The black town-car stopped in front of the Sheffield mansion. The driver opened the door as CC stepped out and was helped to a standing position by Chandler. The driver handed over her bag and she turned to Chandler to give him a peck on the cheek.

Chandler pulled her in by the waist giving her a deep kiss. She put a hand on his chest as she turned away smiling at him. She sauntered to the mansion stairs and suddenly felt a pit in her stomach as she shut the entryway door. She leaned back on the door for a moment looking straight ahead.

"Have you lost your mind, Babcock?" The deep voice called from the stairs.

CC startled and looked at Niles, who was standing on the second step of the stairs. He leaned on the railing with one elbow and his brows knitted.

CC's face went flat. "What are you talking about?"

He took a step down. "Well, let's think. Just this morning, you practically sucked the flesh off my face, and now you're standing out front slobbering on Chandley-pooh in broad daylight."

She crossed her arms as she stared at him, and he continued. "Is this a taste test of some sort? Did brand A win?"

CC recomposed herself as her inside quaked slightly. "Niles, I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about." She flipped her hair and walked toward the office. "And even if I did, I'm sure you could never be brand A."

"I'll call an ambulance. You obviously have a concussion, blonde." Niles stepped down from the steps and walked swiftly after her, following her into the office.

She looked at him as he entered. "Where's Maxwell?"

"Out with Miss Fine for the afternoon." He said it still frowning.

"Figures." CC rolled her eyes and sat down on the couch for a moment with her bag. She wanted to leave, but she was trying to pretend everything was normal.

Niles sat on the desk again for the second time that day and crossed his arms. "Are you really going to sit there and act like nothing happened this morning…again?"

"I'm not sure what you're referring to."

Niles' mouth fell open. "Are you serious?"

She picked her bag back up so she could leave. She wasn't staying without Maxwell there as a buffer.

Niles stood up quickly. "Babcock!"

She stopped and turned, causing her hair to fly over her shoulder. "What?!"

Niles went to the terrace doors and opened them, then he walked to her and grabbed her by the wrist. "Come on."

He pulled her out onto the terrace as she yelped, "Niles!"

He shut the doors behind them, and she shook herself out after he let go of her.

He turned back, "I don't want the children to interrupt."

She stood rigidly. "Niles, I'm not sure what you think happened this morning. But I'm fine and I don't want to talk about it."

"So, what? We just ignore it. -Move on and act like it didn't happen? -Again!?"

CC tried to shake it off by taking a slow deep breath staring into his poised blue eyes as they read her.

After a moment, she groaned in frustration and turned toward the terrace ledge. She looked out as she leaned on her elbows. "What do you mean again?"

He walked up close behind her. "Again, as in, every time we share a moment, every time we get close, every time we kiss…you run."

She turned back to him as he spoke. "Niles! Stop it!" She curled her fists as she watched him undo his tie and his blue eyes attractively lit from within. Attractive? It was too much. "I can't speak to you anymore."

She quickly tried to brush past him and he caught her wrist and pulled her to him holding her by the waist. "He has no idea who you are."

"And you do?" She wanted to push him off but her body didn't move.

"His eyes were soft suddenly and he opened his mouth to say something but then he closed it again.

She just stared at him, her mind suddenly going blank. She wouldn't let her body do this to her again, but it was taking over…warming.

He looked down at her lips as she inadvertently searched his face and then he brought his face closer. "CC, why are you wasting your time?"

His head bent slowly and so did hers as her body began to pulsate. Worse, she didn't try to move away until the terrace doors opened suddenly, and then they could barely move. Their heads turned as if in trance.

"Niles, we just got back and…" It was Nanny Fine. She stopped. "Oh! I'm sorry, I was…uh...never mind." she tiptoed backwards and began to close the doors.

CC stared at the nanny as the doors closed. Maxwell could be behind the nanny. She found herself breaking from Niles, "It's ok, nanny fine, I was just leaving."

The nanny turned as CC brushed passed and Niles mumbled something at the nanny behind her back.

The doorbell rang and the nanny ran past to answer the door putting her hands up at them. "I'm sorry. You two, don't worry about a thing. I'll get it."

Niles caught up to CC in the hall "Babcock? Can we talk later?" CC nodded slowly and took a breath as Niles reached for her hand. "Niles- "

He lifted her hand to hold it and he looked down at a refraction of light that glinted up at him. He pulled her hand up between them and they both looked down.

"Brunette, what is this?" His voice was deep, but she may have heard a quake.

CC met his eyes and suddenly, she didn't want to tell him anymore. Her voice was uncharacteristically soft. "I accepted Chandler's proposal today." It was more like they came to an agreement.

"How?!" His voice was hardening.

"I said 'yes.'" She couldn't find her voice.

"I meant; how could you think that was a good idea after this morning?"

Her body was agitated, and she needed to get away and clear this feeling. "Do you know what I remember about this morning? A big argument."

"I was there. I know what you felt. So, how could you be wearing his ring a few hours later, Babcock?"

"You're wondering how I could wear the ring of a man I've actually been dating?" The words were soft but becoming firmer.

"He suddenly popped up with a ring after last night?" Niles' face was finally angry again.

"No. We went to Tiffany and got it this afternoon." They were back to heated from hurt.

"Just like that?!"

The Nanny appeared in the hallway. "I'm sorry, Niles, but your girlfriend is. here." The nanny quickly put her fingernail to her mouth and bit it. "I mean, you have a visitor." She gave them an apologetic look.

It was like being snapped back to reality. With that CC pulled her hand away angrily. "You heard her. Your girlfriend is here, Niles."

"You're not marrying him."

"I am, Niles, and nothing you say will change that! Go tend to your girlfriend." She turned and headed for the kitchen door because she couldn't bear to say hello to that girl.

Oh yeah?!

She turned and went through the dining room door. "Yeah!"

She could hear Niles yelling through the dining room door. "Well two could play at that game!"

She turned around and kicked at the door leaving a dent in the dining room door. "Good!"

CC could hear that his voice was loudly projected in her direction as she fumed. "I missed you too, sweetie. I missed that sweet gentle demeanor of yours."

"Niles, what's got into you?" Shay giggled. CC kicked the dining room door again as it made her cringe.

She stormed to the kitchen flung the door open and then slammed it once she was outside. She made two fists at the air and then turned back to the house wishing his big fat face was in front of her.

Then she straightened her jacket and purse on her shoulder, standing erect. She couldn't believe she was almost won over by whatever that was. Her stomach tightened another notch. She wouldn't let this happen again. She turned and headed out the back way.
