Chapter Sixty Eight: Friend Like Me.

The wind was restless.

The moon shone high above the courtyard where the Guardians tree stood proudly. The window made the tree creak and groan. The air held no temperature but any that felt it would feel the pull of magic. It was like a call, one that made the guardians appear.

"Of course," Fintan grumbled, "It just had to be in the middle of the night…."

"Well it is the day in some other worlds," Zahra said cheerfully.

"Well it's not here," Fintan said with a huff.

"The question is," Aislinn asked softly, "Why are we being summoned here?"

"Trust me," Jack Frost said, bitterly, "You'll find out why in a minute."

Aislinn would have said something when there was a rustle. Aislinn looked to see a hooded figure come out from behind the tree. The cloak was all white, and covered the person's body. There was a glow around them, one that was awe inspiring. All fell silent as they inclined their heads.

"Fate," murmured Fintan apologetically.

Fate did not say anything right away as the group of guardians. However, when Fate did speak, it came out in strange whispers that only the Guardians could understand. Zahra was quiet as Fintan closed his eyes. Aislinn looked upset, her blue eyes showing her inward protests. Jack was not nearly as silent, however.

"I want to be the one who tells her."

"Jack," Aislinn started, exasperated.

"No!" Jack snapped, glowering at her coldly, "I will be the one that tells her."

"Jack, that's not how it works-!" Zahra started.

"No, I think that's how it should work," Fintan murmured, "She knows him best. She might get upset if he doesn't tell her what he knows."

"But it's all our responsibilities-!" Aislinn started only to be interrupted from a murmuring echo from Fate.

"No."

All of them looked at the cloaked figure in surprise as it lifted its arm and pointed a Jack. Jack stepped forward as the others watched nervously. He approached Fate until he was only a foot away. There was murmuring that only Jack could understand. Determination filled his eyes as he said, "I understand…"

Fate inclined its hooded head before it faded right before their very eyes. Aislinn looked upset as Fintan and Zahra exchanged worried looks. Jack breathed in deep as Aislinn finally said, "I should be the one guiding her."

"It's not meant to be you," Jack said a little on the short side, "Fate made that quite clear."

"We won't fight with Fate," Fintan interrupted before Aislinn could speak again, "Fate always has reasons and it is not our duty to interfere where we should not. Jack, are you sure she'll be ready for this?"

Jack twirled his staff as the air around them grew cold. Zahra shivered as Fintan made a bit of a face. Jack did not look at him with any emotion as he said, "With the right pushes, she will be."

"Presenting the Sultan of Agrabah!"

The Queen of Hearts court was all in attendance, standing neatly in lines on either side of the Grand Hall. Queen Cora stood with the Knave of Hearts and her Royal Guard with Alice close by. She was dressed in a pretty red dress that stretched to her ankles. Upon her head was a golden headband with hearts of all sizes. Her hair fell down in curls as Alice watched the Sultan come in with a beautiful girl the age of sixteen. Her hair fell straight down her back, her head adorned with an Arabian circlet. Her Arabian dress was different than Alice had ever seen. It was tight to her body and the deepest blue she had ever seen. Silver and gold embroidery decorated the skirts, which rustled against the floor. The court bowed as they passed by, guards following behind. Alice glanced at Cora briefly before looking towards them as they stopped. Cora inclined her head as she said in a gentle voice, "Sultan, it is an honor for you to visit me."

"Of course, Beautiful Queen," the Sultan said with his thick accent, "We have business and pleasantries to discuss."

"Of course," Cora said as she approached him. They kissed cheeks as Alice watched attentively. The teen girl seemed uninterested as she watched the display. Cora stepped back from him as the Sultan said, extending his hand, "This is my daughter, Princess Jasmine."

"Princess it is an honor to have you stay in my home," Cora said politely.

"It is an honor," Jasmine said politely, but it was much hollower than Cora's voice. She bowed her head only briefly, which made Cora's facial expression flicker. However the Sultan said, quickly, "And may I introduce my advisor, Jafar."

Alice swallowed as tall man walked forward. He clung to a serpent staff and his eyes were dark and cold. She didn't like him. He seemed shady… shadier than some other people she could name in this court. But she didn't let it show. Jafar bowed deeply as he said, "Majesty, it is an honor."

"Rise. You are welcome in this court," Cora said smoothly. Jafar backed away as the Sultain said eagerly, "So I heard you have acquired a new pet?"

"I have," Cora said proudly, waving her hand at Alice to come forward and greet them. Alice left the Tweedlies and Will. Alice stood by Cora as the Queen said, "This is Lady Alice Little."

Alice bowed deeply, as she knew to do, and waited for permission to speak. What came next was surprising.

"Aha!" the Sultan said with a boasting smile, "Does this Pet of yours bark or meow?"

There was a little snicker throughout court as Cora cleared her throat. The Court silenced immediately as Alice felt a rush of heat and indignation run through her. The Sultan's humor died a moment as Cora said, "My Pet is a highly esteemed position in my court. She is to me as your daughter is to you."

"Forgive me," The Sultan said with a bow to Alice, "I meant no disrespect."

Alice forced a pretty smile as she said, "All is well, Sultan."

"Alice and my Tweedlies will take care of the Princess while we take care of our business," Queen Cora said smoothly. Alice stepped forward and smiled at Princess Jasmine who watched her warily. Alice curtsied once more and said, "If you will come with me, Princess Jasmine. I promise you will be most entertained."

Jasmine did not smile back as she said, "I'm sure I will."

Granny awoke with a start.

She was always a light sleeper. It had been this way ever since she had been bitten. However, tonight was a night she didn't just come out of a light sleep. It was because she heard a sound of someone walking. Someone that should not be in the house. Reaching for her cross bow, Granny was alarmed to find that it was missing from its usual hiding spot. Panic shot through her as he first thought went to the girl sleeping down the hall. Scrambling out of her bed, Granny made her way out into the hallway.

It was still dark, being the middle of the night. This didn't stop her from racing to Alison's bedroom and peering in. Alison laid asleep in her bed, no disturbance of any kind. Relief filled her for a brief moment only for it to disappear with a creak near the stairwell.

"Who's there?" Granny asked with narrowed eyes. She walked towards the stairwell, turning on the lights. No one was there. However there was a feeling in her gut that said her sight was deceiving her. Wandering down the stairs, Granny found herself glancing at the closed front door. Granny had only taken two steps when she heard a ringing in her ears.

With dread, she felt her heart abruptly stop.

Alison moaned a little bit, rubbing her eyes. She had been quite happy underneath the warmth of her comforter. A thump had arisen her from her sleep, making her sit up a little groggily. Creeping out of bed, she looked over at the clock to see it was three in the morning. She must have been dreaming. Feeling the slight stickiness in her mouth, Alison wandered out of her room to go get something to drink. The light on was her first surprise. Granny always turned out all the lights. Approaching the stairwell carefully, Alison asked, "Granny? Are you up?"

Tiptoeing down the stairs, Alison didn't see anything wrong at first. It wasn't until she got closer to the bottom that she noticed Granny lying on the floor perfectly still.

"Granny!" Alison was at her side in a minute, pulling her over. Granny's eyes were closed and her breathing nonexistent. Feeling for her pulse, Alison was in tears at finding none. Grabbing onto her, Alison instinctively waved her free hand. A blue cloud surrounded them as they suddenly appeared in the emergency room. The nurse on duty nearly jumped out of her skin as she said, "What in the wor-!?"

"Go get a doctor now!" Alison shouted, "She doesn't have a pulse!"

The nurse leaped into action, shouting out for help. Granny was heavy in Alison's arm as she looked on helplessly. What she would have given in all the worlds to trade her magic for the ability to heal. The doctors soon pulled Granny away, much to Alison's protest. It was a rush of a feeling, of extreme overprotectiveness. The nurse however was stern as she said, "They need to help her-!"

"I want to go with he-!"

"You can't!" the nurse said firmly but not unkindly, "I need you to tell me exactly what happened."

"I don't know-I came downstairs and she was lying like that on the floor!" Alison said, her emotions getting the better of her. The nurse shushed her gently as she said, "Can you do me a favor? Just breath for me and tell me who I need to call."

Alison swallowed, taking a few deep breaths before saying shakily, "Ruby-her number is 207-678-2398."

"Thank you," the nurse said, "Please, wait here."

The nurse hurried away, immediately picking up the phone. Alison stepped back, leaning against the wall. A wave of exhaustion hit her, draining her physically and emotionally. Shaking her head, Alison couldn't make sense of the feeling she had. She couldn't make sense of anything right now.

Nothing.

"And all of the birrrrrrds sang!" Tweedlies sang, her voice loud and untuned. Jasmine and Alice said on cushioned chaises as the Tweedlies kept them entertained. It seemed to be working as Alice saw Jasmine giggle into her sleeve as she said, "Lady Tweedle, that was very… amusing."

"Thank you Princess," Tweedlie said with a smile, "And I hope Lady Alice was just as entertained?"

It had been something she had asked of her Tweedlie prior to the 'show'. Jasmine had seemed so forlorn that Alice thought it would be impossible to talk with her. The Tweedlies had agreed to her plan to be as silly as possible in hopes that Alice could discover what she liked to really do. Alice smiled knowingly at the Tweedles as she said, "Yes, it was really funny. You two can go know if you so like. I know her Majesty Queen Cora gave you things to do."

The Tweedlies smiled at her fondly as her main companion (Tweedlie La as Alice called her) spoke kindly, "As always, Lady Alice, you are understanding as you are sweet. Please ring if you need us."

The two bowed and left Princess Jasmine and Alice alone. Alice smiled over at Jasmine as the Princess tried to muffle her giggles. Alice tilted her head slightly as she said, "You don't have to hide it. You're supposed to laugh at the song."

"I'm sorry, Lady Alice," Jasmine said with a smile that seemed a little more genuine, "I am unfamiliar with Wonderland's jests and plays."

"It's alright," Alice said, "Her Majesty said you might not know."

"Tell me," Jasmine asked curiously and hopefully, "Honestly if it is possible."

"Of course," Alice said, simply.

"What is it your Majesty has instructed you to do?"

"To entertain you," Alice said, unbothered, "And keep you company while you are here."

"Is this what you normally do?"

"Not usually," Alice said bobbling her head, "Will keeps me company or she sends me to the Hatters. I don't get to play with the guests that come through."

Jasmine nodded and asked, "Do you like to play at the Hatters?"

"Yes, but I like meeting the guests too," Alice said, and then added with a wrinkle of her nose, "Even if they call me a dog."

Jasmine looked apologetically as she said, "My father didn't mean to be insulting. He was told the Pet's of this court could change from animal to human."

"Not me," Alice said, "But I suppose I would see why he thought I was a dog."

Jasmine giggled as Alice asked, "So what do you like to do? The Tweedlies are fun to watch but it's not what you like doing."

"What I like doing," Jasmine said, her eyes falling a bit distant, "I'm afraid I can't answer, Lady Alice. In my country, I do what I am told I must do."

"Oh," Alice said, uneasily, "Like orders?"

"Like Orders," Jasmine said.

"But if you didn't have them," Alice said, "What would you like to do?"

"See things," Jasmine said, with a sigh, "Explore the outside world. Meet people…"

"Well," Alice said, "I think I know where to go."

"But Lady Alice," Jasmine said, surprised, "Surely the Queen would protest-!"

"The Queen told me to entertain you," Alice said simply, "She didn't say we couldn't leave."

Alice peeked at Jasmine as she said, with a wrinkle of her nose, "But we'll have to get you a new dress though. It's too pretty to get tea on."

"I do know how to drink tea, Lady Alice," Jasmine said surprised.

"I know, but sometimes the March Hare forgets how to," Alice said with a huff.

"You're here this morning. Henry's not even awake yet"

Emma watched as Snow White came around the corner. It was early in the morning, the sun just peeking through the curtained windows. Snow was dress in simple pajama's while Emma was already dressed for the day. Henry had slept over so he could spend time with his Grandparents. Sipping her coffee, Emma said with a sigh, "Yeah, I got a call from Ruby this morning. Alison had to magic Granny to the emergency room this morning."

"What?!" Snow said alarmed only for Emma to shush her. Snow glanced back to make sure she woke no one up. Emma walked closer the Snow as the black haired royal asked worried, "What happened?!"

"She found Granny on the floor. According to the doctors, she had a heart attack," Emma said wearily, "They managed to revive her but she hasn't woken up yet."

"Oh my," Snow said, "But why were you called?"

"Ruby called in hopes I could heal her," Emma said, making a small face, "Which I tried…"

"I feel like there is a 'but' coming on," Snow said, uneasily.

"I couldn't do it," Emma said, uncomfortably, "Every time I would try to, my magic would just… I don't know hover? Like it wouldn't soak into her."

"That can't be a good sign," Snow said, worried, "Can't Alison heal her?"

"Alison's magic doesn't heal," Emma said, putting her coffee cup down, "Regina said because of the type of magic she possesses. I don't understand it exactly but she's not able to."

"Poor thing," Snow whispered, "Is she here?"

"No," Emma sighed, "Ruby wanted her to but she wouldn't budge from Granny's side."

"So close to Christmas and the Gold's aren't back either," Snow said sadly, "She really didn't need this-!"

Their conversation was interrupted when Henry came dashing down the stairs. He had dressed himself in winter clothes, pulling on his socks. He stumbled over to the door when Emma said, "Kid! What are you doing?"

"Outside-I need to get down to the lake!" Henry said, excitedly.

"What? Kid, it's like six thirty in the morning," Emma said moving around, "What could you possibly need to go down to the lake for?"

"Especially on a school day-?" Snow White asked only for the phone to ring. Henry grinned as he said, "You really should have looked outside. There is not going to be school today."

"Wha-?" Emma hurried over to the window as Snow answered the phone. Henry was pulling on his boots when Emma pulled back the curtain. Her jaw dropped when she saw a swirling white snow fall.

"Mom, can I call Alison on your cell phone. Most likely she's already down by the lake, she promised Jack-!"

"Wait just a minute kid," Emma said turning back to face him, "First, Alison's at the hospital. Second, what did you guys promise who?"

"What?!" Henry stopped dead, looking at Emma fearfully, "Why? What happened to her?"

"Geez, you all are noisy this morning," Charming murmured as he came out of the bed room, "It's not even time for school."

"Well apparently there is no school today," Snow said after she hung up the phone, "That was the school calling to cancel."

"What? Why?" Charming said only for Henry to interrupt, "What happened to her?!"

"Take it easy kid, it's not her," Emma said, a little exasperated but gentle as she continued, "Granny had a heart attack last night. She's been at the hospital all night."

"But she was fine just yesterday!" Henry said panicking, "Why would she-?"

"Henry don't worry, the doctors are taking good care of her," Emma said reassuringly, "Look, I need to head over to the hospital to ask some questions. Why don't you come with me?"

Henry stomped his shoes on and quickly grabbed her keys saying, "I'll start the bug!"

Emma barely got a chance to protest as Henry dashed out of the door. Sighing, Emma said, "That kid is going to be the death of me."

"Granny had a heart attack last night?" Charming asked, surprised.

"Yes," Emma said putting on her coat, "I'll fill you in later. I need to go unbury the bug again."

Emma left the two alone as Snow rubbed her small baby bump. Charming walked over to her as Snow said softly, "Poor Alison. She apparently had to poof Granny to the hospital."

"That poor kid can't catch a break can she?" Charming said with a sigh, "Hopefully Granny will be okay."

"Well if need be Kathryn can take care of her," Snow said, walking over to the fridge. She pulled out orange juice from the top shelf when Charming said, "Yeah, I'm not too sure about that."

"What do you mean?" Snow asked, a little surprised.

"We had a meeting of the nobles the other day," Charming said, "To decide what to do about the empty mayor position. Midas was talking with another noble and they asked about Kathryn taking care of the Dark One's kid. He seemed rather abrupt in saying she wasn't doing that anymore."

"Odd," Snow said uneasy, "Perhaps he just meant that she wasn't being a 'nanny' to her?"

"I hope so," Charming said with a sigh, "Alison loves Kathryn, and vice versa. I'd hate to see someone come between that."

"And a VERY MERRY UNBIRTHDAY TO YOU!"

The March Hare threw the cup high into the air, causing tea to spill all over the Hatter. The Hare cackled as the Mad Hatter sputtered. Alice was in fits of giggles as Jasmine sat at the end with more casual dress than she had before. She looked thoroughly amused and relaxed, holding a tea cup in her hand. The Mad Hatter looked less than pleased as he said, "Now look at what you've done! Ruining the table cloth after the day of washing! You could have done it two days past and it would have been perfect timing!"

"But the day of washing always comes around again," Alice said trying to reason with him. It was very hard to do when she was in fits of giggles. The Mad Hatter narrowed his eyes at her as he spoke, "But not until many hours have gone by, Alice Little. Do you know nothing of manners from living in that castle? Or has she filled you head with pretty curtsies and proper dresses?"

"I think you mean pretty dresses and proper curtsies," Alice huffed, "And stop being so rude! We have a guest and it's mean to try and make me cry with other people!"

"Well we can't have that now can we," mused the Hatter, "Which means we can only have one course of actions to follow next!"

Alice shrieked as the Mad Hatter scooped her into his lap, tickling her sides. Jasmine laughed, trying to conceal her mouth as she did so. However a shadow amongst the tree's caught her attention, stopping her laughter all together. Looking at the group nervously, Jasmine quietly disappeared amongst the trees. Alice was giggling madly when Jefferson finally stopped and said, "When will you learn frowns are not allowed? And you are getting too big to be using me as a chair anymore!"

"When you learn to be nice to people! And you're the one that pulled me into your lap," Alice huffed. The March Hare cackled as he began to juggle tea cups poorly. The Mad Hatter released Alice as he scowled.

"March Hare, will you quit destroying all the cups!" The Mad Hatter said, "We shall never be able to drink tea with them!"

Alice noticed Jasmine's absence and her heart fell. Had she had enough? Was she not enjoying herself? Alice got off the Mad Hatter's lap as she wandered towards the forest line. She was no longer paying attention to the chitter chatter of the Mad Hatter's rant. Instead, she found herself searching the forest for Jasmine. She could hear her voice whispering but Alice was not sure where. Peeking out from behind a tree, Alice almost gasped when she saw Jasmine kissing someone that looked like one of the Sultan's servants.

"We'll find a way out of this," the servant whispered as the two parted, "I may have a way-!"

"I don't know," Jasmine said sadly, "I've heard there are many spies in this court. I couldn't bear it if you were to die on my account."

"I will be fine," the servant reassured her, "You should get back before that Princess realizes you've gone."

Alice took that as her que to hurry back to the Mad Hatter's tea party. When she had returned the party was already in shambles.

The end table had flipped, smashed food, cups, and tea pots were strewn around the lawn. The rest of the table had everything kicked off as the March Hare bounced around, throwing things at Chess, who kept disappearing and reappearing unharmed. The Mad Hatter was in a fit.

"Terrible! Absolutely terrible!" the Mad Hatter cried as Jasmine appeared from the forest and walked towards Alice, "There can be no more tea for anyone!"

"My goodness," Jasmine said surprised.

"It's normal," Alice said, "It always ends up like this. Shall we head back to the castle?"

"I think its best we do," Jasmine said, "I would hate to be late for her Majesty's dinner."

Alison opened her eyes, blinded a moment by the light. Blinking a couple of times, Alison saw that she had dozed off in the corner chair by Granny's bed. Stretching, Alison winced as she felt her slightly aching muscles. Looking over towards Granny's bed, she saw the woman watching her with very tired eyes as she said, "You look terrible. Mind you, I may not look much better."

"Granny," Alison said, getting up to go sit on her bed. Granny looked at her wearily as she said, "I'm sorry. I'm the one that's supposed to be taking care of you, not the other way around."

"Don't apologize, it's not like you asked to have a heart attack." Alison said, shaking her head, "But why were you down stairs?"

"Just to get myself something to drink," Granny said evasively. Alison noticed the quick statement and would have asked about it if Henry hadn't come charging into the room with Ruby and August. Emma followed at a slower pace and leaned against the wall.

"Hey! You okay?" Henry asked, looking at the two of them worried. Granny nodded her head as she reached over to grasp Alison's hand. Alison gave Granny a worried look as August said, "So here is the plan for today. I say we head back home and get some of Alison's stuff before enjoying the day off."

"Day off?" Alison frowned as she looked at them with furrowed brows, "Don't we have school-?"

"No, guess what?!" Henry said excitedly, "It snowing!"

"Snowing?" Alison looked confused as August walked over to the window and pulled open the blinds. Sure enough the outside world had turned into a winter wonderland. Alison gasped a little bit as she looked at Henry conflicted. Granny noticed as she said, "Well what are you waiting for? Go on, I know you and Henry have been looking forward for the first snow fall."

"Are you sure?" Alison asked as Granny smiled reassuringly at her.

"Go on," Granny said softly, "I'll be fine. If you look under my bed in the guest bedroom you'll find an early Christmas present to use."

"Lizzie, let Granny get some rest," August said reassuringly, "That's all she needs right now."

Alison finally relented, nodding her head a bit before giving Granny a kiss on the cheek. Alison was pulled away by Henry as they followed August out of the room. Ruby's cheerful demeanor faded away as Emma walked closer to Granny. Granny's soft look turned hard as Emma said, "You're not going to get better are you?"

"The doctor said that the likelihood of another heart attack is high," Granny said wearily, "I am not sure how okay I'm going to be but I am going to make sure Alison is."

"What do you mean?" Emma said, furrowing her brows.

"Last night I woke up hearing someone walking around," Granny said, "It wasn't Alison, I know that for sure. I went to find my cross bow and it was gone. I went to investigate downstairs and that is when I felt my heart just… stop."

"August and I checked the bow was back in its place this morning," Ruby said, frowning deeply.

"So someone was definitely in the house," Emma said, slowly.

"And I am sure they were after Alison, I can feel it," Granny said, "I just want to know why they didn't go after her after they got me."

"I'll check the house," Emma said, looking depressed, "We'll find who was in there…"

"Thank you," Granny said, her voice cracking a bit. Emma watched Granny a moment before walking over towards the door. She paused a moment before turning around to say, "Just… don't lie to Alison if you're not doing well. Her lie radar is just as good as mine."

Emma left as Ruby sat on the bed with Granny. A nurse came in with two cups of tea smiling a Granny kindly. Giving the two women the cups, the nurse said sweetly, "Here. You could use them after a long night."

"Thank you." Granny looked at her until the nurse left them alone. Granny then looked over at Ruby sadly as tears filled her Granddaughters eyes. Ruby grasped her hand as she whispered, "Promise you won't go without a fight. I can't protect her like you can."

"Yes you can," Granny said, "I know you can, Red."

Ruby watched Granny with tears in her eyes as Granny kissed her hand saying, "I will try though."

Alice heard a shriek from down the hall.

She was heading to the Grand Hall, with Will at her side. The two of them had been summoned by the Queen for the meeting was coming to a close. They were almost to the doors when they had heard the noise. Alice looked startled as she asked, "What was that?"

"It sounds as if someone is unhappy, Mi'Lady," Will said eyeing the door nervously. Alice looked at him upset as she said, "Why do you always call me that? I told you its okay to call me Alice."

"But we are approaching Court and the Queen demands that titles be used," Will said gently, his accent ever so apparent, "Don't be upset love, I haven't forgotten."

Alice pouted a bit but it didn't last long. Alice almost shrieked herself as the doors opened loudly. Jasmine stormed through them as people cried out after her. Alice found herself filled with concern for her new friend as she hurried after her. Will protested but Alice was much too quick for him.

"Of all the inconsiderate-!" Jasmine fumed.

"Jasmine what's wrong?" Alice asked as she reached to touch her friend's hand. Jasmine jerked it away as she stormed, "I can't stand the fakeness of this court! What is the use of being royal if you can't rule honestly and fairly!"

"Bu-But her Majesty is fair-!"

"Fair!" Jasmine scoffed, "She is as two faced as the others! She'd sell you off in marriage to some noble birthed as soon as she could!"

Jasmine stormed away, leaving Alice in the hall. Her body was shaky, stunned and hurt beyond compare. A tear slipped down her cheek as Will hurried beside her and grabbed her hands. Pulling her to face him, Will said, "There, there love. Don't cry."

"Bu-But-!" Alice stammered, "Jasmine-!"

"The Queen wants us in the Grand Hall," Will said, "Can you put on a brave face? Save these evil tears for a time where I can soak 'em in my shirt?"

Alice couldn't help but smile at his quip and breathed in deep. She did this a couple more times until the stinging had stopped. Giving one more glance down the hall, Alice entered the court with a polite smile on her face.

Chesshire hated the cold.

It was a terrible thing he had to endure being in Storybrooke. The snow was always deep and cold and icy wherever he went. The wind was never ceasing with its below freezing temps and he would always end up with a cold. Even his Storybrooke persona didn't like the cold. So he would stay inside his shop with the heat on high and only venture out when absolutely necessary. Watching the snow out his office window, his mood soured even more to see that it had no signs of stopping.

"Chesshire!"

And then he heard her voice.

Putting on a lazy grin, Chesshire leaned back into the chair as he waited for Alice to join him. She did eventually come back into his office, decked out in winter clothes. Cheshire frowned as he said, "Well I don't like the looks of this. You look like your heading back out again."

"I am," Alison said, "Judging by your appearance, you aren't going out at all?"

"Much too cold, loves," Chesshire said, "Much too cold."

"Shame," Alison said, walking over to him and sitting on his lap, "I would have liked to see you skating."

"It would be a terrible sight," Chess said, wrinkling his nose, "And I would end up with a cold. You should as that other boy you spend time with. Fife, I think his name is?"

"Oh I've already bothered him," Alison said, reaching up to brush his hair out of his eyes, "But after the night I had last night, I needed to come see you."

"I heard through the grapevine about that," Chess said, looking up into Alison's face, "Is she alright?"

"I'm not sure," Alison said, making a face, "She's not being completely honest with me when she says she's fine…"

"I'm surprised you left her side," Chess said.

"She wanted me to go," Alison said, "And I don't exactly want to make her upset right now."

"I'll watch her, love," Chess said, smoothly, "No need to worry about it. Have fun freezing yourself on the lake."

"Meanie," Alison said, pouting, "I like skating, regardless of how cold it is."

"I think you just like the Guardian that makes the lake a solid block," Chess said pointedly.

Alison raised her brows as she said, "Is that jealousy that I see? I didn't think you were the type."

"I am not jealous," Chess said with a huff, "I happen to know that I am irreplaceable in your mind."

"Vain much?"

"Hardly," Chess mused, twirling a strand of her hair around, "Can you tell me who else has hair as soft as mine?"

Alison broke out into giggles as she stroked back his hair.

"Nope," Alison said, "I cannot."

"Then I have nothing to worry about," Chess said cheerfully, "Now go off and get skating."

Alison ruffled his hair before getting off his lap and said, "See you later Kitty Cat."

Chess wrinkled his nose as he said, "Not one of my better nicknames."

"Fussy, fussy," Alison teased before leaving him alone. Chess smiled coyly before saying, "Only for you, my dear. Only for you."

"I can't believe the Princess said those words to you!"

Tweedlie La was lacing Alice's nightgown gently as the woman huffed on. Alice was grateful that she cared but she did not have the stomach to talk about it. Tweedlie La finished tying up the strings as she said, "The Queen loves you. You are her Pet! And you've been nothing but the sweetest little thing! You pay her no mind! You pay her no mind!"

Alice was lost in thought, holding the little stuffed animal in her hand. She had it for when Chess was unable to stay with her. She wanted him to very badly, especially since the Queen had sent Will on a long trip. He couldn't even stay long enough to let her cry.

"Is she ready for bed?"

"Oh! Majesty!" Tweedlie La said turning around and curtsying deeply. Alice turned as well and did the same thing, but she stayed down longer than Tweedlie as the woman continued, "Yes, she is ready for you. Shall I leave you both now?"

"Yes, thank you," Cora said with a nod of her head and the Tweedlie left the alone. The door clicked shut as Cora's attention turned to Alice. She was still in a curtsy, staring at the ground. Cora sat in the cushy chaise she kept in the room and said, "Alice, my love, you can rise."

Alice came from her curtsy and looked at Cora with wide eyes. Cora's eyes soften as she said, "Jasmine is not as refined as you are, my love. You must find the strength to forgive her."

Cora opened her arms and whispered kindly, "Come here."

Alice raced into Cora's arms, allowing the woman to enfold her tightly. She wasn't allowed to do it normally, it wasn't nice to rush at someone. However Cora allowed it once in a blue moon when she truly needed it. Alice couldn't help the tears spilling out as Cora shushed her saying, "There, there. You did beautifully in court, Alice. You behaved a hundred times better and didn't let your pain show."

Alice let her tears fall so Cora could wipe them away with her hankerchief. Alice allowed herself to calm naturally as she said with a sniff, "Why did she say such things? It's not right to scream in court."

"Princess Jasmine is a strong willed royal," Cora said, "It will make her a great leader someday. However, in her land, it is customary to have arranged marriages to royals. She doesn't get any say."

"Is that normal?" Alice asked timidly as Cora idly played with a lock of Alice's hair.

"Yes it is," Cora said simply, "Does that bother you?"

"No," Alice said shaking her head, "You know better than me with those things."

"And yet something troubles you," Cora questioned, her stare sharp.

"Nobles marry nobles," Alice said, sadly, "I'm not a noble."

"Why?" Cora asked, her voice stern, "Because you are not of 'noble' blood?"

Alice heard the displeasure in her voice and stared down ashamed. However, Queen Cora tilted her chin up and said, "Do not be ashamed of where you come from. You are my Pet, MY choice. Anyone who dares turn their nose at my choices because of ridiculous things like noble blood is turning their nose up at the Queen of Wonderland."

"And that's rude," Alice said simple as she felt her sadness and shame ebb away. Cora smiled and said before pecking a kiss to her forehead, "Exactly. Now come, I'll tuck you in and your dreams will be pleasant."

"Unless they're about that laughing man again," Alice said as Cora led her to bed. A dark look came over her eyes when she tucked the sheets over Alice comfortingly.

"They will be pleasant," Cora said, "Even if I have to talk to the sandman myself."

Cora smiled at her comfortingly as she stood up and said, "Sleep well."

Cora left Alice then, walking down the corridor. The snobby Knave approached as Cora asked sharply, "Has he found it yet?"

"Not yet, Queen of Hearts," the Knave said loyally, "We haven't had any luck either, I'm afraid."

"Double the search," Cora said as they walked down the hallway, "If that adviser insists that it's here, it must be one way or another."

"He was using a spell provided by that imp," huffed the Knave, "I don't know how reliable it can be."

"Very," Cora snapped, a flare of anger in her eyes appearing, "Don't underestimate him. If he can't find it, that IMP must have a reason for it. Now find it, I won't have my leverage if we don't and I quite don't feel like giving up my Jack to get what I want."

"What exactly are we looking for?"

Emma was examining Granny's bedroom at the Gold's with Piper, rummaging through papers. Emma looked at Piper, who was looking at her questioningly. Emma sighed as she said, "Clues. Any clues that someone may have been in here that shouldn't have been."

"Are you sure that she wasn't just on edge because she was anxious?" Piper said, "I mean, maybe she was just disoriented. She did have a heart attack."

"I know, but she seemed adamant," Emma said, "And I want to make sure the kid is safe. If someone is after her, I want to nip it in the butt."

"Understandable," Piper said as Emma picked up the cross bow. Emma examined it and frowned. Coming out from behind the bed, Emma said, "Huh."

"What?" Piper asked.

"This arrow," Emma said, "It doesn't look like an arrow from Granny's arsenal. It's too modern."

"Let me see," Piper said, making his way over to Emma. Emma handed it to him as Piper looked over it. Emma kept her puzzled expression as she asked, "Why replace it with a modern arrow?"

"Because modern arrows," Piper said, fingering the tip, "Are hollow."

Pulling off the arrow head, he gave the arrow shaft a good shake. A tightly bound roll fell out, rolling onto the floor. Emma scooped down and immediately picked it up. Pulling off the string, Emma unrolled the scroll and began to read out loud.

"Congratulations Sheriff Swan, you have found the invitation. The games begun so you should run to find the next instructions. I'm targeted the 'wee ones' loves for they are in the pathway. I give a chance to make it right before I cause destruction. But beware, for if you dare to speak to the team of wonders, I will end all in sight and the wee one will be fair game. In the shop of gold, you'll find the next instructions. Failure to Participate- why is that capitalized?"

"Emma!" Piper said sharply.

"Sorry- Failure to Participate will allow the deck to activate and murder at alarming rates. I bid adieu until you do what I have carefully instructed. Good luck to you for this will not be the last time we will meet.- What does he mean meet?"

"I don't know," Piper said frowning, "but in all its encrypted messages, he made one thing clear. He's after 'wee ones' loves."

"Anyone who's close to Alison," Emma said, seriously, "Call David. Get him down to the lake to watch Alison and the kids. Tell him not to let them out of his sight and NOT to tell Alison what's going on. I'm going to call Regina and tell her to get Kathryn."

"Emma, wait-!" Piper said however Emma ran out of the room, dialing on her cell phone. Piper sighed before pulling out his own cellphone with a frown. He got a bad feeling from the message, something that made him very nervous.

Jefferson watched as the children skated across the lake, laughing and cheering as they went in circles. Grace spun around with Henry at slower paces, talking casually. If he didn't know Henry like he did, he would be stalking them like a hawk. However, the Evil Queen did something right in her life. Henry was much too respectful to do anything to inappropriate.

Now if only he could say the same for this Fife character.

Fife was skating around not too far behind Alison and Ava. He had showed up not too long ago. The boy hadn't said hello to Alison yet, but had been watching her. He seemed friendly in nature but there was something in the boy's eyes that he did not trust. So here he sat, watching them like a hawk.

"Hey Alison!"

Alison looked up to see Lesley and Jess skating towards her. Alison smiled as they came alongside her.

"Hey," Alison said, "How are you guys?"

"Happy to have the day off to skate!" Lesley said happily.

"Yeah, if only Molly and her crew weren't here," Jess mumbled, glance around the lake, "She's been bugging everyone she can."

"Just ignore it," Ava grumbled, "She gets away with everything."

"I wouldn't say everything," Alison said in undertone. Ava looked intrigued but never said anything more. Instead Lesley said, "Well, I refuse to let her ruin my day. Hey Jess, beat you around the circle!"

"Hey come back!" Jess and Lesley raced off leaving Ava and Alison to watch after them. Alison continued to skate as Ava asked, "Okay, what gives? First you don't let Henry tell Grace about Molly. Now you saying she doesn't get away with murder?"

"I said she doesn't get away with everything," Alison said, "Which is true. Haven't you noticed she always wears long sleeves?"

"Yeah what about it?" Ava asked before Alison elbowed her. Ava looked confused as Alison pointed quickly. Grace was zooming over with someone in tow. Something with raven black hair.

"Hey Alison!" Grace said, "Ava, I want to introduce you to my friend Molly."

If the four of them had been alone, it would have been dead silence. Ava made a face but kept her mouth shut. Molly was staring at the two of them with the most expressionless stare. However Alison could detect a slight shiver on her arm. Grace began to look confused as she asked, "Do-Do you two know each other?"

"Yes," Alison said quickly, "Yes we do."

Molly's expressionless look turned to sheer panic as she watched Alison. However Alison said quickly, "Sorry, we had a bit of an awkward meeting. We totally crashed into each other when I was still living with Darren and Felicity. Isn't that right Molly?"

"That's right," Molly spoke quickly and slightly shakily, "Ho-How have you been?"

"I've been fine," Alison said smoothly, "Comes skate with me?"

Alison's question was pointed as she held out her hand. Molly looked conflicted a moment before nodding rigidly. Alison smiled brightly before taking Molly's hand and skating off.

"Lady Alice?"

Alice was sitting in the garden, watching the Tweedlies water the Blue Bells. The flowers seemed like normal blue bells except they rang every time they were brushed up against. Jasmine approached alone, no servants or guards to surround her. Her expression was sad and regretful. Alice kept a blank face as she said stiffly, "Hello Princess Jasmine. Fancied a walk?"

"Please forgive me," Jasmine said with a plea. She fell to her knees as Alice stiffened. Alice did not move again as Jasmine said, "I was wrong, very wrong to say such things to you."

"I will," Alice said, after eyeing her carefully, "But can I ask you questions? I don't know about your world."

"Very well," Jasmine said, straightening up, "Ask me."

"First, where do you come from?"

"I come from a world far from this one," Jasmine said, idly, "It is called Agrabah. The sun is always warm and the sand rules the earth."

"So why are you here? If your world is so far away?"

"You really don't know the connection?" Jasmine said surprised, "Well, Lord Fintan favors both our worlds. He is the Guardian of the Season of Heat. Lord Fintan is a kind, jovial spirit. He has very few commands, but demands that the worlds he favor support one another."

"Oh," Alice said surprised. Cora had never mentioned this to her, "So you're here to visit?"

"My father is here to try and contract a marriage deal," Jasmine said stiffly, "With the Jack of Spades."

"Oh," Alice said surprised and alarmed. Glance over at the Tweedlies, Alice then whispered, "Is that why you were meeting the boy in secret?"

Alice honesty made Jasmine flinch. Her eyes went wide in horror as she looked at Alice. Alice watched her curiously as Jasmine stammered in fright, "What-How- My Lady have you told anyone this?"

"No," Alice said calmly, "My job is to keep you happy. I don't think telling would make you happy."

Jasmine sighed deep in relief as Alice asked, "Who is he?"

"Are they-?" Jasmine looked over at the Tweedlies nervously.

"No," Alice said, "The flowers here don't listen either. Just the rose garden. Who is he?"

"Aladdin," Jasmine said smiling, "We've known each other since we were children. He was servant in the gardens and we used to play when my father was busy."

"Then you fell in love?"

Alice's face was so curious Jasmine thought it was adorable. Smiling at the girl more bitterly, Jasmine said, "Yes we did. However Aladdin is only a servant. My Father wants me to marry a noble. Aladdin followed us here in hopes that we could escape, but I am being watched everywhere."

"Oh," Alice said crestfallen, "And now you're stuck. With the Jack of Spades no less."

"Is he terrible mean?" Jasmine asked, slightly fearful.

"No," Alice said wrinkling her nose, "Just a brat. His mother is not very nice to me. None of the Spades are."

"Why? Doesn't that angry Queen Cora?" Jasmine asked.

"No," Alice said, "Well, it doesn't seem to anger her. But she said she wants me to be able to deal with them so when I get older they will respect me."

Jasmine watched Alice, a strange look of pity on her face. Alice seemed oblivious as the Tweedlies came over to them and said, "I'm sorry Princess Jasmine. I've been summoned to bring you to court alone. Lady Alice, the Queen thanks you for keeping Jasmine happy and well. She is sorry she will not be able to see you today."

"It's okay," Alice said kindly, "Tell Her Majesty that I send my good wishes."

Jasmine stood up as did Alice. Curtsying, Alice said, "Goodbye Jasmine. I hope I'll see you later."

"I hope so too Alice," Jasmine said kindly. Jasmine was then lead away by the Tweedlies and Alice was left alone. Sighing, Alice found herself wandering into the maze alone.

The Maze didn't frighten her, even though she knew that the maze could be a dangerous place. Alice wandered around for what felt like hours when he saw an unusual sight.

Jafar, the Sultan's advisor, was walking quickly through the maze. He stopped near an entrance as he glanced around. Alice ducked around a corner to ensure she was not seen. Peeking out, she saw him hurrying down the opposite way. His staff tapped against the ground as he went. Alice curiousity was peeked once again and she found herself following him. She found him a few turns later, talking to a man that was not a man.

His skin was golden and glistening in the light. His clothes were either leather or brightly colored. In Alice's mind he looked absolutely ridiculous. However there was a power around him that rivaled the Queen of Hearts and that scared her.

"Well you seem to have come empty handed," the man said with a giggle, "Did your little plan not go as well?"

"I haven't been able to locate it," Jafar said coldly, "It's here somewhere here, that I know. But the Queen doesn't seem to know about it and I am running out of time, Rumpelstiltskin."

"Bossy, bossy," Rumple mocked as he paced around Jafar, "Especially when you can't hold up your end of the bargain."

"Your map as to where it is was not as clear as you said," Jafar said, "Now I will not be trifled with! It is bad enough that Queen is mocking me by toying me around instead of giving me what I want; I will not tolerate it from you."

"Mouthy, mouthy," Rumple said with a high pitched giggle, "You are lucky I have a new maid to go torment or I would have to punish you for that. In fact, I'll be even more generous and give you something that will make this… idiot proof for you."

The smoke burst around him, leaving Jafar alone and angry. Jafar began to thunder away as Alice panicked. There was nowhere to hide and she didn't think he would think kindly to her being here. Reaching into her skirt pocket, Alice pulled out a mushroom and bit into it. Shrinking, Alice found herself just a bit taller than an ant. Jafar thundered past, the world around her shaking. Alice yelped as she fell backwards into something hard. Turning around, Alice found herself staring at a beautiful lamp.

It was like nothing she had ever seen before. The lamp was on its side, the spout large in appearance. Inside it was a little light and Alice could not help but wonder what was inside.

So inside she went.

Alice crawled inside the lamp, following the dim light until she found herself falling down into it. Instead of landing on something hard, she landed on something soft.

"Oh!" Alice said looking around at the dim bottle. It was like a mini bedroom. Pillows were everywhere as well as other decorations but what caught Alice's attention was the young man sitting on the bed.

"What are you doing in here?" he asked queerly. His dark hair fell a bit into his eyes and his eyes were dark. He didn't look any older than eighteen (and that was at the most) and Alice couldn't help but notice the deep brown eyes he had. It made her blush even though she had no idea why.

"I'm sorry, I wanted to see inside," Alice said, "I didn't know people lived in lamps."

He smiled warmly as he said kindly, "Genie's do. I suppose the polite thing to do is offer you a cup of tea."

Alice smiled shyly as she said, "I would like that very much thanks."

"So you think someone is targeting Alison?"

Regina and Kathryn were sitting in the living room together. Regina poured tea into Kathryn's mug as she said, "More like targeting the people close to Alison. Just in case we have people watching her-."

"I don't like this," Kathryn said, nervously, "We should go get her-!"

"Kathryn, David is watching her," Regina said soothingly, "She will be fine."

Kathryn did not look appeased even as she took her mug. In fact, Kathryn hadn't been at ease since she stepped foot in her house. She had a tired expression on her face and the jitters in her form. Frowning deeply, Regina reached out to gently grasp her hand. Kathryn jumped a bit, staring up at Regina with surprised.

"Something else is bugging you," Regina said, "What is it?"

Kathryn swallowed, her eyes glassy as she remained silence. Regina was patient, waiting for her friend to take a few deep breaths. Kathryn placed her mug down on the table as Kathryn said, "I've been having… disagreements with my father."

"With Midas?" Regina said surprised, "About what?"

"He thinks that I should put distance between Alison and I," Kathryn said, tersely, "That our relationship isn't healthy for her."

"That's ridiculous," Regina said.

"That's what I said!" Kathryn said, raising her voice, "He said that she's been adopted and I shouldn't have all of these releases for her files at school and health-!"

Kathryn stopped herself, taking a few moments to catch her breath and wipe her eyes. Regina waited with a sympathetic stare. Shaking out her blonde hair, Kathryn said wearily, "Fredrick says he supports me but I can see it in his eyes that something about it he doesn't like."

"Kathryn what do you want to do?" Regina asked, gently.

"I want to continue with my life, I don't want to be giving up any relationship for just one," Kathryn said, "Especially when I have formed a close one with someone who's like a daughter to me!"

"Then don't," Regina said simply, "If people can't accept that, then that's their problem."

Kathryn smiled weakly at Regina before picking up her mug again. The two sat in silence for a while, drinking tea peacefully. Kathryn looked thoughtful before saying, "Regina…. If something did happen to me, would you promise to look after Alison?"

"Now where did that come from?" Regina said with a sigh.

"I don't know," Kathryn admitted, "I was just thinking about Granny. You never know what could happen."

"This is true," Regina said, uneasily.

"Would you? I know that's a lot to ask especially with your issues with the Golds-!"

"I promise," Regina said sincerely, "If anything happens, I'll do my best to protect her."

Kathryn sipped her tea and swallowed when she said, "Thank you."

There was a clinking of glass that made both of them freeze. They looked towards the doorway, listening intently. Silence met their ears but neither felt any better about it. Regina looked from Kathryn to the doorway with narrowed eyes. Standing up, Regina said, "Wait here."

Kathryn was about to protest but Regina didn't listen. Instead she walked out of the living room cautiously, walking around the main entrance. She heard another chink, one from the kitchen. Holding up her hand, the flames began to simmer about it. Walking cautiously towards the kitchen, Regina peered inside to see no one. Looking about, Regina said, "Come out, come out where ever you are."

There was no words that followed next.

Only a sharp sound that penetrated her brain like a knife.

"Have you found anything yet?!"

Piper grimaced as he heard Emma call out to him. He was in the front of the shop, searching through the items carefully to find any clues. Shaking his head, Piper said loudly, "Nothing yet. Funny how he didn't specify where to look in his shop."

Emma came to the front looking thoroughly harassed as she said, "I called the security company. Someone clocked in here at seven fifty six this morning. All they could tell me was that someone with a dark cloak came gliding through here."

"Did they see where he stopped?" Piper asked.

"No, the intruder spent equal amount of time at each display and table," Emma said crossly, "Chance my butt, he didn't even give us a clue as to where the next instructions would be."

"The last instructions were written and on small paper," Piper said, slowly, "That could be anywhere."

Emma sighed and began to walk around. She wandered behind the desk, pondering. Emma looked along the desk and spotted a frame. Picking it up, Emma looked to see a young girl holding and apple in her hands. It was a bright happy picture as Emma said with a weak smile, "Must have gotten a picture of little Alison from his son."

"Hmmm?" Piper said, looking over at Emma. Dawning realization came over Emma's face when she turned the picture around. Taking the frame apart, Emma wrinkled her nose as she said heatedly, "You've got to be kidding me. Sicko-!"

"What?" Piper came over as Emma pulled out a folded up piece of paper. Emma unfolded it as she said, "Found it."

Piper peaked over the shoulder reading the words written as followed:

"Patience in this case is not a virtue and neither is your discretion. In the light of your Halfhearted Attempts to thwart me out of turn, I am forced to add more directives. Not only will you play my game but you shall have some added players. Beware The spades as you race to save the damsel in distress. She'll be lost in the place where Old Magic flows if you do not stress to run. Don't stray again from the game or you shall ruin all the fun."

"This guy is psycho," Piper said taking the note as Emma pulled out her cell. Dialing quickly, Emma waited with impatience. Walking around Piper, Emma began to pace saying, "Come on Regina pick up. Pick up!"

Emma turned off the cell and shoved it in her pocket. Piper moved after her as Emma raced to the door saying, "Regina's not picking up! We need to get over to her house!"

"We don't have time for that, he's probably already got Kathryn!" Piper said alarmed.

"Well do you know what he means by Old Magic because I don't!" Emma snapped.

"Well we need to figure it out, this guy got mad because we didn't follow his directions last time," Piper said loudly but not unkindly. Emma bristled but didn't not go to leave. Piper sighed as he began to pace back and forth

"Where old magic flows," Piper said, running his hair, "flows… Where would magic flow in this town? Magic is not even supposed to be in this world."

Emma held another look of realization, "Flows. If anything had magic- Water! We've got to get to the wishing well!"

"So how long have you been a genie?"

The Genie raised his brows as he looked at Alice. She sat with her cup of tea, her skirts spread out on the beautiful satin pillows. At his expression, Alice immediately stammered over her words as she said, "I mean- unless you were born a genie. I didn't know Genie's could be born though-!"

"They can't," the Genie said warmly, "Genie's are made, not born. But that is a story I have long since forgotten. Who are you and how did you find my little lamp?"

"I was hiding," Alice said, "I made myself small with a mushroom. And I saw a light in the lamp and wanted to see inside. I didn't know it was a home."

"Most people wouldn't," the Genie mused, "But I must say, I don't think I've seen anyone with blue eyes like yours. They are pretty than the Blue Bells."

Alice made a face as he asked, "What? Have I said something?"

"No," Alice said, "I mean yes but no. I just don't like flowers. Especially those, they make an awful racket in the morning."

The Genie chuckled as he said, "Well, I just haven't seen eyes as blue as yours in thousands of years. They are quite remarkable."

"Well I thank you," Alice said blushing, "So how did you get to Wonder-!"

Alice yelped when she felt the lamp jerk as the Genie jumped to his feet. Grabbing Alice around the waist, the Genie found himself being pulled from the lamp. Alice shut her eyes tight, hugging him tight as she felt a terrible turning feeling in her tummy. Opening her one eye, she saw herself normal sized with the Genie in the maze path. Holding the lamp bottle, was Aladdin.

"Oh!" Aladdin said surprised, "How in the world did you get inside there?"

"Long story," the Genie answered for her as Alice still felt a little sick. Alice pulled away as the Genie said, "Master mine, thy will is thine-!"

"My friend," Aladdin said frantically, "Jasmine is being set to marry the Jack of Spades."

The Genie looked alarmed as Aladdin paced around. Alice regained her bearings as the Genie said, "Whatever you wish for, I will grant."

"I know, but I can't just make any wish my friend," Aladdin said, "It has to be the right one or I will never be able to set you free!"

"Aladdin," the Genie started as Alice said, "What do you mean set him free?"

The two men looked at Alice, who was looking at them curiously. Aladdin looked warily at the Genie, who gave him a nod. Aladdin said, "Genie's are trapped in lamps, forced to do the bidding of other people. I promised him that my third wish would be him setting him free from the Genie's lamp. I've already used my first wish, I must be careful what to choose with my second."

"Well," Alice said, frowning, "If you want to be able to marry Jasmine, there is only one thing to do."

"And what is that?"

"You need to be a prince."

"Why didn't you tell Grace the truth?"

Alison and Molly were skating slowly on the edges of the lake. Alison glanced over at a suspicious looking Molly before sighing. Alison said, "I think the real question would be why you keep picking on me. But if you must know, it is because I have theories as to why you torment people."

"Oh really," Molly scoffed.

"Yes," Alison said, "Anger can come from many places. One of those being from things we cannot control."

Alison swiftly pushed up Molly's sleeve to reveal bruises on her upper arms. Molly flinched, pulling her arm away instinctively. Alison did not say anything, but watched Molly with a sadness in her eyes. She half expected Molly to snap at her or push her and run but she didn't. Instead Molly stared down at the ice as she said, "I have a sister and a mom… my dad likes taking his frustrations out on us. Especially when he gets back from 'work'."

"What does he do?" Alison asked, frowning.

"Most of the time nothing," Molly said rolling her eyes before added pointedly, "Lately he's been doing something for your old man."

"Ol-Gold?" Alison asked sharply. Alison turned, stopped Molly on the ice. Molly swayed a bit, looking at Alison shrewdly. When she saw the confusion and alarm in Alison's eyes, Molly looked more surprised.

"You have no idea, do you?" Molly said, "What Gold does?"

"He keeps a lot of his deals to himself," Alison said, frowning, "Lately I haven't had to worry about the deals he makes."

"Well, not that my dad doesn't deserve someone giving him grief," Molly said stiffly, "It just so happens if someone does-!"

"It gets taken out on you or your family," Alison said, tersely, "I get it."

Molly watched Alison a moment before saying, "Gold likes you right? Do you think-?"

"I can't break the contract Gold has with him. I don't even know what it is or when Gold is getting back," Alison said, "However, I can make sure your Dad doesn't hurt anyone ever again."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah," Alison said, a little darkly, "How do you feel about him getting a taste of his own medicine?"

"You're not going to kill him are you?" Molly said warily.

"Oh no," Alison said, "I just happen to believe in Karma."

Alison skated further away from Molly saying, "I'll take care of it. You should be getting back before Grace starts wondering what it is we're doing."

Molly scoffed before skating away into the crowd. Alison was skating by herself when she heard a familiar voice.

"Odd thing, you helping Molly."

Fife skated up beside her, slowing down to her pace. Alison rolled her eyes as she said, "You're a bad eavesdropper. You couldn't have been any more obvious."

"Sorry, but I was curious as to what you were doing with Molly," Fife said, "She picks on people on a daily bases and still you help her?"

"I know what it feels like," Alison said, "I've been in her shoes, believe me."

"You didn't go beating people up though," Fife said.

"Really? My first reaction to Gage pulling my hair was punching him in the side of the face," Alison said, "That should tell you something."

"Well at least you don't go picking fights with people that don't deserve it," Fife said, wrinkling his nose, "I can remember a few face plants that she's been the cause of."

"Mhm," Alison said, "So where is Professor Avenant?"

"At home, practicing," Fife said casually, "Grumbling about how he can't get any of his work done."

"Figures," Alison said, "Shame, I would have liked to see him skating…"

Alison looked thoughtful as Fife shook his head.

"He won't do it."

"I detect a challenge there," Alison said, amused.

"I mean it, he won't!" Fife said exasperated, "It's one of those things he hasn't done since-!"

Fife stopped short as Alison looked at him curiously. Fife made a face as Alison said, "Hasn't since… what?"

"Nothing," Fife said, uncomfortably, "Not anything I'm supposed to talk about anyway."

Alison pouted, but held a look of sympathy in her eyes. They skated along in silence for a little while longer before Alison grinned mischievously. Grabbing the hat off of his head, Alison skated away quickly saying, "Too slow!"

Fife looked after her surprised before grinning wide and shouted, "Not a chance, Kinsleigh!"

"He looks happy!"

The Genie was standing up in the shadows above the court. It was Alice's usual hiding place, a rooftop over where the court member's sat. It was concealed by leaves and twisty fabric. Alice was sitting by him, watching down with happiness as Jasmine introduced to Prince Ali. Cora's face seemed emotionless, however there was a look of interest in her eyes. Jafar seemed displeased, clutching his staff tightly as he watched the Sultan take great interest in Aladdin's magic carpet. Alice had never seen anything like it either and was hoping that Aladdin would show her later. The Genie watched her happy face a few moments before looking back down saying, "Yes… he seems quite happy doesn't he."

Alice looked at her friend and looked surprised when he did not look nearly as happy. Alice reached for his hand and said, "What's wrong?"

"It's nothing for a lovely princess like yourself to get muddled up in," the Genie said evasively.

"That's silly!" Alice huffed, "That's like saying a girl can't help. What's wrong?"

The Genie watched Aladdin with downcast eyes as he said glumly, "I feel his desires changing… I'm quite afraid at this rate he will not wish me free at all."

"He has to!" Alice said, struggling to keep her voice from pitching, "He must! He promised you!"

"He wouldn't be the first."

"Well, he will be the last," Alice said stubbornly, "If he doesn't wish you free, I'll take the lamp and wish you free myself!"

"I would rather you not have to deal with the consequences of that Alice," the Genie said, shaking his head, "That would be disastrous."

"He'll do it," Alice said, upset, "He has to…"

The Genie watched her with his brown eyes as he asked, "How can such a young girl be as smart and educated as you are?"

"The Queen said I must learn," Alice said, simply, "Besides, I don't want to be a dummy. The Hatter will always tease me if I am."

"Well," the Genie said, smiling warmly, "I say he should have no reason to tease you. You are a true friend, Alice. I will never forget it."

"I hope not," Alice said, "I would be sad if you forgot me."

"I promise I will never forget," the Genie said, smiling a little more truly.

"Where will you go?"

"Home," the Genie said, "In Agrabah… I no longer any family there but Jasmine and Aladdin but after I see them married, I would like to see the world a free man."

"Where would you go first?" Alice asked eagerly.

"Mist Haven," the Genie said, "It is a world not as far away from ours. We have old portals that lead to there."

"That sounds familiar," Alice said thoughtfully, "What's there?"

"I hear there is a palace made entirely of gold," the Genie said, "Sea's that shine many colors from the mermaids that live beneath. Forests that have trees with special powers."

"It sounds wonderful!" Alice said, her eyes filled with adventure and longing. The Genie noticed as she stared down into the court, her excitement dying down as she watched the royals talk below. The Genie watched her quietly as she became entranced. The genie finally asked, "Have you ever been outside the palace walls?"

"I've been no farther than the Hatter's place," Alice said simply, "There are a couple of pretty meadows in between but the Queen doesn't like me going into the forests beyond…"

"Why?"

"The Cheshire Forest lie beyond the Hatter's House," Alice said, worried, "But between the two is a large lake. It's the largest thing I've ever seen. The only way to get around it is a small pass that runs through it. It's dangerous… what lives inside it is worse."

"What lives inside it?"

"A monster," Alice said worried, "If it draws you in, you don't come out."

"Well," Genie said, "That is a very good reason she doesn't want you going far."

"Yes," Alice said with a sigh, "But I'd like to go farther. I heard the Boiling Sea was pretty."

"Well," the Genie said, "How about I make you this promise? Once you're old enough, I will come back from my adventures. I promise I will come take you and see beyond these palace walls."

"Really?"

"Truly," Genie said feeling, "I won't let you be trapped here Alice. That I promise you."

Alice thought it was a queer statement to make. However, she smiled at him anyway and said, "I'll hold you to that promise."

The forest couldn't have been any creeper.

Piper and Emma were walking in the forest that surrounded the wishing well. There was nothing… nothing that they could see. However, the closer they got to the wishing well the more eerie the atmosphere felt. Piper was twisting the pipe around and Emma was holding out her hands. The snow crunched beneath their feet as they went up the hill. Emma swallowed as they came around a tree to see the wish well and who was by it.

Kathryn.

"Oh my god," Emma said, seeing Kathryn floating above the well. She was pale and blue in the lips. Behind her was a figured in a velvet black cloak. It was standing there, shuffling cards casually as they approached. Emma and Piper stopped after a moment, afraid to get too close.

"Let her go," Emma demanded, "Or I'll fry you were you stand."

There was a low chuckle, one that sounded like it belonged to a man. He stopped shuffling the cards before straightening up. Emma flicked her hands, light magic shooting out towards him. The magic dissipated right in front of him, as if a shield surrounded him. Emma looked alarmed as a chill entered her. It was cold, it was dark, and much to her horror it was alluring. Piper immediately stepped in front of Emma, pipe to his lips. Emma tried to move around him but Piper stopped her with a dangerous look.

"Pi-?"

"That will not work on me, dear Piper," the man sung low and it echoed the clearing, "Even though you may try. Your work is impressive, but to mine it will never be so just… die."

The man flung out his cards, all of them flying into the air. They floated and turned as the man disappeared with a swirl of his cloak. Emma swore under breath only to see cards coming to the ground and turning into men. They wore armor of the blackest night and had numbers tattooed on the side of their faces. In their hands, the held weapons with a sharp looking-

"Spades," Emma said, shortly, "More cards."

"Feast, dear peasants," the two of spades hissed, moving closer to them, "On our fury."

"Actually, she's a royal," Piper said before screeching into the pipes. Emma could not hear what he played but the sound she knew was unpleasant. The Men screamed, grabbing their ears as it left Emma the chance to blast them all away. Emma clapped her hands and swords appeared in their hands. Piper grimaced as the Knights, despite their pain, stood up straight and charged.

"Lovely," Piper said dryly, "They're persistent."

It was a nasty fight.

Emma found it hard to keep using magic, these soldiers seemed prepared for it. But Piper seemed to have done damage to them because they were not as agile as Emma thought they normally were. However it did make them frustration and out of frustration came anger…. Which made them powerful to fight.

But not impossible.

Emma flung her sword with vigor, the adrenaline rising in her blood. Piper seemed to be calmer as he struck down his opponents with skill. They continued on for what felt like hours until Emma hold pinned down the last one to the ground. Kathryn fell from the sky but Piper blew his pipes quickly. The wind circled around Kathryn as she lowered to the ground more safely. He tended to her as Emma snarled, "Who are you working for? Why are you trying to hurt Alison?!"

The seven of spades looked at her with a sneer as he said, "We serve our Master. His plans are not known by us. You will never be able to beat him…"

"Oh yeah?" Emma pressed into his wound hard, a dark look crossing her face, "Why's that?"

The man laughed hollowly as he said choking on his air, "Because you will be dead."

The man then disappeared absorbed into a card as Emma felt a blow to the back of her head. It sent her flying and spotted her vision. Piper shouted her name as one of the injured cards went to attack her. However tree branches reached out and grabbed him, pulling him away. He thrashed and struggled as Emma looked to see her savior leaning against a tree.

"Damn card players," hissed Regina, "Now to find out who-!"

There was a crack and his body tensed up. White foam appeared in his mouth before his body went limp. Bright magic surrounded him as he and all the other soldiered disappeared into cards. They fell to the ground as Regina returned the tree's to their normal positions. Walking over to Emma, she knelt down saying, "Are you alright?"

"Fine," Emma said, "What happened to you?"

"Someone… he knocked me out," Regina said, "Don't ask me how."

"Magic," Emma said, struggling to get to her feet, "Creepy magic. He used the cards to get away."

"Emma I don't think you should be standing-!"

"I'm fine," Emma said, "But Kathryn isn't. Piper how is she?"

Piper was playing a low hum on his pipes. The warm glow overtook Kathryn, returning color to her skin. She stirred as Piper said, "She's waking up."

Kathryn did stir but then jerked in Pipers arms. She began to scream and cry, causing Piper to hold onto her tightly. Kathryn began to look wildly at them as she screamed, "Get away from me! Get away!"

"Kathryn, it's alright! It's just us!" Emma said shocked.

"I don't know you!" Kathryn cried, "Please don't hurt me! Don't let him hurt me-!"

"Kathryn, no one is going to hurt you!" Emma said, shocked, "Don't you recognize us-?"

Kathryn sobbed uncontrollably and Regina waved her hand. Kathryn went limp, her sobs quieting. Emma looked at Regina alarmed as Regina looked upset.

"We need to get her to the hospital now," Regina said, her voice shaking, "We can't have her hurting herself."

"What is wrong with her?" Emma asked as Piper and Regina exchanged dark looks. Regina sighed as she said, "I will explain later. For now, we need to leave."

"Alice! Genie!"

Alice looked up from her book to see Aladdin running to her. Alice was sitting with the Genie under her secret spot in the maze. A large Willow tree blocked them from view, allowing them to play without question as to who the genie was. It had been a few weeks since Aladdin had wish to be Prince. It had become a regular occurrence for Aladdin and Jasmine to join her at this time. However Aladdin dark skin looked ashen and Jasmine was nowhere to be seen.

"What is it?" Alice asked, "What's wrong?"

"Jasmine has been kidnapped," Aladdin said, "By Jafar no less!"

"Oh no," Alice said as the Genie jumped to his face.

"Where are they? Did the Sultan send out troops?"

"He did," Aladdin said trembling, "But they failed. Jafar send word, saying that the only way he would tell them where they are is if I go. The Queen and the Sultan… to prove myself, they want me to go rescue her! They will chop off my head if I fail!"

Alice began to shiver, horrified as to what she heard. Aladdin looked at the Genie filled with regret, his trembling form enough for the Genie to speak.

"You need the third wish."

"NO!" Alice jumped to her feet and grabbed the lamp. Aladdin looked at her heartbroken and desperate as the Genie looked sad. "No. You promised to use it to free him!"

"But Jafar knows about that lamp," Aladdin said upset, "He's been after me about it since day one. If I use the wish, he'll know the lamp is useless! Who knows what he'll do to Jasmine."

"Then don't wish anything!" Alice said, quickly, "Just give me time…"

Alice walked through the Willow vines as Aladdin followed her quickly saying, "Give time for what? Jasmine could be killed!"

"She won't, he needs this!" Alice snapped, "Just trust me. I think I know a way to get Jasmine back!"

The man grumbled as he put the drink to his mouth.

He was sitting in the small kitchen, the only one at the table. He was the only one there as the woman put a plate in front of him saying, "Here is your dinner dear."

"You're late," the man growled, slamming his hand on the table, "I've been waiting for ten minutes!"

"I'm sorry," his wife said, adjusting the cardigan that was over her shrubs, "We had a few patients that needed-!"

"I don't care!" the man flung his arm out, hitting her in the side of the face. The woman recoiled, holding onto the side of her face. The man didn't care as he said, "Get lost. Go back to work or whatever. I'll eat alone."

Tears filled the woman's eyes as she hurried away from him. He scoffed as he said, "Ungrateful wench. For all that I do-!"

"For all that you do?"

The man jumped, looking around to find he was alone. However he knew he wasn't. Grabbing the knife, he said, "Get out of my house. Or I'll run you through."

"Oh really?"

The man yelped when he felt the air leave his lungs. The world whirled around him until her found himself hanging upside down on a tree branch that hung over the side of the cliff.

"Oi!" the man yelled, fear entering his voice, "Get me down from here!"

"Oh I will do just that," the White Rabbit said smoothly, "If you don't give me the answers I'm looking for."

The man yelped as the tree branch cracked and lowered. The White Rabbit clucked his tongue as he said silkily, "Men like you are so…. Worthless. Abusing the ones that you are supposed to treasure more than life, taking frustrations out on others… I really should just let you fall."

"Please!" the man cried out as the branch cracked more, "What do you want from me!"

"Information," White Rabbit said smoothly, "What work are you doing for Gold?"

"I-I'm building him something!"

"What is this something?"

"A vault!" cried the man, "A vault to contain powerful magic!"

"What kind of magic?" White Rabbit asked sharply.

"I don't know he wouldn't tell me," cried the man, "Please let me go! I'm not allowed to say anything more!"

"I will," White Rabbit said, pulling out a white rose, "But first I need to assure that you will not hurt your family ever again."

"So you've come."

Jafar was standing in a long hall. It was in an abandoned castle, the roof long since gone. The walls were crumbling and the windows broken. Aladdin stood near the doorway, his garb that of a warrior. Aladdin looked around desperately as he finally saw where Jafar was keeping Jasmine. She was trapped in the largest hourglass he had ever seen. Sand was pouring down, trapping her inside. She looked at him tearfully as Jafar sat in his throne. Twirling the staff, Jafar said, "Did you bring it, Prince Ali?"

Aladdin walked forward and Jafar tapped the staff against the ground. The eyes of the staff glowed as Aladdin stopped walking forward. Jafar smirked as he said, "Now, now. I wouldn't having you attack me. Show me the lamp."

Aladdin glanced at Jasmine nervously before pulling out the lamp. A greedy look overcame Jafar's face as he said, "Beautiful… bring it to me."

"Free Jasmine first," Aladdin said bravely.

"No, no," Jafar clucked his tongue, "I want the lamp. Give me the lamp and I will let you both go."

Aladdin hesitated before walking forward with the lamp. His heart was thumping, afraid of the man before him. However, the fact Jasmine was in danger made him walk as he came before Jafar and put the lamp on the ground. Aladdin backed away and said, "Let Jasmine go."

"Oh I will," Jafar said, standing up and walking down the steps from the throne to where the lamp was, "I will let you both go… to the Afterlife!"

Jafar went to slam his staff down when something unexpected happened.

"OUT OF THE WAY LADDIE!"

Aladdin ducked just as something large flew over him. It slammed into the hour glass, sending glass and sand everywhere. Whatever broke the hour glass flew at Jafar, sending him straight into a wall. That whatever just so happen to be the March Hare, jumping around the room until he disappeared out the door. Jafar growled as he said, "Genie! I command you to come out!"

"That is not how it works."

Jafar looked up to see the Genie standing there with a passive expression on his face.

"Only the person who has rubbed the lamp can use it," the Genie said smoothly, "And that person has one more wish to make."

"Then I will make him use it!" Jafar said, slashing out his staff. Aladdin gasped, writhing on the ground as Jasmine struggled to get out of the mess of sand. The Genie looked angered but did not move as Aladdin choked on the ground. Jafar looked manic as he shouted, "MAKE YOUR WISH!"

"As you wish."

Jafar looked wildly to see Alice standing not too far away. She held a little wish in her hand, glowing red and bright as she said, "I wish for Jafar to become the Genie of the lamp that he holds."

"No-!" Jafar's screams echoed as the bracelets on the Genie's hands disappeared and reappeared on Jafar's. The screams faded as he was pulled back into the lamp and Alice watched it fall to the ground along with his staff. The hall went silent, the spell over Aladdin disappearing. Alice stared at the lamp intently as the Genie and Jasmine made their way over to Aladdin. Alice walked over to the items and glanced at the group quickly. Waving her hand, the staff disappeared in a shimmer and Alice carefully picked up the lamp. Walking over to the group, Alice's face became concerned as she asked, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Aladdin coughed, "It worked."

"Thank heavens," Jasmine said weakly, "But Alice… surely the Queen did not send you."

"In a way," Alice said, "Remember, I was to keep you happy and entertain. None of this was either."

"But-!"

"Don't worry my love," Aladdin said, "You are safe."

"And you are free," Alice said, cheerfully to the Genie. The Genie was now looking down at his hands, tears welling in his eyes. Alice smile was understanding as he said, "Yes… Yes I'm free! Much thanks to you!"

Alice squeaked as she was swept up into a hug. She almost dropped the lamp as she laughed loudly. Jasmine laughed as Aladdin chuckled. Alice hugged her friend as she said, "You are very welcome."

"What will you do with the lamp?" Jasmine asked as Alice was put down. She looked at it thoughtfully and said to Jasmine, "I think I have just the safe place to put it that no one will dare try and steal it."

"So he was using the Spades of Cards?"

Emma and Alison were sitting in the hospital, Alison flipping through the cards in hand. They all had x's through them and Alison's face was troubled. Alison looked up at Emma and asked, "Did you see his face? Anything?"

"No, not a thing," Emma said mournfully, "The only thing was that his singing was… creepy and attention grabbing. I can't even describe it."

"Male," Alison's furrowing he brows in confusion, "I don't understand, these are the Queen's cards. The Queen of Hearts is the only one that would use them!"

"Maybe someone stole them after she kicked the bucket," Emma said wearily, "I'm sorry kid I wish I had more answers."

"I may provide some."

Piper sat down across from them as they both looked over. Piper sighed, turning his coffee in his hand as he said, "I heard of him. He was well known in the Enchanted Forest as a man to fear. A man that use the Power of Music to do terrible horrible things. They say he had the voice of an angel but the soul of the devil. He could manipulate anyone and anything he wanted."

"You think this is that man?" Emma asked.

"I feel like it is," Piper said, "I studied the notes. Remember the strange grammar mistakes? Well with it I was able to derive the name this man goes by: Phantom."

"Phantom," Emma said, frowning.

"It makes sense," Alison said thoughtfully and quietly, "I mean… it would explain how he could manipulate the cards…"

Alison trailed off, her eyes going glassy. Trembling, Alison handed the cards back to Emma. Emma took them and exchanged a look with Piper. He shrugged, his face filled with sympathy and sadness. Emma turned her attention back to Alison and said, "So I saw Midas come over and talk to you. Any news on Kathryn?"

Tears slipped down Alison's cheek as she said, "She's not well. She doesn't remember anything from the curse to now. Midas brought me in to see her and she lost it. We decided it was best if I don't see her for while…"

"Kid," Emma said, her heart falling. A nurse came over and said, "Miss. Kinsleigh? Ms. Lucas wishes to see you now."

Alison nodded and got up saying, "You'd think I'd be used to this stuff by now…"

Emma reached to stop her only for Alison to briskly walk away with the nurse. Emma slammed her hands down angrily saying, "Damn it! Why?! Just why!"

Alison walked into the hospital room to see Granny laying there. Ruby was by her side, tears running down her face. August was near her as he rubbed her back comfortingly. Granny had never looked so frail and it made Alison shiver. Swallowing, Alison walked over to the bed quietly. Granny looked over at Ruby and said, "Please… I need to talk to Alison alone."

"Granny," whimpered Ruby, tearful only for Granny to shake her head. August reluctantly pulled Ruby away, leading her just outside the room. Alison sat down, staring at Granny glassy eyed.

"Granny," Alison asked, timidly, "Are you dying?"

Granny let tears come to her own eyes, looking rather ashamed. Alison lost it, tears falling before she could even stop them. Granny reached for her hands and said, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I won't be able to protect you anymore. I wish my heart was stronger… but after this morning…"

"I'm sorry," Alison cried, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault!"

Alison allowed Granny to pull her into a hug. Granny stroked her hair shakily as she said, "This is not your fault. It will never be your fault. What happened to Kathryn and I will never be because of you."

Granny allowed Alison to sit up. Alison looked at her with eyes filled with fear as Granny said, "It doesn't matter what someone else's cruelty did to me. You will always be my Hero. I will be proud to watch wherever I may go as you grow up to be a Good Queen."

Alison wiped tears even as they kept falling as she sniffed deep. Shaking her head, Alison said, "I am not a Good Queen. I can't-!"

"You will," Granny said, letting her shaking hands fall onto Alison's. Color slowly left her face which frightened Alison more. She watched Alison with glassy eyes as she said, "And I will always be proud… always be watching….always love you…"

The monitor let out a solid, almost never ending beep. It rang in Alison's ears as she watched the light leave Granny's eyes, never to return. Alison backed away from Granny shaking as nurses rushed in. August came back in, pulling Alison out and away. Alison shook as August moved to pull her in. Alison jumped away saying, "No! Stay away!"

"Alison!" August cried as Alison sped off. Her blood pounded in her ears as she ran almost blindly. The wintery world passed by in a blur until she found herself in front of the Guardians Tree. In her grief, blood boiled as she watched it.

"WHY?!" Alison screamed, "WHY DID YOU PICK ME?! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO PICK ME!"

"Alice."

His voice was so calm it angered her.

Jack stood in front of her, staring sadly at her. Alison stared at him indignantly as Jack said sadly, "I'm sorry… If I could have done something I would have."

"Why did you pick me?" Alison sniffled, "Why?"

"We didn't," Jack said remorsefully, "Only one of us did… and it was before she was as she is."

"Stop being cryptic," Alison said, angrily.

"A child with the fairest heart was to be chosen to be the Last Mage of Wonderland," Jack said softly, "That led Aislinn to you."

"But why?"

Jack grimaced and said, "For you to know what your Fate is, You and Emma and Regina must seek the answers from the source of the Information."

"I'm not running around and letting more people die because of me!" screamed Alison, "Stop using me like a puppet!"

Alison went to strike him, only for him to disappear in snowflakes. Alison cried as she fell, yelling for him to return. But he did not. Instead, only a pair of arms circled her waist. Alison turned to see Chess watching her with devastation in his eyes.

"Please," Chess said, upset.

Alison let a scream of frustration, smacking Chess on the chest before letting him crush her into a hug. He stroked her hair, whispering sweet gentle soothing into her ear. Chess was quiet for a while after, allowing her to cry for some time. Finally, Chess said, "My love, the Guardians don't relish in our pain. They are simply unable to stop it."

"Why?" Alison said, feeling pure raw emotion ripping through her heart violently.

"Alison," Chess said gently, "We all go through pain. Pain is a terrible tragedy of life but it is important. It helps us grow and to strength our hearts so we can help others later on."

The anger and irritation left Alison's face as she watched Chess stared at her. His looked was understanding and loving. It made her already raw heart swell with something she didn't think possible. Chess stroked away her tears as he said, playfully, "No more tears. This lovely little face of yours will keep freezing if you keep crying."

An unexplainable laugh left Alison's mouth as she allowed his forehead to rest on hers. His nose touched hers as he said, "It's much nicer to cry where it's warm anyway."

"I am warm." The words left Alison's mouth before she could even stop them. Her own heart almost stopped, his eyes momentarily piercing hers. However he rolled his eyes and said, "You hardly feel warm, love. Let's get inside before we both catch terrible colds."

Alison swallowed, nodding her head as he broke away only to take her hand and lead her back to the hospital where her entire life had begun to unravel.

"Will I see you again soon?"

Jasmine, Aladdin, and the Genie were standing near Alice. They were at the edge of the gardens, the servants awaiting them. The Sultan watched from his seat in his own carriage of sorts with a warm smile on his face. Jasmine was tearful as she watched her young friend shrug.

"If you come back to visit," Alice said, "Or if Her Majesty takes me to see you."

"We shall invite you to the wedding," Jasmine said reassuringly, "I hope you both will come."

"If she lets me," Alice said as Jasmine hugged her, "I'll send letters!"

"And we will also," Aladdin said, "We can't thank you enough for your bravery and kindness."

"You're my friends," Alice said, "It was the right thing to do. Goodbye."

The couples left Alice and the Genie alone. They watched each other a moment. So far apart in age and yet both had found a friendship in the other that they hoped they would never forget. Alice finally asked, "You will remember your promise?"

"Always," the Genie said, "I could never forget."

Alice smiled truly as she said, "Then I guess this is goodbye?"

"For now," the Genie said, "The next time I see you, I hope to see the ruler you will make."

"Hopefully a good one," Alice said, "After all, I have a good teacher."

The Genie smile weakened a moment, as if he knew something she didn't. However he pulled her into a hug whispering, "Farewell Alice."

Alice swallowed before saying politely, "Goodbye… you know. I don't think you ever told me what your name was?"

The Genie smiled as he said, "Rafi. My name is Rafi."

Alice smiled warmly as she said, "Well Rafi… be safe…"

Rafi finally parted and he went back to the others. They departed in their carriages, riding away from the castle. Alice curtsied before turning around and walking away. The smile from her face died as she got closer to the castle and then the throne room. In fact, any joy, sadness, any emotion that she had vanished. All that was left was a cold blankness that one would be shocked to see. Entering the throne room, she found the Queen of Hearts and her snobby yet loyal Knave.

"You've disappointed the Queen, Alice!" snarled the Knave, "You ruined the plan!"

The young girl curtsied and The Queen said in an authoritative, cold voice, "Rise."

Alice did so as she stared ahead with the same cold blankness. Cora narrowed her eyes as she said, "I'm surprised with you. You have never interfered in such a manner before. Now the Genie is lost and my plan failed."

"I beg your pardon Majesty," Alice said simply, "But I'm afraid that is not true."

Alice clapped her hands and the staff appeared. It stood all by itself, the serpents head staring Cora in the face. Cora gasped as the Knave's face grew red. She stood up, waving the Knave away without another word. The Knave shot Alice a nasty look before running off. Alice paid him no mind, but instead looked at Cora patiently.

"How did you know?"

"I heard you," Alice said, calculatively, "While I was falling asleep. I knew you wanted me to befriend them and I knew you needed to get something. I didn't know what it really was you were looking for until I found the lamp. I realized after Jafar tried making a deal with that ridiculous imp that you were both after the genie. You wanted it as leverage and he wanted to use it. I assumed that it was the staff you wanted since you didn't want to marry the Jack of Spades off to the princess. So when Jafar kidnapped Jasmine, I used the opportunity to snag both. The Lamp is currently in your vault."

"Oh Alice," Cora said, touching the staff, "You have no idea how happy it makes me… to think that you could come up with that by yourself."

"I'm good with stringing puzzles together," Alice said and after a moment wrinkled her nose, "I hope that man doesn't come looking for them. The one with the dark magic…"

"He won't dare," Cora said, "And even if he does, it won't matter. The staff will be out of his possession."

"Good," Alice said, "I don't like him."

"Oh?" Cora made the staff disappear as she went to go sit back on her throne. She looked queerly at Alice as she asked, "Why?"

"He's not nice," Alice said, "He doesn't like you and I hate to know what he wants with those things."

"You need not worry," Cora said sweetly, "He won't get them, thanks to you. Perhaps I may have more use for your skills than I originally thought."

Alice smiled pridefully, any ounce of kindness disappearing from her eyes. Cora waved her hand as she said, "Now run along and play at the Hatters. You have made me ever so proud."

Alice inclined her head and curtsied deep. Alice left the Queen alone to ponder her thoughts. The Queen smiled nostalgically as she said, "Stringing things together seems to be a family trait… What I wouldn't have given for you to have been ours."

"I'm sorry for your losses."

Alison looked up from the piano to see Avenant watching her intently. They were in the practice room and he was leaning against his desk. Alison had just sat down at the piano, looking rather tired. Getting up from his spot, Avenant walked over to her as she mumbled, "As am I."

"I knew you and Granny were close," Avenant said softly, "As well as you and Kathryn. Who is taking care of you now?"

"I'm at the Charmings for now," Alison said, shrugging, "Emma and Henry are at Pipers…"

Avenant watched her for a moment longer before sitting down next to her saying, "It feels like the air is getting suck from your lungs. Doesn't it? Your heart feeling raw and ripped open."

Alison looked surprised as Avenant said, "I've known loss. It is a painful thing… it's what you do with that pain that matters."

"Is this where you are going to tell me that I should focus my energies into playing music?" Alison asked a little warily.

"This is where I cut you slack," Avenant said gently, "And play for you for once."

Avenant and Alison adjusted on the piano bench as Alison watched him curiously.

"Who did you lose?"

Avenant looked at her with his brown eyes as he said something that surprise even Alison.

"My wife."

Avenant reached out and played the piano softly. The music lulling and eerie. Alison couldn't help but watch how he played. The song, his movements, everything was drawing her into the sound he was creating. Avenant glanced over as he saw something in her eyes change. A strange glow appeared in them before it faded. Avenant let a shadow of a smirk lay on his face before he forced it to disappear. He stopped playing and Alison kept staring off into the distance.

"Alison," Avenant asked, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah," Alison said drowsily, "I'm fine…"

"Why don't you take today off," Avenant advised. Alison nodded before getting up to walk away. Stopping by the door, Alison asked, "What was that song?"

"It was a song from the musical Svengali," Avenant said, "I didn't want to bore you with the Nutcracker for the umpteenth time."

Alison chuckled before leaving him alone. She made her way down the hallway filled with students and was jolted went someone shoved her shoulder.

"Move it Kinsleigh!" Molly mocked, walking past her. Alison watched after her as Molly glanced back with a sincere smile. Alison couldn't help but smile even as Fife came up beside her and said, "Still the same old Molly."

"Yeah," Alison said, smiling, "Same old Molly."

Fife looked at her warily, "Are you alright?"

"No," Alison said, her eyes fogging over again, "But I will be."

"What a cruel man you are."

Avenant was sitting across from Cora, a set of cards in her hand. Avenant had his own, studying them intently. Pulling two cards, he slid them towards the deck of cards as he said, "Now what could you be referring to, You're Majesty."

"You know exactly what I'm talking about," Cora said taking the two and placing them at the discard pile. Avenant took two more and added to his own as she continued, "What you did to Granny and Kathryn was inspiring."

"Hmph." Avenant shuffled his cards around as she said, "Now, I thought we weren't trying to drag attention back to us? So why use that lovely Musical Magic of yours? Won't they be knocking on your door soon?"

"I hope they do," Avenant said patiently, "It is part of my plan."

"Well I hope you know that no matter how you repress your magic, magic cores can always be traced," Cora taunted as she fanned herself lightly with the cards.

"What wasn't according to plan was the old woman dying," Avenant said shortly, "I hurt her only to incapacitate her, not to kill her."

Avenant looked up at Cora intently as he said, "I sincerely hope you didn't have something to do with that."

"Oh dear," Cora said, "You actually think I'd let the old woman die."

"She did die," Avenant said shortly, "The very upset little girl that was in my rehearsal indicated as much."

"Oh Professor," Cora said, standing up and placing her cards down, "You really should know by now that I am never that careless."

Walking over to a trap door in the corner, Cora opened it up. Avenant frowned and got up to follow her. Staring down into the trap door, Avenant was surprised to see that something was indeed chained up.

A wolf to be more precise.

"No," Avenant said, almost impressed, "Did you really?"

"True, the old woman's heart did stop," Cora waved, "The poison I put in her tea was designed to do so. However, after they took her to the morgue, I revived and transformed her."

"So then who did they bury?" Avenant asked surprised.

"How should I know? I don't know anyone in this town," Cora said indignantly, "The important thing was to hurt Alison deeply."

There was a snarl as the wolf began to thrash around. She growled up at them as they watched her do so. Avenant was quiet as Cora said, "Now we have another advantage, should we ever need it."

Avenant smirked wickedly as he said, "Well, I must say… Working with you is going to be intriguing."

"Likewise," Cora said before turning around to walk back to the table. Avenant looked down to see the wolf growling at him. Sneering at her, Avenant shut the trap door. The wolf let out a whimperish growl, alone in the dark. What would they use her for?

Only Time would tell.

Regina heard a light sound.

She almost didn't hear it from the kitchen. The smells in the room were sweet with a kick of spice. Her apron covered her tee shirt and black pants. Her hair was tied back in a twist. A few strands fell around her flushed face as she stared towards the doorway. Only the sounds of the sizzling pan filled her ears as she looked on. Perhaps she was hearing things.

Another harder knock told her she was wrong.

Regina hurried over out of the kitchen. She walked through the dining room and towards the door. Who could it be? Henry was with his parents and anyone else would call. Reaching the door, Regina opened it to see her visitor.

"Hey," Alison said, shifting her backpack on her shoulder.

"Hello," Regina said, awkwardly, "What are you doing out?"

"I-I," Alison looked at Regina with glassy eyes. The snow falling around her seemed to make her more pale that Regina was comfortable with, "I don't want to go back to the house."

Regina's eyes softened as her heart melted. Here was the adopted child of Rumpelstiltskin was standing at her door with bags in hand asking her to stay. Alison trembled a bit, waiting for an answer. Regina shifted before asking, "What does August say about this?"

"He doesn't care," Alison said, "I mean, he cares. But-."

"I understand," Regina said, crossing her arms, "Have you eaten?"

"No," Alison said.

"Then how about you go put your stuff upstairs and we'll have some dinner," Regina suggested, stepping aside so Alison could come inside. Alison gave a meek smile before walking inside. Regina closed the door, hearing Alison hurry up the stairs. Regina couldn't help but smile after her. She knew the circumstances weren't ideal and that there was probably going to be a lot of hiccups along the way. But Regina couldn't help but smile. Something deep down in side felt warm.

Something that made her feel whole.

Something she was sure was going to cause problems once a certain imp returned.
