~Everything's Not What It Seems~
Alex and Justin are siblings sent to Hogwarts to learn about magic just like their father. There they meet new friends, fall in love, and find out that truly everything is not what it seems.

Alex looked around in confusion as the student sat in their places, chatting with their friends. Some of the professors that were seated in the front had made their way out of the great hall, and only a few remained, chatting amongst one another. The food had disappeared from the tables some time ago and even the headmaster was nowhere in sight. Alex was confused.
"Justin, why is everyone just sitting around?"
"Because we have to wait for the prefects. " Alex heard the answer come from behind her. She turned to see her cute brown-haired savior standing beside their table, the same smile on his lips as before when he caught her. "We all head to the common rooms together with our house on the first day. So the first years don't get lost."
"Oh, that makes sense… thanks." Alex smiled back at him.
The boy nodded, pointing to the now-empty seat beside her. "Can I join you?"
Alex nodded as he sat down. "By the way, my name is Cedric, Cedric Diggory."
"Nice to me you Cedric. I'm Alex and this is my brother Justin." She pointed to her brother who already has his hand extended towards Cedric.
"Nice to meet you both."
"I'm sure you're here to collect your thank you for saving me earlier. I don't usually hand out thank you's but you really saved me from further embarrassment back there. So... thank you." Alex felt her face flush red as the memory of her staring at the green-haired boy with the glasses came back. She didn't know why she did that.
"No problem, I couldn't have let a pretty girl like you fall like that, now could I?" He replied.
"Yeah…"
"First years, come on we must be going now!" Alex and Justin both looked up to see a red-haired older boy herding kids towards him. "Come, come, we must be getting to Gryffindor tower. Russos, you too! The rest of you, follow suit!"
"I hope to see you around Alex." Cedric looked at Alex with a crooked smile before standing up and heading back his table. Alex watched his friends tease him as he sat back down with them.
"Ready to go?" Justing got up, extending a hand to his sister. Alex nodded, taking his hand and following the first years down the walkway that led out of the great hall.
As soon as they had exited the great hall, the two Russo's were in awe again as they took in their surrounding in amazement. It was a long walk, but surprisingly Alex didn't notice nor complained, she was too mesmerized by all the moving moving picture frames with the funny-looking wizards. When they finally stopped, Alex looked up to see a giant painting with a glamorous fat lady standing it it. The lady looked at the Gryffindors in boredom.
"Password?"
"Wiggleyworm."
The painting swung open to reveal a door. The red-haired guy turned around and faced all the students, shushing the Gryffindors in the back of the crowd who were whispering to each other.
"My name is Percy Weasley and I am a prefect. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me." Percy turned and walked into the room, waving for them to follow. When they were all inside, Alex saw the older students scatter away up the stairs or onto the couches. Percy cleared his throat, looking on at the first years again. "The stairs over there are to the girl's rooms, the doors over there are to the boy's rooms. You have already been assigned a room and a bed with your fellow first years so you may proceed upstairs to find your luggage waiting for you. Everyone except for Justin and Alex Russo."
As the other first years scattered apart, Alex and Justin made their way over to Percy. "What about us?"
"That's why I stopped you two. You two aren't first years so I don't think you want to be roomed with them. Your things have been placed in rooms with students in your year. Alex, you'll be in a girl's room with your fellow third years and Justin you'll be in a boy's room with your fellow fourth years." Percy handed them each a paper with their room assignments before clapping his hands together and looking at them expectantly. "Any other questions? No? Then you may proceed to your rooms." With that, Percy walked past them and out of the common room.
"I don't like that guy." Alex frowned, looking towards Justin.
Justin looked at Alex in surprise. "Why? I find him very charming, reminds me of someone…"
Alex rolled her eyes and folded her arms over her chest. "You would find him charming, wouldn't you?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Justin looked at his sister with a tone of irritation.
Alex sighed and looked towards the staircase. "You know exactly what it's supposed to mean. I'm heading to my room, I'm tired from the trip." She gave her still-annoyed brother a wave before heading towards the stairs.
She walked up a few sets of stairs before she finally reaches the room that she was assigned to. Alex was relieved to find her luggage already sitting in front of her bed. She didn't waste any time, pulling out her wand to change her clothes before snuggling into the bed and falling asleep.
~~~~~
The next morning, Alex was standing in front of the mirror, adjusting her robe as the annoying bushy-haired girl who had woken her up this morning continued to lecture her from the bed next to hers. What did she say her name was again. Harriet?
"You're very lucky I forgot my favorite quill. Otherwise your brother wouldn't have found me and asked me to wake you up. Do you know you missed breakfast and only had thirty minutes to get dressed and head to class when Justin found me!"
"That's thirty minutes of sleep I won't get back." Alex muttered under her breath.
"How did you even get dressed so quickly?" The girl asked her.
"It's called American magic." Alex rolled her eyes as she grabbed her bag off the floor and made her way out of their room. Hermione followed her, listing out facts she had included in an essay she wrote that summer on American magic.
As they were nearing the end of the stairs, Alex noticed the girl go quiet. She turned to check if she was still following. She found the watching her with an apologetic expression.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bore you... I do that sometimes."
Alex smiled, shaking her head. "No worries. Let's start over and forget this morning happened. Hi, my name is Alex Russo. And you are?" Alex extended her hand towards the girl.
"Hermione Granger." She smiled, taking Alex's hands
"Pleasure to meet you Hermione."
Alex turned around to continue down the stairs, Hermione quickly made her way next to Alex. "I took the liberty of looking through your class schedule and it looks like we have all the same classes, as expected. Not strange for students of the same house and year."
"Thanks." Alex nodded as they arrived in the common room.
"Thank you so much Hermione for waking up my sister!" Alex rolled her eyes as her brother made his way over to them. "Alex, you could have been late for your first day!"
"Good morning to you too…" She folded her arms over her chest and looked around the room. Hmmm, it is pretty empty. Most of the student must already be on their way to class. Maybe it was a good thing that Hermione woke her up. She would never heard the end of it if she didn't get to class on time today.
"Alex!" Alex returned her attention to Justin, giving him an expectant look. "Stupid me, you weren't going to listen to me in the first place so why bother?" Justin frowned as he shoved a paper bag into her hands. "There's a chocolate muffin in there, eat if before class but not in class. I asked Hermione to escort you to your class today so you're not late. Also, no pranks Alex. I mean it!" Justin crossed his arms over his chest, looking at Alex expectantly.
"Okay fine! No pranks today. Aren't you going to be late for class or something?"
Justin opened his mouth to say something but stopped, looking at his watch in panic. "Stay out of trouble!" He looked at Alex. "And thank you again Hermione!" Alex rolled her eyes again as her brother sprinted out of the common room.
"What a dork..."
"We should also get going." Hermione turned to Alex. "Professor Snape enjoys docking house points so I'd prefer to not be late for class."
"Yeah, yeah. Lead the way." Alex waved Hermione off as she opened the paper bag and started to eat the muffin. She walked out of the common room with Hermione, munching on her muffin as they made their way to their first class. She was thankfully that Hermione didn't ask her any questions as they made walked.
When they finally stopped, Alex looked around suspiciously. "Why are we in the dungeon?"
"This is where we have our first class with Professor Snape." Hermione shrugged as she pulled the door open, motioning her inside.
Alex threw the last bite of her muffin in her mouth before heading inside the room. She nodded thoughtfully as she looked around, seeing tables occupied with chatting students. She noticed shelves full of bottled liquids towards the back of the room. And some jars with questionable things in them as well.
"In case you were wondering, this is year 3 Potions.
Alex nodded. Hermione linked arms with her before pulling her towards a half-empty empty table. Alex took a seat; unwillingly, and placed her bag on the floor by her feet. When she looked up, she was surprised to meet the same green eyes that she saw in the great hall the previous night, staring back at her again. The two quickly broke eye contact as she turned to look at the red-headed boy next to him, his complexion strangely resembling Fred, George, and Percy.
"This is Alex, Alex Russo. She's a new third year that I share a room with." Hermione looked at Alex with a smile while the two boys muttered a hello. "Alex, this is Harry Potter and Ron Weasley." So he is related to Fred and George.
"Weasley, huh? I met your brothers Fred and George and your mother at the train station yesterday. I also met your other brother Percy last night." Alex stared at Ron who was now frowning.
"Seems like my brothers are everywhere. I'm always either the little brother or Harry's mate." Ron frowned then looked at Harry apologetically.
"So you two are… together? Like… together, together?" The two boys looked at Alex strangely, then looked to Hermione.
"Like… you guys are dating?" Alex asked again. Harry and Ron's eyes went wide as they both shook their heads. Alex looked to Hermione to see her trying to hold back a laugh. Did she say something wrong?
"What gave you that bloody idea? He's my mate, that's it!" Ron screamed with a look of horror.
"You said it again! Mate! Doesn't that mean you're together?" Alex looked at them with confusion. Harry was now smiling, he shook his head at Alex.
"You're from America right? Here we call our friends, mates." Harry explained.
Alex quickly felt her face go hot. She just looked like a complete idiot in front of these three. This was the second time she had embarrassed herself in front of Harry.
"Hey, don't worry about it, it happens!" Alex looked at Harry again to see him giving her a friendly smile.
She smiled back. "Oh, okay thanks. I-" Before she could continue, the door to the dungeon flew open and the room went quite. Alex turned to see a pale, black-haired man in a black cloak walking into the room. He marched straight to the front of the class as the whole class watched intently.
"As you all know, I am professor Snape and you're all here for another year of potions, another year to see you kids fail miserably in what should be a very basic class. We won't be wasting time this year going over class rules, I expect as third years you should know all of them. We'll start with a quiz to review what you should already know from the last two years, this will include the rules." He looked towards Alex then with a flick of his wand, papers appeared in front of everyone in the class. "Begin!"
Alex looked towards the paper, scanning the first couple of questions. This was all gibberish to her. She looked up to see Professor Snape's attention averted. He began pouring liquids into the cauldron at the front of the class. Her eyes returned to the paper, as she tried to find at least one question that made sense to her. What now? Alexlooked up again anxiously to see Harry's eyes on her from across their table. He smiled at her encouragingly before motioning towards his paper. He slid the power a bit closer to Alex and mouthed 'Look at my paper.'
Alex glanced around the room before nodding quickly at Harry with a smile. Maybe this won't be so bad.
