Post-Pilot Season 1, episode 1
Monday morning finds Rachel Berry on her way to her locker. She's early, almost a half hour, and she plans to get to the Choir room so she can practice some for Glee this afternoon.
She is anxious about today. She just left a note in Quinn Fabray's locker, the Quinn Fabray, Cheerios Captain, her ex-best friend. The girl who now calls her derogatory names, like Manhands, and Ru-Paul, and orders Slushies to be thrown at her.
She left the note and then went and hid out in her car for a while, until she was sure it was safe to come inside.
No one came looking for her, so she guesses Quinn is either waiting for an audience, or she just threw away the note instead of reading it.
As soon as she opens her locker door, she is greeted with two roses. One is a dark red and the other is white. Her heart stops at the sight.
It's something she hasn't seen in 4 years. There's a note too, and Rachel reaches for it with a trembling hand. She immediately recognizes the handwriting.
Rachel,
You're probably wondering what this is all about, right? Well, let me explain. As you know, the white rose signifies purity. Innocence. The start of something new. The red always meant 'I'm sorry' for us.
I had these put together for a reason. I hate what we have had to do to you. I am so sorry, and I swear we are going to make this right. I got your letter. Just know that I heard everything you said, loud and clear.
Don't come looking for us, okay? You have to be patient even though I know you'll be going crazy and have a dozen questions. We have to wait for the right time, but I promise it will happen, Rae.
~ Quinn
Rachel swipes at the tears, never happier that she arrived early to school than she is now. She tucks the note back into her locker, beside the roses. She makes her way to the choir room, hoping that the rose and note are not just a joke.

They watch the whole performance from the balcony. All Santana and Q can think is how Rachel sounds so good. Then again, she's always sounded great. At the end, Coach Sylvester stalks off with Santana and Quinn trailing behind her.
Santana catches Quinn smiling and bumps the blonde with her shoulder. "She sounded really good, didn't she?"
Quinn's smile grows. "Of course she did. She's always sounded good." And Santana just smiles in agreement.
Later that night finds the three Cheerios at Santana's house, in the Latina's bedroom. Britt digs under Santana's bed and comes out with a very familiar box.
"Sanny," Britt whispers softly. The other two Cheerios turn from their homework to see Britt with a sad look on her face. Their eyes fall on the box that holds so many of their memories. "Can we watch a video, please?"
Santana just nods her consent and tells Brittany that she can pick the one they watch. Brittany chooses a movie that holds one of their very first memories, back in the very beginning of their friendship.
Date on movie: September 2003
Ages/Grades of kids: 9 years old/4th grade
"San! Britt!" 9-year-old Rachel Berry calls out as she and her best friend, 9-year-old Quinn Fabray, race to the door where her daddy, Josiah, is letting in two more 9-year-olds, Santana Lopez and Brittany Pierce.
"Hi, Rachie!" Brittany greets. "Hi, Quinn!"
The girls smile at this. It's been so long since they were able to have fun and just be kids without any responsibilities and without high school making their lives even harder.
"Hey, Britt!" The young blonde giggles as she gets a big bear hug from the blue-eyed girl.
"Come on!" Rachel calls out. "My Dad has everything set up in the backyard!" The four little girls race each other to the backyard where Rachel's other father, her dad, David Berry, has several cans of silly string. There are also tons of glow stick bracelets, necklaces, and different kinds of wands.
"We are going to play silly sting tag!" Rachel tells them. Brittany cheers and jumps up and down causing Santana to giggle at the blonde's excitement.
"How do we play it, Rachie?"
"Well, just like normal tag, one person is 'it'. That person has a can of silly string they will use to spray the other players. When they spray someone, that person will then be 'it' and will choose a color of silly string. It just goes on and on until we get tired, or run out of the silly string."
Brittany squeals, jumping up and down and clapping her hands. "Oh, that sounds fun! Can I be 'it?' Please, Rachie?"
"Okay, Britt. What color do you want? We have blue, green, purple, pink, red, and orange."
"Um…I want the blue!" Rachel hands it to her and the next several hours are spent with the girls running around, yelling, screaming, and laughing. After they run out of all but two cans of silly string, they change into their bathing suits.
Off to the side, Rachel and Lucy are talking. Rachel has a smile on her face, and she's hugging Lucy. She tells her something that makes the blonde's face light up and the two hug again before they join Brittany and Santana in the pool. David and Josiah grill hot dogs, and regular and veggie burgers.
"Rachie, look! I can go in the deep end now!" Rachel's eyes widen as she and Lucy watch the taller blonde dive under the water and come up in the deep end.
"Wow, Britt! That's so cool. I'm proud of you. You did really well!"
"Thanks, Rachie. Sanny showed me how this summer, didn't you, Sanny?" Brittany's mom has been too busy with her on-again-off-again boyfriends to sign Brittany up for swim lessons, so Santana showed her how by herself.
"I sure did, B."
"Hey! Let's play Marco/Polo!" Britt suggests. "Sanny can be it!"
"Alright, alright. Everyone close their eyes!" Rachel instructs. "And no peaking, Santana!" This is met with an eye-roll from the Latina 9-year-old.
"I know, I know. Everybody spread out!" She tells them. "Ready? Set. Go! Marco!"
"Polo!" This is shouted by all three girls from different ends of the pool. David and Josiah watch as the four girls giggle and shout and call out 'Marco' or 'Polo', just all around having a good time.
The rest of the movie is quite the same. The girls swim around, laughing and splashing each other. Then, they get out for popsicles and burgers. When it gets too dark to continue filming, Josiah turns the camera off with the girls waving bye to the screen as it fades off.
Once the video is finished, Brittany still looks a little down, so while Quinn is putting tape up, Santana tugs her over and into a hug. "What's the matter, B?"
Brittany sighs and lays her head on Santana's shoulder and Quinn crawls to in front of them. "I miss Rachie, Sanny." Santana and Quinn share a look. Then Santana turns to the blue-eyed girl.
"I know, Britt-Britt," the Latina soothes. "We miss her, too." Another look. This time with Quinn sighing. She looks down, playing with some loose strings on her sweatpants, and Santana narrows her eyes. "What's wrong with you, Q?"
Quinn covers her face with her hands and breathes in shakily. Then, she blurts out, "I let a note and a rose in Rach's locker this morning!" Santana's eyes widen and both she and Britt look panicked.
"You what!? Quinn!"
"I know, okay! I know." Quinn knocks the palms of her hands against her forehead. "It's just…I couldn't just not do anything after reading her note, San! God, you–you saw what she wrote. How long she felt that way. I just…"
She trails off, unable to continue, but she doesn't need to anyway – Santana understands. She read the note that Rachel left in Quinn's locker this morning.
Santana softens. "Oh, Q."
"10 years, San." The blonde looks devastated. Santana's heart aches for her friend. "Ten years ago we met and became best friends. We were five years old and didn't have a care in the world. I just…I needed to do something. I can't go on like this. I can't let my father choose who we be friends with anymore."
The Latina sighs, "What did you write in the note? You didn't tell her anything did you?"
She should have known that it was weird when Quinn disappeared between the end of Cheerios practice and their shared first-period class.
"No," Quinn shakes her head. "All I said was that we hated what we were doing. We are going to make it right and she has to be patient. And she couldn't come find us, even if she has questions."
Santana is silent as she digests this. She sighs heavily; raking her fingers through her hair and makes her mind up.
"Okay, listen. This is how it's going to be. Q has set this in motion already. We don't have any choice but to follow through. But!" She holds up a hand when Brittany perks up and goes to speak.
"But, we cannot just jump into this head first. All right?" She stresses this heavily and the two blonde Cheerios nod in response. "We need to plan this out. Really plan it out, and think it through. We need to know just what we are going to do exactly."
"We need to know when we are going to do it, and we need to know how it is going to happen. It is going to take time. Maybe weeks, maybe months. It may take until Christmas or later."
She sighs. "However long it takes, this is going to be the year we get Rachel back. Okay?"
Brittany looks happier than either Quinn or Santana has seen her in the four years they've been made to do this to Rachel, and Santana knows she's made the right decision.
This is the year the Unholy Trinity will get their star back.
So? What do you think? This episode was post the pilot episode. The next several chapters are going to revolve around the back nine episodes of Glee.
This is going to be Faberry/Faberrittana friendship with Brittana (eventually) and Quick (Quinn & Noah) relationship.
Please review and let me know what you thought! :)
