~Everything's Not What It Seems~

Alex and Justin are siblings sent to Hogwarts to learn about magic just like their father. There they meet new friends, fall in love, and find out that truly everything is not what it seems.

"You can look now Ms. Russo." Severus rolled his eyes as he continued to watch the arena in boredom.

"I'm think I'm good." Alex responded. She had just spent the last two hours distracting herself by staring at her mother's necklace. After seeing a dragon attempt to burn her brother to a crisp, she couldn't get herself to watch the rest of his challenge as well as Cedric and Harry's.

"Don't you hear the irritating cheers for your friend Potter. It's over."

"Great. Then it's time for me to leave." Alex shot a quick smile at Snape as she stood up.

"I would have expected you to enjoy seeing wizards avoid the brink of death." He commented.

"And in any other case you would be correct. But being that the wizards in this case are people I care about, I'd rather not watch. See ya later Professor Snape."

Alex caught the eye roll as she turned and made her way up the stands. The other professor didn't make any effort to move as they cheered on for Harry. At least she'd avoid the crowd. She was surprised to find not too many people were exiting the arena yet, making it easy for Alex to make her way out. Two sets of stairs later and she was standing at the entrance of the arena, the path that led back to the castle ahead of her. She smiled as she looked out. "Finally."

"Were you waiting for something?"

Alex turned to look for the source of the unfamiliar voice. She stopped suddenly, staring in surprise as her eyes fell on the brunette she'd locked eyes with at the Quidditch World Cup. Those eyes. Alex found herself staring at the boy.

"Hello?"

"Oh." Alex snapped out of her trance. "Sorry, I... you..." She took a deep breath. "No, I was not waiting for anyone. I'm headed back to the castle." She gave him a curt smile before turning and heading in the direction she originally set out for.

"That's three times." He called out.

Alex stopped. She bit her lip as she contemplated whether she should turn around. Did she have the mental capacity for the conversation with this stranger or was she better off proceeding to her bed in Gryffindor Tower. Damnit, she wanted to know. She turned around, raising an expectant eyebrow at him. He smiled as she looked at him, crossing his arms over his chest. "Okay, I'll bite. What happened three times."

"That was the third time we saw each other but I still don't know your name." He placed a hand on his chin as he stared at her curiously. "Isn't that unfortunate?"

"Three times?" Alex looked at him unimpressed. "You mean two. At the World Cup and today."

"And in the Great Hall on the first day. You were wearing a cast on you leg." His eyes flashed to her leg briefly before returning to her eyes. "Looks like you fixed that."

Alex didn't remember him seeing her. He seemed so focused on making his way down the isle with Victor and their headmaster. "Okay... three times. Let's not make a habit of these run-ins, shall we?"

Alex turned and started to make her way towards the castle again. She sighed in frustration when she heard quick footsteps behind her. She looked beside her to see that he had invited himself for the walk.

"I still don't know your name."

"I know yours, it's Adam Good. And I know you're kind of a celebrity. I don't think you need to know my name." Alex turned her attention back to the path ahead of her.

"Maybe not... but I'd like to know your name." She looked at him again, noticing the cocky smile on his face.

"I have a boyfriend." Alex rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest. "Cedric Diggory. You might have heard of him?"

Adam looked at her curiously. "You're Diggory's girl? I heard you two were on the brink of splitting."

"You heard wrong." Alex clenched her teeth.

Adam shrugged. "Could've. All I'm asking for is a name. You can't deny me that."

Alex stared at him silently as he stared back at her with a small smile.

"Alex Russo." She replied as she turned away from Adam, continuing her journey to the castle.

"Where have you been Alex?" Alex looked up as her younger brother approached her. After her run-in with Adam outside the Arena, she had decided to spend the rest of the afternoon hiding out at the Green Houses.

"You know both the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs are partying it up in their common rooms? Celebrating Harry, Justin and Cedric.

"I didn't know. I've been here since the end of the first challenge." Alex shrugged.

"Doing what?"

Alex pulled her cell phone out of her pocket, waving it at her brother. "Using my phone to text to Harper while I can. Everyone here is weird about phones."

Max nodded as he took a seat on the floor in front of her. "Are you going to head back."

"No, I'm too lazy. I didn't think it through when I decided to hide out literally on the opposite side of the castle. Guess I'll just stay here until I have to go to class on Monday." Alex shrugged with a smile.

"It is kind of cool here. I'd live here."

"So, what's going on with you?" Alex looked at her brother. "We haven't really seen much of each other since we got back to Hogwarts."

"I think Professor Snape is warming up to me. The other day he got through all of Potions without calling me an insufferable idiot. I was kinda surprised and impressed with myself." Max smiled proudly.

"I don't know about warming up to you but he seems to be getting used to your existence. I honestly question why he even likes me." Alex laughed.

"I think you underestimate how likable you are Alex."

"My only friends are the golden trio and the twins." Alex rolled her eyes. "Doesn't really scream popular."

"No... but everyone is curious about you. Your pranks have made you a popular topic of discussion. My friend Theo pretty much idolizes you, you know." Max laughed.

"I didn't know I had fans." Alex pursed her lips. "What else do you hear about me?"

"A lot of the guys think you're really pretty." Max frowned. "It's kind of gross how much I hear that from the guys. A lot of them wish you weren't dating Cedric. They're jealous he snatched you up before they had a chance."

Alex nodded, forcing a smile at the mention of Cedric's name.

"I've been meaning to ask you... how are things with Cedric? I... I might have overheard some things. I just want to make sure you're okay."

Alex looked at her brother hesitantly. "You heard I kissed Harry?"

"You kissed Harry?" Max stared at her in surprise. "I mean... I heard Cedric's friends tell him that they think you have a thing for Harry. I didn't actually think it was true though." Max frowned. "Does he know?"

Alex averted her gaze. "He does. He won't even look at me, let alone speak to me. If he wasn't so shocked in that moment, I'm pretty sure he would have broken up with me by now. Not that I blame him."

"I'm sure you guys will work it out. It's pretty obvious he really likes you. Whenever his friends would make a comment about you and Harry, he would defend you." Max gave her an encouraging smile.

"Really?"

"Yeah." Max moved closer to his sister, throwing an arm around her shoulder. "And even if he doesn't want to make it work, it would be his loss. You're a catch."

"Thanks Max." Alex smiled, leaning into her little brother's embrace. "Hey Max, can you do me a favor?"

"Sure."

"Don't tell Justin about the kiss. He'd likely tell our dad and I don't want to make things complicated."

"Sure, I won't tell Justin." Max nodded.

"Thanks." Alex smiled back. "So..." Alex looked at her brother with a smirk. "Tell me about you. Don't think I haven't noticed you eyeing a certain Beauxbatons transfer."

"Oh... uh..."

New chapter! After... 7 years? Damn I actually had it planned to finish this 7 years ago but I lost everything I wrote so I kinda gave up. With the pandemic I needed something to occupy my time so here I am, rewriting this story. For anyone who is super confused what's going on... I slightly rewrote all the chapters and heavily rewrote the last few chapters. Guess we'll see if I ever get around to finishing this...
