#46: Death By Himura (Rurouni) Kenshin

Mild and warm, a light breeze in the air under a cloudless moonlit sky. Yukishiro Tomoe, love interest of Himura Kenshin stood in the waters of a lake within a Japanese forest, her pale shoulders barely above the waters as she bathed in the nude. She cups her hands and scoops up a handful of the clean crisp water, pouring it through her long indigo hair. She gazes up at the sky, admiring the stars above, its light reflecting like crystals glimmering through her dark pupils.

"So silent…and peaceful…this is the way the land of Japan should be when the conflict ends..." Tomoe says quietly to herself.

Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted when she hears the faint sound of footsteps from the nearby shore. She remained still; as to not alert whoever is near her of her immediate awareness.

"Mercenaries..." Tomoe says under her breath.

These weren't your typical mercenaries, however. They were none other than Team Rocket, traversing the area looking for their contract target. The trio were covered in black garments hiding their identity, and carrying katanas and shurikens of the sort. Nothing much to say about them, except that these three were suckered into working for the Shogun after he promises them asylum after somehow surviving again and fleeing from the onslaught of Kylo Ren.

The three stop and spot their target in the water.

"Is that her?" Meowth asks.

"Yeah, it has to be...didn't expect her to be out here alone, let alone in the nude...how lewd, what's the rating of this fic again?" Jessie makes note of the situation.

"No matter, we'll just take her out so the Shogun can make do on his promise to protect us from any more harm," James says.

Tomoe takes a deep breath and slowly ducks under the waters. She did not resurface, much to the three'a dismay, who was peeping in on the young woman from behind a strategically placed pile of brush.

"Damn, where did she go?" Jessie questions. "She can't stay underwater forever!" she adds.

"Is that so?" replied a male voice from directly behind the three.

Jessie, James, and Meowth all stop and look at each other before spinning around to see Tomoe standing right before them, dripping wet but covered. nNext to her also, however, holding a katana firmly in hand was a young man with red hair, an X-shaped scar on his cheek, and a cold, stoic look in his eyes.

It was Tomoe's protector and love: Himura Kenshin.

"Huh? Who are you?" James questions the young man.

"Instead of gawking at Miss Tomoe's body from the shadows, take a look at this instead," Himura responds, immediately thrusting the handle of his reverse-blade katana directly into Jame's face, breaking his nose on contact, forcing him to tumble backwards into the lake. Wisps of red blood surfaced from beneath the silent waves as a result. Jessie's eyes narrowed at his attacker, signaling to Himura that she wasn't going to suffer the same fate as her fallen partner. She hastily grabs a kunai from he pocket, and grips it in her hand.

"You crazy samurai!" Jessie proclaims, throwing the small silver projectile at him.

Himura strafes the side, the kunai barely scraping his cheek as it whizzes past him, ultimately ending up stuck into a tree on the opposite end of the lake. Unabated from the stack, Himura wipes the new crimson stain from his face and took this opportunity to advance toward the Jessie and attack. Jessie flips backwards into the air and hurls two more kunai at Himura in mid-jump, both which were deflected by Himura's katana. Reaching to grab another, she feels nothing.

"Oh no, out of ammo!" Jessie proclaims in shock.

Jessie lands on ground, only to end up impaled by Himura's katana. Blood sprays from her back as she began to collapse onto the ground. Meowth tries to escape impending doom by fleeing the area, but is intercepted by Himura's lightning fast movement and is carved open in an instant. Himura removes his blade and stares at the now defeated Team Rocket mercenaries.

Tomoe sighs and looks up toward the sky once more. The stars that twinkled above the forest had gone, now covered by grey clouds rolling in from the East.

A summer storm was coming.

"Why does this happen to us every night?" Tomoe says with an exhausted sigh.

Laying down his blade, Himura heads toward their small encampment to retrieve their belongings.

"The Shogun's hired men are getting sloppy. Come, let us move away from this area," Himura says to Tomoe.
