"Do I really have to go to this thing?" Alex complained as she gave the potion in her cauldron another stir. Snape had caught Alex attempting to slip one of Fred and George's mysterious concoctions into Filch's morning tea. She was awarded with a detention spent brewing potions that were in need of restock.
"Yes." Snape replied curtly, his eyes glued to a potions book in his hand.
"But why?" She complained again.
Snape looked up from his book, his eyes staring at her in irritation. "You brother, your best friend, and your boyfriend are all competing. I would think you'd want to attend for moral support."
"I just want this stupid thing to be over so things could go back to normal..." She huffed as she returned her focus to the cauldron in front of her. "You sure you don't want me to brew this for you next week instead?"
"No. You and I will both be in the stands watching the final task of the Triwizard Tournament in one weeks time. The Headmaster has asked me to watch you... yet again."
"I'm not at fault for that. Not sure why he keeps asking you to babysit me." She shrugged.
"Your hijinks today would tell me otherwise... though I have my suspicions that you wanted to be caught in the act." He drawled as he looked at Alex in boredom.
"You know me too well Professor Snape." She rolled her eyes. "Since you caught me, does that mean you'll help me? Maybe give a week of detention?" She looked at her professor with a hopeful smile.
Snape snapped his book shut and dropped it on his desk. "Absolutely not. You will be in attendance of this event under my watchful eye."
"Lame." She looked down dejectedly.
"Get back to brewing."

"You alright, Alex?" Alex looked up from the book in her lap to find George staring at her in concern. She and the twins had found a spot in the courtyard to do some last minute cramming before their exams tomorrow. Sometime between reading her potions textbook, she must have spaced out.
"I'm fine... why do you ask?"
"You have been staring at the same page for the last fifteen minutes..." He replied, looking pointedly at her.
Fred looked up at this, glancing between the two in concern. "How did-"
"Hey Fred-" George said quickly, cutting him off. "I think I see Lee and Angelina. Didn't you have a question for them?"
"I did, but-"
"Better catch 'em before they go?" He said, interrupting his twin again.
Fred looked at his brother in doubt but nodded. "Fine. I'll be back." He stood up, dropping his book on the floor before walking off.
Alex turned to George in confusion. "Uh... what was that about?"
"Just Fred, being Fred. Now tell me what's the matter? You've been acting rather odd this week."
"It's nothing..."
"Come on Alex, I know you better than that. I'm your best friend. Tell me what's been bothering you." George looked at her expectantly.
Alex sighed, as she stared back at her best friend. "I hate you, you know that, right?" George cracked a smile but continued to look at her expectantly. "Fine!" Alex threw her hands up in defeat. "I've just had this bad feeling as of late that I can't shake. Like... like something bad is going to happen. I'm just not sure when or what."
"Is this about the final task?"
"I don't know." Alex shrugged as she tried to hold back the tears that started pooling her eyes. This was exactly why she wanted to avoid the topic. "I hope not. If something were to happen to any of them-" She stopped as her voice cracked and she felt a tear escape down her cheek.
George quickly scanned the area around them before taking Alex by the arm and pulling her up with him. He led her down the corridor and only stopped once they were alone in the greenhouses. As he released her arm, he pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket, which he handed to her.
"Thanks." She said as she took the handkerchief and dabbed it at her eyes.
"Don't mention it." He nodded.
"I mean it. This is so embarrassing... I'm sure at least a few people noticed me leaving like that."
"If they say anything, I'll slip some of our experimental U-Know-Poo into their breakfast." George shot her a smile, in an attempt to cheer her up.
Alex laughed at this. "I still can't believe you named that thing, let alone name any of your products."
"It's the future!" He smirked. "Don't change the subject. Now that there are no witnesses to your breakdown, let's revisit your concerns?"
Alex sighed. "What else is there to say, really? I don't know why I have this bad feeling, I just do. And what am I supposed to do? Tell Cedric and Justin about how I have a random bad feeling? Everyone is still reeling over the death of that Crouch dude. How do you think people are going to react?!" Alex almost yelled the last part. "Sorry."
George shrugged. "I get it. But you can't actually think that Diggory and your brother haven't noticed your odd behavior."
"They've been preoccupied enough..."
"Alex." George looked at her in disbelief. "Neville tripped and fell on his face right in front of you during dinner last night, and you didn't even notice!"
"Wait, what? Dang! I missed that?"
"Yes." George laughed. "Everyone else was too distracted by Longbottom, but I saw Diggory staring at you from the Hufflepuff table. And... Justin might have asked Diggory about you this morning."
Alex's jaw dropped. "Why is my brother asking my boyfriend about me? And how do you know about this?"
"I may have seen them congregating in the corridor before I came to find you and Fred. I didn't think anything of it until I heard your name in passing. Then I decided I just had to listen in." He smirked.
"Of course you did." She rolled her eyes. "I'll talk to Cedric later and sort it out. I don't need him worrying about me two days before the third task. And I'm sure Justin will catch me in the common room sometime before the challenge." She sighed. "I need their focus to be entirely on the tournament now, not me. I also don't want him dragging my dad and Lupin into my worries."
When George didn't say anything, she look up at her friend. He was staring at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What?"
"You never did explain how you became so chummy with our former Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. And why you always refer to him when you speak of your dad. Do they know each other or something? Is that why you were getting such good marks last year?"
"No... but I did need to talk to you about that..." Alex started. She still hadn't gotten Justin a hundred percent on board with telling the twins about their dad. But she knew that she couldn't hide it from them forever. It was getting hard to explain why she knew all these secret places and fact about Hogwarts. Or why she was always talking to Lupin.
"Alex..."
"You know how I mentioned that I grew up in New York with my mom, my dad, and brothers. There was a bit of a lie to that statement..."
"What lie?" George asked in confusion.
"Well... I did grow up in New York with them, but Max isn't really my brother and the couple I refer to as my mom and dad... they aren't really my parents."
"You're making absolutely no sense, Alex."
She released a frustrated breath. "Look, you have to promise this stays between us. You can tell Fred, but neither of you can tell a soul."
"O-Kay?"
"I'm not actually an American Wizard from the muggle world. My parents are... Sirius Black and the late Ariana... Dumbledore."
George stared at her for a moment in confusion before bursting into a fit of loud, amused laughter. Alex expression dropped to a frustrated one, a frown dawning her lips as she watched her friend's reaction. Why was it so hard to believe she was related to a Dumbledore?
"Why are you laughing?" She demanded as she watched her friend double over in laughter.
"Sirius-" He said between his laughter. "Black-" He continued. "Dumbledore."
"I'm being serious, George. And Professor Lupin is my godfather, which is why he and I got so close. You can ask Justin, Harry, or Cedric. Heck you can even ask your younger brother and sister! Ron and Ginny know."
As George's laughter died down, he looked at Alex suspiciously. "Hold on, you mean this isn't a joke?"
"No... and I'm not even supposed to be telling you but you're my best friend and it's been driving me nuts to hide it from you and Fred."
George let out a whistle. "Not sure what should be surprising me more, that you are both a Black and Dumbledore, or that you told Diggory before me and Fred."
"Are you mad?"
"No, not really. It's your secret to keep. Not to mention everyone is looking for your father. Just surprised that you already told Diggory. Must be serious."
"You know it is... that's why... I'm scared that something bad is going to happen in this competition and I'll lose him. Like, what if he decides that I'm not good enough or something now that he's a champion. Or what if Justin or Harry win and he resents me for it. Or what if he gets hurt because-"
"Alex." George cut her off. "Slow down and breathe. Nothing is going to happen to Diggory or your brother. He'll win, get all the glory and we'll eventually forget this competition even happened."
"I know that's what everyone keeps saying... but I don't know. I just... something feels off." Alex bit her lip. This feeling had been invading her mind for weeks, she couldn't just ignore it. Something was going to happen, she just didn't know when or what.
"Come on Alex, this isn't like you. You've become a completely different person ever since this tournament." George came up to her and put his hands on both her shoulders, looking down at her in seriousness. "Snap out of it, woman! You're just nervous for the final task, that's all. You just need to talk to them and get some reassurance and you'll be as good as new."
Alex released a defeated sigh. "I know you're right... but I don't think it's that easy. But if it'll help, I'll talk to them both before the competition."
"I'm sure they'll appreciate it too." He said as he dropped his hands. He motioned towards the door before the two started to make their way towards the exit.
"You're really good at this, you know?" Alex said, looking at her friend with a smile.
"Good at what?"
"Being an amazing best friend." She replied, bumping her shoulder against his arm.
George looked down at her in amusement. "If you mention any of this to Fred or anyone for that matter, I'll be slipping one of our latest experiment into your pumpkin juice."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." She rolled her eyes.
"So... Dumbledore, huh?" He looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeap." Alex smirked.
"Wicked."
~~~~~~~~~~~
"There you are, Alex!" Alex heard Cedric as she was making her way up the stairway. She turned and smiled as their eyes met and he jogged up to her. As soon as they were in front of each other, Cedric wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her in for a kiss. Alex melted into the kiss, leaving Cedric to hold her up in their embrace. After a few moments, he pulled away gently, resting his forehead on hers as she placed her hands on his chest.
"Hey."
"Hello." He smiled. "Have you been hiding from me again?"
"I wouldn't dream of it." She laughed. "I was studying in the courtyard with the twins."
"Really?" Cedric pulled back slightly. "I came by, but I only saw Fred with Lee and Angelina."
"Oh, that must have been while George and I took a break to chat. We were in the greenhouse."
"Are you showing people our spot." Cedric asked, feigning hurt. "And what were you two chatting about, if I may ask?"
"Well, I finally told George about my parents."
"Really?" Cedric asked in surprised. "I thought Justin told you that you can't tell them about your mum and dad?"
"Justin can bite me." She said, rolling her eyes. "Fred and George are my best friends. I hate lying to them."
"That's fair." He nodded.
"Alex!"
The two pulled apart slightly, Cedric keeping an arm around Alex as the pair turned and spotted an approaching Justin. Cedric looked down at Alex in amusement. "You're popular today."
"Unfortunately." She pouted as Justin stopped in front of them.
"Alex, where have you been? We've been looking for you all morning."
"She was with the Fred and George." Cedric replied for her.
"Great!" He threw his hands up in the air. "What scheme did you guys come up with this time?"
"Nothing! Jeez, Justin. We were just studying in the courtyard. If anything, George convinced me to talk to you both."
"Talk to us about what?" Justin and Cedric asked simultaneously. The two glanced at each other briefly before turning their attention back to Alex.
Alex released a deep breath and looked between the two. "You know it's hard for me to express my feelings, but... I wanted to tell you both how I feel. The impending third task has been really stressing me out. I've had this... really bad feeling for days, and I can't shake it. I'm worried I'm going to lose one of you or both of you."
"Awwww, Alex. You really do have a heart." Justin put a hand over his chest in mock disbelief, earning him a punch in the shoulder by his sister. "Ow!"
"I'm being serious!" She said, shooting him an irritated look.
"You have nothing to worry about, love." Cedric cut in as he squeezed Alex to his side. "Justin and I may be competing against each other, but that doesn't mean we won't look out for one another. You have nothing to concern yourself."
Alex looked up at Cedric with a bitter smile. "My whole heart is out there with his life on the line, of course I'm concerned." She looked over at her brother and rolled her eyes. "Oh, yeah... and my brother."
"Thanks, Alex." Justin replied sarcastically.
Cedric put a hand to her cheek and gave her a sympathetic smile. "You have my word that your brother will be back safely."
"And you have my word that Cedric will come back in one piece as well." Justin offered, beside the couple.
"Okay." Alex sighed before looking up at Cedric. "But after this, no more Wizard tournaments! The only excitement in your future will be as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic!"
"Alex, that's even more-"
"Promise!" Cedric said quickly, cutting Justin off and shooting him a disapproving look. He turned back to Alex with a smile. "Now that that's sorted, join me for dinner tonight at the Hufflepuff table? It'll be the last dinner we'll have together before your final examinations. Justin and I will be in the library tomorrow and likely won't be attending dinner with everyone."
"I'd love to." Alex replied with a smile
"Would you like to join us, Justin?" Cedric asked, looking over at her brother.
"No, actually I was going to have dinner with Ginny."
"Alright, enjoy." He nodded towards Justin before turning back to Alex. "Let us go?"
Alex nodded. "Later Justin!" She called out behind her as she let Cedric lead her away.
"So, tell me about how it went when you told George about your parents." Cedric said as they turned a corner.
"Why is it so unbelievable that I'm technically a Dumbledore?"
Cedric laughed. "Hmm, I could think of a few reasons..."
