Alex walked beside Harry to their second class, following behind Ron and Hermione. The two had been bickering about a question on the quiz in Snape's class since the moment they had walked out of Potions. Alex looked towards Harry to see him boredom playing with his wand. He noticed Alex almost immediately and looked at her with a smile.

"Wasn't Ron's answer incorrect?" Hermione turned around to look at Alex and Harry. She waited impatiently while the two continue to stare at each other. "Harry? Alex? Are you two listening?"

Alex quickly turned away from Harry, looking to Hermione apologetically. "I actually guessed on that one." What the heck was she just doing?

"Me too, but I'm sure Mione is right." Harry shrugged and continued to walk past them. Alex followed. She didn't want to discuss the quiz anymore, especially since she copied all the answers off Harry.

When she was back in step with Harry again, he gave her an apologetic glance. She looked back at the pair behind them and shook her head as the two began to bicker again. "Are they always like this?" She whispered.

"Yeah, this is normal... perhaps."

"Umm, thanks for the help with that exam. If I failed on my very first day, Justin would have had a fit."

Harry laughed. "No problem, you seemed like you were in troubled. I guess I just wanted to be the one to save you." Alex giggled as she noticed Harry's face had gone slightly red in embarrassment. Did he really just say he wanted to save me? "So, Justin is your brother?"

"Yeah, he's my older brother. He and I fight all the time, but at the end of the day… he's all I have-" Alex stopped suddenly, realizing what she had just said. She quickly turned away to compose herself before she gave herself away with the panicked expression.

"Wait, all you have? But you have another brother too right? What was his name… Max?" Alex looked at Harry again and nodded.

"Uhhh yeah, I meant… well he's all I have here that I can turn to, Max is little… I can't really go to him when I need someone." Alex explained, turning her attention away from Harry. She was relieved to see them approaching their next class.

Harry only nodded in response. When they got to the door, he held the door open for Alex. As she passed him she heard him whisper, "If you ever need someone else to talk to, I'm here too."

~~~~~
For some reason, Harry could not stop making of fool of himself in front of Alex. First by staring at her in the great hall, then when she thought he was dating Ron, and also when he was staring at her on the way to class. The worst was when he told her 'Hey, if you ever need someone else to talk to, I'm here too.' She must have thought he was the oddest person she had ever met! Harry was relieved that Professor Trelawney was already waiting to start the class when they had arrived. He didn't want another opportunity to embarrass himself.
"Welcome children, in this class you will explore the art of divinations! Together we will discover our abilities in this art and cast ourselves into the future!" She holds up her hands crazily in front of them. Harry hears a few snickers around them. Harry wasn't sure if this woman was brilliant or a complete lunatic! "This term we will practice the art of reading tea leaves so please take the cup of the person opposite of you." Harry grabbed Ron's cup from in front of him, looking down at the pattern made by the tea leaves. He opened the textbook in front of him and began to skim through the pages to locate a matching pattern.
"This is a load of rubbish!" Hermione whispered to a giggling Alex.
Professor Trelawney stepped in front of Ron, causing him to jump back slightly in his chair. "Your aura is passing dear, are you in the beyond?"
Ron looked over at me with confusion then back at her. "Sure…"
"The cup, tell me what you see!" Professor Trelawney continued to stare at Ron, her eyes wide.
"Oh, right… well… I got sort of a wonky cross which means suffering and this could be the sun, which is happiness. So Harry is going to suffer and he'll be happy about it?" He looked from the professor to me with doubt.
"Give me the cup!" She stretched her hands out, taking the cup from Ron, only briefly looking into the cup. She almost dropped the cup immediately as she shrieked and jumped back. Ron quickly caught the cup, returning it to the table. "My dear, you have the grim."
"The grim, what's the grim?" Someone asked as Harry picked up the cup and looks at the pattern formed by the tea leaves. Harry looked over his shoulder to see Alex and Hermione looking at their own cups. Alex frowned as she stared down at her cup while Hermione looked irritated.
"The grim, it's one of the darkest omens on earth; it's the omen of death." Another student read from the book. Harry looked at Professor Trelawney to see her moving farther away from him. He looked at the patterns again, comparing them to the one shows in the book. What could this mean?
The rest of class passed in a blur. All Harry could do was glance into his cup, hoping that the next time he looked at it the pattern would change. Hermione would poke him with her wand whenever she would catch him doing this, muttering that this class was just a bunch of rubbish. When they were finally dismissed, Harry was the first to stand up and head to the exit. He stopped when he and Ron noticed the girls hadn't followed after them.
"Alex, Alex, are you coming?" Hermione asked, standing beside her.
Harry looked at Alex. She was still seated in her chair, staring off into space with a disturbed expression on her face. He walked over to her, placing a hand on her shoulder to shake her out of her trance. "Alex, are you okay?"
Alex immediately snapped out of her trance to look over her shoulder at Harry. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just got lost in the tea. Let's go!" Alex quickly pushed her cup away and grabbed her things as she stood up. She followed Hermione to the door without another glance.
Harry wondered what could have disturbed Alex so much. He glanced down into her cup, pausing as his eyes fell on the familiar patter. The grim.
~~~~~

"You don't think the grim has anything to do with Sirius Black, do you?" Ron whispered to Harry, moving closer to him to make sure no one else could hear.

Harry opened his mouth to respond but quickly shut up when he noticed Hermione and Alex had stopped and were turning around. "That class was a load of rubbish, don't you think? Now a good class I would say would be Ancient Ruins."

"Ancient Ruins, bloody hell Mione, exactly how many classes you taking this term?" Ron looked at Hermione in surprise.

"A fair few…" Hermione turned back around. Alex followed quietly beside her.

"Hang on, that's not possible! Ancient Ruins is during Transfigurations! You have to be at two classes at once." Ron looked suspiciously at Hermione.

"Don't be silly Ronald, how can someone be in two classes at once?" Hermione replied, not even bothering to look back at them.

Hermione continued her complaints about Transfigurations the rest of the way. Harry mostly ignored her as he watched Alex walk quietly with ahead of him. She must have been thinking about the omen in her cup? Could he ask her? Would she be upset if he did? He continued to watch her until they reached the other Gryffindors gathered outside the forest. When Alex and Hermione stopped to turn around, he diverted his eyes quickly, turning his attention to an approaching Hagrid.

"Come on class, I have a real treat for yer today, follow me into the forest." Hagrid stopped before them. He waved them all to follow before turning around and walking into the forest. The class followed after him as he pointed to a clearing in a forest. "Form groups over there then open yer books to page forty-nine." They all began to gather into groups as Hagrid disappeared into the forest by himself.

"I think they're funny." Hermione said seriously as she watched Neville get attacked by his textbook. Alex gave Hermione a doubtful look before placing textbook in top of the rock beat them.

"Oh yes, terribly funny, really witty! Gosh this place has gone to the dogs, wait till my father hears that Dumbledore has this oaf teaching classes." Harry turned towards Malfoy. He stood triumphantly in front of Crabbe and Goyle, who were snickering beside one another.

The nerve of that self-entitled idiot. Without thinking, Harry walked over to Malfoy angrily. "Shut-up, Malfoy!"

Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle smirked, mocking Harry as he stopped before them. The rest of the Slytherins joining them. Malfoy handed his bag to Crabbe before walking over to Harry with a smirk. His smirk faded and he stepped back, fear filling his face. "Dementor, Dementor!" He screamed and pointed past Harry. Harry quickly looked back, his heart beating faster. As he turned he could hear the laughs of Malfoy and other the Slytherins. When he turned back to them, Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle has their hoods pulled over their head, making the sound of ghosts towards Harry. I've had it!

"Stop being jerks!" Alex yelled at Malfoy and his friends. She walked up beside Harry, glaring at the Slytherins. Malfoy looked at her in amusement, examining Alex from head to toe before stepping towards her.

"Now who might you be?" Alex rolled her eyes and took a step closer to him.

"Alex Russo, the girl you don't want to mess with." The Slytherins continued to snicker around them. Malfoy smiled wider and folded his arms behind his head.

"Hmmm, maybe you're just the girl I want to mess with?" He took another step closer. Alex didn't move, just continued stare at him angrily. Harry looked between them, their faces only a few inches away from each other. Harry couldn't watch anymore. He made his way over to Alex, pulling her protectively behind him.

"Leave her alone Malfoy!" Malfoy frowned as he looked behind Harry, returning his focus back on Alex. He shook his head in disappointment and stepped away from Harry.

"Alex, if you ever want to have some real fun, find me!" He winked at Alex before turning back towards his friends and gave Crabbe and Goyle each a high-five. Harry balled his hands into fists, taking a deep breath to hold himself back from socking Malfoy in the face right there and then.

"Dut-tara-dat!" Everyone turned their attention to Hagrid as he ret tend to the clearing. Harry turned to see Hagrid pointing proudly towards a giant, gray-feathered bird. "Say hello to Buckbeak!"

"Hargrid, exactly what is that?" Ron asked in horror.

"It's a hypogriff. They are very easily offended creatures; you do not want to insult them. It may just be the last thing you ever do. Now, who would like to the first to come and say hello?"

Harry quickly took a step back as he glanced around him. No one seemed to be jumping at opportunity. Hagrid expression fell when he realize that no one had volunteered.

"I'll do it!" Alex stepped forward, holding her hand up excitedly. "Looks like fun."

"What are you doing?" Harry asked Alex in a low voice.

She only shrugged in response. "Didn't you hear? I'm saying hello!" Alex took a few steps closer to Hagrid and Buckbeak. Stopping when Hagrid held up his hand to her. She nodded along as Hagrid instructed her on what to do to gain the hippogriff's trust. When he was done, he motioned Alex towards the giant bird.

Alex bowed in front of Buckbeak, waiting as the hippogriff curiously watched her. Harry watched her, now positive that Alex was completely nuts. She could be killed by that thing! As Alex continued to bow, Buckbeak began to screech at her.

"Alex, slowly take a step back." Hagrid warned. "Alex, what are yer doing, go back!" Hagrid yelled as Alex took a step closer to Buckbeak. Harry looked at Buckbeak, seeing the irritated expression on his face as he looked way Alex!

Without another thought, Harry walked slowly towards Alex. "Harry! Have yer gone mad, step away before yer kill the both of yer!" Harry ignored Hagrid, making his way beside Alex and bowing. Alex glanced beside her as she bowed, looking at Harry in irritation. Harry looked back at Buckbeak and was relieved when the hippogriff bowed before them.

"Good job you two… I think!" Hagrid exclaimed as he through a fish to Buckbeak.

Alex rolled her eyes at Harry before walking nonchalantly towards Buckbeak. This girl is a complete loon! She almost got herself killed, and now she's going to walk over to a hypogriff like it's nothing! He followed after her nervously, hoping to pull her away. As he reached for Alex's arm, Alex moved her arm and began to pet Buckbeak's beak. Bloody hell! Harry got closer to her and Buckbeak, as he approached he noticed that Buckbeak had warmed up to Alex and was nuzzling his beak against her hand.

"Well done Alex, looks like Buckbeak likes you! Would you two like to ride her now?" Harry turned to Hagrid to protest, only too be scooped up and placed on Buckbeak's back. He placed Alex in front of me, who was still petting Buckbeak happily.

"Hey, wait, no-" Harry started but was cut off as Buckbeak shot up into the sky. He quickly wrapped his arms around Alex's waist and closed his eyes.

"Harry, look!" Harry finally opened his eyes to see the scene before him. They were floating over the school, a perfect view of the entirety of Hogwarts. It was breathtaking. Harry looked at Alex, who was hugging Buckbeak happily. "Beautiful."

Alex looked at Harry with a smile. "Yes, yes it is."
