Hey guys, it's time for another chapter! Sorry for taking so long with this, I had a couple of midterms to do. I survived them so now I can get back to working on this. I'm also almost done with my Legend of Zelda story, so I'll have more time to focus on this and the other story I'm paying attention to. Please review or comment on the story and tell me what you think of it so far. QUESTION: would y'all prefer me to switch the POV every chapter from Luna to Cal instead of just Luna? It might be more interesting that way. Anyway, here's the chapter!

Ch. 5: A Carefree Day

(Luna's POV)

I slowly opened my eyes after sleeping so peacefully. I haven't slept this good in a long time. I let out a small, almost muted groan and my vision recovered from the deep darkness it had been in for who knows how long. It's kind of hard to tell time when you're on a spaceship traveling through hyperspace.

"Hmm..."

I blinked a few times and saw Cal's face in front of mine. His eyes were closed, and he looked like he was getting a good sleep like I just had. His breathing was slowed so his chest raised and then went back down every few seconds. Some strands of his red hair had fallen over his face, which made me smile.

If he was awake, he would brush his hand through his hair like I had seen him do a few times on Hosnian Prime and Bogano. I don't think he realizes it, but whenever he does that, it's quite majestic.

I decided to stare at him for a bit. The freckles on his face look perfect on him. He also has really good skin, I've noticed...Not that I've been thinking about his skin or anything. I'm just saying...I'm a little surprised that he said he never had a girlfriend back on Bracca. Cal's a good-looking guy so I have to assume the girls on Bracca have shitty taste. He has a great personality too! He should've had me as his wingman or something...or wingwoman if we're being technical.

I stopped staring at Cal's face out of fear of being creepy and sat up with another groan. My body did not want to get out of this bed. It's like it was stuck to the bedsheets. My muscles felt heavier than any weight I've encountered at the gym. So, I just sat there...

"Good thing we don't have anything to do today," I muttered quietly to myself. I heard some groaning beside me and turned to see Cal opening his eyes. I mentally kicked myself for possibly being the reason he woke up. Why do I think things out loud!?

"Good morning," I said to him. He looked at me and began rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

"Oh, m-morning. Sorry, I'm so out of it whenever I first wake up."

"That's okay, I didn't wake you up, did I?" I asked worryingly. He slowly, and I mean slowly, sat up next to me and said he didn't hear my voice or anything when he woke up.

"Nah, did you say something? I think it was just a coincidence."

"Okay, good. That sleep was amazing! I'm convinced that your bed has magic powers or something," I said, patting the comforter. He chuckled in response.

"If it does, they just showed up last night. That's the best sleep I've had while I've been here. The other nights have been meh..."

I smiled and shrugged.

"It's a mystery!"

Knock! Knock!

Cal's face dropped at the loud knock on the door. That had to be Greez.

"That's funny, when he woke me up yesterday, he knocked on my door super quietly. But with yours he bangs the crap out of it."

"That's because he likes you better than me," He murmured in irritation. I giggled and hopped out of bed since Cal appeared hopeless at the moment. He was still half-asleep. I opened the door just as Greez was about to bang on it again and he looked surprised to see me.

"L-Luna? What are you doing in..."

He then gasped and all four of his hands went to his mouth. I raised my eyebrow at him and crossed my arms.

"We didn't do anything if that's what you're thinking. We both just ended up sleeping in his room after staying up last night. No big deal."

He dropped his arms and shook his head.

"I was about to say! That was fast! But if nothing happened then it doesn't matter, does it?"

I just stood there; my face reddened.

"Greez, did you need something?" Cal asked from behind me.

"I made you two breakfast! Now come on, it's gonna get cold!"

He walked towards the kitchen and I gently closed the door.

"Welp..." I laughed. Cal smiled and stretched his arms out before getting out of bed. He walked over to the desk where BD-1 was and tapped the top of his head.

"Okay, BD-1, time to get up."

The droid lifted his head and calibrated his eyes to begin fully functioning again. I've always thought it was cute that droids did that. They're kind of like humans.

"Good morning, BD-1."

BD, at the sound of my voice, jumped up and said "good morning" back in a pattern of beeps and boops. I rubbed his head while Cal was in the bathroom looking at himself in the mirror.

"Ugh, sorry about me looking like this. My hair's all messed up, got sand in my eyes, and drool on my chin..."

He sounded horrified. There's no possible way that I looked any better.

"Cal, I don't care about any of that stuff. I look the same as you," I laughed. He glanced at me from the bathroom and smiled.

"Nah, you look much better than me right now! Damn...Usually I can just brush my hand through my hair to fix it but it's being stubborn," He said. I walked over to him as he tried to style his hair to the way it usually looks. I grinned and put my hands up.

"Is it okay if I try something? I want to see what your hair looks like over your forehead."

His eyes widened in horror, but he let me do whatever I wanted anyway.

"Okay, but I must warn you, it's not good."

"Hmm, we'll see."

I brushed his hair so that he had bangs. His deep red hair was soft to the touch, like mine. His hair was long, so it went over his eyes. I tilted my head and brushed it to the side some, and you know, it didn't look half bad!

"You talk bad about yourself too much. It looks good! But..."

I brushed his hair back the way he likes it and smiled.

"...The way you usually have it looks great."

He chuckled and looked down at the ground out of shyness.

"Thanks."

"Mhmm, you can style my hair later if you want. It's so long that you can practically put it in any hairstyle you want, which is nice."

He walked out of the bathroom and nodded.

"Yeah, that sounds fun! What do you think Greez made us for breakfast?"

"Whatever it is, I'll know it'll be good!" I exclaimed. Cal and I walked out of his room and headed to the kitchen with BD-1 close behind us. Greez had a plate for each of us placed on the table. On the plate was some good ol' fashioned eggs and bacon.

"Thanks, Greez! Looks amazing!" I said to him, sitting down at the table.

"Decided to go traditional today?" Cal asked, sitting next to me.

Greez clicked his tongue and shook the pan in his hand. The pan made a sizzling sound and steam emitted from it.

"It's easy to make and it's cheap!"

I wasn't complaining. I like my eggs scrambled but fried eggs are cool too. I finished my breakfast in under a minute's time and when I got done, I noticed that Cal was staring at me wide-eyed.

"W-What?" I asked, with a small laugh.

"Were you hungry?" He laughed. I snorted in amusement and dabbed my mouth with a napkin.

"I've always been a fast eater. I'm also not the cleanest eater either so if we have something messy like sloppy joe or spaghetti then I might have to eat in another room or something, so you don't have to see any of that. It's not pretty."

He laughed again and began eating his breakfast.

"I wouldn't make you do that. I kind of want to see what you're talking about!"

"Okay, but you'll be sorry once the time comes!" I stood up and washed my plate. There was no way I was going to make Greez do it.

"You all seem cheerful today."

Cere walked into the kitchen from the hallway and sat down at the table. I wish BD-1 could eat breakfast like everyone else but he doesn't really need food to survive. Maybe oil? You'd have to ask Cal about that sort of thing.

"Morning, Cere," Cal said to her. I repeated what he said, and she nodded towards me.

"It's going to be an easy day since we're still on our way to Zeffo. I'll be listening to Imperial communications in case there are still Jedi like you out there. If there are, we might need a bigger ship..."

"Bigger ship? Bah! I would never get rid of my baby!" Greez yelled in exaggeration.

"I'm aware. You talk about it non-stop."

"Because I love her!"

"Mhmm..." Cere hummed, giving him a look, "If we found another Jedi then we'd have to start sharing rooms."

I put my plate in the plate rack to dry and sat back down at the table.

"Well, that wouldn't be too bad. Cal and I slept in his room last night so I don't think it would be too big of a deal," I said. Cere picked up her coffee and glanced at me and then Cal.

"Slept in the same room, huh?"

She took a sip of the coffee with her eyebrows raised. Cal sighed and leaned back in his chair.

"We already went over this with Greez. We ended up talking all night and just crashed in my room."

"I know, I know. What did you talk about?" she asked.

"Just random stuff," I answered, "I also wanted to talk to you about something before you started listening to communications."

"Okay, I'm listening. Know that you can talk to me about anything, Luna."

I smiled and tried to think of the right things to say.

"Thank you...Yesterday, on Bogano...I felt something I've never felt before. Cal can sense force echoes and he found one along the wall. When he touched it, he got a flashback to when he was learning how to wall run with his master. I touched his arm when this happened to see if he was okay, and I immediately got the same flashback with my own master! I was just wondering if this was something unusual or unique to Jedi," I explained. She thought hard about it and shook her head.

"I'm not exactly sure what that would be. However, it sounds like something that's unique to you, Luna. Being able to feel other people's memories is a powerful thing. It could just be because you both went through something very similar. If you're able to see someone's memory without having experienced something like it yourself, go ahead and let me know. It's interesting that you might be able to see the history of things in the present while Cal can see the history of things long in the past."

When she puts it that way, I grew extremely happy. Maybe I'm not so useless after all.

"...Thank you for telling me," she said.

"You're welcome. Thank you for listening," I replied. She gave us a nod and then motioned her head to the cockpit and rolled her eyes.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to listen to those Imperial idiots for a few hours."

"Sounds fun!" Cal laughed.

"Yeah."

She stood up and walked to the cockpit, putting on a headset once she got there. Greez joined her shortly after and basked in the glory of being the pilot of the ship...even though it was in autopilot for hyperspace...Oh well, to each their own! Cal turned to me and grinned.

"After what she told us, maybe we were always meant to meet each other. It's almost like two puzzle pieces fitting together with our similar echo senses. Once I thought about it, that's awesome."

My cheeks reddened with happiness because I was thinking the same thing.

"I know, the whole history of life and death idea sounded really cool! I guess that means I'll have to start conditioning you as my best friend, Cal."

"What!? I thought I was your best friend!" He yelled.

"Umm...Well, let's see. I had no real friends when I joined the team and then you became my first friend but that doesn't necessarily mean you're my best friend. Also, you better watch your back. Greez is like right there when it comes to my affection," I said, holding my index finger and thumb close together. Cal's face was priceless.

"Oh, come on! Greez!?"

"I'm kidding! I'm kidding! Yes, you're my best friend," I giggled.

"Good..." He muttered, like a child.

"You don't get jealous easily, do you, Cal?"

"I don't think so," he replied honestly.

He's not a good liar.

"Mhmm, so what do you want to do now?" I asked him.

(Cal's POV)

I thought about the next thing we could do to pass the time. The first idea that popped inside my head was one I knew she would love.

"How about we try on different ponchos!"

"No," she replied with a serious look, but I knew she was trying hard not to smile. It was worth a shot...I tried thinking of something else and another idea appeared.

"Oh! Hey, you said you wanted me to play with your hair, right?"

Her emerald-colored eyes brightened up like a lightsaber and she sat down on the couch where the holotable was located.

"Yeah! That sounds fun! I want to see what you can style it as and if it looks good!"

"Uhh...I'll try my best," I told her. I used to be a rigger, not a hair stylist so this could either be something that turns out great or something that turns into a disaster. I guess we'll see! I sat down beside her, and she turned her back towards me to give me complete access to her hair. At first glance, her hair was long. It went halfway down her back. It wasn't exactly platinum blonde, but it was pretty damn close to me. Also, I could be imagining it, but her hair gave off the scent of a flower when you smell the inside of it.

"Do you use a special shampoo?" I asked, taking her hair in my fingers and twirling it into a braid.

"Yeah, it's this floral shampoo that you can get anywhere. It doesn't smell bad, does it?" she asked in a worried tone.

"No! It smells great! Do you always keep your hair long like this?"

"Pretty much. I know some girls like having short hair because it's lighter and easier to manage but I personally hate having short hair. It's just not my style. Back at the Jedi academy, we weren't allowed to grow our hair past our shoulders. I didn't care back then but if I was the age I am now I'd be pissed," she laughed. I smiled and looked at my shoulder.

"I always hated the little braid all the Padawan wore as a sign of their rank. We all looked like dorks. But at least it's not like someone could bully you for it because they had it too."

"Oh yeah, I remember now. I'm sure we thought they were cool when we were kids, but I personally think that we both have never looked cooler than right now. At least in terms of our hair I mean..."

I grinned and finished the simple braid.

"Agreed. I just did a simple braid because that's kind of all I know how to do."

"Oh, that's fine!" she said. She stood up and looked at the holotable mirror to see how I did. Her reflection popped up and she turned her face left and right to look at both sides.

"Wow, you did horrible!"

"W-What!? I did!?"

"No, I'm kidding, you did amazing!"

"Okay, good," I replied. I thought she was serious for a second.

"Yep! Not a bad braid for a boy" she teased, sitting back on the sofa. I smirked and watched her brush her fingers through her hair so that the braid came undone.

"Want to see my favorite type of braid?"

I nodded and she began doing her own thing.

"My favorite braid is called the waterfall braid. You can do a lot of stuff with it like having it on the front, side, or back of your hair," she explained as her fingers majestically weaved through the blonde strands. She's probably had a lot of practice doing this if she's able to braid her hair by herself so easily.

"Huh. What's your favorite type of waterfall braid then?" I asked.

"I'm making it right now so you can see," she said happily, "I like mine to be just on one side so the braid starts from the front at the bangs and then runs to the back on the side at a slant. And when you're done, it looks super pretty, and you get to keep most of your hair down!"

She finished braiding her hair into the waterfall braid and she was right. It looked beautiful. I had to make sure my mouth wasn't hanging open.

"You know, that might be my favorite too. It looks awesome!" I told her with a grin. She looked at the ground shyly and a big smile appeared on her face.

"Thanks, Cal. I've always loved putting in this style. I enjoyed seeing her happy like this. If she was anything like me, she spent the last five years just trying to get through the day with the pain of the past lingering on her shoulders. There was always this feeling of sadness that stayed with me even though I might've been hanging out with Prauf or something like that. So...to see her like this, smiling and enjoying my company, it makes me feel really happy too.

"You're welcome. You've got really good taste in hair styles."

"Well, you do too! Never have I seen a guy with such fine hair!"

She felt my hair for a second and I swatted her away while laughing.

"You know what we should do now?" she said in excitement.

"What?"

"We should listen to each other's music! You said you had a music player, right?"

Oh, that's right. I remember that one of the things she had brought with her on the ship was her own little music player. I nodded and we walked to my room. Rummaging through my things, I took out my music player and a pair of headphones.

"These babies helped me get through so many boring shifts at work," I joked. She smiled and I handed her both items. She analyzed the headphones and hummed in thought.

"Wow, these are nice. Were they expensive?"

"Yeah, they cost me a week's pay, but they were worth it. Music has really helped me get through some tough times whenever I was feeling down. What's your favorite type of music?" I asked as we walked to her room. She crouched down to her backpack and took out her own music player. It looked similar to mine but was made with a different material due to her being on a different planet.

"I really like classical, pop, and rock. Sometimes I just like to listen to music without any singing. It's soothing to me," she said. I nodded and we sat on her bed.

"Yeah, I do too every once in a while. My favorite music genre is rock. Anything with a lot of guitar solos!"

She gave me an expected look.

"Yeah, you look like the type of guy who would love that kind of thing.

I mean, she wasn't wrong. I smirked and flipped through the playlist of songs I had saved in my music player. I stopped at my favorite one and began playing it.

"Yeah, well, this is my favorite song to listen to. It's called Sugaan Essena. It just has this certain sound to it that I really like."

The song began and we both listened to it. I looked at Luna to see if she liked it or hated it and she seemed to like it judging by the smile on her face. By the end of the song, she nodded and went to the song on her playlist. She added the song to her collection and then looked at me.

"I like that a lot too! Usually, I don't go for loud music like that, but I actually thought that was good!"

You don't even know how happy that made me. Being the only person that likes this song without anybody else liking it sucks! Now I can talk to Luna about it! I don't know Cere's or Greez's taste in music, but Luna seems like she's warming up to the type of music I listen to.

"What about you?" I asked her, asking her about her favorite song. She bit her lip in response and started swiping towards it in her music list.''

"You might not like it. It's kind of slow and sad I guess."

"Huh? What are you talking about, I'm sure I'll like it! Plus, you listened to my song so it's only fair that I listen to yours."

"You're sweet, Cal," she said softly before playing the song. I felt a gentle heat rush to my cheeks, but I shook it off. Luna's voice is so soft-spoken and caring. I bet she could make anyone feel better just by speaking to them in the way she does. I looked from her to her music player to pay attention to the song and I ended up liking it once it was over.

"Told you I would like it," I said as I added the song to my playlist. She grinned and flipped to the next song.''

"I'm glad! Let's see if you like these!"

The two of us listened to each other's music for a couple of hours until I could feel the hunger building in my stomach.

"Hey, you getting hungry,"

"Yeah, I was just about to ask you the same thing," she said as she stood up from the bed. I stood up as well and followed her into the kitchen. She looked at the cockpit and Greez and Cere were still over there doing their own thing.

"Hmm, Greez looks busy," she muttered. I looked over to them and a thought came to my head.

"That's okay! He doesn't have to cook for us. I will!"

"You will?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. She looked slightly skeptical but mostly intrigued. I put my hands on my hips and tried to appear as confident as ever.

"Of course! I can make us the Bracca special!"

"What's the…Bracca special?" She asked in between small laughs.

"Watch and learn."

I rummaged through the fridge and the pantry and took out an array of ingredients. I was going to make a soup that I used to get from the local diner in Bracca. I had eaten it so much that I know the recipe by heart. It was basically a spicy gumbo. I would just have to replace the meat we had on Bracca with whatever Greez has in his fridge. I turned on the stove and filled the pot with various ingredients. I got to the spicy stuff and stopped right before I dropped them in the pot.

"You're okay with spicy food, right?"

"Yeah, I'm good with it," she replied.

Awesome. It's way better when it's spicy. I dropped everything I needed into the pot and placed it on the hot stove. I then stirred it every few seconds while also cutting up the meat. Luna stood there and watched me with her hands behind her back.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you think I'll like whatever you're making?" She asked as she looked inside the burning pot. I had an easy answer for that.

"A 10 obviously."

She smiled and looked over at BD-1 who had just been silently watching us for the past couple of hours. I hope he doesn't feel left out.

"Wow, that's a high number. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you think BD-1 will like whatever you're making?"

"BD can't eat human food," I replied smartly, dropping the chopped meat into the pot and stirring. She shrugged and sat down at the table.

"Good point."

I chuckled and then focused on finishing the gumbo. I made enough for everyone, just in case Cere and Greez wanted some. After about an hour of sitting on the hot stove, the gumbo was ready. While the gumbo had been cooking, Luna and I just talked and played cards out of boredom.

"It's finally ready," I said with relief.

"About time," Luna said. I gave her a look and she brought her hands up.

"…Kidding!" She laughed.

"That's what I thought," I told her, pouring equal portions into each bowl. I handed her a bowl and then handed Cere and Greez a bowl. They thanked me and I went back to the kitchen where Luna was. She took a spoonful of the gumbo and I could tell she loved it.

"Well?"

"It's wonderful! You're a really good cook, Cal!"

"Thanks," I said happily.

"Yeah, you're definitely the designated cook if Greez somehow can't do it. And if we're on a planet and can't get back to the ship, I expect a home-cooked meal then as well."

"That seems like a lot," I laughed. She shrugged her shoulders and finished her bowl. She was hungry! Then again, so am I…

"A girl's gotta eat!" She exclaimed, putting her bowl in the sink. She then yawned and stretched her arms out. I glanced at BD and he looked at me with amusement.

"You tired?" I asked. She took a second to respond but she eventually nodded and put her hand on her tummy.

"Yeah, especially after eating. What about you?"

"I feel okay, but I could sleep."

I stood up after finishing my bowl and put it in the sink next to Luna's.

"…Today was fun though! I really enjoyed it."

"Me too! I never had days like this on Hosnian Prime where I could just spend time doing nothing with a friend. It was relaxing and cool to hang out with you some more," she said as we walked to our rooms. That makes me happy that she said that. I couldn't ask for a better person to spend my day with.

"I'm glad and feel the same. So…I'll see you tomorrow on Zeffo?" I asked. She smiled and opened her bedroom door.

"See you tomorrow on Zeffo."

She entered her room and gave me a small wave before closing her door. I let out a sigh of content and followed BD-1 into my room. I closed the door behind me and sat on the bed.

"You didn't talk much today, BD. You okay?"

He beeped and hopped on the bed.

"Ah, okay. You just wanted us to focus on each other? BD-1, you're a part of our group so you should be our focus to. Next time, don't be afraid to talk our ears off!" I told the robot with a grin. He nodded and lowered his body on the bed comforter. The light in his eye lens shut off so he must have gone into sleep mode. It must be nice to have the ability to go to sleep instantly. The life of a robot…

"Goodnight, buddy…"

I brought my legs up on the bed and laid my head on the pillow. We were still in hyperspace, so the same blue light shined above me. It helped me finally fall asleep after a few minutes.

When I wake up, it'll be time to explore Zeffo. I can't wait.

And that's the end of the chapter! Yes, just a small stress-free chapter to build the connection between Cal and Luna. Hopefully I did it okay. They still have a long way to go. Please review or comment on the story and tell me what you think! If you have any ideas feel free to tell me! I read every single thing you guys post. Finally, thanks for reading the story and I'll see you guys next time!
