DISCLAIMER:
I do not own any of the characters, Marvel does. No characters in this story are original but portrayals of how I see them.
PRE-NOTE:
This story takes place after 'Chili-Cheese Fries' but before 'The Decision'. Sorry for any confusion, and please be aware that it is not quite in the same style as those because it's been so long since I wrote them. But it's fun and that's what I wanted.
Needs Must
by Dizi
Window shopping at the mall has become our favorite past-time. Truly, it has been the child's from before Logan took her under his wing. However, I must admit she has corrupted me. As long as I bring only twenty dollars for snacks and leave the credit cards behind, we have fun. Unless it is not my credit cards.
Getting someone else to provide theirs has become a challenge. One Jubilee has more than risen to. I feel secure because I have not encouraged her in this, only benefitted from it.
However, I must admit, watching her con someone into giving up that which we both want has almost become more amusing than the actual trip to the mall.
At least for me.
Jubilee sighed pitifully.
"What's wrong with ya?" Logan grumbled. It had not escaped his notice she had not brought him a beer like she usually did before plopping down beside him on the couch.
"Nothing." She said it in a normal tone.
He eyed her suspiciously, but took her word for it. Not that he believed her but knew her well enough not to try and pry it out of her. So he continued watching his favoite John Wayne WWII movie.
Until she sighed again.
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, he paused the movie. "What's wrong? And don't say 'nothin'."
"I'm bored."
"Go ta the mall. That's what ya usually do, ain't it?"
"No money." It wasn't an accusation, only a matter of fact statement.
"Get yer skates an' go on outside then."
"Can't. The strap on my kneepad broke. I could, like, tear the skin off without it." Jubilee didn't even try to resist rolling her eyes. "Everybody in this place would totally freak, dude."
"Oh." Looking back and forth from the paused screen to her big-blue eyes watching him expectantly, Logan contemplated how long it would take her to make another of those little noises and interrupt it again. "Why doncha go clean yer room or somethin'?"
"Dude, get real." Jubilee wrinkled her nose.
"Yeah, that's what I though ya'd say." This time it was he who sighed while reaching into his pocket. He pulled a shiny silver cardout of his wallet and held it out to her without a word.
Squealing in delight so loud his ears rang, she threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. "Thanks, Wolvie!"
"Yeah, yeah. Now go away an' let me watch the Duke."
He watched her walk out the room with exaggeratingly careful steps to show she was being quiet and knew he'd been had. Not that it took much. The kid knew when to play him.
Once out of the rec-room, Jubilee waved the card in the air in front of her. "Told ya. Chili-cheese fries, here we come."
From her position leaning against the wall right ouside the doorway, Ororo smiled indulgently. "I never doubted you, Jubilation. And you will get those new kneepads, correct?"
She put on her most innocent expression. "Of course I will. Like, safety first and all that."
"A noble sentiment." Ororo added to her self, 'Needs must. And once again our shopping need is fulfilled.'
