A/N: This is just an awfully short drabble sad fluffy fic of Zack and Maddie. I heard this song, watched Prom Story, and I just had to write this. Review please. Thank you to the lovely Nikpik for kindly helping me beta this.

Disclaimer: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and its cast are not mine. Neither is Maria Wilson's 'End The Dance'.

"So now I'm hoping that when we meet on the dance floor, everything will just fall into place."

Pop your elbow, like a light little feather.

Step back.

Step forward.

Step back.

Step forward.

Together.

Apart.

Run.

Dip.

"That may be the most wonderful thing any boy…man has ever said to me," Maddie said, her eyes twinkling with emotion. How could a twelve-year-old boy make her melt with just the simplest words?

"So does that mean you'll go to my prom?" Excitement filled his voice, his eyes full of hope.

"I'll tell you what, I'll dance with you at your prom, if you dance with me at mine."

"Really?"

"Come on," Maddie said as she took Zack's hand in hers, walking towards the dance floor.

Should I try to make you stay?

Will it always end this way?

Do we meet inside your mind,

Or do you walk one step behind?

The green dance light shined on Maddie, illuminating her. My god, she's beautiful, Zack thought. Acting suave, he said to her, "May I have this dance?"

She accepts his offered hand, and the space between them grows smaller. Her hand gently rests on his shoulder, as they sway from side to side.

Where's the love

It's always in your hand

I'll make you understand

This feels so right. Her eyes fluttered closed as they spun in a circle. Dipping her back, he looks upon her, wishing he was born 3 years earlier.

The white spotlight shines on them. And they drown out the rest of the world, losing themselves in the song. Losing themselves in the moment, gazing into each other's eyes.

Anyone who shared the dance would know

We belong together

Even if there's half a chance, don't go

We'll go on forever

She smiles delightfully as he snaps his fingers. He lifts his head, staring into her chocolate brown eyes. And for a moment, the world stops spinning.

Holding on

I can't believe it's wrong

We must take this chance

Or we must end the dance

We must end the dance

He wished they could be together like this. But he knew that Maddie wasn't ready. She wasn't ready to accept him. But he would wait. He would wait for the rest of his life, if that was what it took. This dance just felt so right. It felt so perfect to be close with her, with his arm curled around her waist. And her hand grasped tightly in his other hand, their fingers intertwined.

Is the music all you hear,

Or do you feel me moving near?

He curled his hand around her waist tighter, not wanting this to end.

Is it easier,

If I'm not there?

Or can emotion make you care?

I believe, it's over when you leave

Let love make us start

Or fall apart

Zack wished for them to be together forever. He wished for a fairytale. He wished for a miracle. He wished he were older. He wished he had her.

I know that we could dance our lives away if you would stay

I know that we could dance our lives away if you would stay

Can we dance, can we dance our lives away?

Can we dance, can we dance our lives away?

I know that we could dance our lives away if you would stay…

The music stopped and Maddie withdrew her hand from his shoulder. Their fingers separated, no longer intertwined. Zack's heart sank like a dead weight. He wished they could dance forever.

End.
