Hello readers and welcome to my new chapter. Apologies for taking a while with this. I had intended to post this sooner, but I wanted to make sure this chapter was good, and I may have overthought some things here and there. Gonna try to avoid that in the future.
Anyway, I'm getting a lot of questions of whether or not the characters from the Harry-verse got scaled up or not. And my answer to that? Yes. Yes they did.
I'm aware of the power differences between the Harry-verse wizards and the Negi-verse mages, that Negi alone could take on the Death Eaters and Order of the Phoenix combined. So the characters from Harry Potter, along with any spells or creatures from there, will have an upgrade in power and will be using spells from the Negi-verse, from Voldemort to the Dementors to Harry himself. Not gonna say anymore than that for right now.
Now, with that out of the way, in this chapter, we're gonna continue Harry's and Negi's first day in Mahora. I hope you enjoy.
P.S. I changed Harry's age from fifteen to sixteen in the previous chapter. After thinking about it, this is more logical for the history/lore I set up for Harry and his adventures.
Disclaimer: I do not own Negima or Harry Potter.
Chapter 2: First Day Teaching: Success
Never did Harry think that would ever come to Japan; he also didn't think that he would be asked to teach a bunch of students, to assist the training of a young mage.
But here he is, in front of a classroom of young girls, with a ten year old teacher writing lessons on the chalkboard beside him, standing on an expensive looking stepping stool given by one of the students. 'And this isn't the strangest thing that happened to me.' The boy-who-lived thought wryly.
As Negi was teaching the class, Harry decided to get a chair and observe the class. Specifically, those that know about the magical world, or just a part of it.
'Setsuna Sakurazaki.' Harry thought to himself, as he discreetly observed the girls. 'Mana Tatsumiya. A swordswoman and a mercenary. Those are the two girls that the Dean employs the most for magical concerns. If I know my luck for danger, I'll probably be working with them often.'
His eyes caught another girl, one who was currently looking at him with starry eyes. 'Looks like I have a fan here. Misora Kasuga, one of the student mages here. Looks to be a bit of a tomboy. Hope we can get along.'
The next girl he turned to was Chachamaru. 'A robot. An actual, bloody robot, sitting right in this room! A magic powered one at that. That's definitely up with some of the more stranger things I've encountered.' He then turned to her creators. 'And her creators are sitting right in this room. Satomi Hakase and Chao Lingshen. Those are some definitely smart girls there.'
His next gaze was at one of the front desks, the one near the window and had a ghost sitting there. 'And a ghost too, just sitting there like any other student! Cause why not, right? Why is she even still sitting there, anyway? She's been in the class for sixty years, right? I would go mental if I had to learn the same thing over and over again, for decades.'
'And speaking of decades…' He then slowly turned his eyes towards the back of the classroom. 'Or centuries is probably better. Evangeline A.K. McDowell. The most infamous vampire in the magical world, with one of the largest bounties to boot. To think, she was here for fifteen years, all this time? Powerless and stuck in a little girl's body to boot.'
So there's a swordswoman, a mercenary, a robot, two girl geniuses, a student mage, a ghost, and a legendary vampire in the class of thirty one students; students that he needs to teach, alongside a child teacher/mage. His thoughts paused when he thought about that.
'...Okay, scratch my previous thoughts. This is probably the weirdest situation I've ever been in.' His thoughts were interrupted when he something being shot towards his direction. Quickly, he grabbed the item before it could hit him or Negi, before examining it in his head. He raised an eyebrow when he saw that it was an eraser. 'Who shot that?'
He heard another incoming projectile and quickly grabbed the second erasure piece before it could hit it's target. 'Whoever it is, they are aiming it at Negi.'
Throughout the next couple of seconds, Harry proceeded to catch every erasure thrown at Negi's head, using his magic to fuel his reflexes. By the eighth erasure, he finally managed to catch the attacker.
'Seriously?' Harry thought blankly, staring at obviously annoyed Asuna. 'What does this girl have against us? Or is she really just a bully, just like I said?' He'll need to talk to the principal or Takamachi about this girl at some point.
Thankfully, nothing else happened during the class and Negi was able to teach in peace for the most part. Once the school bell rang, the child mage faced the class, still nervous yet more confident. "Th-That's all for today, class. Remember these lessons for tomorrow." The child advised.
"Oh, and Asuna?" Harry called out as the students moved to leave or group together.
The orangette in question looked up with an annoyed expression. "What?" Next she knew, she pelted by the eight pieces of erasures she shot, right between her eyes. That got a few yelps of pain from her, as well as surprise looks from some of the students.
"Next time, practice your aim at your own time." Harry stated dryly, giving her a flat look. "And NOT on people, if you please."
That earned some laughter from her classmates, especially from Ayaka. Asuna growled irritably, getting more and more angry with the teenage teacher. He is going to pay one of these days!
"Negi-sensei, Harry-sensei," The anger and irritation vanished when she saw her crush talking to her new homeroom teachers. "How was class today?"
"Takamachi!" Negi greeted his friend happily, as he and Harry walked up to him. "Class went well, for the most part. Though-"
Takahata-sensei!" Asuna quickly cut in, rushing over to Negi's head and Harry's sides. She placed a hand over Negi's while throwing an army around Harry's neck. "I was with these two the whole time, so there was no problem! The class was a complete success, wasn't it sensei?"
Harry gave her a look that clearly said, 'Like bloody hell you did!'. However, Asuna squeezed her arm around his neck before he could say anything, slightly choking him and cutting off his voice.
"Is that so? Well, I'm glad you're quickly getting along with your new teachers." Takamachi said, smiling at Asuna. "I'll leave Negi-kun and Harry up to you then, Asuna-kun."
"O-OK." Asuna replied back, smiling in pure adoration as her former home-room teacher passed by her and the young teachers. "Ah, Takahata-sensei…"
"Ah…" Negi said in realization, as Harry rubbed the spot of his neck that Asuna previously held. "So she is in love with Takamachi…"
"That definitely explains why she's so angry with us." Harry sighed. "We took her precious teacher away from her…"
"Oh, shut up!" Asuna hissed, glaring at both teachers. "The two of you are nothing but pests! If you think I'll ever recognize either of you as teachers, you're dead wrong!"
"And don't even bother trying to come over to my room, you damn brat!" Her glare was then aimed directly at Negi, who yelped and hid behind Harry. "I refuse to sleep with someone like you! Go sleep in a sleeping bag outside or something."
With that, she stomped away from the two teachers. Konoka, who was nearby during all this, bowed to both of them in apology. "Don't mind her, please. I'll try to talk to her." With that, she went to catch up with her friend.
"That girl… is really mean." Negi couldn't help but say, moving away from Harry.
"Tell me about it." Harry huffed, looking more than a bit angry. "I know Konoka said that she can be nice, but right now, that's pretty hard to see." Letting a child fend for himself is not something decent people generally do.
The two mages/teachers then started walking together. "What should I do about tonight…?" Negi sighed morosely. "Asuna made it clear that doesn't want me in her room…"
"Well, Konoka could probably convince her to let you stay…" Harry stated, hands in his pockets. "But if she can't, or if you're not comfortable staying with Asuna, then we can talk to Takamachi about letting you stay with him. We'll need to talk to him about Asuna, anyway."
"Yes. You're right. But before we do that…" The redhead then looked down, poking his fingers together nervously. "D-Do you mind if we talked for a bit? There's a lot of questions I've been meeting to ask you."
The Boy-Who-Lived chuckle, having a feeling as to what those questions pertained. "Sure. Let's grab our stuff and find a good area to talk at."
(Outside Mahora)
Turns out, there were a lot of questions Negi wanted to ask. Those questions pertained to his magical abilities, his travels around England and the magical world, what he faced during those travels, etc.
Harry answered those questions to the best of his abilities, as they relaxed behind a fountain. The two were sitting on the stairs of the fountain, with Negi wearing his cloak over his suit while Harry made his cloak into a sash for the time being.
"So all the stories about you at age eleven through fifteen are all true?" Negi asked in wonder. "Fighting a clan of trolls? Fending off an army of dementors? Taking down a dragon in the Polymage Tournament?"
"Some of the stories are exaggerated." Harry chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "For one, I only fought a small family of trolls, not a whole clan. And I only evaded and outsmarted the dragon, not defeated it."
"That's still incredible!" Negi insisted excitingly. "And the dementors?"
"...Yeah, that story is true." The Boy-Who-Lived admitted, getting stars from the boy mage's eyes. "But it was merely through luck and desperation that I was able to pull it off, that's all! It's not that special, Negi."
"It's very much so!" The redhead stated firmly, leaning towards Harry in his excitement. "To be able to face hundreds of one of the most vile creatures is astonishing! Very few, if anyone, could be able to make such a claim!"
The black haired teen could only lean back, chuckling at the excitement the little mage is showing. While he had met his fair share of excited fans, he doesn't think he can ever get used to it.
At least it's a child this time, and not someone over twice his age that's acting like a fanboy.
"Settle down Negi, and keep your voice low." Harry told him, gently pushing the boy back. "We don't want anyone hearing our conversation."
Negi blushed, realizing that he's probably a bit too overexcited. "I-I'm sorry. It just, as I said before, you're one of the two idols in my life. I dreamed of becoming a great magister magi, a strong mage; and when I think of you, I think of somebody who's able to reach such a level at such a young age. Someone that I can aspire to be."
That earned a wry smile from Harry. He doesn't really think that he's as amazing as Negi says. Most of what he went through, he got out of with combination of improvised use of magic, a bit of help along the journey, and just sheer dumb luck.
He won't try to dissuade the kid though. Better to let him have his idol, at least for the time being.
Before any more questions could be asked, or anything else can be said between the mages, the two noticed someone up a stairwell. It was a student, one of theirs from what they can tell, who was carrying a ton of books. 'Been a while since I've seen someone hold that many books…' Harry mused idly.
"That's… number 27… Miyazaki Nodoka?" Negi guessed, looking through his class roll just to make sure. "That's a lot of books she's carrying. Won't that be dangerous, climbing down the stairs?"
Harry narrowed his eyes. "Yeah, it would…"
Just as he said that, Nodoka suddenly then slipped… and then started falling.
"I knew it!" Negi shouted.
"Run over and catch her, Negi!" Harry commanded as he held out a hand. "I'll levitate her!"
"On it!" Using his magic to amp up his speed, the young redhead dashed over there. Behind him, Harry flung a levitation spell just as the screaming girl was close to the ground. That gave Negi more than enough time to get over there and catch her, prompting the spell to end.
"Phew. We made it just in time." Negi sighed in relief, before looking at Nodoka in concern. "Are you okay, Miyazaki-san? Are you awake?"
"It looks like she passed out." Harry said from behind him. "Being that close to death must've been exhilarating for her."
"Yeah, your prob-" As Negi turned around to face his idol, he froze up as he immediately took notice of somebody behind them.
Harry tilted his head at the frozen look aimed towards him. "Is something wrong, Negi?"
Shakily, the boy held up a finger and pointed at something behind him. Now feeling concern, the former traveler turned around… to see Asuna standing a few feet away, stunned.
"...What did you see?"
"...All of it."
'Well… bugger.' Harry deadpanned in his mind. First day back in non-magical civilization and he already revealed himself as a mage.
"Y-You saw…" Negi stuttered, too stunned to say anything else at the moment.
They all got out of their frozen state, however, when they heard Nodoka groaning. "S-Sensei?"
At that instant, Asuna dashed past Harry and grabbed Negi, before running from the teen mage and Nodoka. "Negi!" Harry shouted, completely startled at the speed Asuna showed. "Shit!"
Before he could take off after them, however, he took notice of the bewildered student still on the ground. "Are you alright, Nodoka?" Harry asked, holding out a hand for her to grab.
"Y-Yes." The young girl seemingly shrinked at the sight of him, but grabbed the offered hand nonetheless. As he pulled her back up, she asked, "W-Was that N-Negi-sensei, that saved me?"
Harry nodded. "It was. Ran over here and catched you before you could fall." He answered. "Now, I have to save him from a very aggressive student, so excuse me." With that, he ran towards the direction of Asuna and Negi, hoping to catch up to them.
Fortunately, it didn't take too long to find them. After around a minute of searching, he managed to locate both Asuna and Negi. When he found them though, he was expecting Asuna to aggressively interrogate Negi.
Not the girl to be half-naked, with the boy on the ground. Oh, and Takahata-sensei was at the opposite side of him, looking as baffled as he's probably looking at the moment.
"Did we… miss something here?" Harry couldn't help but ask.
He was met with a tearful and embarrassed scream from the orange haired student.
(Later)
"So, after she stated that she'll tell somebody, you attempted to wipe Asuna's memory of what she witnessed…" Harry summarized, looking at a sheepish yet confused Negi. "But instead of her memories… her clothes disappeared?"
Negi nodded. A few feet away from them, Asuna was sobbing on the ground, embarrassed that her crush saw her almost completely naked. "Yes. That's everything."
"That… isn't supposed to happen."
"You think?!" Asuna shouted, directly a glare at the two mages. She then went back to sobbing on the ground. "Now Takahata-sensei has seen me without a skirt, or even panties! What will he think of me now?!"
"That's not what I meant." Harry retorted, paying no mind to her sobbing. "Even if the memory charm was messed up, it shouldn't mess with your clothes. It's mind magic; it should've done something to your mind." It's definitely strange that her clothes were the thing that vanished. Could a mage even mess up a spell that badly?
Then again, there was a mage student that made explosions with every spell he attempts.
"I rather that happen than my clothes disappearing!" Finally, the girl got up from the ground, aiming another glare at the boys. "So… why did two mages from England come all the way here? And as teachers no less?"
Very intimidated by the angry student, Negi stood and hid slightly behind his idol. "U-Um, that's because I'm here for training… to become a Magister Magi."
And just like that, Asuna's anger was replaced with confusion. "Huh?"
"Magister Magi are mages that assist the outside world with their powers, without revealing the world of magic." Harry explained. "A non-profit organization, one that's highly respected in the magical world."
Asuna narrowed her eyes at Harry. "And your training for that too?"
"Not specifically, no." Harry shook his head. "I'm merely helping Negi with that avenue. I have my own reasons for being here and assisting Negi."
"Hmmm…" The student hummed in thought. "And what would happen if the two of you get exposed as magic?"
Negi shivered nervously at that. "O-On top of losing my license, I'll be forced to go home! If things get really bad…"
"The punishment can range from being turned into an ermine… to Azkaban prison." Harry finished, the last part getting an even bigger shiver from Negi, his face white.
Asuna frowned confusingly. "Azka-what?"
"Azkaban. One of the few mage prisons out there in the world, and the worst out of all of them." Harry explained. "Only the worst of mages end up there. So, as you can probably imagine…"
The Boy-Who-Lived then held his hand up, pulling his sleeve a bit to reveal a black wristband on his wrist. "We can't really allow you to tell anyone."
"H-Huh? Hold a second…" Asuna stuttered, stepping back a bit.
"While I don't have much experience with mind magic, the memory charm is a fairly simple spell." Harry continued, taking a few steps towards Asuna. "And if similar results happen… well, there are other ways to wipe those memories."
The orangette went pale, feeling her spine crawling when a cold smile entered Harry's lip. "A few certain drugs… powerful hypnosis… a hard hit to the head… there are various ways to take someone's memories."
"W-Wait, hold on! Can't we just talk about this?"
"What's there to talk about? It's clear that you don't like us being here, and you told Negi before that you won't keep this a secret." The teen teacher replied back. "And even if you aren't, you might try to blackmail us. So tell me…" His hand and bracelet then began glowing, indicating that he's going to use magic. "Why should I let you remember all this?"
Asuna gulped fearfully at this. "L-Look, I won't tell anyone, okay?" She promised, holding up her hands in a pitiful defense. "It's clear that having it revealed to people won't be good for you guys. I won't get you in trouble just for my benefit. I promise." In fact, now that she's thinking calmly, she doubts that she would feel any good, getting a kid and someone her age in major trouble. Much as she hates kids, and as much as Harry irritates her… she's not that big of a jerk to put them in jail.
Harry narrowed his eyes, his hand still trained at the orangette. After a moment passed between the two, the traveler sighed. "Just so you know, the only reason I'm doing this is because I rather not resort to those methods." Finally, he lowered his hand, the glow fading away. "Tell anyone, and I will do so."
Asuna sighed in relief, nearly crumpling back on the ground. For a minute, she thought something really bad was going to happen to her there!
"U-Um, Asuna-san?" At the sound of her name, the girl looked up, to see Negi standing beside Harry with an apologetic look on his face. "I really am sorry for doing that to you. I-I didn't mean to… you know."
Asuna looked at Negi with an unreadable expression on her face. The look caused Negi to shuffle uncomfortably while Harry held a suspicious look.
After a moment of silence, the girl spoke. "If you're really sorry… then do you mind helping me with something?"
(Mahora Junior High Building)
Non-surprisingly, Asuna wanted Negi's help (Or rather, his magic) to repair her relationship with Takahata. Thanks to the incident with her disappearing clothes, the student feared that her relationship with her teacher was damaged. So she wants to find a way to repair it, or even improve it.
So here they are now, at the school once again, with Asuna and Negi discussing ideas, and Harry following right behind them. The orange haired student didn't talk to Harry much, probably due to the scare he gave her.
"For a mage, you're not very useful, huh?" Asuna grumbled at Negi.
That's when Harry decided to speak up. "He did say that he's still only in training, didn't he?" He pointed out. "Besides, most of your ideas are either immoral, illegal, or impossible."
"...Shut up." The orangette grumbled, having no comeback for his statement.
"I'm sorry…" Negi apologized once again. "Apart from a few spells such as mind-reading, I don't really-"
"That's it!" Both mages jumped a bit at the excited shout from Asuna. "I could use mind-reading to find out what Takahata-sensei feels about me!"
"Isn't that an invasion of his privacy?" Harry pointed out.
"Details!" That gained a sigh from the traveler. This isn't going to end well, he can already tell. He doubts Negi's mind reading is strong enough to fully look into Takamachi's head, not without the man being aware of it or asleep.
He won't bother pointing that out though. He rather not have Asuna hounding him to do so.
"Let's try it as soon as we can!" Asuna suggested as she opened the class door. "Just let me get my stuff-"
"Welcome, Negi and Harry-senseii!" The multiple cheers came from none other than most of the students in 3-A, with many of them blowing out confetti.
Both teachers were surprised, to say the least. "E-Eh?" Was the response of the youngest of the two.
"Oh, that's right! We're having a welcoming party for you two!" Asuna stated in realization. "I completely forgot about that! I went out to buy all this." The girl held up a bag full of drinks.
"Eh?!" Negi exclaimed even louder.
"What surprises me the most is that you're involved in this." Harry said, looking at her with a raised eyebrow. She made it clear that she isn't the biggest fan of either him or Negi.
In response, Asuna looked away with a pout. "Konoka forced me to come…" She grumbled.
Ah. That explains it.
Before anymore could be said between the two, some of the girls dragged Harry and Negi towards one of the tables. "Come on you two, over here!"
"Our guesses of honor sit in the middle!"
"Here sensei! Try some of our special meat buns!"
The welcome the two teachers were receiving caused a large smile to blossom on Negi's face. 'With such a welcome like this… I really was worrying too much…'
'Didn't think we would get a welcome like this.' A small smile then entered Harry's own lips. 'It's… kinda nice.'
"U-Um… Negi-sensei…" The two mages turned towards the source of the voice, to see Nodoka standing in front of them.
"Ah." Negi said in remembrance. "Number 27, Nodoka Miyazaki, right?"
"You doing okay, Nodoka?" Harry asked with some concern.
"Y-Yes, I'm doing fine now." Nodoka answered, giving a slight bow towards Harry before turning to Negi. "U-Um… about the incident earlier… Harry told me that you saved me, so, um…"
The shy girl then meekly held out a certificate to the boy. "Please, take this book certificate as a token of my gratitude!" She then ran off before Negi could say anything.
"Oh my gosh!"
"Honya is already going for the teacher?"
"I thought she was scared of men!"
As a few of the students went after Nodoka, Harry gave the younger teacher an amused look. "Look like someone gained a bit of hero-worship."
That got a blush from Negi. "P-Please don't tease me like that! Miyazaki-san is merely grateful for helping her."
"If you say so." Harry responded back, his smirk still on his face.
"Negi-sensei!" Ayaka's called out, getting the attention of the teachers. "I also have something for you…" The class president then held her arms towards… a bronze statue of Negi.
'...Okay, maybe there's something to Asuna's claim of her being a shouta-kun.' Harry thought blankly, while Negi stared at the statue of himself with bafflement. First an expensive stepping stool, now a bronze statue of the kid? Where did she even get the time to have this made?
"What the heck is that?!" Asuna exclaimed, getting right into Ayaka's face. "Are you stupid or something, iincho?!"
"I don't want to hear that from you, Asuna-san!"
Harry sighed, standing up from his seat. Before he could break up the fight, however, someone spoke up. "Harry-kun, Negi-kun. Good to see you both here." The Boy-Who-Lived turned to see Takamachi and Shizuna coming at the other side of the table.
"Takamachi. Shizuna-sensei." Negi said in slight surprise. "The two of you came too?"
"Yes. The students told us about this; said it was a welcoming party for the two of you." Shizuna explained. She then turned towards Ayaka and Asuna with exasperated amusement. "Those two never change."
"I'm guessing that means those two fighting is a common occurrence?" Harry inquired.
"That it is." Takamachi confirmed with a nod. "I suggest not worrying about it today, and just enjoy the party."
'Well, that's one thing to constantly worry about…' Harry thought in exasperation. He'll take Takamachi's advice on this.
Fortunately, the fighting between the two girls did stop, as Asuna quickly took notice of Takahata-sensei. Quickly, she went to Negi and jabbed on the back, prompting him to cough up the drink he was drinking. "This is our chance! You know what to do, right?" She whispered to him.
"M-Mind reading! Right!" Negi whispered back.
The quiet conversation caused Harry to roll his eyes. Knowing this won't end in Asuna's favor, he decided to leave the two alone and avoid the fallout for the time being. He walked away from his spot on the table and headed to a more secluded area, making a few toasts with a few of the students along the way.
Leaning on one of the walls, he observed Negi, Asuna, and the other students and teachers from afar. As he did, he couldn't help but snort when Negi placed his hand over Takamachi's head, as well as the dismayed look on Asuna's face. 'Guess his mind reading spell isn't strong enough to look through someone's mind without touching them…'
"Harry-sensei…" The teen teacher broke out of his thoughts, to see one of his students coming up in front of him.
"Misora Kasuga, correct?" Harry asked, tilting his head.
"Y-Yep! That's me." Misora confirmed with a nod, a blush on her cheeks. "I was wondering if we could, you know, um… talk after school tomorrow? In private?"
After thinking for a moment, Harry nodded. "Sure. I don't mind." He then gave her a mischievous smirk. "Just remember, I'm a teacher. I would rather not have a scandalous relationship with my students on the first few days."
That brought a big blush from the tomboy. "N-No, nothing like that!" She quickly denied. "I just want to talk to you about something, that's all!"
"Okay, then. Glad I don't have to worry about one of my pretty little students seducing me." Harry responded back with a wink, heating her face up further. "How about we meet up around the fountain here at the school? Do you know the one I'm talking about?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I do." Misora bobbed her head in confirmation. "S-See you then." She then hurried off and linked back with a few of the other students.
Harry couldn't but chuckle as he watched her go. Misora definitely reminds him of a certain other tomboy fangirl.
"Ah, Asuna-san! Wait!" The sudden shout caused Harry to turn back towards the table, to see Asuna running out and Negi following right after her.
'Yep. I knew this was going to happen.' Sighing, the Boy-Who-Lived decided to give a helping hand while Negi went after their orange haired student and went over to Takamachi, who witnessed the two running off.
"Is something wrong with Asuna-kun?" Takamachi inquired with slight concern.
"Kind of." Harry sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "She's worried about whether or not you view her differently thanks to the… little incident hours ago…"
"Oh… that…" The older teacher blushed a little at the reminder, before shaking off the embarrassing memories. "I assume that's why Negi asked me what I thought of her? And looked into my mind, if I'm not mistaken."
"You catch on quick." Harry replied with a small chuckle. "Yeah, Negi wanted to help Asuna feel better, so he decided to see if your thoughts about her really changed. So he probably told Asuna something she didn't like."
"I see…" Takamachi mused softly, seemingly unbothered by the fact that his mind was briefly invaded. "Well, tell Asuna-kun that I don't look at her any differently than I have before. I understand what happened back there was an accident of sorts, and nothing strange was happening."
Harry nodded. "I'll be sure too." Hopefully, Asuna will be relieved to hear that.
The sound of shouting then entered his ear, causing the mage teacher to turn towards the hallway curiously. What's going on out there?
(Night)
"That was terrible…" Asuna groaned, as she walked with Konoka, Harry, and Negi. She gave the redheaded boy a dirty look. "This is all your fault, you know!"
"You're the one who decided to practice confessing to a ten-year old, Asuna." Harry retorted, right behind the girl and beside Negi. "You know the old saying: 'You reap what you sow'."
That earned a backwards glare from the girl. Harry merely raised an eyebrow as if to say, "Am I wrong?"
Huffing, Asuna looked away from him, putting her attention back to Negi. "Anyways, Negi…" She began. "You may be smart and can use magic… but you're still just a kid. Can you really be a teacher despite that?"
That caused the boy to look down, his determination starting to fade. 'Is she right? My first class may have worked out today, but what of tomorrow? Or the next day? And not only that, but I already got exposed as a mage. Can I… can I really do it?'
Suddenly, he felt a hand over his head. The boy looked up to see Harry giving him a reassuring look. "Don't forget, you did well in class today, and saved Nodoka. Sure, we got exposed because of it, but I say that's worth the price of saving someone, don't you think?"
"You're doing a good job so far, Negi. Continue improving from there, and you'll go far. And don't forget…" The Boy-Who-Lived smiled down at him. "You won't be alone during your training. I'm gonna be right beside you through it all. So keep that chin up Negi, and don't let what Asuna said keep you down."
Negi continued staring up at him, taking in what his idol said. Then, a smile entered his own face as his spirit rose back up. "Yes! You're right! Thank you, Harry-san."
Unknown to the two boys, Asuna and Konoka had stopped walking, and were observing them. Konoka cooed at the little scene between the two teachers while Asuna looked on neutrally.
"Hey," The orangette called out, getting the two's attention. "Have you found a place to stay yet, Negi?"
"Um, er, no." Negi answered, shaking his head. "I didn't get the chance to ask Takamachi, so…"
Asuna sighed, scratching the back of her head. "Well, if you still want, it's okay to stay with me."
Negi's eyes widened at that. "R-Really?"
The girl nodded. "I may have said a bit too much back there…" She admitted sheepishly. "Just keep trying hard like Harry said, and you'll be a good teacher one day."
Negi visibly brightened at the words of encouragement. "Th-Thank you!"
With that, the four continued heading to the dorms, though Negi was lagging behind. As they did, Harry got beside Asuna and asked, "So what's with the change of heart?"
The girl huffed in response. "I can be a jerk, I know, but I'm not completely heartless." She defended herself. "I wouldn't actually let a kid fend for himself like that."
That earned a small smile from the black haired boy. So there really is a nicer side to the girl. He was afraid that he was never going to see it. "Glad to see that softer side people have been talking about." He teased.
That earned a blush from Asuna, looking away with a huff. "D-Don't get the wrong idea. He's still a brat, and I hate brats. And you're still an annoying little punk."
"And you're a short-tempered thug." Harry retorted, though there wasn't any heat to his words. "Still…" The smile entered back into his lip. "You're not so bad."
"Not really a compliment, you know…" Asuna grumbled. Still though, her cheeks did get a tad redder.
Chuckling a little, Harry turned his head back forward. First day at Mahora, and things have started out on a good note for the most part. Made sure Negi successfully taught class, helped rescue a young girl being injured or worse, was given a welcome party alongside Negi, and finally made peace with Asuna. Hopefully, things get better from there. But knowing his luck, he's not gonna hold his breath.
Regardless, he's gonna do his best to help Negi teach this rowdy bunch of girls, and give him whatever magical lessons he needs. He owes that much, and more... to Nagi Springfield, the man who saved him all those years ago.
And that's the end. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. Will try to keep from taking too long to update this, but I am working on other fics, as well as a blog I created a year ago (galacticmedia dot blogspot dot com. Come check it out if you like, whenever you get the chance). So yeah, don't expect any fast updates. Review, favorite, and follow, and I will see you guys later.
