Harry was in a dilemma. He had spent the entirely of the week trying to get a moment alone with Alex to talk to her about their kiss. As every day went by and he missed his chance to speak with her, he wasn't so sure that he even wanted to talk to her anymore. When he really thought about the situation, he realized there were only two possible outcomes of their conversation. Either Alex felt the same as he did, or she didn't. And either way they had other challenges ahead of them. Nothing would please Harry more than to hear from Alex that she felt the same way for him as he did for her. But there was a problem that they faced with this. Alex was already with Cedric, and it wouldn't be easy to end things between them without hurting the senior Hufflepuff. On the other hand, there was always the possibility that Alex did not feel the same as he did. In this case Harry would be absolutely heartbroken. And after so many months of friendship, Harry was concerned how this would effect their relationship. Would he be able to continue being only friends with Alex and accept that she didn't share his feelings? Would he be able to get past their kiss? Would it make family gatherings awkward?
Harry sighed as he looked down at the watch on his wrist. He had only fifteen minutes until he'd need to be in the Great Hall for dinner. Would fifteen minutes be enough time to track down Alex and talk to her?
"Harry." He looked up as his eyes fell on the girl on his mind. Alex looked at Harry warmly as she walked down the hallway towards him. She stopped in front of him, clasping her hands together a bit nervously. "I was looking for you."
"Oh, were you?" He looked at her curiously.
"Yes. Um, can we go somewhere more... private?" She motioned to a door nearby. Harry looked at her, nodding silently.
Harry walked behind Alex as she led them towards the door. The both slipped inside, not saying a word as they made their way into an empty classroom. Harry recognized it as the former classroom that housed Care of Magical Creatures. Alex motioned him towards a pair of seats at the front of the classroom. Harry nodded as he followed her to the seats, taking the left seat as Alex took the right one.
"I was starting to wonder when you'd make some time to speak to me." Harry looked at her.
"Uh, yeah. I wasn't sure either. So many meetings and all. I haven't really had the chance to see Max and..." Alex trailed off, her eyes looking away from his. "I figured now would be the best time. Everyone else is likely running to dinner."
"Right." He nodded.
"Harry, I need to get this off my chest but hear me out all the way because I don't want you to misunderstand me."
"O-kay.." Harry nodded again. He took a deep breath as he tried to calm his heart that seemed to have increased its beats as soon as they had entered the room.
"Harry, I've had a lot of time to think about all of this. I've been avoiding Cedric for a week and avoiding you for a week too... it's not fair to either of you." Harry nodded at Alex, motioning her to continue. "I like you Harry, I really like you. And I can't lie to you and say that I never felt a connection between us. I've felt it since the first day we saw each other in the Great Hall."
"I really like you too Alex." Harry smiled, leaning closer to her.
Alex frowned at him, breaking eye contact. "I can't break up with Cedric."
"What do you mean? You just said-"
"That I like you." Alex finished, her eyes meeting his again. "I do like you... but then I started dating Cedric and I started to like him. And my feelings for him grew. And it sucked because I knew I still liked you the whole time, but... my feelings for Cedric did grow."
"So you like both of us?" Harry asked in confusion. What did this mean for them?
Alex shook her head "Harry... I think that even though I do have feelings for you, we might have missed our chance. Like the attraction is there but there was someone else who came into my life and now I can't really imagine not being with him. In that moment when I kissed you, I didn't think about anyone or anything else. But then I remembered Cedric and literally since that moment I haven't been able to stop hating myself for betraying him. Cedric doesn't deserve that." Alex sighed, looking at Harry apologetically.
"Do you think you love him?"
She smiled in embarrassment. "I'm not sure. Maybe? Not that it even matters now. Cedric will probably break up with me once he finds out about our kiss."
"You're going to tell him?" Harry looked at her in surprise.
"I'm going to have to. I don't think I could hide something like this from him." Alex looked away, biting her lip nervously. "Harry... I think it might be best we distance ourselves from each other... at least for now."
"Oh..." Harry responded in disappointment. This was definitely not how he was expecting this conversation with Alex to go.
"I'm sorry Harry. I think I should go." Alex gave him an apologetic look as she stood up. He stared after her, a part of him wishing he'd never kissed Alex in the first place.

"Finally!" Alex's eyes widened as she heard the familiar voice behind her. She picked up her pace, hoping to outrun Cedric before he could catch up to her. She was disappointed when an arm grabbed her and she was pulled back. "Alex!" His arms wrapped around her as he pulled her to his chest in an embrace.
"You're safe. I've been trying to get just one moment alone with you all week." He squeezed her tighter, planting a light kiss on her cheek. "I'm not letting you go anymore."
Alex squirmed in his arm, the discomfort from her guilt eating at her. Even after being so unsupportive of him entering the tournament, he found a way of being so sweet to her.
"I'm going to let you go, but promise me you won't run away again?" He said as he only slightly loosened his hold on her. "Promise me."
"Promise." Alex whispered.
"Good." Cedric released her. He turned her so they were facing each other but kept his hands secured around her waist. "Can we talk about the tournament?"
Alex shook her head. Cedric frowned. "Nothing to talk about. I'm not happy about it, but... if this is really important to you, I'll support you."
"Really? You mean that Alex?" Cedric asked as he stared at his girlfriend in happy disbelief.
"I do." She nodded.
"You're amazing." He leaned forward, taking Alex's chin gently in his hand as he leaned in for a kiss. Alex kissed him back half-heartedly, the guilt eating up at her more. How could he be so wonderful to her? Cedric pulled away slightly to look at Alex adoringly. "You don't have to say it back, but I want you to know. I love you Alex."
Alex stared at him in shock, her body freezing at the words. She couldn't respond. It wasn't right. She could see the joy in his eyes from being able to say it out loud. If only she could say it back. She couldn't though... not after what happened with Harry.
Cedric's face dropped slightly, noticing the panic in Alex's eyes. "I really mean it, Alex. I don't expect you to say it back. Don't feel guilty about it." Cedric assured her, pulling her into his arms. "I don't need you to tell me that you love me to know how much I mean to you." He squeezed her gently against his chest.
"I kissed Harry." She blurted out, no longer being able to hold it in.
Cedric's hands dropped from Alex's body immediately as he took a step back, slowly backing himself away from her. He stared at Alex, the confusion and betrayal apparent on his face. "You- you kissed Harry? As in Harry Potter?"
Alex nodded, a tear escaping down her cheek as she looked at him. "A week ago. The same day as our fight."
Cedric nodded, a bitter smile crossing over his face. "My friends were right. I was just too blind to see it." He looked away from her, shaking his head in disappointment. "I'm an idiot."
"No you're not. I'm sorry Cedric." Alex choked out.
"So am I." Cedric shook his head at her before turning and walking away.
"Cedric." Alex called out. But she knew he wasn't coming back. So she did the only thing she could do, she watched him walk away as she let the guilt she deserved consume her.
