Its was only the first day of the school year and of course Justin couldn't find his sister anywhere. Since Justin had taken third year DADA during his fourth year, he was taking both fourth and fifth year DADA this year. Because of this, Alex and Justin actually had a class together and had planned to meet up before their Defense Against the Dark Arts class. He had looked for her in the Great Hall for breakfast after he found out from Hermione that Alex wasn't in the girls dormitories. Justin considered that possibility that his sister got apprehended for the prank she pulled on the first day, but doubted it. If she got caught, the news would have reached all the students. He would have heard of it by now.
"Justin! Justin!" He turned around to see Ginny running towards him. Half of him wanted to run since he and Ginny had barely said more than a few words to each other since the fire, but the other half knew that it was the cowardly way to go.
"Good morning Ginny. What's going on?" He looked away nervously, unable to meet her eyes.
"Hermione said you were looking for Alex. I saw her earlier in the courtyard with Cedric. Things seemed to be fine but she ran off. She seemed pretty upset. So did Cedric." Alex and Cedric don't fight. I mean he knew they would get mad at each other sometimes... but they didn't fight.
"Do you know what happened?"
"No, I couldn't hear anything from where I was. It happened so suddenly. They were fine, just chatting at first but then it seemed to turn into a bit of a misunderstanding."
"Okay, thanks for telling me. I should probably go find my sister and make sure she is okay." Justin turned to walk away but stopped momentarily and turned back to her. "Seriously, thanks Ginny. I appreciate that you came out here and told me despite... everything."
Ginny smiled and nodded. "Of course. Happy to be of help Justin."
~~~~~
Justin walked into the DADA classroom with the hope of finding his sister there. He was relieved to find only one seat occupied towards the middle of the classroom by his sister. He could tell by the way she was scribbling furiously in her notebook that she was not in a good mood. Justin slowly made his way over to his sister, not saying anything as he seated himself in the chair in front of her table. He dropped his bag on the seat beside his own and turned his chair so he was facing Alex. She didn't take any notice to him as she continued to scribble angrily into her notbook.
"So... what happened?" Justin asked hesitantly.
Alex looked up irritably. "Stop annoying me Justin. That's all boys are good for. Being annoying." Alex almost hissed before turning her attention back down to her notebook. Justin looked down to see her sketching flames all over he paper.
"Maybe talking about it will make you feel better."
"Leave me alone." Alex stood up.
"Come on Alex-" Justin cut himself off as he watched his sister pull her want out of her boot. "Alex, what are you doing? I-" Before he could say anything else to her, Alex whispered something under her breath and the notebook bursts into flames between them. "Alex!" Justin quickly jumped out of his seat and onto the ground as the flames grew in height. From the floor he could see his sister standing in front of the fire, her eyes watching the fire angrily. Her anger barely allowed her to register the chaos before her.
As the flames grew, Justin worried the fire would burn his sister. He tried to stand as the temperature of the room increased from the flames. Just as he made his way to his feet, the door burst open and the heat and the flames disappeared. As the flames completed burned out, he spotted Professor Dumbalore and Professor Snape standing at the door. They both made their way into the classroom, their eyes focused on the siblings.
"I want you in my office, now!" Professor Snape said as he narrowed his eyes towards Alex. He stopped beside Professor Dumbledore, who was already standing in front of his sister.
The headmaster looked at Justin first. "Mr. Russo, you can stay for class. Let Professor Moody know that your sister has been called away by Professor Snape. Ms. Russo, Professor Snape will accompany you to his office. I have a prior engagement but may join the both of you if I can."
Justin nodded silently as Professor Snape put a hand on Alex's shoulder and led her out of the classroom with her bag and books in his arms. Professor Dumbledore followed them out the door. He paused briefly at the door, looking in the direction Alex and Professor Snape had gone with a thoughtful expression before heading in the opposite direction. Justin could only slump down in his chair and stare at the scorched table before him. What have you done Alex?
~~~~~
Alex followed Professor Snape silently as they made their way into his classroom. He signaled her to the front of the classroom as he dropped her items on a desk. She sighed but obliged, taking a seat at the table closest to the front of his classroom. He stood before her, his arms crossed as he looked at Alex with a raised eyebrow.
"Ms. Russo, I think you know very well that your behavior moments ago was completely unacceptable. I think we have all grown accustomed to your antics, but this was not just a silly... joke."
"I didn't think it was a joke Professor Snape." Alex responded curtly.
"Care to explain what you think it was then?"
"Maybe I was just trying to get someone's attention?" Alex looked at him.
"That isn't a good choice on your part Ms. Russo. The less attention you attract on yourself, the better." He gave Alex a knowing look as he pulled out his wand from his robes. With a flick of his wand, her notebook appeared on the table between them, in the condition it was in before she had set it on fire. "Now, let us see what the commotion was about, shall we?"
Alex attempted to grab the notebook but was too slow as Professor Snape picked it up easily and opened it to the first page. He looked from Alex to the notebook in curiously.
"Fire. Your drew fire. Do you care to explain how this drawing is related to your recent outburst?"
"It wasn't an outburst, I was just trying to get someone's attention." Alex reached out for her notebook, grabbing it from him before putting it in her bag. He stared at her unimpressed.
"Ms. Russo, you are my most brilliant student of the non-Slytherin type in a very long time." He drawled. "I put in the effort to actually understand and watch over the students I don't despise, such as yourself. You don't actually expect me to believe that what you did in that classroom was an attempt to get the attention of the headmaster?"
Alex looked at him in surpise as a rare smirk formed on his lips. She didn't think the man could show emotions. "How do you know I was trying to get the attention of Professor Dumbledore?"
"It's quite obvious, who else would you be trying to get the attention of? I'm sure your father has told you by now of your maternal lineage." Snape looked away bored.
"How do you know about my maternal lineage. And who even uses words like maternal lineage?"
Snape shot Alex a glare. "I happened to know more than you think."
"But-"
"Get out of my sight." He interrupted her.
"What?"
"I said, get out of my sight. I'm not punishing you this time so you are excused to return to class." Alex stared at him in disbelief. "Let me make myself clear, Ms. Russo. If I find you repeating this offense or any offense to this level, I will not be as forgiving." He narrowed his eyes at her.
"You're only forgiving me because Dumbledore's my uncle."
"The headmaster is under the impression that I would be awarding you with weeks of detention for your rather stupid and irresponsible behavior. And given his ethics, he would agree that the punishment is fitting. Don't push your luck."
"So... you don't need to know why I actually did it?"
"It's not my business to know why my students act out. It's only my business to make sure they don't do it again, especially if they happen to be the headmaster's only niece. You are excused. I would recommend you spend the rest of the time you have before your next class thinking of better ways to use your creativity. Now leave."
Alex stood up wordlessly, in too much shock from what happened to say anything. He was actually letting her go? As she made her way towards the door, she picked up her bag and books, making sure not to make a noise as she escaped his classroom.

"I'm serious! My parents didn't know what to do… I mean two of Alex? It was a disaster!"
"I'm sure it was." Mikayla laughed as she shook her head in disbelief. Max smiled as he watched her turn away from him to face forward in her seat. He scanned the classroom and realized that there were a lot more people there now, including some of his friends. Most of the desks near him were also filled.
"Max." He turned back to see his best friend Theo leaning over his own desk with a grin. Max looked at him with a raised eyebrow as he moved closer to whisper in his ear. "Watch out, Marietta should be here soon. If she sees this, there will be flames."
Max looked at him in confusion as he leaned back in his seat. As Max pondered what he meant, he heard the doors to the classroom fly open.
"Max! There you are!" He looked towards the door to see Marietta smiling wide as she made her way over to his desk. "I was looking for you all morning!" She slipped into the seat beside him, scooting her seat closer to him. She smiled wider as she placed a delicate hand on his shoulder. What is she doing?
"Hey Marietta... well I was kinda busy giving Mikayla a tour of the school. We got to class early so we were just hanging out." He looked over at Mikayla who looking over at them with a smile. She waved at Marietta, who seemed to be sending her an angry look.
"Max-y, you're way too nice. Someone else could have taken care of helping her." Marietta complained as she leaned closer to him.
"I guess... but she doesn't really know anyone else and I think we're kinda friends now so I wanted to help." Max replied. He glanced at Makayla who was looking at their exchange awkwardly. He couldn't help but be a little embarrassed by Marietta.
"I know... But don't you remember how we planned on walking to class together on our first day. Remember? We were taking about it all summer in our owls to each other." She emphasized the word 'all' a little loudly. He did forget about that...
"Man, Marietta, I'm sorry. I totally forgot! I was running late this morning, and-"
He stopped talking as a finger immediately covered his lips. Marietta had leaned all the way towards him, staring straight into his eyes mischievously. Max was too shocked to even move. "Don't worry hun, I'm not mad. I'm sad actually to have missed our alone time. It's okay though, we have all year, right?"
"Right…" He responded as he leaned away from her
"It's a date." She smiled wide as she leaned away from him and scooted her chair back to its original place.
As she busied herself with unpacking her things from her bag, Max took the opportunity to look at Theo. He gave his friend a questioning look but his friend said nothing, only shrugging in response. Max turned his attention towards Mikayla to see her focus on a book in front of her, her hair concealing her face. Max did try to get her attention again throughout the class, but to his disappointment, she never turned around again.
