Alex was relieved when it was finally lunch time and she was able to eat a proper meal. They had been dismissed from Hagrid's class early after that idiot Malfoy decided to run up to Buckbeak without warning. When they arrived at the great hall, Harry, Hermione, and Ron had invited Alex to join them, but she declined their offer. She hadn't seen her brother since morning and hoped to spend lunch with him for a change.

Alex was seated at the end of the Gryffindor table by herself, enjoying a plate of French fries. She had her textbook open and was reading the chapter on hypogriffs. Alex heard a gasp and looked up to see her brothers and Cedric staring at her. Max and Justin looked liked their eyes were about to pop of their sockets.

"What?" She asked, swallowing the French fry in her mouth

"Alex… you're reading a book!" Max pretended to faint on Justin's shoulder. Justin pretended to hold Max up as he stifled a laugh.

"Shut-up, I was just looking up info on the hypogriff." Alex rolled her eyes at them and turned her attention back to the book.

"So it's true?" Cedric asked.

Alex signed in defeat, closing her books and turning to the boys as they joined her at the table. Cedric looked impressed.

"Is what true?"

"The rumor about how you fearlessly walked up to a hypogriff, petted it, then rid it around campus?" Cedric watched her curiously. This only happened half an hour ago, how did it get to Cedric so quickly?

Alex shrugged. "Yeah, it was no big deal. Harry and I did it."

"Harry Potter?" Alex looked at Justin. He was staring at her in disbelief.

"Yeah, that's the one. He's been in all my classes this morning. Why?

Justin shook his head. "Nothing. You didn't get hurt or anything, did you?"

"No Justin, I'm fine." Alex rolled her eyes, thinking of a way to change the subject. Her eyes fell on Max and she smiled. "Max, how was your first day?"

"It was awesome! That hat really sorted me to the right house! Hufflepuff's are my kinda of people!" Max smiled and looked over to the Hufflepuff table. A girl about his age with brown hair and blue eyes waved him over. "Later Alex, see yah Justin!" Max waved to his older siblings before running over to the Hufflepuff table. He took a seat beside the girl who'd waved him over and high fived a few of the first years at his table.

"I'll catch you guys later too. I have some Hufflepuff Quidditch matters to tend to." Cedric nodded towards them and heading towards the entrance to the great hall.

Alex turned her attention back to her brother and smiled. "Max looks happy." Alex's smile dropped as soon as she noticed Justin's shift in mood. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Come on Alex. Don't you remember what dad said? Dad said, don't bring too much attention to yourself!" Justin pointed at her.

"How did I bring attention to myself? I got to class on time, I didn't pull any pranks. I'm sitting here studying!" Alex frowned, folding her arms over her chest.

"Oh well, let's see… first there's the hypogriff then there's Harry Potter!" Alex stared at her brother, confusion crossing her face.

"What's wrong with Harry Potter?"

Justin shook his head, looking around to make sure no one was listening. He leaned closer to Alex, dropping his voice. "Alex, it's Harry Potter. Does the surname not ring a bell? 'The one who lived!' He is practically a celebrity. The last thing we need is for you to be around him so the attention goes towards you! Also-" Justin stopped, considering his next words.

"Also… what?"

"Also… Harry Potter, the chosen one, is James Potter's son. James Potter, as in 'Prongs.'" Alex looked at her brother in shock. Why was this the first time her brother was telling her this?

"So Harry is-" Before Alex could continue, Justin interrupted her.

"Yes he is. That doesn't matter much but it might draw attention to you. People might want to know, who is the girl hanging around Harry Potter. You can't be friends with him Alex." Alex looked over sadly to the new friends she made that morning. Harry was seated on the other side of the Gryffindor table, talking animatedly with Hermione and Ron. "Alex, do you understand?"

Alex tore her eyes away from them to look at her brother "Yes, I understand, I can't be friends with Harry."

"I'm sorry Alex, I know you hate being told what to do. This is just really important. It's for your safety, and my safety, and even Max's safety. Alex, promise me you'll try to stay away from Harry." It made her sad to think, but Alex nodded in response to her brother.

Alex returned her focus to her plate of food as Justin began to pile food on his own plate. Suddenly, the doors to the great hall flew open and Alex looked up to see another third year, Seamus, running towards the Gryffindor table, newspaper in hand. Alex saw him stop beside Harry, Ron and Hermione, dropping the paper on the table in front of them. A crowd began to gather around Harry. Alex found herself standing up ever so slightly to see if she could figure out what was going on.

"What do you think that's about?" Alex asked Justin.

Justin shook his head, opening a book that was sitting beside his plate. "Whatever it is, it doesn't concern us Alex. Come on, let's eat." Justin dug into his food as Alex slunk back down to her seat. She watched the crowd a while longer before returning her focus to her own plate. Justin's was right, it did not concern her.

~~~~~
Alex was standing beside a crowd of third years in her defense against the dark arts class after having lunch with Justin. Neville was beside her, explaining to her the many reasons why his grandmother didn't allow him to have a pet. Alex looked around the class, praying that Neville's tall figure would hide her from Harry, Ron and Hermione. Luckily, as students entered the classroom, they became distracted by the dresser sitting in the middle of the room. Alex hoped it would be the same case for Harry, Ron and Hermione when they entered, and that they would not notice Alex hiding away.
"Intriguing isn't it? Anyone want to make a guess as to what it is?" Alex turned around to see a middle-aged man with fair skin and brown hair enter the room. He had a scruffy beard and a long, funny looking mustache. He stopped in front of the student's leaning himself against the dresser as he awaited for an answer. This must be Professor Lupin.
"That's a boggart." Someone said from the crowd.
Professor Lupin nodded in their direction. "Correct. And does anyone here know what a boggart looks like?"
"No one knows." Hermione responded, as she stood in the middle of the crowd of students. Her hair was tied up and she looked slightly out-of-breath. "They're shape-shifters. They take shape of whatever a person fears the most." Hermione continued while Ron looked at her in disbelief.
"There is a charm though, to protect yourself from the boggart, we will practice that today, without your wands of course. Repeat after me, 'Ridiculous!'" The class repeated after him and he nodded. "This is only the easy part. In order to complete the spell you must laugh, think of something truly amusing to you which would cause you to laugh. Let's try this, Neville please step forward." Everyone looked to Neville as he hesitantly stepped forward. He stopped in front of Professor Lupin, glancing at the dresser occasionally in fear. "So Neville, tell me what scares you the most."
Neville stared nervously at Professor Lupin a while before finally answering. "Professor Snape."
The class burst into laughter, Lupin joined in, nodding. "Aren't we all? You live with your grandmother don't you Neville?"
"Yes, but I don't want it to turn to her either!" Neville said quickly, earning him more laughter from the class.
Professor Lupin smiled, leaning over to Neville's ear to whispers something to him. When he was done, he stepped away from Neville and looked at him expectantly. "You got it?" Neville nodded as Professor Lupin turned his attention towards the dresser. He pulled out his wand and held it towards the dresser, the door slowly opening. When it finally opened, Professor Snape stepped out, glaring at Neville. He began to run towards Neville who looked on in complete horror.
"Ridiculous!" Neville quickly yelled. Suddenly the clothes on Snape began to change and his black robes were replaced with clothes that looked like they belonged to an older lady. Alex giggled, joining into the laughter of the rest of the class. Neville looked around at the class in relief.
"Good job Neville, everyone form a line so you can all get a chance!" Professor Lupin instructed as he moved towards a record player and put on music.
Alex got in line with everyone else, watching in excitement as each student took their turn at the boggart. The class giggled and laughed as each student stood in front of the dresser and turned their fear into something ridiculous. Alex excitement grew as she got closer to the front of the line. She watched as Harry stepped up to the boggart next.
What could Harry Potter be scared of? Alex looked around her to see the other student looking on in as much anticipation. The boggart was currently a clown, swaying forward and back. As Harry stared at the swaying clown, it began to transform into something darker. A hooded ghost appeared as it made its way towards Harry. Harry stood frozen, staring at the figure, no longer smiling along with the class. As quickly as it turned into the hooded black ghost, Professor Lupin jumped forward and the boggart transformed into the moon.
"Ridiculous!"
The moon popped and flew back into the dresser as Professor Lupin quickly guided Harry away from the dresser. "We've only a little bit of time before class ends. Let's do a few more then you can collect your books and go." Lupin quickly said, nodding towards Seamus.
As everyone's attention moved back to the boggart, Alex continued to watch Harry, who was now slowly moving to the other side of the classroom looking distraught. Hermione and Ron joined him as the three whispered amongst each other away from the rest of the class. What was that thing and why is Harry afraid of it?
"Next. Next?" Alex looked forward to see the line in front of her had disappeared and only Professor Lupin and the boggart remained. Alex stepped forward as she stared at the rubber snake on the ground. She watched as the snake turned into a dark figure and grew in size. What was it? Soon there wasn't one figure before her, but to large figure. Before Alex was a hooded figure standing over another person's body. Alex gulped, taking a step forward to look at the body as a shriek and multiple murmurs broke out behind her. Alex gasped as her eyes fell on an unconscious Justin on the floor. Her throat dried up and suddenly Alex found herself unable to breath. Justin was dead. The figure began to turn towards her, Alex felt her head go light. Before she could see the face of the hooded figure, everything went black.
~~~~~

Why did her head hurt so much?

Alex groaned, the pain in her head increasing. She quickly opened her eyes, letting them adjust to the light as she heard alarmed voices around her.

"She's coming around, Madam Pomfrey, she's coming around!" As Alex's vision came to she found her brothers standing over her, expressions of relief on both their faces. Alex looked behind them, her eyes meeting those of a very concerned Professor Lupin.

"Justin, what happened?" Alex looked to her brother.

"You hit your head when you fainted, your mind was very creative when it came to the boggart, you were able to see two fears rather than one… quite rare I must say." Professor Lupin replied, taking a step closer as he looked at Alex curiously.

"Move aside you three, I need to check on the child." A woman in a nurse's outfit came over to Alex and examined her head, gently touching it. "Hmmm, you look fine to me but we'll keep you till tomorrow morning, just in case." She turned to look at Max and Justin. "I said you two can stay until your sister wakes up. She is awake now so you both best be leaving!" Max and Justin tried to protest as the nurse herded them out of the room. Alex waved after her brothers, laughing at the irritated expression on Justin's face.

When they're gone, Alex returned her focus to Professor Lupin, who had moved closer to Alex, taking the seat that was previously occupied by her brother. "I finally meet Alex B-Russo." He smiled, quickly composing himself. "Sorry, force of habit."

Alex narrowed her eyes towards him. "What were you about to say?"

Professor Lupin studied Alex a while before responding. "I don't know what you mean Alex."

Alex shook her head. Maybe she did hear him wrong. Or maybe he knew another Alex with a similar last name. "Nothing, I think I just heard you wrong."

Professor Lupin nodded and stood up. "Well Alex, it was nice seeing you again but I must be off. I'm relieved to see that you are well. I'll be seeing you in class tomorrow." With that, he turned around and walked out of the room. Alex stared after him curiously, his words going through her mind over and over again. What did he mean by, 'it was nice seeing you again'?
