Hello readers and welcome to my rewrite of Harry Potter: Professor of Mahora Academy, now named "The-Boy-Who-Taught-Class-3A". As mentioned previously in the original fic, there's gonna be a few changes.
One, Harry will be joining Mahora the same time as Negi (Or at least around that same time). Two, there will be more plot deviation than in the previous fic. And three, the pairings will be developed more naturally, rather than strictly planned out. There are still plans, but I won't follow them rigidly. So, I hope you all enjoy.
(Small edit, 10/24/20: I made a small correction, and made Harry's age sixteen instead of fifteen. That falls in line with the timeline I created for this fic.)
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Negima.
Chapter 1: The Boy-Who-Lived Comes to Mahora
Today, Negi Springfield is graduating from his magical academy. For years, he's been studying and studying, to not only become a Magister Magi, but to also be at the same level as his father and someday meet him once again. Now, all that time and effort is paying off, and he's about to enter the next stage of his training.
It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, something to celebrate with his sister and best friend, Nekane and Anya. However, instead of a moment of happiness and joy, it became a moment of panic and confusion. Why?
Cause Negi's task is to teach a group of highschoolers in the country of Japan.
"There has to be a mistake!" Nekane, Negi's older sister, urged the headmaster, with her, Negi, and Anya following him as he walked. "Negi is only ten years old! There's no way he could be a teacher at that age!"
"Yeah! And not only that, but Negi always spaces out and is a real shrimp!" Anya added in. "He'll be eaten alive by those students!"
But the headmaster wasn't having it. "If that's his task on his diploma, then that's the end of it." He said firmly. "I expect to work hard at this Negi, in order to become a Magister Magi."
Unable to take anymore of what's being said, Nekane nearly fainted.
""Nekane!"" Thankfully, Negi and Anya managed to catch her before she could hit the ground.
"Hmm…" The headmaster observed the three silently, as the two children helped Nekane up, before speaking. "Don't worry too much. The principal of that school is a friend of mine, so you'll be cared for. Plus, he won't be alone with this task."
That caught the three's attention. "Really?" Nekane asked, with some relief in her tone.
The headmaster nodded. "He'll be assisted directly by a young man that has a… considerable reputation in the magical world, so he'll be in capable hands." He then put his focus on Negi. "Just make sure to do your best, alright?"
Negi looked down for a moment, thinking about the task given to him, before looking back up in determination. "Yes, sir! Understood!"
(Japan)
"Wow! This is amazing!" Negi said in awe. The city here is much bigger than the small town in Wales he lives in, as well as much more crowded.
If it wasn't for some of the Japanese citizens helping him out, he was sure he would've been lost. Now, he's just on the train, getting close to Mahora Academy, the school he's assigned too.
'I wonder who's gonna be assisting me…' Negi thought to himself, as he held onto a grab handle with a cane. "The headmaster says that he has a considerable reputation in the magical world… but I can't think of anyone who would be teaching here.'
Before he could think about it more, Negi suddenly felt himself pushed and squished by several different passengers. After he got his bearings back, he looked up to see several different high school girls, either looking at him curiously or with smiles/giggles.
'T-There's a lot of women here.' The redhead noticed, with a small blush. 'Remember what Nekane said; be polite with any girls I meet.'
It didn't take too long for the train to get to Mahora. Once the door opened, all of the students ran out, with Negi merely walking out. As he did, the child teacher witnessed an army of students running, or driving, on the road, at a frantic pace.
"What's going on? There's so many students here!" Negi stated in surprise. "Is Japanese schools always so hectic?"
"Considering this is my first time here, I'm not sure myself." A male, british voice spoke from behind him. "Though I'm sure we'll figure it out after a few days."
Negi turned around to the sound of the voice, and was face to face with a black, cloaked teenage boy. "Negi Springfield, correct?" The cloaked stranger asked. "I've been waiting for you."
"U-Um, yes." Negi replied, too taken off guard to properly say anything. Shaking his head, he spoke more clearly. "Are you the one who'll be assisting me with teaching?"
"I am." The cloaked man confirmed with a nod. "I've been approached by one of the teachers here to help you with your training. I'll be providing whatever assistance you need, whether it's through teaching or magic."
"Oh, um, I'll be in your care, then. Thank you." Negi replied, giving a slight blow. He then looked up at the boy curiously. "Might I ask who you are? All I've been told is that you're someone with a considerable reputation in the magical world."
That brought a chuckle from the cloaked person. "You could say that." And with that short statement, the teen pulled back the hood of his cloak. The reveal of his face caused Negi's eyes widened in shock and awe.
The teen in question was a black haired boy, with emerald green eyes and pale skin. He also has glasses much bigger than Negi's own, as well as a lightning shaped scar across his forehead.
"My name is Harry Potter." The boy introduced himself, reclining his head. "I hope we get along well, Negi."
Negi knew who he was. Of course he knew. What child doesn't know the Boy-Who-Lived? He's the one who managed to weaken the most evil mage known to man, Voldemort, at the age of one, coming out with just a lightning-shaped scar; someone traveled around England and the magical world as a child, facing those that threatens the lives of others; someone who, just last year, killed the very same evil mage and a number of his followers.
Harry Potter is a living legend, even to mages outside of the magical world; and to think he's actually standing right in front of him, much less becoming partners with such a person!
"A-A-Are you really, Harry Potter?" Negi asked in awe. "THE Harry Potter? The Boy-Who-Lived? The Young Traveler? The very same?!"
That brought a chuckle from the green-eyed legend. "The very same, yes."
At the confirmation, the redhead's emotion transferred from shock to excitement. "I've always wanted to meet you!" Negi gushed, getting right up to Harry with stars in his eyes. "I've heard all the stories, about how you saved a group of students from a nest of trolls, how you took down a Basilisk with just a sword, and the number of times you faced the Death Eaters! You're my second favorite mage in the entire world, one of the two people I inspire to be!"
"Okay, okay; settle down, Negi." Harry laughed lightly, pushing the nine-year old back slightly. "We can talk a bit more later, if you want. Right now, we need to get to our meeting with the principal before we're late."
That got Negi out of his fanboy state, pulling out his watch to look at the time. "Oh, you're right! If we don't leave now, we'll be late!"
"The road seems to be cleared up for the most part." Harry observed, looking around the area. "We should be able to use our magic to speed up some. Ready, Negi?"
"Right! Yes, sir!"
(Principal's Office)
"What?! What do you Takahata-sensei won't be our home room teacher anymore?!" Was the shout of one Asuna Kagurazuka. She and her friend Konoka were at the principal's office, along with principal Konoe and Takahata himself.
"Your homeroom is needed for some more important objectives in the school." Principal Konoe explained. "So I need to relieve him of some of his teaching duties for the moment to do so. That's why I hired the two new teachers here."
"But… but…" Asuna couldn't help but say pitifully, looking as if someone kicked her puppy. Konoka could only giggle beside, though she sported a curious look.
"Don't worry too much, Asuna." Takahata tried to reassure. "Both teachers are very qualified, so you and the class should be in good hands."
'That's not the issue here!' The orangette screamed in her mind. However, she stayed silent, knowing that she couldn't really argue with the principal, as much as she wanted to. Instead, she just looked down gloomily.
"So who are the two teachers anyway, grandpa?" Konoka inquired curiously. "And why two teachers instead of just one?"
Before that could be answered, a knock on the door was heard. "That must be them now. Come in!"
With that, the door opened, revealing two boys of obvious english descent, one red headed while the other had black hair. The redhead was a child, probably nine or ten years old, while the other boy was around their age. Both were wearing cloaks, had glasses on, and individual packs on their backs.
"Negi-kun." Takahata greeted, smiling at the younger boy. "Long time no see."
"Long time no see, Takamachi!" Negi greeted back, waving at the older man.
"And I see you've met Harry-kun, here."
The boy nodded his head excitedly at that. "I've never thought I would ever have the honor of meeting him in person!" That had the principal and older teacher chuckling, while Harry merely had an amused and exasperated look.
"Um, Principal? Takahata-sensei?" Asuna spoke up, looking at the two boys with suspicion and confusion. Beside her, Konoka merely sported a curious look. "Why are they here?" This is the girl's junior high, in the deepest part of Mahora.
"Oh? Isn't it obvious, Asuna-chan?" the principal asked rhetorically. "These are the new teachers."
Asuna froze, slowly looking at the principal with disbelief, before slowly turning towards the teen and kid. "Huh?"
"Mind introducing yourselves to your new students, Negi-sensei? Harry-sensei?" Takahata offered.
"Ah, yes." Clearing his throat, Negi gave a short bow to the two students. "My name is Negi Springfield. Starting today, I'll be teaching English at this school."
"And I'm Harry Potter." Harry spoke up next, reclining his head and placing his hand over his heart. "I'll be assisting Negi here with classes here, as well as occasionally be your PE coach."
"...WHAT?!" Asuna exclaimed in shock, while Konoka's eyes widened.
"That's correct." Takahata confirmed with a chuckle. "Little Negi is the smartest boy I have ever known, while Harry here has teaching skills that outmatch even our best professors."
"Really?" Konoka gasped, looking at the two boys in wonder. "That sounds really amazing."
Negi looked down bashfully at that while Harry shrugged. "It's not that big a deal. I only tutored a group of students for several months, nothing more."
"And those students manage to become the top of their classes, capable of matching college level students and beyond." Takamichi countered, his easy-going smile still there. "There's no need to be modest, Harry. Your skills are definitely top-notch."
"B-But sensei, even still…!" Asuna protested. "One of them is merely ten, while the other is our age! Isn't odd for them to be teachers this young?!"
"You know, we're standing right here." Harry remarked dryly. "No need to talk about us like we're not."
"You shut it!" Asuna growled, turning her head to glare at him.
While Negi yelped in fear at the angry glare, Harry merely narrowed his eyes. "I'm sorry, what have I done to earn your anger?" He asked, his tone cold. "I wasn't the one who made the decision; the principal chose Negi, and asked me for help. You may have liked your previous teacher, but stomping your feet like a petty child won't change a thing."
Asuna couldn't help but take a step back at the tone of his voice, her anger vanishing for a moment. His words were… sharp. Icy sharp. Almost like the fangs of a snake.
Before she could say anything, principal Konoe spoke up. "Enough, Asuna." He told the girl calmly, yet firmly. "The decision has been made; for the next three terms, Negi-sensei and Harry-sensei will be teaching English together."
For a moment, Asuna seemed like she wanted to say something, to protest some more. But after a moment, she sighed in defeat and drooped her head. "I understand…"
"Good." Nodding in acceptance, the principal relaxed in his chair. "Also, Konoka, Asuna-chan, do you mind if Negi-kun here stays in your room? I haven't been able to set up a place for him to stay yet.
"Eh?!" Was Asuna's reaction to the request.
"That's okay!" Konoka agreed easily, before turning toward Harry. "But what about Harry-sensei?"
"No need to worry. He'll be staying with some of your other classmates as well." Principal Konoe reassured her.
Finally managing to process what was asked of her, Asuna exclaimed, "What?! From when until when?!"
"Oh, come on." Pulling Negi close to her, she hugged the boy from behind. "Don't you feel bad for him?"
"You know I hate kids, Konoka!" Asuna retorted.
"To the point that you would deny him shelter?" Harry questioned with a raised eyebrow. "Are you really that cold to kids?"
"Listen, you-!"
"Why don't you and Konoka go back to class now?" The principal interrupted, before things could get heated. "I have a few more things to say to Harry-kun and Negi-kun before they start teaching your class. Takahata-sensei will escort you both."
"Ok, grandpa!"
"Fine…"
With that, the two began heading out, with Takahata following from behind. However, just as Asuna left the room, Konoka turned and gave an apologetic look. "Sorry about Asuna; she can be a bit fiery, but she's a nice girl." She then waved at the two. "I look forward to having you two as our teachers."
That earned a smile from both Harry and Negi. "Thanks, Konoka." The older boy said. "I look forward to teaching."
"Me as well." Negi replied after, giving another bow. After making another giggle, Konoka then left the room, leaving Harry and Negi with the principal.
"Now Negi-kun," Principal Konoe spoke, leaning forward from his chair. "This task you've been given will not be an easy one. If it gets too hard, you'll be forced to return home. There are no second chances. Are you prepared for that?"
The redhead gulped, but he held a determined look. "Y-Yes! I'll do it!" He stated firmly.
Nodding, the principal then turned to Harry. "And Harry-kun, your task is to assist Negi-kun in any way possible. Whether in teaching or magic, you'll be guiding the boy to the path of success. If he fails, you fail. Can you do it?"
Harry merely nodded, not as formal or determined as Negi, though there was a glint of resolve in his eyes. "Yes, sir. I'll make sure Negi, and every student under us, succeeds."
"Then it settled," Settling back into his chair, Konoe then stated, "We shall begin today. Welcome to Mahora Academy, Negi-kun and Harry-kun."
(Hallway)
It was silent as the staff guidance officer, Shizuna, guided Harry and Negi to class 3A. Both had their cloaks taken off, with the redhead wearing a green suit with a red tie, while the teen had a black suit with a green tie. During the silence, Negi was constantly glancing at Harry, a mix of nervousness and excitement in his eyes.
It was difficult to contain his enthusiasm over being around Harry. But could any mage blame him? The Boy-Who-Lived was an idol for nearly every mage child, especially as his legend grew as the Young Traveler! What child wouldn't get excited over meeting such an iconic spellcaster?!
Negi have so many questions to ask him! Once they have time, he needs to ask as many as possible!
"Here we are. This is your class." Shizuna announced to them both, stopping at a door. She then handed a file to Negi. "Here's the class roll. Make sure to remember everyone's names and faces, ok?"
"Um, yes ma'am." Negi replied with an obedient nod, before looking through the window. Harry got right behind to look through as well.
'So… these are the girls I'll be teaching from now on…' Negi thought a tad apprehensively. Looking at the class roll, he saw exactly how many students were there. 'There's so many… will I actually be able to teach them?'
The redhead then felt a hand placed on his shoulder. "Don't worry too much, Negi." Harry said from behind him. "You're not gonna be alone with this. I'll help you every step of the way."
Hearing the reassurance from his idol, Negi steeled himself up and opened the door, getting some of the student's attention. "Excuse me…" He spoke as he went inside, getting some of the students' attention. That's when he noticed the chalkboard eraser falling towards his head.
Before it could hit him, however, Harry grabbed the eraser. "Nice prank." The teen remarked to the girls. "But you'll have to do better than tha-"
He stopped mid-statement when he saw Negi tripped on a rope trap. Unable to pull him back in time, Harry grabbed him and used himself to cushion the boy's fall as they both rolled over the floor. Through their roll, a bucket of water hit Harry's upper back and two toy arrows hit his side before his whole back slammed on the desk.
At first, the girls laughed and/or cheered at the successful prank, with Shizuna-sensei having an exasperated expression. But then they noticed who exactly got hit by the prank, stopping said laughter.
"...I stand corrected. That was a nice setup." Harry groaned, laying on his side while still holding a clearly rattled Negi. His back was dripping wet, the arrows lodged at his side, and the bucket somehow got on his leg.
"Eh?! A boy?!"
"Two boys?!"
"Hey, are the two of you okay?"
"We're really sorry about that!"
"We thought you were one of the new teachers!"
Some of the girls went up to the boys, helping them up and taking the arrows and bucket off of Harry. Several of them had alarmed and guilty looks on their faces, though there were some looks of confusion.
"Actually…" Shizuna spoke up, smiling. "The two of them are your new teachers!"
That caused most of them to freeze, as they processed the information. "Eh?"
"That's correct." Standing on his feet once more, Harry patted Negi's back. "Mind starting the introductions, Negi?"
"O-Ok…" Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Negi looked at the students with a steady gaze. "My name is Negi Springfield. Starting today, I'll be teaching English at this school. I'll only be here for three terms, but it's a pleasure to meet all of you."
"And my name is Harry Potter." Harry spoke up right after. "I will be the assistant teacher to Negi here, as well as occasionally sub for Gym. I hope we can all get along for the next three terms."
For a moment, there was silence as the girls took in the idea that a child and boy teenager is gonna be teaching them. But once that moment passes…
"Kyaaaaaaah! They're so cute!"
They were besieged by an army of soft and beautiful girls.
"How old are you two?!"
"Uh, I'm ten years old…"
"S-sixteen for me…"
"Where did you two of you come from? What's your nationality?"
"The back hills of W-Wales…"
"I was born in London, though I've been moving across England for some time…"
"So you're a traveler?!"
"Where is Wales?"
"Where are both living now?"
"I just got here…"
"Same here."
Many of the girls surrounded the two boys and asked them several questions, to which both tried to answer. Both were fairly flustered, as would any boy be in their situations.
Though a few of the girls weren't crowding Negi and Harry, such as Asuna, a little blonde girl named Evangeline, and glasses wearing pinkett named Chisame. "Is this for real…?" Chisame asked, disbelief clear in her face and tone.
Shizuna nodded. "Yes. Absolutely."
"They're really gonna be our teachers?!" One of the girls asked eagerly. "Can really have such a cute kid AND a hottie teen?!" The last part prompted a bigger blush from said teen.
"Now girls, you can't 'have' them. They're not pets." Shizuna admonished, though she was still smiling. "Make sure to treat them as respectfully as any other teacher, okay?"
"We promise!" Most of the girls said cheerfully, as they hugged both Harry and Negi.
While still plenty embarrassed, Harry couldn't help but send an amused glance at Negi. "Excitable bunch, aren't they?" He whispered to him.
"A-At least we're welcome…" Negi whispered back with an awkward smile.
Unfortunately, the moment of levity vanished when Asuna stomped over and picked up Negi by the suit, holding him over the desk. "Ok, brat! I want to know what you did with the eraser!"
That caused Negi to stiffen up. "W-What?" She couldn't have seen the eraser float, did she? Sure, he made it float for a moment before he could move, but he was sure Harry grabbed it before anyone could notice.
"Don't play dumb! I want a clear explanation!" The orangette growled, shaking the now panicking boy.
Fortunately for Negi, someone grabbed her arm and stopped her. That someone was none other than Harry. "Back off, Asuna." He said sharply, glaring at her. "You may have forgotten, but this is your teacher; not a regular kid you can shake for lunch money."
Like in the principal office, Asuna was intimidated by the tone and glare; however, she stood her ground and glared back. "You back off! I'm trying to figure out what that kid did."
"While I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, that's no excuse to ruff up a child or teacher." Harry retorted easily. "That's something a petty little bully would do. Are you a petty little bully?"
Now the orange haired girl was at his face, growling fiercely at the teen. The boy-who-lived merely glared back, not moving an inch from his spot.
The sight of the two teens glaring at each other got Negi panicking once again. 'W-What do I do?! I can't let Harry-san get into a fight! It's unbecoming of a teacher!'
Before it could escalate any further, another voice intervened. "Enough, Asuna-san!" The one cut into the argument was Ayaka Yukihiro, the class president of Class 3-A. "Honestly, harassing and picking fights with both our teachers; I know you're a violent monkey, but isn't this too much, even for you?"
Now her anger was pointed at Ayaka, a vein crossing her face. "What was that?" Thankfully for Negi, she let go of him in order to face Ayaka directly, getting a sigh of relief from the boy.
"Negi-sensei; Harry-sensei." The class president gave a slight bow to the two teachers, ignoring Asuna for the moment. "I've heard good things about the two of you. Both are geniuses who manage to graduate from Oxford at such young ages." She then stood back up to face the two directly. "Teaching has nothing to do with age, so please, continue with homeroom."
"Ah." Was all Negi could say, a tad overwhelmed. "Th-Thank you…" Harry, however, stayed silent, taking the time to calm himself.
Asuna narrowed her eyes at the blonde girl. "What's with the nice girl act, iinchou?"
"Well, it's only natural," Ayaka responded smugly. "Since I'm nice on the inside, I have to be on the outside!"
"What nice girl?" Asuna retorted with a smirk. "You shouta-kon!"
That struck a nerve with the class president, wiping the smile off her face. "Wh…! Take back that scandalous accusation!" Ayaka then tackled Asuna, prompting a fight between the two girls.
'Not again!' Negi cried out in his head, while the other students cheered out the fight. Before he could make any pitiful attempt at stopping the fight, Harry started walking towards the girl.
Just as the girls began throwing punches, the young man got beside the two and grabbed them both by the ear, pulling sharply. "Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!" Both girls yelped repeatedly as they pulled away from each other.
"Enough." Harry stated, his tone flat. "It's already time for class, anyway. No more fighting. Understood?" Ayaka and Asuna nodded rapidly at this. "Good." With that, he let go of their ears, with the two of them cradling their appendage with tears in the corner of their eyes.
That had Negi looking at Harry in awe. 'He was able to break up the fight immediately…!' Clearly, there's a lot he can learn from Harry Potter.
"Thank you, Harry-sensei." Shizuna said gratefully. "Though next time, try not to rile up your students."
That brought a sigh from the boy-who-lived. "I'll try not to."
"Again, thank you." She then turned to the rest of the students and Negi. "Now then, it's time for class girls. I'll leave the rest to you and Harry here, Negi-sensei."
"O-Okay…" Negi answered back, shaking out of his amazement.
With that, Negi and Harry went to the front desk, with the students getting back to their seats and Shizuna leaving the room. The nine year old stood behind the desk while Harry merely stood beside it.
'This is my chance.' Negi thought with determination. 'In order to complete my training, I need to take this seriously!'
And that's the end. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. Haven't made any major changes yet (Unless you count the meeting between Asuna, Negi, and Harry), but I plan to. I just won't start immediately changing everything that happened in the canon storyline. Still, I hope there are some improvements from the previous fic already. Review, favorite, and follow and I will see you guys later.
