~Everything's Not What It Seems~

Alex and Justin are siblings sent to Hogwarts to learn about magic just like their father. There they meet new friends, fall in love, and find out that truly everything is not what it seems.

"Alex, where have you been?" Justin asked his sister as she and Cedric approached the Gryffindor table before dinner. Their friends all looked up at the approaching couple.

"Making out with my boyfriend in some far corner of the school, duh." Alex rolled her eyes at her brother before turning to an embarrassed Cedric. "I'll see you later?"

"Of course, love." Cedric leaned in for a quick peck on the lips before making his way over to the Hufflepuff table.

Alex took a seat beside Justin, ignoring the odd stares from her friends. "What?" She asked as she looked around her.

"You know, Alex." Ron started. "Now that we are headed to the last challenge, I think it's time you pick a side."

"What do you mean?" Alex asked, narrowing her eyes at him.

"There can only be one winner."

"Obviously." She rolled her eyes. "If you're asking me to pick one competitor to support, that's easy! Cedric, duh."

"You're so positive that Cedric is going to win?"

"Hmm, let's see... he did amazing on the first challenge, barely a scratch on him. Got first place on the second challenge. Oh yeah, and he's literally the smartest guy in his class. No competition."

"She's got a point." Fred added. "I'm putting my bets on Diggory too. He saved our best friend from the mermaids."

"Harry and Justin saved your brother and sister!" Hermione said in disbelief.

"Exactly." George agreed. "Just another reason to root for Diggory."

"So when Cedric wins, does he get some sort of prize money from all this?" Alex asked as she looked around at her friends.

"Seriously, Alex?" Justin shook his head in disappointment.

"It's just a question. I mean, you'd think they'd give you money for putting your like at risk. Do we get anything for them putting our lives at risk? I don't recall volunteering to be in the second challenge. Or the Yule Ball for that matter..."

"No, Alex. Just, no."

"This whole thing sucks." Alex said, folding her arms over her chest.

"Alex, didn't you cost us ten point points for snogging Diggory at the Yule Ball?" Ron asked, looking at Alex.

"Didn't your date ditch you for a dude from Durmstrang?" Alex asked with a satisfied grin.

"Touché." Ron responded with a frown.

"Where did you two actually disappear off to after the challenge?" Hermione asked Alex, changing the subject from the topic of the Yule Ball.

"What? I'm not lying! He and I had a lot of catching up to do... so we made out in some corner of Hogwarts. I wasn't trying to get caught by Professor Snape or Dumbledore." She rolled her eyes before turning to the twins. "And before you ask, I'm not telling you where. I need one place that no one can find us."

"For two hours?" Justin frowned.

"Yeah... what part of catching up do you not understand? We were talking about where we would live after we got married." Alex said with a dreamy look on her face.

"Married? Have you gone completely mental? You're only a fourth year!" Ron exclaimed in disbelief.

"It's not like we plan to get married tomorrow. Obviously we'd have to still be together by the time we both graduate from Hogwarts. Though I wouldn't mind it if he asked me to marry him while we were at Hogwarts. Like my parents." She said proudly.

"I thought your mum was a muggle?" Fred narrowed his eyes at Alex.

"Oh- um yeah. But my dad proposed to my mom while she was still in school." She laughed nervously as Justin shot her a disapproving look. With all the tension between Alex and Justin that year, she still hadn't managed to convince him to let her tell Fred and George about their dad. She needed to make time to talk to him about this later.

"By the way Alex, you need to join us for the next trip to Hogsmeade. You always skip out or go with Cedric." Justin said casually as he noticed the twins turn away to talk to Sheamus.

Alex rolled her eyes. "He already asked me to come with him on a date but I told him it's too cold and I'd rather take a nap. He's going with his quidditch team."

"I think you should come with us this time, Alex." Harry said, speaking up for the first time. "I think you'll want to come." He narrowed his eyes at her. "Preferably with snacks."

"Why are you guys being weird?" She said, looking between her brother and the trio curiously.

Justin glanced around them before leaning closer to her. "Dad sent a message to Harry and I. He wants to meet us on the outskirts of town."

"Oh, sweet! Then I'm in." She said excitedly. The others nodded as they started to load their plates with food and go into their own conversations. Alex leaned towards her brother. "How mean would it be if I asked Cedric to meet us after? So I can introduce him to dad really quick."

"You're serious?" Justin pulled back and looked at his sister questioningly. "Wait, when did you tell Cedric?"

"Over the summer. And yes, I'm serious. I wouldn't tell either of them about it beforehand, but I want Cedric to meet our dad. I love him."

"You sure about not telling them about it?"

"Absolutely. I don't want to give either of them the chance to bail. Dad is still in denial about me having a boyfriend." She rolled her eyes.

"If that's what you want to do..."

"It is." She smiled before turning back to their friends. "I'm sure of it."

"How much longer are we walking?" Alex complained as they continued to trudge through the snow after her father's animigus form.

It had been three weeks since the second triwizard challenge and the day to meet their father had finally arrived. Alex was exhausted from their day at Hogsmeade, with most of it of it spent with her friends, picking out socks for their house elf friend, Dobbie. As they searched through the store, Alex regretted not taking up Cedric's offer to join him and the Hufflepuff quidditch team. When the afternoon finally arrived, they made their way to the outskirts of town, where their father was waiting in his animigus form. With no time for hello's, they followed him further away from town.

"However far it takes to ensure he's safe." Justin replied as he ignored the pain in his arms from carrying the numerous shopping bags. They had made sure to grab plenty of groceries for their dad when they met him, most of which were being carried by him and Harry.

"Well I'm tired." She complained.

"Too bad, Alex."

"If Cedric was here, he'd offer to carry me on his back." She mumbled under her breath.

"Then you should have gone with Cedric." Justin replied, rolling his eyes.

"Maybe I should have."

"Children, is that really the way to behave in front of your father?" The two looked ahead of them, their argument a thing of the past as they spotted Sirius in front of them.

"Dad!" Alex ran to him, launching herself into his arms.

"Hello, my sweet, sweet Alex." He laughed as he wrapped his arms around her and looked at the others. "Come, the cave is right through here." He pointed behind him, before leading Alex in that direction. They followed Sirius into the cave, noticing a light inside as they went further into the cave. They all looked relieved as they found Buckybeak at the end, napping in front of a small bonfire.

"Dad, tell me you haven't been staying here long." Alex looked at her dad with a frown.

"Only a few days." He admitted with a guilty look. "I wanted to be close to you all after the second challenge. I tried convincing Remus to join me, but he refused." He rolled his eyes.

"I don't blame him..." Alex said honestly as she looked around the cave. "I'm hoping you're planning to go back after this?"

"We'll see." He replied, a sullen look on his face.

"Dad, this place looks terrible! Why don't you go back home? Where you have a roof over your head! And a bed!"

Sirius gave his daughter a sympathetic smile. "I understand your concern my dear, but rest assured I would not stay here if I couldn't handle it. After being imprisoned in Azkaban for several years, living in a cave is barely a discomfort."

"But dad-"

"Why don't we talk about the reason we came here." Harry offered, interrupting Alex.

Sirius shot him an appreciatively look. "Yes, yes. We don't want to waste too much time on this."

"What did you want to talk about, dad?"

"Ah yes! Sit, sit. We have a lot to discuss." Sirius motioned them all to take a seat around the fire. As the other seated themselves, Alex seated herself beside Buckbeak. "How much do you know about Barry Crouch Senior?"

~~~~~~~~
"That was boring." Alex complained as they trudged through the snow, making their way back to Hogsmeade.
"We weren't meeting for pleasantries, Alex!" Hermione scolded her. Alex pouted as she slowed her pace to match her father's animigus form.
"I love you dad, but I'm not coming next time if we're just going to talk about boring evil Wizard stuff." She whispered. She slowed down a bit more, creating more distance with the others. "I know Justin will blow a gasket for me asking this, but do you mind transforming back to yourself for a bit? I want to see my actual dad when I say goodbye." Sirius barked beside her, causing the others to stop and turn in alarm. "I'll assume that's a yes." She laughed.
"Is everything okay back there?"
"Yes! Just having a dad-and-daughter moment. Move along!" She dismissed Justin, who rolled his eyes and continued on with the trio.
"So annoying." She said to herself before turning back to her dad. She smiled as she spotted him no longer in his animagus form.
"How'd you do that so fast? And get dressed?" Alex asked, looking at her dad in awe.
"You pick up a few tricks over time." Sirius winked as he approached his daughter and wrapped an arm around her shoulders as they walked. "So, tell me the real reason you wanted to see me off."
"There is no-"
"Alex." Sirius cut her off, shooting her a disapproving look.
"Fine." She looked up at her dad. "I wanted you to meet someone. My-"
"Alex!" She turned her eyes away from Sirius, searching the forest for her person calling her name. "Alex, where are you?"
"Who is that?" Sirius asked, gently tightening his hold around Alex as he looked around protectively.
Justin and their friends quickly moved back towards them. "Dad, maybe you should go-"
"No! It's okay!" Alex said quickly. "It's just Cedric. I told him to find me. Remember, I wanted to introduce him to dad. Cedric, I'm over here!" She yelled out.
"Alex, what if he isn't alone? Or what if he tells someone?" Hermione asked, looking at her in panic.
"He won't, trust me. He loves me too much to do something like that."
"Hold on one minute." Sirius looked down at his daughter in surprise. "Cedric, he's the boyfriend that Remus had mentioned to me?"
Alex shot him an apologetic smile. "Yes. I knew if I told you he was coming you would say no! And vice versa!"
"Cedric doesn't know you're about to introduce him to your dad? Blimey Alex, could've given the poor chap an opportunity to escape!" Ron said, earning him a smack in the arm by Hermione.
"Alex!?" They heard again, the voice closer.
"Over here!" She yelled out again. She turned to her dad with a pleading look. "Please be nice. He is really important to me."
Sirius rolled his eyes. "You speak as if I'm going to bite the boy."
"Alex." They all turned as Cedric's voice came behind them. A smile appeared on Alex's face as their eyes met. She freed herself from her dad's arms before making her way over to him.
"You made it!" She came up beside him and looped her arm through his.
"I was worried you were lost." He replied as he looked down at her with a smile. "Glad to see you are well."
"Sorry, we lost track of time." She replied apologetically before pulling him towards the others. "Cedric, I want you to meet-"
"Her father." Her dad cut her off as he stepped towards them. Cedric looked at him in surprise as the pair stopped in front of the group. "Sirius Black." He continued as he extended his hand towards Cedric.
Cedric continued to stare at her dad, making no effort to take his hand. Alex discretely nudged him, causing him to snap out of his momentary shock. He quickly removed his arm from hers and extended his hand to shake her dad's. "Cedric Diggory, sir. It's a pleasure to be in your acquaintance."
"The pleasure is all mine. Alex talks about you all the time apparently..." He looked to Alex with disapproval. "To her godfather."
Alex rolled her eyes. "Lupin used to be his teacher. He likes that I'm dating, in his words, 'a fine young man'. He's also not my overprotective dad."
"But he is still your overprotective godfather." Sirius narrowed his eyes on Cedric. "And he's a werewolf."
"Right..." Cedric replied uncomfortable. "I actually did quite well in Professor Lupin's class. He and I would discuss more advanced defensive skill."
"And why exactly would you need to learn about more advanced defensive skills?" Sirius raised an accusatory eyebrow at him.
"Dad!" Alex glared at him.
"It's okay Alex. I mean... why do any of us want to learn defensive skill? To protect ourselves and the people we care about, right?" Cedric replied. He glanced in Alex's direction momentarily to give her a smile before turning back to Sirius. "In the last three years alone Hogwarts has had a teacher who carried he who shall not be named. A student who was controlled by a possessed diary as a serpent roamed the school and petrified students. A prisoner who had escaped Azkaban and had entered the school, not to mention dementors. And an underage wizards who was curiously entered into a very dangerous tournament. I would think anyone would be as overcautious as I?"
Sirius stared at Cedric silently, studying him as the others looked on in concern. Alex wasn't sure if she was happy for Cedric's boldness and wanted to kiss him for it, or if she would need to yell at him the next time they were alone. She glanced at her brother, who only seemed to shrug in doubt. He's no help. Finally Sirius broke the tension as a smile appeared on his have and he let a laugh escape from his lip. He stepped towards Cedric and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "I see why Alex is so fond of you, and why Remus praises you. You are good company."
Cedric visibly relaxed in relief. "Thank you, sir. Your daughter means a lot to me, so your approval is very important to the both of us."
"Just keep my daughter happy and we'll have no concerns." Sirius looked at Alex with an adoration. "She means the world the me."
"Of course, sir." Cedric nodded before looking at Alex. "I want to give her every joy in the world."
"Uh... while this has been great..." Justin cut in awkwardly. "It's getting late and we should be heading back to Hogwarts."
"Right. You all should be getting along back to the castle before Professor McGonagall comes looking for you. Good luck to you three on the final challenge." Sirius nodded towards Harry, Justin and Cedric before turning back to his daughter and taking her hands in his. "Remember what we talked about, my dear daughter."
"Sure, dad." Alex rolled her eyes. "I love you."
"As I you." Sirius replied as he gave her hands a gently squeeze before releasing them.
Alex smiled back at her dad before looping her arm through Cedric's. "See you soon dad!" She turned and started pulling Cedric away.
"Goodbye sir, it was nice meeting you!" Cedric called out before they disappeared into the forest, leaving the others to say their goodbyes. Cedric looked down at Alex with a raised eyebrow as they made their way back to Hogsmeade. "That was very naughty."
"I knew neither of you would agree to it otherwise." She shrugged.
"I quite think you owe me for that." Cedric replied with a frown. "I would have agreed if you had given me time to prepare for the first meeting with your father."
"You did great." She rolled her eyes.
"Even so..." He trailed off as he looked at Alex with disapproval.
"How about... we sneak off to the greenhouses before dinner?" She suggested with a mischievous grin.
"I think that would definitely be a start..."
"Oh really?" She laughed. "Just a start?"
"Hmmm, I'll think about it."
Updated! This one took me forever... not sure why.
