~Everything's Not What It Seems~
Alex and Justin are siblings sent to Hogwarts to learn about magic just like their father. There they meet new friends, fall in love, and find out that truly everything is not what it seems.

"Why is everyone going crazy trying to find a date." Alex asked Hermione as they watched Harry and Ron attempt to approach a group of girls in the courtyard. It had been a week since the announcement of the Yule Ball and it seemed like day by day, the boys weren't any closer to asking a girl to accompany them to the ball.
"Possibly because neither want to show up to the ball by themselves. Not everyone is as lucky as you are. You didn't even have to worry about getting a date." Hermione responded. She rolled her eyes as the two boys chickened out and made their way towards Hermione and Alex.
"Right..."
"Why do they all move in packs?" Ron asked as he took a seat beside Hermione on the bench.
"Because they want to avoid getting cornered by boys they don't like." Alex responded, smiling at the glare Ron shot her in response.
"Shouldn't you be with my brothers, planning another way to get expelled?"
"Your brothers are playing quidditch with a few of the fourth and fifth years." Alex frowned. "I respectfully declined joining them because I didn't want to hit someone with my broom today."
"Can you even play quidditch?" Ron asked as he looked at Alex doubtfully.
"The twins taught me how to play once... we decided I'm not particularly good at it."
"I-" Ron paused, his eyes going wide as he stared off into the distance.
"What?"
"Oh, it's Adam Good! He's here!" Ron fawned. Alex and Hermione both rolled their eyes. "Alex." He gave her a knowing look.
Alex stared at Ron's expression a moment before sighing. She grabbed her book bag as she stood up from the bench.
"Where are you going?" Hermione asked.
"To ask for a favor." Alex responded over her shoulder.
She ignored the stares as she made her way to the other side of the courtyard. Alex watched Adam as she walked towards him. He was seated on the ground in front of a tree, his eyes focused on a textbook in his lap. He looked up curiously as the whispers grew around him.
"Alex Russo. We meet again." He smiled as he looked her up and down.
"Adam Good. I need a favor." She ignored the smirk that appeared on his face as she stopped in front of him.
"The fourth time we meet and we're already at a level of friendship to ask for favors. I wasn't aware this was the case." Adam motioned for Alex to join him by the tree.
"I'm fine standing." She ignored him, crossing her arms over her chest.
Adam only smiled in response. "How can I be of service?"
"I have this friend. He's a big quidditch fan... particularly yours and Victor Krum's. I might have promised him an autograph."
"My autograph?" Adam raised an eyebrow. "Hmmm" Adam looked at her thoughtfully as he held a hand to his chin.
"What?" Alex stared.
"So... what exactly do I get in exchange for the autograph? I assume you promised this friend something." Adam smiled again.
Damnit. Alex frowned. She was counting on Adam just giving her the autographs. He seemed like a pushover to her the first time they'd met.
"I'm waiting."
"Well... what did you want?" Alex shifted her weight to one foot as she looked at him with a bored expression.
"I was hoping you'd ask. So I just heard about the ball that's coming up. I don't actually have a date and being that you and Diggory are on the rocks, I thought I'd ask you to accompany me. It wouldn't be right for the Adam Good to show up to the Yule Ball without the prettiest lady on his arm." He winked at Alex.
"For your information-"
"Alex." Alex stopped suddenly in surprise. She turned to her left to see Cedric approaching her, a tense smile on his face. He stopped beside Alex and wrapped an arm around her waist as he turned his body to face Adam. "Adam Good. I don't think we have formally met. My name is-"
"Cedric Diggory." Adam finished, interrupting Cedric as he stood up. "I think everyone around here knows who you are." Adam rolled his eyes as he approached them, extending his hand.
"Fair enough." Cedric responded, taking his hand and shaking it firmly.
"This might be the first time I've seen you two together." Adam smirked. "Every time I've run into Alex she has been by her lonesome self. If she was my girl, I wouldn't leave her for even a moment." Adam looked at Alex this time. "We actually were just talking about the Yule Ball."
"You don't have to worry about Alex being alone or the Yule Ball." Cedric said through clenched teeth.
"Don't I?" Adam asked.
"It was a pleasure meeting you but I think Alex should get to class." Cedric didn't wait for Adam to respond as he removed his arm from around Alex's waist to take hold of her wrist. He immediately turned in the opposition direction, pulling her away from the courtyard.
Alex followed quietly as Cedric led her to the opposite direction of the Charms classroom, where her next class would be. When he finally stopped walking, they were in front of the castle entrance that led to the owlry. Cedric released his hold on her wrist, walking a few steps away from her as he ran a frustrated hand through his hair. Alex stared at him, unsure what to say.
"What were you doing with Adam Good?" Cedric asked, avoiding eye contact. Alex realized he had barely looked at her since he interrupted her conversation with Adam.
"We were talking."
"Why? Why were you talking to him about the Yule Ball? Are you going with him?" Cedric asked accusingly.
"No! I literally just met the guy yesterday. I told Ron about it and he asked if I could get him an autograph. So I thought I'd ask."
"So you were just doing something nice for Ron?" Cedric finally looked at her, disbelief in his eyes.
"No. He was going to get me some information on Percy that I could use to sneak out of the common rooms with Fred and George after curfew. It seemed like a easy enough transaction until Adam... asked me to the Yule Ball."
"You shouldn't be hanging around Adam Good. He has a-"
"Reputation." Alex cut in. "I know. Ron told me."
"And yet he asked you to get an autograph for him?" Cedric looked at her in disbelief.
"Yes."
"Were you going to accept his invitation to the Yule Ball?"
"Of course not! I told you, I literally met the guy yesterday and..." Alex trailed off. And she was hoping to skip the dance to avoid the stares from the other students when she and Cedric didn't come to the ball together.
"And?" Cedric asked her hesitantly.
"And nothing. I wasn't going to accept. Even if I wanted to, which for the record I didn't, I'm not really sure I could since we left things rather unclear last time we spoke." Alex looked at Cedric.
"We did." Cedric pursed his lips. "Everyone already assumes we are going to the ball together... since we are..." He paused, a torn look on his face. "When I saw you with Good... I wasn't sure if you would say yes to him."
"I wasn't."
Cedric nodded, clasping his hands together. "The champions need to make their entrance to the ball with their dates, followed by a dance. I'll be wearing a black suit and black robes. White collared shirt. You can go with your friends after the dance." He looked down at his hands awkwardly.
"Sure... that works."
Cedric looked at her again and nodded. "Alright then. I will leave you to it. I need to get to the owlry."
Alex watched as he turned and walked off in the opposite direction that they came in. She hoped he would look back and decide to really talk to Alex. When her view of him disappeared, she signed in defeat before turning to head towards her next class.
~~~~~
"You were almost late." Hermione commented as the two made their way out of Charms together. Ron and Harry were walking a few yards ahead of them.
"I got preoccupied..."
"With Adam Good? Ron and I followed Harry to class so we didn't see if you were able to ask him for a favor or not. Did you?" Hermione looked at her curiously.
Alex frowned. "No, I didn't. But I'll try again later."
"You know, I heard-"
"He has a reputation. I'm aware and I'm sick of people telling me." Alex snapped.
Hermione's eyes widened momentarily before she nodded at Alex, averting her gaze ahead of her. "Sorry."
"I'm going for a walk." Alex said before turning in a different direction.
"But Alex, we have Potions!"
"I'm sure Snape will give me some sort of make up detention." Alex waved dismissively over her shoulder.
Another new chapter :)
