Prehistoric Preparation

Vikki was sleeping within her newly made shelter near the rocky wall within the small grazing area that offered a fresh water source and a food supply of fish within the lake and coconuts in the tree's.

Rays of sunlight penetrated the shelter shooting int her closed eyes as she murmured before she started to wake. She slowly opened her eyes shutting them again from the bright sun rays turning over before sitting.

She yawned loudly as took a moment to let her arms get some feeling back in them as she was laying on them to provide herself some comfort when she retired into her shelter overnight after she finished with her dinner.

Once she had a better feeling in her arms she stretched them out cracking her bones and rubbed her eyes.

"Not exactly a barracks bunk. Even those are more comfortable." She grumbled as she curled her legs on the ground sitting up better and took a couple of minutes to regain herself. It was not too difficult to sleep on the ground as it was rather smooth and didn't have anything poking in her back and thankfully barely an insect to bother her.

Once she felt she was awake enough she carefully poked her head out from the entry way to her shelter to look to see if anything was around. She heard the screeching of the pterodactyls that occasionally flew over the lake. At the lake itself for now it was clear of any dinosaurs and the only animal there was few birds that were swimming about in it or standing close at the water's edge to get a drink of water.

Seeing that she was safe for now Vikki climbed out from her tiny shelter and stood up letting her body wake up from the apparent good nights rest. "Don't know if every night will be like that?" Vikki doubted out loud.

She looked up into the sky to see the sun was already over the horizon showing she had slept in for a bit. She looked at her fire pit that was extinguished as she left it after she finished her meal the previous night.

Her stomach grumbled. "Guess a quick coconut would do for now." She guessed as she gathered the spear she made for fishing going to one of the tree's where she spotted a group of coconuts up in the middle of the palm.

Vikki raised her spear and aimed it at one coconut. She threw it as straight as she could and with as much strength as she could put into it. She managed to succeed in grazing the coconut causing it to shift and drop down to the ground along with the spear that didn't end up lodged enough in the tree as it fell next to the coconut in front of the green haired woman.

"Well that was a success." She chuckled gathering her spear and the coconut and headed back to the fire pit. Using a rock, she smashed open one end of the coconut and eagerly drank the milky water within. It was bit of a horrid taste but as she was taught in the military one cannot be picky when it came to survival sometimes one has to make do with something that would smell or even taste terrible if they wanted the necessary nutrients to sustain themselves in a territory where supplies were limited if not any at all.

She then smashed the green coconut breaking it into pieces and ate the interior of the pieces she broke. "Not exactly a meal from the Mess Hall." She sighed as eating like this will certainly weigh her down slightly.

After she finished with the last edible piece she sat down looking around keeping alert that danger could come from anywhere. She put a finger under her chin wondering what should be the next step she should take.

"Well I am trapped here in this world and presumably for good unless I can find another portal. I am not going to believe that the one, Bridgette destroyed was the only of it." Vikki claimed with hope. She could not give into despair as that is the step to leading into one's death. She had been in many tight spots before but nothing like this magnitude.

A lot of times even when she was captured she never worried about being hurt as she was a valuable prisoner who had intel to share if she was forced to give it though what she gave was false to protect her people and she knew how to manipulate others to keeping her alive and unharmed for their own reasons. But this time this was far worse.

She knew there was no chance of rescue. No one knew where she was and in a world that has never been discovered except by her enemy and undocumented it would take years before anyone would get a clue about her whereabouts. She was on her own and she had to do something.

Vikki grabbed her spear and settled it over her lap as she tapped on it thoughtfully. "I'm going to need more than one lousy spear. Who knows what I am going to encounter out here."

Soon a thought came to her mind. If or when she would have to defend herself or engage something she didn't want to have to do it close up. She would prefer to shoot it. Obviously, she would not have any acquisition to firearms in this primitive world but there was another way she could shoot something.

"That's it! I need to make a bow!" She stated snapping her fingers as the idea was good. Now there was the matter of how to make a bow.

Standing up with her spear she looked at the nearby palm trees. There was nothing on them that would be suited to make a bow with. Vikki then looked at the path through the tiny canyon where she followed the herd of stegosaurus there were some woods and some hills around the area. A good place to gather some materials and get a look at the land.

"I believe the choices I have are vastly limited here." She sighed in disappointment. If she wanted something she would have to brave the grounds where many animals tend to be around at. She gripped her spear tightly as she headed for the path that she came in from and moved quickly as that path had nothing to hide in if she spotted anything that would be dangerous.

She made her way up the path spotting familiar ground. She saw the great lake in the distance with the mountains and seeing many dinosaurs grazing about in the lakes edge or in it itself. It was still quite the extraordinary sight. Vikki couldn't help but stop for a moment taking another look admiring the prehistoric animals going about the way nature intended them out to be.

"If or should I say when I get out of here no one will believe this tale for sure." Vikki mumbled as without any documented prove one will not believe that dinosaurs exist in another world. As a reporter she would have to video or at least photos of the encounter for the public to believe it.

She saw the woods she came through the other day and then saw a great hill just through it. She wanted to get the materials needed and get back to the ground that for the time being was safe but other than needing to build up something better for defense she had to see as much of the land as she could.

Keeping her spear close just in case she carefully headed through the forest keeping a sharp eye out for anything. The Roars and screeches were constant some were more closer than others. Dinosaurs certainly ruled over this world and they were both fascinating if not menacing as she had yet to encounter the ones that were presumably dangerous.

Vikki made through a part of the forest making it for the hill that was a bit steep, but she would be able to climb the grassy mounds. Her feet pricked a little as she had to walk bare as she was left in when she was captured and forced into the outfit she was wearing.

"Boy would I have killed for shoes." She growled as she stepped up the hill planting the spear down in front of her each time she took a step up to keep herself steady and prevent from falling back.

She continued to haul herself up the hill slipping a couple of times but with her spear in hand planted on the ground she managed to catch herself continuing up until she made it to the top of the hill.

"Oh, wow!" She beamed as she had a good view of the land now. Stretching out into the horizon in all directions she could see at least a couple miles from where she stood. She could see more jungles. She made out a couple of valleys and plateaus among many rivers. There were a few mountains in part of the region she was looking at one mountain was smoking from the top indicating it was a volcano and an active one. But thankfully it was so far in the distance even if it exploded any fallout from it would not reach to where, Vikki's camp lied.

"Boy do I wish I actually found this place on my own free will! This would make the story of the century!" She smiled as she lifted her hand over her eyes as the sun was shining brightly and the humidity was getting rather high.

"Better stay focused!" She told herself as she narrowed her eyes about the land. She hoped that by a miracle she would see a portal but no matter where she looked there was nothing that showed any sign of an active portal. There was nothing but wandering dinosaurs of various species all going about their natural ways and the weather itself was clear and rather hot.

Wiping some sweat off her forehead Vikki looked to the other of the hill and looked down to see skeletal remains of a dinosaur. There was no meat upon it showing its been deceased for some time. Long enough to become nothing but boney remains.

Seeing there were no dinosaurs around the remains Vikki decided to take a closer look. Getting her spear, she headed down the hill this time the journey down it was much faster as she almost toppled her over almost running down it. She made it to the remains and looked it over.

"Hmm? This is quite something." She awed at the sight of the bones as she looked around it as the bones laid scattered across the ground but then she saw a bone that was slightly curved downwards at both ends.

Vikki set down her spear and picked up the bone. She inspected it feeling over it seeing that the bone was very well solid still. The Curved ends were in good shape as well. She tried to bend the bone, but it was useless as she couldn't break it with her own strength.

"I think I may have found what I need!" She smiled as she gripped the bone in the middle making a stance as if she were going to fire an arrow. "It feels good." She stated seeing that the bone would make a good use for a bow all she needed was something to make a bow string to tie on both ends and some arrows.

With her find in hand along with her spear she went into the nearby jungle. She found plenty of vines hanging around from the trees. She gathered a good number of vines wrapping them over her shoulder and picked up a few branches as she would need to them to make arrows with.

She heard stomping coming her way as the ground began to shake under her feet. Quickly she took cover within some bushes and waited. She steadied her breathing trying not to sound too loud as the thundering steps came closer and as she peered through the bush she was met with something horrifying. She was looking at a T-Rex.

The Tyrannosaurus was everything the science books she read said it was. It was massive walking on two biped legs. Its two clawed arms were tiny, and its muzzle was big enough to chomp onto an army jeep. Its teeth looked sharp as razors as, Vikki shivered at the sight doing her very best to stay quiet as the apex predator of the dinosaurs was unaware of, Vikki's presence as it stomped past her as it searched for something to make a meal out of it.

It stopped for a moment growling as its yellow eyes that had a cold look about them look around bringing its muzzle up and sniffed the air trying to pick up the scent of something. Vikki stayed hidden covering her mouth and breathed through her nose as she shook so much in fear of the predator.

The T-Rex lowered its muzzle letting out a roar as it then charged straight through the jungle having found something that it could sink its teeth into leaving the shook up, Vikki in the bushes as she was so relieved it didn't spot her.

She crawled out from the bushes quickly gathering every she had and made a quick dash out of the jungle going so fast back up the hill and down to the other side with so much momentum she didn't bother taking it slow. She had to get back to her shelter and fast before the T-Rex could come back.

Vikki ran as fast as possible finding the familiar path and headed through it till she spotted her shelter near the lake and smiled at the scene as the welcome sight of where she made camp at made her feel rather safe within.

"That was too close!" She sighed in relief dropping everything she brought and her spear near a log sitting down on it putting her hands over her head so glad that she didn't end up being spotted and possibly eaten by the massive beast of nature.

After taking a couple of minutes to calm herself down she perked up. "Time to get to work!" She gathered the bone and sticks she found along with the vines. She realized then she was without another important piece that would be needed for her arrows.

"I'm going to need feathers for the fletching. But where can I get that?" She asked herself. She peered at the lake to see there were still a few birds swimming and standing by it. But she shook her head.

"I won't be able to get close! I cannot throw that accurately." She scoffed at the thought, but she then saw a hawk fly over her heading over one of the rocky walls.

Seeing how some birds were scavengers like the Hawk she saw. Perhaps she could make a plan. Grabbing her spear, she headed for the lake. Some birds that were close by took off in flight at the sight of, Vikki coming close.

She hopped onto the bolder she stood on the previous day and waited for a fish to come by. Like before she had to stand for a short while before a fish came close. She shoved her spear within the surface of the water and skewered the fish bringing it out of the water as it wiggled helplessly as it was in enormous pain with the spear within it.

Vikki smiled as she hopped back onto the bank and took the off the struggling fish and threw it onto the ground and stepped back a distance as the fish hopped on the land helplessly as, Vikki waited hoping her plan would work.

After a few minutes two vultures began to circle the fish that hopped upon as it slowly bled out. They landed on both sides of the fish and began to peck at it. They tried to sink their sharp beaks into the fish as it continued to thrash about on the ground.

As the vultures tried to get at the fish on the land, Vikki came running at them with her spear held on and just when one of the vultures noticed a shadow coming close and turned to see what was coming it was too late as, Vikki thrusted the spear into the vulture as it screamed loudly in excruciating pain as the other one quickly flew away to avoid suffering the same fate.

Vikki threw vulture onto the ground pressing her foot down on it pulling out her spear before thrusting it back into the vulture killing it on the second blow.

"Yes!" She triumphantly cheered as she now had many feathers on the vulture to make use of and the fish she used as bait had now died from the blood loss. "I got food and materials to work with! I'm good!" She gloated grabbing the dead vulture and pierced the now dead fish with her spear taking them both over to her shelter.

Vikki then finally began her work as she gathered some rocks and hit them against a tiny boulder till they became pointed sharp. Using one of the branches she brought she tied the now sharpened rock onto a piece of a branch with a tiny amount of vine making a makeshift knife.

She proceeded to use her knife to skin the hide of the vulture. She first cut the innards out not minding how grotesque task as she had gone hunting in her early days and had gotten used to seeing such things. And with all her wartime experience she had seen far worse than the insides of an animal.

Though being trapped in a prehistoric world seemed to top everything in this moment. She stayed focused on her task and after she cut the innards out dropping them over the fire pit letting the ash mask the apparent smell that came from them she cut off some of the feathers and when she got enough she began to work on the branches and began the task turning them into arrows.

Within a couple of hours, she carved four branches into tiny sticks that would just the right size for arrows. She cut one end of each stick to make nocks for them. She rechecked the shaft of her soon to be arrows to double check on them for anything that still needed a carve.

Once she cut the nocks in all of them she proceeded to take two feathers placing them in the back of the arrows making fletching's for them as she placed them carefully in the tiny sloths she made on both sides of the end of the arrows. She had to pry them into them to make sure they stayed in. After each arrow had their fletching in them then came the last part.

Gathering more rocks and like spear she spent the next hour striking and sharpening them to a point much smaller than the one she had on her spear and used vines to tie them into place on the spine of the arrows.

"Phase one completed!" Vikki grinned as she picked up the bone next. "Now for phase two."

Vikki grabbed more of the vine she had gathered and first started to make a grip on the middle of the bone tying some of the vine around it till she had enough in the middle for her whole hand to grasp. Then she began to tie one end over and around one of the bones ends. Then she pulled as hard as she could to the next end pulling it so tight that it too her some effort to tie the other end the same she had tied the first one trying to keep the newly made bowstrung hard and taut.

The Young woman smiled widely as her bow was complete! She stood up and grabbing the middle of the bow string and pulled. It took some of her strength to pull the string back as it had some difficulty, but she pulled it as far back as it could go and thankfully the vine did not snap.

"I did!" She cheered so loudly that she lost herself in her enthusiasm not realizing the mistake she made as she had alerted a Pteranodon that was flying close to the lake. It screeched loudly as it eyed the green haired woman looking at her with hungry eyes.

Vikki heard a loud screech come from behind her as she turned quickly to see a pterodactyl coming from high above the lake as it came at her fast. "Oh, nuts!" She gulped.
