~Everything's Not What It Seems~

Alex and Justin are siblings sent to Hogwarts to learn about magic just like their father. There they meet new friends, fall in love, and find out that truly everything is not what it seems.

As Alex pulled away from her father's embrace. She finally had a look around their surrounding. Justin and Harry had helped Ron sit down on a boulder. Her dad made his way over the lake to look at the view. Alex decided to join Ron on the boulder to check out the damage on his leg.

"That looks pretty bad..."

"You don't say!" Ron looked at Alex incredulously. She shrugged in response. She looked away from his leg to Harry. He was watching Sirius.

"Go." Ron and Hermione both said to him together.

"No, I'll stay here." Harry shook his head, his eyes still on Sirius.

"Go, we'll stay with him." Harry looked at Hermione and Ron, who both nodded before Harry got up and walks towards him. Alex watched them in confusion. Why was it so important for Harry to talk to her dad? Did he want to apologize? She knew that their dads were both friends, but it didn't explain why even Hermione and Ron were encouraging him to speak to him. Alex frowned as she watched Harry and her father talk like they were old friends. Maybe she was a little too curious for her own good.

"Harry!" Hermione called out. Alex looked at Hermione to see her and Justin staring at the sky with expressions of concern. She looked up to see the moon. It finally clicked in her head. Lupin!

Alex looked at her dad who was quickly making his way towards Remus in attempt to calm him. With the momentary distraction, Peter Pettigrew grabbed Remus' wand from his hand and pointed it at himself with a smirk. Justin quickly pulled his wand out and directed it at him, but they all knew it was too late. He transformed back into a rat and got buried under a pile of clothes. Alex tried to run after the rat but it was too fast, disappearing into the grass. She fell on her knees, her heart sinking at the realization. Without Petter Pettigrew, they didn't have any proof of her father's innocence. His ticket to freedom.

"Remus!" Alex turned to see her father standing in front Remus' large werewolf form. He attempted to calm his friend down but his attempts were ignored as he was tossed aside by the werewolf. The werewolf howled at the moon as a crashing noise came from behind them. Now what?

Alex turned to see Professor Snape making his way towards them. He stopped in front of them, quickly pushing them back as he blocked the werewolf's path to them. The wolf snarled before lunging at Professor Snape, but was quickly intercepted by the black dog. Dad! Alex watched helplessly as the two battled it out on the ground. Her worry growing as the werewolf attempted to bite at the dog's neck a few times. She had to help him somehow before they lose him again. Alex tried to move towards them to help but her brother quickly pulled her back. The two disappeared into the forbidden forest.

"We have to help dad!" Alex pleaded with her brother.

"Alex you could get hurt! Or distract dad enough for him to get hurt." Justin said.

"Sirius!" She looked towards Harry to see he had made his way past Professors Snape and into the forest after her dad and the werewolf. Professor Snape was busy blocking Hermione from following after him. She had to make sure her dad was okay. Even if it meant getting hurt herself. Sorry Justin. Alex kicked Justin really hard in the shins causing him to fall over in pain. She looked at him apologetically before quickly sprinting after Harry, ignoring the calls after her.

Alex ran in the direction she could hear snarling. She listened intently, making sure that her father could still be heard. Alex stopped as the sound of howling came from another part of the forest. The snarling ceased but Alex could hear the wining of a dog. She ran quickly in the direction it came from until she appeared at a clearing beside a lake. She scanned the area until her eyes fell on Harry. Her father's head was resting in his lap.

"Dad!" Alex ran towards them and kneeled beside Harry. He was unconscious. Alex could see blood stains on his tattered clothes but couldn't locate where they came from. Her vision started to blur as her eyes welled up with tears. She had to do something. He could be dying. She couldn't lose her father the day she got him back.

Alex felt a hand cover her own. She looked at Harry with a frown, ready to snap at him for the move, but stopped as her eyes fell on the frightened expression on his face. He wasn't even looking at her. What was he looking at? "Harry, what's wr-"

"Shhh." He pointed to the sky, his hand slightly shaking.

Alex looked above them and gasped as she took in their surrounding. Around them were hundreds of the hooded ghosts that had attacked Harry on the Quidditch field. They were circling around them, as if waiting for something. Alex looked at Harry. He looked more frightened than she had ever seen before.

"They're dementors. They're here for Sirius." Harry explained.

"We can't let them!"

Alex looked up as one of the dementors flew in her direction. She gasped and flinched back but didn't move away from her father. It stopped right above her as the feeling of dread began to spread through her body. She felt like it was sucking all of the joy out of her. Almost like her life was being sucked out. Alex could hear screams near her. Who was screaming? Was it her? She could not longer tell. Her eyes fell on another approaching figure and a bright light, but before she could figure out what it was, her vision blurred and everything went black.

~~~~~
It had been over an hour since Harry awoke in the hospital wing. As soon as he was up, all he could think about was finding Sirius. He tried to leave the room but was instructed not to move from the bed until the headmaster had the chance to speak with him. An hour had passed with most of it spent with him listening to Hermione's lectures to do as he was told. Alex was still unconscious a few beds over and both her brothers were seated beside her, waiting for her to wake. While Max seemed mostly concerned for his sister, Harry could tell that Justin's focus was elsewhere. He was concerned for the fate of his father and how to handle his sister when she woke up and learned of his this.
Harry was relieved when the doors to the hospital opened and in came Professor Dumbledore. Harry slipped off the bed as Hermione stood from her chair and they both made their way towards the headmaster.
"Professor, Sirius is innocent, you can't punish him!" Harry said quickly.
"It's really Scabbers, my rat, who's guilty!" He and Hermione looked at each other, then at Ron. Now noticing that their friend was awake. Ron was sitting up in his bed with a hand resting on the cast covering his leg. He was looking at them with confusion, obviously a bit loopy from whatever Madam Pomfrey had given him for the pain. They looked back at Professor Dumbledore to see him watching them with a skeptical look.
"You have to believe us!" Hermione pleaded.
Professor Dumbledore gave them a small smile. "I believe you but the rest of the world may not." Professor Dumbledore made his way past them, stopping when he was behind Max. He watched Alex sleep, a thoughtful look on his face.
The sound of a clock came and Professor Dumbledore quickly shot his head towards Hermione. "Time is a precious thing that if altered can cause chaos, but if careful it's manipulation can do good." He looked directly at Hermione. "Maybe even save two lives. Three turns should do it." Professor Dumbledore glanced at Alex again then smiled at them before making his way towards the exit of the infirmary. What did that even mean?
Harry looked at Hermione. She was holding a rather large pendant of a sand clock attached to a long silver chain, her mind seemingly lost in thought. She nodded to herself before looking at Ron. "Sorry Ron, since your leg is hurt you can't come." She lifted the chain of, wrapping it around both of their necks.
"Wait!" They both looked over to see Justin standing up, a serious expression on his face. "I am coming with you, this involves me just as much as it involves Harry!"
Max looked at his brother in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
"There's no time to explain!" Justin marched past his brother, taking the chain to put around himself as well. He turned back to Max and sighed. "Take care of Alex. Tell her... everything is going to be okay." Max nodded.
Hermione turned the pendent a few times. Everything began to move around them in a blur. Harry felt his head go light, the dizziness overwhelming him. He closed his eyes, hearing quick murmurs and movement around him as he waited for the dizziness spell to pass. The room suddenly went quiet and Harry opened his eyes. He looked around them to see no one in sight as Hermione removed the chain from their necks.
"Where are we? Where's Ron?" Harry looked around them in confusion. Ron was just there.
"And Alex and Max?" Justin asked. He looked to where Alex was laying only a few moments earlier to see her bed also empty.
"It's seven-thirty, where were we at seven-thirty?" Hermione looked at Justin and Harry. Seven-thirty? They had been studying in the quad at six-thirty so they were either still making their way to Hagrid's hut or were already there.
"Alex and I were on our way to Hagrid's hut." He looked at Justin who was staring at Hermione seriously. "I remember checking the time so I could make sure I got Alex back to the great hall for dinner."
Hermione nodded at him. "We should go." She turned and walked quickly out of the room. Justin and Harry looked at each other in confusion before running after her. They followed Hermione's quickly through the castle, none of them saying a word. Frankly, he still didn't understand what was going on. When Hermione finally stopped, they were at the entrance to the castle which led to Hagrid's hut. Hermione stopped behind a pillar holding a hand to stop them from moving forward.
"Look."
Harry looked around Hermione to see Alex a few feet away from them. She marched angrily towards Malfoy and kicked him hard in the shin. Malfoy doubled over on the ground while Justin watched on in shock. Wait, Justin? He looked behind him to see Justin staring at the other him in awe. Why were there two Justins?
"This was... very interesting to watch again." Justin expression morphed to one that was pleased. He looked back at Alex to see her no longer standing by Malfoy, instead making her way down to Hagrid's hut. Duplicate Justin followed after her, glancing back at Malfoy occasionally to make sure they didn't follow after them. Harry smiled to himself as he looked on at Malfoy's moaning form on the ground.
"That was just as brilliant as when Hermione socked him after this." He turned to Justin.
"Can we watch that too?" Justin looked at them hopefully.
"Not now. Come, we need to hide behind the pumpkins before Malfoy and his friends notice us!" Hermione quickly snuck past Malfoy and his friends. Justin and Harry followed after her quietly until they reached Hagrid's hut. Hermione motioned for them to follow after her behind the pile of giant pumpkins.
"Can you now explain what is going on?" Harry asked.
Hermione sighed before turning to face him, crossing her hands over her chest. "My necklace is for time traveling. It has gotten me to my classes this whole year. I think Dumbledore's wants us to use it to save Sirius. I'm just not sure what he meant by two lives." Hermione frowned as she leaned back against a pumpkin.
"It would have been sometime between Alex finding out about Buckbeak and everything that happened with our father." Justin states aunt a thoughtful look on his face. A look of realization appeared on both Justin and Hermione's faces as they looked at each other.
"Buckbeak!"
"You mean we need to set Buckbeak free?" Harry asked.
"Yes! The timing works out perfectly because Buckeak is still alive. But we need to wait until after Fudge has seen him, so they don't suspect Hagrid set him free." They all looked towards the castle to see Fudge, the executioner, and Professor Dumbledore making their way towards the castle.
"That's them! Wait… they're almost to Hagrid's hut. Why aren't we leaving?" Justin looked at us with worry.
Harry looked at Hermione to see her staring through the window in thought. She scanned the area around them, stopping when her eyes fell on a small stone sitting on one of the pumpkins. "This is why." She picked up the stone, quickly hurling it towards the window. It hit a jar, shattering it. The other Hermione and Harry looked by the window in confusion. "The jar is broken, now for Harry."
"What do you mean by that?"
Hermione ignored Harry as she began searching for another stone. She quickly found one on the ground and chucked it towards the hut. This time it went through the window and hit the other Harry directly on the back of the head.
Harry quickly placed a hand on the back of his head as he looked at Hermione. "Hey! That really hurt!"
"We have no time, come before they see us!" Hermione pulled Justin and Harry into the trees. They watched as the other Hermione, Ron, and Justin scurried out of the hut. Harry and Alex were behind them, Harry holding Alex's hand as he led her out of the hut with him. He frowned. Why did holding her hand feel so right, even though he knew Alex was with Cedric? Harry averted his gaze, noticing Justin was watching him.
"I'm sorry Harry." Justin looked at him sympathetically.
"Sorry? Why would you be sorry?"
"I know you like my sister. And honestly, I think Alex kind of liked you too, in the beginning. We just couldn't risk getting any attention on ourselves because of who our father is. When we can to Hogwarts, that was the one thing our uncle asked of us, to stay out of the spotlight. When I found out Alex had befriended you, I told her to stay away from you. That's why she stopped talking to you after our first day at Hogwarts." Justin explained.
"So she did want to be our friend?" Harry asked. Justin nodded. It all made sense now. No wonder Alex suddenly stopped talking to Harry and his friend. And she always looked like she felt so guilty about how she treated them. Was it possible Alex still had feelings for him the way he had feelings for her?
"Look, they're running towards the castle, this is our chance. I'll go set Buckbeak free! Harry, you watch past us. Justin, you watch the hut!"
Hermione slowly made her way towards Buckbeak, grabbing some fish from a pail nearby. She held out the fish to Buckbeak, waving it around to lure the him after her. The hippogriff excitedly got up and followed Hermione away from Hagrid's hut. Harry watched as their past selves continued making their way up towards the castle, thankfully not take a look back. Harry looked toward the forest to see that Hermione and Buckbeak were no longer visible to them. He nodded towards Justin.
"We should get going to." Justin nodded but kept his eyes on the hut as the two walked in the direction they saw Hermione and Buckbeak disapear towards. The were able to make it to the forest just as the door to Hagrid's hut opened.
In the forest, they found Hermione kneeled on the floor beside Buckbeak, petting the hippogriff as he happily ate the fish Hermione had lured him out with.
"Now what?" Justin asked.
"Now we wait. We'll have to wait for everything that happened at the Shrieking Shack to pass at least." They nodded as Hermione continued to pet Buckbeak. Harry and Justin each found a tree to sit against as they waited. They all watched Buckbeak, saying nothing as they sat in silence. It wasn't until they heard howling nearby that three of them quickly got up.
"That's Professor Lupin. He must of transformed to a wolf. Justin moved closer to the edge of the forest to take a look. "I don't remember Professor Lupin and dad fighting this long. Why are they still fighting?" He turned and looked at them with worry.
"Professor Lupin got distracted by a wolf howling. It should be howling right about now." Harry looked at Justin and Hermione, Hermione had a concentrated look on her face.
"Maybe…" He watched as Hermione's frown turned into a smile. She held her hands to her mouth and howled as loud as she could.
"Yes... that's the howl."
"Won't the wolf come for us now?" Justin's eyes widened as they heard a howl nearby.
"Now, we run!" Hermione yelled as she started to make her way back in the direction they came from. Before they could move too far, the wolf appeared in front of them. Hermione stopped immediately and hesitantly taking a step back, nearly tripping over Harry and Justin. As they attempted to hold her up, the wolf snarled at them and took a menacing step forward.
"Oh no."
The wolf attempted to lunge towards them but a giant figure slammed into the wolf, knocking it to the ground unconscious. Buckbeak stood before them, looking on in triumph. "Good boy!" Harry looked down at the wolf who seemed to be coming to, groaning. "I think…"
"Harry look!" Justin pointed up. Harry looked to the sky to see hundreds of dementors passing over them. A feeling of dread spread around them. "They're after dad!"
Harry made a run for it, heading in the direction the dementors were going. He could hear Justin and Hermione following after him but didn't stop to look back. He only stopped when they were at the edge of the forest, across the lake from Alex, Sirius, and himself. His past self was sitting with his arms wrapped around both Sirius' and Alex's unconscious bodies. More and more dementors were closing in on the three of them.
This was it. This was when his father saved them from the dementors. Harry smiled as he looked on. Where was he? It was time.
"Harry, what are we waiting for?" He looked at Hermione and Justin, who were both watching him with concern.
He shook his head. "This is when me dad comes. He saves them. I remember it."
"Harry..." Hermione hesitated. "No one is coming."
"But I saw it. I saw the spell."
"They're dying Harry!" Justin almost yelled. "You, Alex, my dad. They are dying."
It couldn't be. Harry looked back at his past self to see him weakening as he tried to keep the dementors away from Sirius and Alex. They were dying. Harry shook his head. He wouldn't allow them to die. Harry marched towards the edge of the lake and pulled out his wand, pointing it straight into the sky.
"Expecto Patronum!"
~~~~~

"Mione, where exactly are we going?" Harry asked Hermione for the tenth time since they had watched Sirius, Alex and past Harry get taken away. It took a lot of convincing for Hermione to keep Justin and Harry from taking Sirius right then and there. After a painfully long wait, the three of them ended up on Buckbeak's back, soaring through the sky.

"I told you guys, we need to save Sirius." Hermione said as Buckbeak landed on the balcony of the highest tower in the castle. She made her way off Buckbeak and ran towards the dungeon door while Harry and Justin looked on in confusion. They watched as Hermione pulled out her wand and pointed it at the door, blasting it open. Harry was relieved when Sirius made his way out of the dungeon.

"Boys." Sirius smiled as he joined them on the hippogriff.

"We can talk later. We should get going." Hermione joined them before signaling Buckbeak to depart.

"I'm not really fond of flying!" Justin said nervously as Buckbeak jumped back into the air.

Sirius looked at his son with a smile. "Neither was your mother."

Justin smiled at Sirius. They flew silently for a few minutes. Harry noticed Hermione pet Buckbeak a few times before the bird began to descend. Harry looked before them to see they were landing outside the Forbidden Forest.

When they landed, Justin and Sirius were the first to get off. They walked off a few steps Away and began to speak to one another. Harry watched them from the corner of his eye as He stood with Hermione and Buckbeak. Where do they go from here?

"Harry." He looked at Hermione to see her pointing in Sirius' and Justin's direction. He turned to see them both looking at him, Sirius waving him over to join them.

"Harry, Justin, there is so much you two do not know that I want to tell you, and in time I'll tell you it all."

He turned to Justin first. "Justin, you have cared for your sister well all these years and I wanted to take the weight off your shoulders but it seems to me that your responsibilities are not over. I need you to care for your sister and let her always know that I love her and though I am not beside her, I am always with her. You must also know that whatever you might have heard about your mother's death was not entirely true. Your mother did die at the hands of Voldemort, but not because she wouldn't join him. She was with Harry's parents, to talk to them about not have Peter Pettigrew as the keeper. I was at home with the two of you. She died trying to protect her family." He stopped and turned towards Harry.

"Harry, I want so much that you, my godson, to come with me just as much as I want to take my son and daughter. But I cannot. You three belong here and I am sure you will take care of each other. Seeing you again makes me relive all the memories I had with your father. You look so much like him. Except for the eyes of course, those are undoubtably your mother's. Just know, I am here for you whenever you need me."

He paused, smiling at both of them. "I did not get the chance to give a proper goodbye to Alex, but I hope you two can make her understand. Also, Justin, you and Alex must know something. When you were born I made James your godfather and when Alex was born I made Remus her godfather. I know without a doubt that Remus would have raised all three of you as his own but because he was a werewolf, he couldn't risk the three of you getting hurt. I asked Albus and Remus to send you both to Jerry, who is a second cousin of mine. We don't associate with these cousins too much since they are not 'Blacks' but I've always know Jerry and his family to be good people. I want you both to return to New York just as I want Harry to return to his aunt an uncle so you can be safe. I promise you both and Alex, we will see each other soon. Because I can only stay away from my godson, son, and daughter for only so long." Sirius smiled at them.

"You should get going and so should we. It's getting late." Hermione said as she approached them. Sirius nodded. They all said their goodbyes before watching as Sirius mounted Buckbeak and disappeared into the sky.
