Magical Origins
Year 1: The First Match
Harry was pumped as he puts on his Slytherin Quidditch team uniform. Today was Harry's first official match against Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw was looking to expand their lead. As they were in second place, they were hoping to catch up to Gryffindor. Who would be playing Hufflepuff tomorrow. Slytherin was looking to getting on the board and prove they were not going to give up their Quidditch Cup up just yet. Though if they did, it would mark the first loss they've suffered in seven years.
Flint was determined to win over Ravenclaw. However, Harry knew after watching Ravenclaw's game with Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw was not only good, but they were a tough opponent.
Harry took to the air with the rest of the Slytherins and flew around the pitch. His green robes with the number seven on it along with his name. As Harry flew around the stadium, he could hear the school chanting his name.
Harry pushed his Nimbus Two Thousand around, feeling the wind in his hair and the winter cold against his face. To him, he was living in the summer warmth as the winter cold-pressed wonderful on his skin. To him, it was heaven.
"Welcome to Match Two of the InterHouse Quidditch Cup between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Today is real excitement as Harry Potter has entered the Quidditch field for the first time ever. This marks the second first year to enter the Quidditch Team since Gryffindor's own Lily Morris. Will Slytherin claim an upset over the current undefeated Ravenclaw's, we'll see in this match if the famous Harry Potter is just as good on a broom as he is with magic."
"Jordan!" Professor McGonagall shouted.
"Sorry, Professor." Jordan Lee said. However, Harry knew at once Jordan was insulting Harry as he believed as did half the school he got on the team base on his fame, and not his skills.
Harry knew at once he was going to get payback for that remark.
Currently, Gryffindor was in the lead, and they wouldn't play till tomorrow. Slytherin's only hope was completely overcome Ravenclaw and win with over a hundred points.
Harry line up above the chasers as Flint took the center. Miles Bletchley took to the post as did the Ravenclaw.
"Captain's, shake hands." Madam Hooch said. Flint had a nasty look on his face as he attempted to crush the Ravenclaw's captain hand.
"Now, I want a clean game from all of you." Madam Hooch said as she waves her wand. The chest opens up from the ground releasing the bludgers and the golden snitch.
The tension mounts as the game would only begin with the release of the Quaffle.
Madam Hooch waved her wand again, and the Quaffle shot up into the air.
Everyone sped off immediately with Flint grabbing the Quaffle.
Harry took off but came to a stop as Madam Hooch blew her whistle.
"Ravenclaw penalty." She roared.
Harry then notice one of the Ravenclaw chasers was holding their face, blood was everywhere. One of the Slytherin beaters shrugs their shoulders like it was nothing.
It didn't take long for Harry to realize that the beater had hit the chaser in the face with their bat.
Harry heard that Slytherin players played dirty, now he realized that this team likes to cheat to win.
One of the Ravenclaw chasers took the penalty and scored against Bletchley. Making the scored 10-0 for Ravenclaw.
With that being said, the game resume.
Things for Slytherin did not improve. They committed five more fouls, and Ravenclaw had scored three times within ten minutes. The score now stood at 90-0 Ravenclaw.
Harry did not like this, Flint had committed more than three fouls himself as he grabs one of the chaser's heads instead of going for the Quaffle. The chaser was now hanging on for dear life as the Ravenclaw house cried out "Foul!" throughout the stadium.
Within fifteen minutes into the game and Slytherin just committing foul after foul, the score now stood at a 140-0 Ravenclaw.
Harry knew he had to catch the snitch soon, or else Ravenclaw would just overcome them in points as the Golden Snitch only awarded a hundred and fifty points.
Finally, progress could be seen as Flint scored, making the scored 140-10. However, Ravenclaw still had a considerable lead.
Realizing that momentum was in Ravenclaw's favor Harry immediately dove. His sudden dive had alerted the Ravenclaw seeker who dived with him. Harry pushed forward as the Ravenclaw Seeker push his broom to catch up.
With the ground coming up, Harry immediately jumps up and places his feet on the back of his broom and pulls up. Allowing him to shot up straight into the air.
The Ravenclaw seeker wasn't so lucky as he realized the feint too late and crashed into the ground hard at full speed.
"Foul!" Ravenclaw cried as their seeker hit the ground hard.
No whistle was blown as the move was perfectly legal, and Harry didn't do anything to harm the Ravenclaw seeker.
Ravenclaw called a timeout, which allowed Madam Hooch to blow her whistle for a ten-minute break. The Ravenclaw's all went down to their seeker to see if he was okay.
"No one can believe it, but Harry Potter has just pulled a Wronski Feint against Ravenclaw!" Jordan shouted into his magic-fone.
The Ravenclaw's all huddle around their seeker, who slowly got back to his feet and was having trouble standing.
The Slytherin's meanwhile, all gathered around Harry and started patting him on the back. Smiles were on their faces. He had eliminated their rival seeker.
It appeared the Ravenclaw Seeker was having trouble staying on his feet, so he was put in the Ravenclaw penalty area where he could rest and rejoin the game later.
The whistle blew, and everyone jumps back on their brooms to reassume the game.
Ravenclaw's momentum had died entirely. Despite the fact, they had better players on brooms, the sudden loss of their seeker had hit rock bottom. They miss five shots and only scored once.
Slytherin finally was starting to dominate, fouls were committed less, and they had scored seven times, making the scored 150-80.
Harry had the entire sky to himself, no one was really bothering him.
After Adrian Pucey scored three more goals making the score 150-110, Harry finally saw it. The Snitch was hanging around the commentary booth. Harry immediately dove, this time, with no other Seeker around, Jordan called out his sudden move.
This time, the Ravenclaws had a game plan. Their beaters attack Harry with the bludgers in hopes of knocking him out. Harry dodged the bludgers and was forced to alternate his course, in doing so, he lost sight of the snitch.
Harry hits his broom in frustration. Angry, that he couldn't end the game and give Slytherin a vast lead. He moved his broom up above the field so he wouldn't be out of bounds, but far enough to not attract any attention.
That's when it happened. His broom gave a sudden jerk, and he had to grasp on tightly.
Harry turns to Flint to ask for a time out when his broom suddenly buckled and attempted to throw him off. Harry hold on, as the broom tried to throw him off and was bucking wildly.
At first, no one seemed to have noticed that Harry broom was trying to throw him off, but then the crowd shouted out and pointed to him. Everyone stood on their feet, watching Harry, who was holding on to dear life.
Hermione was looking through her binoculars and look through the crowd.
"I knew it, it's Snape." She said.
Lily grabs them and looks at Snape, who was muttering underneath his breath.
"What's he doing?" Lily asks.
"He's jinxing the broom."
"I saw we let him kill Potter," Ron said.
"Ron!" Hermione said in shock.
Lily pulled out her wand and was preparing to use the levitation charm on Harry in case he did fall.
"Can you stop him, Hermione?" Lily asks.
"Leave it to me," Hermione said as she disappears into the crowd.
Flint took the Quaffle and scored several times, boosting Slytherin's score.
The Ravenclaw's clearly didn't care that Harry was on the other team or that he took out their seeker, they were all trying to reach Harry to pull him to safety. However, none of them could get near him without Harry's broom bucking even more dangerously. Without a sure way to get to Harry without him falling off, the Ravenclaw's instead stay underneath Harry, in hopes to catch him should he fall.
Hermione hid underneath the seat as she reaches Professor Snape's area and slowly places fire on his robes.
"Fire, you're on fire." Someone shouted.
Professor Snape jumps up and knocks some witches and wizards back as he puts out the fire on him.
Harry was finally thrown off his broom and was falling to the ground fast. The Ravenclaw's move to catch him, but he slips right past them.
"Wingardium Leviosa," Lily said as she flicks her wand out.
Harry, for a brief moment, paused as he felt himself stop only for the Ravenclaw Seeker to grab him. He was holding on as the female seeker pulls him on her broom. Harry finally got on a sit behind her as she slows her broom down to the ground. Harry jumps off and nods his head in thanks.
She said nothing as she went to rejoin her team.
A timeout was called as everyone went to the ground.
Madam Hooch went over to Professor McGonagall, and the two began to talk for a time to discuss the possible event of continuing the match.
Then Madam Hooch blew her whistle.
"Game's over." She called.
The final score was 210 to 160 Slytherin.
The Snitch was never caught. The staff all took Harry's broom for inspection to ensure that the broom itself wasn't a curse.
"What made my broom behave like that?" Harry asks Artemis in the Slytherin Common Room. Everything had cooled off, but Harry needed answers.
"Someone was jinxing your broom," Artemis told him.
"Who?"
"That is the question. I know the teachers are going to investigate this carefully. I heard Professor Dumbledore himself was called in." Artemis said.
Harry said nothing more.
It was hard to describe the mood in the Slytherin Common Room.
Many Slytherin's were just happy they won the match. Others were deeply disturbed that someone would try to attack a member of their house in broad daylight.
To say the house was divided was the best way to describe the feeling.
"Have you've noticed it, Harry?" Artemis said, breaking Harry out of his thoughts.
"Notice what?" Harry said as he looks at her.
"There is a change in the House of Slytherin. Ever since you join, people have been questioning what this House is really is about. This is the first time the House of Slytherin has ever been really divided. A change is happening, the question is, is it a good change or a bad one." Artemis said.
Harry said nothing, he hasn't been a part of the House of Slytherin for long and really didn't know it well enough to place judgment. However, he would be a fool if he didn't sense the house was divided.
Harry said nothing as he thought about the feeling he got in the winter wind.
It was the best feeling he had ever gotten.
"Tell me one thing, Harry," Artemis asks.
"What?"
"Have you've ever pulled off a Wronski Feint before?" She asks with a grin.
"No, I just thought if I could get the chaser to hit the ground, I would be able to catch the snitch without interference. I didn't even know it had a name when I did it." Harry said in truth. Artemis grins as she ruffles his hair.
"You may be a real prodigy, you know," Artemis said gleefully.
In the Gryffindor Common Room, Lily was talking to Ron and Hermione.
"Why would Snape want to kill Harry?" Lily asks.
"I don't know, but the fact that he tried to in front of the entire school makes him dangerous," Hermione said.
"Do you think Potter knows," Ron said, slowly.
"Knows what?" Lily and Hermione said.
"What if Harry found out that Snape is after, you-know-what, and Snape was trying to get rid of Potter for discovering his secret," Ron said in a slow voice.
"That could be possible. If Snape is after whatever it is, Fluffy is guarding, and Harry found out, that means Snape was trying to make Potter's death look like an accident." Hermione said, calmly.
"We have to warn him," Lily said.
"No one is going to miss Potter if he dies. He deserves it, Lily." Ron said.
"Ron!" Hermione said.
Lily shook her head. Ron was convinced that Potter was a dark wizard. It seems nothing was ever going to change his mind until he started seeing Potter for himself.
Lily grabs another blanket and puts it on. She was freezing.
"You okay, Lily?" Hermoine asks.
"Yeah, just cold," Lily said as she was the closest person next to the fire and had on extra robes and blankets to keep warm.
"You should see Madam Pomfrey," Hermione said at once.
"I'm not sick, I just can't stand the winter holidays," Lily said as she curled up in a ball.
'Must be because this is the Winter Holidays, and my element is the Summer.' Lily thought.
"You do realize Potter cheated to win," Ron said.
"No, he didn't." Lily snaps. Ron was going on about how Potter pulled off a successful Wronski Feint and how he believed Potter cheated to pull it off. To say Lily was impress was an understatement. It was not something one can just do. She was going to ask Wood about it later. It also made her wary because when she faces off against him in their match, if he pulled it off, then Gryffindor would be without a seeker. Substitutes could only work before a game, not during. You really need a good excuse to bring in another player for a match that wasn't on the roster.
Lily was sure Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were going to take precautions against Harry. The Wronski Feint sent warning bells to every other Quidditch team in the school.
She notices the Slytherin Quidditch team cheated to win, but Harry relied on skills rather than cheating to win. This showed he was an honest player, and he had good sportsmanship to play fair.
"I'm going to bed," Lily said as she gets up to get some rest.
She would warn Harry about Snape the first chance she could get. She even wondered if he knew about Nicholas Flamel as well.
Lily said nothing more as she crawls into her covers and falls asleep.
Author Notes: I'm going to explain the InterHouse Quidditch Cup standing. It's something I've noticed J.K. Rowling never really revealed. Teams commit over points.
Slytherin won this game with 210, and Ravenclaw had 160. That means a 160 would have been taken from 210. Leaving Slytherin only 50 for the House Cup. The winner can win a match but lose the cup this way. The Third Book was the closest to explain the Cup Point system. After every team has their third match, the two with the highest points face off for the House Cup.
Current Standing:
Slytherin: 50
Gryffindor: 180
Hufflepuff: 0
Ravenclaw: 70
