.
Bo looked up as well and immediatly saw Rosco's car.
"Dang it Rosco! Can't he jus' leave us alone fer once!" Bo said as he banged his hand on the sealed door of the car.
Suddenly a gunshot rang out from right behind the General, causing both Luke and Bo to jump.
Bo jumped so high that his head hit the roof of the General, Luke however, almost lost control of the car, but managed to regain it in enough time to prevent the car from crashing into some trees.
"What a situation!" Luke said.
"What do ya mean?" Bo asked worriedly as he shot Luke a look.
"Well, we either mess with them, and more than likely get ourselves shot," Luke said, pointing to the jeep behind them, "or, we mess with Rosco and probably get ourselves jailed."
"How 'bout we mess with both of em' and lose em at Snake Nation Creek?" Bo asked.
Luke smiled and high-fived his cousin.
"Bo, you read ma mind!" Luke said.
Bo did his classic "YEEHAW!" with Luke joining in seconds later as he drove the General down the road leading to the Snake Nation Creek.
-----------------------------------------
"Enos, this is Sheriff Rosscoo P. Coltrane here. I've got the Duke Boy's on Possum Road headed towards Snake Nation Creek, over." Rosco said into his CB.
"I read ya sheriff." Enos replied as he drove down Dry Creek Pass, which was thirty two point five miles away from Snake Nation Creek.
"Well hurry up and get yer hind end over there or you'll be a lookin' for a new job by sun up!" Rosco warned.
"Right away Sheriff, I'm gone." Enos replied as he did a 180 and roared off in a new direction.
-----------------------------------------
"Great, there's Enos, just waitin." Luke said as he, Bo and the General were getting closer to the jump.
"Right where the General's gonna land!" Bo said as he straightened up and gripped the passanger seat tighter.
"To late ta stop now, let's jus' hope he wakes up to the fact that if he don't move, his lap'll full of the General before he can say Bob's yer uncle." Luke said as the two front tires of the General hit the ramp.
Seconds later the General was airborn and the tell-tale "YEEHAW!" from both boys would have told anyone listening how much fun the two Duke's were having.
Bo's smiling face turned to one of sheer horror when he looked at the 'landing site' and Enos' car still hadn't moved.
"ENOS, MOVE!" Bo yelled as he moved his arms in a futile attempt to warn the young deputy.
Enos, however, stepped out of his car and stood facing the General head on with his knees knocking together.
"STOP! BO AND LUKE, YER UNDER ARREST!" Enos yelled as he raised his hand.
"ENOS!" Both boy's chorused as the General just barely soared over Enos' head.
It was so close that the left rear tire neatly took Enos' hat right off of his head!
The General crashed to the ground before all four tires squealed and the General shot off again.
Bo and Luke looked back in time to see Rosco's car and Mandie and Russel's jeep attempt to make the jump, but when both vehicle's launched themselves at the same time, both were in an inward angle.
Both cars takeoff's were good, but when it came to jumping anything, whether it was barns, bridges, or even the curbs in town, ain't no one could do it better than Bo and Luke Duke.
While the jeep and cruiser were still in the air, they came into contact and crashed to the ground in the shallow creek, spilling the occupants of the jeep into the now muddy water.
"EWW!" Mandie squeeked as she flung some mud off of her hair.
"I'm a gonna get that no good son of our's, if it's the last thing I do!" Russel swore as he struggled to climb out, but only succeeded in tripping and riding a small mud flow back to the bottom of the creek.
