Magical Origins

Year 1: Flight and Wings

The winter holidays were over, which meant many students were returning, and the once quiet castle was becoming busy again.

For Harry, this meant his mind could be drifted away from his nightmares. Ever since he saw his parents in the Mirror of Erised, he has been having nightmares of seeing them vanish under a green light. With studies returning, Harry's mind was able to return to school.

There was something else going on that caused Harry to take his mind off the mirror. The second Quidditch match for the House of Slytherin was going to happen on Sunday. That's not what caused Harry to get excited.

Terence Higgs, the House Seeker, got himself injured, so Flint, the team captain, was forced to look for a replacement for Sunday's game. Harry, after watching the first game, wanted to play. Having never really gotten into sports before, Harry was eager to do well.

Draco Malfoy also signs up, saying it was a shame first years don't get to be on the team more. He was boasting he was going to be the youngest quidditch player ever.

That wasn't the only shocker, the one who had a claim on being the youngest was Lily. Not only did she manage to get on the Gryffindor team as the new seeker, but she was also able to catch the snitch in record time. Flatten Slytherin, 240 to 60. Flint was furious that a first-year had managed to humiliate him. Now he was seeking to play fire with fire. He was going to allow first-years to participate in a spot on his team.

Harry was looking at his borrowed broom, a comet 260. He couldn't deny it; he was both excited and yet nervous.

"Hey, Harry." Artemis Wynter said as she sits next to him.

"Hello, Artemis, excited for classes?" Harry asks.

"Merlin, no. My O.W.L.'s are coming up, and Percy won't stop badgering me to shape up, or my grades will cause me to flunk." Artemis said.

"You really need to get him to dial it down," Harry replies.

"I know," Artemis said as she grabs Harry's drink and drains it. Harry didn't mind. She was really the only one allowed to touch or drink Harry's food. The others learn not to mess with Potter after he cursed a Sixth Year for yanking his book out of his hands. Everyone soon learned, only Artemis could do it.

"Where is Percy now?" Harry asks.

"In the library," Artemis said." But forget Percy, is it true you're trying out for the Quidditch Team?"

"Where did you hear that?" Harry asks with a raised eyebrow. Artemis only grins from ear to ear, telling him she wasn't saying.

"Yeah, I'm going to try out. Though I'm not sure if I should if the rumors around Malfoy are true."

"I can speak to Flint if you want," Artemis said. She, too, heard the rumors that Draco had bought his way already on the team.

"I guess it won't matter. I heard my father was an amazing Quidditch player." Harry said.

"According to the rumors, he was one of the best," Artemis said.

Harry only smiles as Artemis ruffles his hair. His mind went back to that mysterious note he received shortly before the Winter Holidays.

'Dear Mr. Potter, I know you are reading this as Dumbledore is not as clever as he thinks he is. You caused quite a show last year when you sent that blizzard in the middle of summer. Not as good as your friend Liliana Morris as she nearly destroyed an entire city with her fire. Your Awakenings has attracted a lot of attention. For now, things are cooling off, and most of the attention has quiet down. However, that doesn't excuse the fact that you are an Elementalist. You have the power over water and ice. You're friend Miss Morris, if you haven't figured it out, is a Fire Elementalist. Both of you will become powerful, and that means you'll make a lot of enemies. You both need to get stronger, and you can only do that while you're at Hogwarts. Once you leave, your fresh game. However, while you may have already done you're Awakening, there is still one more phase you have to complete. The Ascendance. It will take you another five years before the Ascendance happens. These books will help you learn to control your powers. Make sure you pass the Fire Elemental Book to your friend Miss Morris.

I'll be watching, I cannot risk coming to you now. Dumbledore will know if I enter Hogwarts. However, I will keep my eyes on you and Miss Morris.

Word of advice, be careful who you hang around and tell you're elemental. It won't be just Death Eaters that will try to kill you. All sorts of people and organizations will attempt to eliminate you before you mature.

I am also more than aware that the Dark Lord, Lord Voldemort, is not gone and will do anything to return to power. You'll be safe in Hogwarts.

I'll keep in touch, have an enjoyable Holiday!'

There was no signature, no name, no clue as to who sent that letter. It was clear this person wasn't in Hogwarts, somewhat somewhere else in the world.

The book was more than usefully as it explained in great detail the abilities and powers of the water element. He was sure Lily was enjoying her book.

In Gryffindor Tower, Lily was looking at the book with great interest. The gift Potter sent her was a true gift. Over the winter break, she didn't run into Potter after their little adventure with the Mirror of Erised. Though Ron wanted to catch him out of bounds and get him expelled. In all honesty, she thought Ron was a bit too obsessed with Potter.

Rumors were spreading that Flint was looking for a new Seeker after Harkins failed to get the snitch in their last game. It was the first lost Slytherin face in seven years.

She still remembers how she got on the team in the first place.

She had taken a school broom, and she and Ron were chasing each other on the Quidditch field. Only she was moving faster than him. They were having so much fun that they didn't notice Professor McGonagall coming out on the field for being out of bounds. She took ten points each from them, then drag Lily to her office, where she summons a fifth year to her office.

Oliver Wood was just as confused as she was when he showed up. Until Professor McGonagall told him that she found him a Seeker.

Lily was just as confuse until they explain the Gryffindor Team was in dire need of a new Seeker. McGonagall stated first years usually don't play on the field, but she was sure they could bend the rule for her.

The real excitement came when she got the latest quidditch broom, a nimbus two thousand. Needless to say, she was shocked that she got such a good racing boom. Wood was proud of himself.

The first match turns bloody, as Slytherin was cheating to win. Lily got herself involved. She dove in between their patters, forcing them to break apart, even leading Higgs around on a wild goose chase. When she finally saw the snitch, she was the quickest and caught it with Harkins trailing her dust.

Needless to say, she became the Hero of Gryffindor having won their first match against Slytherin in five years.

The only thing she didn't like was the early morning training. Since their win, Wood has been a fanatic in training them to win the Quidditch House Cup. While no one likes it, they couldn't deny the feeling was good, and they could win the House Cup.

The rumors surrounding Slytherin was that Flint had gone to Professor Snape to complain about having a first-year in a Quidditch match. Snape told him, while First Years weren't allowed to bring their own brooms, there were loopholes in this rule, and no rule ruled them out of joining a team.

Now Flint was seeking to play fire with fire. He had reopened Slytherin tryouts and was hoping he could get a talented first year in his wing. Rumors also spread that Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were also doing the same thing. Gryffindor had pulled ahead for the House Cup.

Lily learns that the House Cup rules differ from Professional Quidditch Rules. In Professional Quidditch, you won by catching the snitch and having a higher set of points. House Cup rules were different. For the House Cup, you had to win by overall points. In other words, you had to have the points to defeat your opponents, or you could win the match but lose the cup.

Currently, Gryffindor was in the lead by earning a hundred and eighty points in their match against Slytherin. Slytherin now was in last place with Hufflepuff with zero points. Ravenclaw was currently in second place with seventy points.

Slytherin's next game was against Hufflepuff. Though Flint was sure he would win, he wanted to take the lead for the House Cup and crush Gryffindor.

"Lily, you there?" Hermione said as she sits down across from here.

"What's up, Hermione?" Lily said as she was brought out of her train of thoughts.

"You miss your study session. At this rate, you're going to fall behind." Hermione said.

"Hermione, I have Quidditch practice now. I can't do every study session with you just because you want to. Besides, my grades are fine. I have nothing but Outstanding." Lily said as she shook her head. Hermione only cared about academics and hardly understood what having fun was about. She enjoyed spending time with Ron as they played all sorts of magical games together. When he wasn't ranting about Potter. She honestly didn't know what to expect from Ron, who was convinced Potter was going to be the next Dark Lord. While Potter came off rude, she doubts he was evil.

"Look I have to go do something, we'll catch up later," Lily said as she gets up and grabs her Nimbus.

Harry stood with the other Slytherins for tryouts. He and Malfoy were quickly the smallest of the group, but he was confident he could fly well. He manages so far in the dead of night when no one was watching.

"Alright, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Marcus Flint. I'm the Quidditch Team House Captain, and I'm looking for a seeker who can play. I have already released the Snitch out on the field, whoever catches it, will be on the team." Flint said.

Everyone paused as they took in Flint's words. Harry mounted his broom and quickly jumps in the air. The others suddenly realize what was going on instantly, followed.

Once in the air, Harry felt in his element. He quickly began spotting for the snitch with about twelve others who were searching for the sky relentlessly.

Some of the players started punching and kicking each other, trying to knock the other out the air.

After searching for ten minutes, Harry spotted the Snitch flying low and immediately took off after it. While his broom wasn't fast, he was the only one who spotted it as everyone was chasing him but looking around for it.

To Harry's horror, Draco wasn't lying. He could fly well. Draco's eyes were fixated on Snitch, and he was pushing his broom to go faster.

Knowing Draco would get their first Harry pushed his broom to its limits, but Draco was faster.

Knowing he had only one chance to get the Snitch, Harry leaps off his broom and throws himself into the air at the Snitch.

Draco clearly wasn't expecting this, and before he knew what had happened, Harry had passed straight towards the Snitch.

Harry hit the ground hard as he felt something in his shoulder give. In his right hand, the Snitch was beaten helplessly in his hand.

Harry said nothing more as he passed out, a small grin on his face.

Harry woke up in the Healer Wing in pain.

"Merlin's beard Potter, you're finally awake. That was quite some catch." Flint said.

"Indeed, Potter." Professor Snape said as he walks into the room.

"Professor Snape was the one who got you into Healer Wing as no one was sure how to move you," Artemis said as she lets her presence felt.

"Thanks," was all Harry could say.

"I think he needs a better broom, Professor. A comet 260 isn't going to cut it for a real Quidditch match." Artemis said as she eyed her Head of House.

"Agreed. Mr. Potter has talent. He should have a broom worthy of his talents." Professor Snape said as he nods his head.

"Enough, all of you. As long as this boy is under my care, I will not have you all disturbing his rest. He'll be good to go tomorrow, but until then, out." Madam Pomfrey said as she ushers everyone out. Artemis waves goodbye just before she turns around and leaves.

Harry was sure everyone would know he had made the Slytherin Quidditch Team.

Lily was hiding in the tower, looking at the Fire Elemental Book. Ever since Potter gave her the book, her control has been better. She couldn't help shake the memory of her surrounded in the inferno of fire that nearly destroyed Sunridge Hill and its inhabitants. She couldn't explain the feeling, only that it scared her greatly as she unleashed all the power within her. She loved that power, but she was also afraid of it. She feared if she ever lost control again, it would be Hogwarts that would be in ruins because of her.

She never told Ron or Hermione she was a Fire Elemental. She wasn't sure how they would respond. When she learned that Harry was a Water Elemental, she knew he was just like her. It didn't take her long to realize that she and Harry were in a completely different class than the rest of her classmates. Not only was their intelligence on magic higher than average, but their skills in the classroom also set them apart almost instantly. Theories and Practical work weren't a challenge for either of them. While Lily knew, she wasn't as smart as Hermione, yet for a strange reason, her brain seems to fully understand the concept of magic.

She looks at her right hand, and with a brief amount of concentration, she conjurors fire in her hand. The bright orange glow causes her to wonder just what this world really had to offer her.

Announcing that she was a Fire Elemental wasn't smart. Just looking up about Elemental's in the Library was difficult, as few elementals ever went on record. What was known, that many were powerful sorcerers and sorceresses? Many grew cocky and arrogant in their abilities. Some even went mad for their thirst for power.

The last confirm Elemental was over two hundred and fifty years ago, A fire witch who sought to burn the world in an attempt to rule it. It was clear she was mad.

Lily banishes the fire from her hand and holds herself carefully. She did not want to go crazy overpower. She likes who she was before she discovered she was a witch. She wonders if Potter was aware of their remarkable gift.

She looks at her wand, the wand that was beyond unique. This wand had a strong connection to Harry, yet she was its wielder. She wonders why, why was she being pulled into Harry's life.

Potter was a mystery. Everything about him was shrouded in mystery. He disappeared for ten years only to reemerge as a powerful wizard. While Hermione was ahead in all theatrical work, it was Harry who was ahead in the practical work. She wasn't far behind, yet Harry was a mystery. The few times she did see him, he was usually alone. She even overheard some Slytherin's talking about how they couldn't figure Potter out. A couple of Slytherins also remark how scared they were of Potter.

She shutters as she remembers the rumor.

Pansy Parkinson was in deep trouble for leading the attack on her. Her parents were furious, as was the rest of the house. Someone got a hold of a lot of snakes. Some were even venomous. Even though boys weren't allowed near the girl's dorm, the rumor spread that Harry had the snakes attack the girls in their sleep. The screams had woken the entire dorm. Pansy Parkinson and Millicent Bulstrode had to be rush to the hospital wing. Daphne Greengrass and her best friend Tracy Davis were also scarred. Someone had managed to enter the girl's dorm and set loose a bunch of snakes. They felt lucky as they were not targeted. It did set a new level of fear inside the House of Slytherin. Rumors spread that Harry was the one behind the attack, even when there was no proof. All that was reported, that a dark look could be seen whenever someone called a muggle-born student a 'Mudblood.' The very word that the House of Slytherin love to spoke of soon became a taboo word. Even the Seventh Years, soon learn not to cross Potter.

Pansy Parkinson and Millicent Bulstrode where both given a warning, some suspect it was by Harry himself. If they ever attack another muggle-born student, then they would not walk out of Hogwarts alive.

It was enough to cause the House of Slytherin to be petrified with fear.

Lily never told anyone, but she knew at once Harry was indeed behind the attacks. Though she couldn't fathom how he manages.

It was a dark side of Harry she never thought existed.

Though she couldn't help but smile.

She knew the reason why he went so far to prove his point in the House of Slytherin.

Despite what he may say to her, he really did consider her a friend.

That's why he saved her from being expelled. When he lied to the teachers about her fight with the House of Slytherin. He did not want to see her expelled and stood up for her.

Perhaps he had a soft spot too. He never showed it, but she wonders if given time, he would show her the real him.

She prayed he was a good person. He seemed to like it when he stuck up for her. He even went as far as to get revenge for her when he sent those snakes against his own housemates. That told her, he valued her friendship more than his own house.

For a strange reason, this alone caused her to smile warmly.

Author Notes: YES THIS STORY IS BACK ON!

I know it's been a really long time since I've updated this story. One reason why I stopped was that I didn't get a lot of reviews, so it made me quit. However, I've been pestered for nearly 7 months now to continue this story by a lot of people. So it's back, and I'll try to keep this more active.

Again this is a Harry and Lily (OC) Pairing. Won't happen right away, but I'll build-up to their relationship. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Suggestions are welcome!
