Magical Origins

Year 2: House Elf Troubles

The Dursley's were now terrified of Harry. There was no question of that. The moment they pulled up in the driveway, Dudley got out the car and ran off to his friend Piers's place. Vernon to make sure the Wynter did not show up and carry out their threat, grabs Harry trunk, and carried it up to his room. Harry tried hard not to laugh as Vernon had to stop a couple of times to catch his breath. Harry set Hedwig's cage by the window and opens it. However, the beautiful owl was sleeping and was enjoying the quiet. Harry made sure he only let Hedwig out at night, as during the day, she would attract a lot of unwanted attention.

While the Wynter threatens the Dursley, the truth was the threat was empty. Harry knew there were muggle protection laws that prevented any witch and wizard from hurting muggles. The Dursley's didn't know this and were terrified the Wynter's would show up and turn them into toads. Their greatest fear was they would be eating flies for the rest of their life.

Harry laughed at the thought.

After he went into his room, he told Petunia as it was now his room, he was going to throw out Dudley's thing. Dudley howled at the thought of his old belongings being thrown out. He was kind enough to point out that if Dudley wanted to keep anything, he was more than welcome. Only that he wouldn't use his room as storage for Dudley's things.

So, Harry began removing Dudley's thing. He cleaned the entire room of all of Dudley's stuff. He turns the closet from a toy junk holder to a place to hold his robes. He made a dresser a place to keep his potion ingredients while the smaller desk that once held a broken computer now holds his books. He even dropped a hint to Petunia that he wanted better bed sheets. The ones he had were no better than rags. She threw off a face of disapproval, but she nodded her head in understanding.

Harry was facing a new problem. It was July, and no one had written to him. His birthday was fast approaching, and he hasn't heard a word from Artemis. Not even Blaise or Lily had written to him. To say he was worried was an underestimate. He finally decided to send Hedwig out to deliver a letter to Artemis. He waited three days before Hedwig came back and with no letters.

Now he was baffled. Something was very wrong.

Today he was hanging in the backyard looking at his elemental book. His strength in using the water elements grew significantly over the year, but it wasn't where he wanted to be. It wasn't like last year when he summons a blizzard in the middle of summer. He was able to place ice around his room to cool him off.

A noise startled him, and Harry looks at the bushes to see a pair of eyes looking at him. Alarm Harry activates his mystic eyes to see whatever was there had vanished.

"I know what day it is," Dudley said as he came outside. He stayed clear of Harry's reach.

Harry slowly turns to look at him with his silver, mystic eyes.

"So, you've finally learned the days of the year," Harry said as he returns to his book.

"Tomorrow is your birthday," Dudley said slowly.

"It is. What's it to you?" Harry said slowly.

"I bet you'll get nothing again. You have no friends." Dudley said with a smirk on his face.

Harry slowly turns to face Dudley with a menacing glare. His silver eyes flash dangerously. The glass door beside Dudley began to crack as the ice started to cover it. The glass was starting to break from the mere pressure of ice on it.

"Mom!" Dudley shouted. "He's doing you know what!" Dudley shouted as he ran back inside.

Petunia came out but stop short, noticing her nephew didn't have a good look in his eye. Instead, she grabbed Dudley and spoke to him. Harry calms down as the ice slowly disappears.

Harry shuts his book shut as he was no longer able to concentrate. He grabs it and walks up to his room.

"Boy," Vernon called out as Harry had his foot on the stairs. He was grinning his teeth as he was planning to retire early. The Wynter's would be arriving tomorrow, and he wanted to be ready as soon as they arrived. Harry slowly turns and walks into the dining room where Vernon was sitting down.

"Tonight, we have an important guest coming over. I trust you haven't forgotten the Masons are coming over." Vernon said in a stern voice.

Harry groan. He, of course, did forget. It's all that Uncle Vernon has been talking about for the past week.

"You are to be in your room, and you won't be coming out. The Masons have no knowledge of your…presence." Vernon said, choosing his words carefully. "I want this night to be perfect, as this is a significant deal for me. You stay there… or there will be hell to pay." Vernon said in a threatening tone of voice.

Harry smirks at Vernon.

"Don't threaten me, Uncle Vernon. You know full well what will happen if you so much lay a finger on me. Did you know Uncle Vernon," Harry said in a cold sweet voice. "That we can erase your existence from the world. You will disappear for good, and no one will even know. How about it, Uncle Vernon, should I wipe the memory of you from existence." Harry added.

Vernon grinds his teeth in frustration. The threat from the Wynter's was still fresh on his mind.

"Make your meal, and don't come down," Vernon said.

Harry cook his meal and put it on two plates as he went upstairs. Just as he closed the door, the doorbell rang. Harry set his plate down on his dresser and went to grab his trunk from underneath his bed when he paused as he narrows his eyes.

Someone else was already sitting on his bed. Or rather, something else.

A small creature with large eyes and bat-like ears was sitting on his bed.

"Who are you?" Harry demands. It was the same eyes that were watching him in the backyard. He wasn't legal to use magic outside of school, there were exceptions. Such as being an attack by a creature, he could easily claim self-defense.

"Greetings Harry Potter." The creature said in a high pitch voice.

"Quiet." Harry hissed. For at that moment, Dudley just greeted the Masons. "Speak softly," Harry said. Harry pulls out a chair and sits down and stares at the strange creature. "Who are you?" Harry demands. He reached for his wand and was prepared to use it.

"Dobby, sir. Just Dobby, Dobby the House-Elf." Said the creature.

"Why did you come to me now? This is not a good time…" Harry began, but the creature cut him off.

"Dobby knows, sir. Dobby knows you're going to see the Wynter's tomorrow. Then you'll be returning to Hogwarts."

"What of it?" Harry asks as he looks at the strange creature.

"Dobby has come to warn you, sir; terrible things are going to happen at Hogwarts. Terrible things!"

"What do you mean, terrible things?" Harry said slowly.

"If my family knew I was warning you…."

Dobby then made grabs the bulk of Harry's head bed and starts banging himself against the headboard.

"What are you doing?" Harry hissed as he pulls Dobby away from the headboard.

"Dobby had to punish himself, sir, Dobby has done a terrible thing against the magical family he serves. If they knew I was here, I would be punished severely for just seeing you." Dobby explains.

"Why don't you escape?" Harry asks.

"A house-elf must be set free, sir. Dobby will serve his family until he dies. The only way to be set free is with clothes Harry Potter. And Dobby's family will make sure not even a sock is handed to him."

"Why are you here?" Harry demanded.

"To tell you to warn you. If you return to Hogwarts, you'll be in terrible danger." Dobby said slowly.

"It won't be to what I'm already used to," Harry said calmly.

"Dobby has heard. You faced You-Know-Who once again and survived. However, this danger is not something you can face. If you return to Hogwarts, you'll be in mortal danger."

"If someone is threatening Hogwarts, this means schemes. Plots, who is behind it?" Harry said.

"Dobby cannot say. Harry Potter must not return to Hogwarts." Harry narrows his eyes at Dobby.

"I do not belong here. I belong in the magical world. If you're coming here to warn me of emendate danger, you better give me a good reason as to why I shouldn't return." Harry said darkly.

"You're going to be in mortal danger, grave danger Harry Potter. You mustn't return to Hogwarts."

"You do realize that you're not convincing me. Tomorrow I got a magical family coming to pick me up. You're not convincing me otherwise." Harry said coldly.

"Harry Potter is too great; the magical world cannot lose Harry Potter," Dobby said as he pops up on his feet. "A terrible plot is already unfolding. Terrible things will happen at Hogwarts this year," Dobby started visibly shaking. "Dobby has known for months now. Harry Potter cannot put himself in peril at Hogwarts this year."

"This has nothing to do with Voldemort?" Harry said slowly.

Dobby flinches terribly this time. As if he had been hit.

"No, not He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named…" Dobby said.

"Is this a plot directed at me?" Harry asks.

"No, sir, muggle-born students will be targeted."

Harry jumps up, and the first thought to his mind was Lily. Despite their disagreements, she was still a friend. The first friend he ever truly made. Dobby shrunk back, terrified that Harry was on his feet with his fists clutch.

"I have a friend at Hogwarts who will be in danger. I cannot leave her." Harry said.

"Friends who don't even write to you," Dobby said.

Dobby's comment caused Harry's mood to darken. Harry's room itself to have grown dark.

"How do you know that." Harry hissed darkly.

Dobby shrunk down and step backwards a few times. He slowly pulls out a lot of envelopes from underneath his shirt.

"Harry Potter mustn't be angry. Dobby thought if Harry Potter believed his friends didn't write to him, he wouldn't go back to Hogwarts…"

The room began to shake violently as Harry shifted his eyes into its silver orbs. Ice started covering the room as the air itself become frozen. Dobby paled considerably at the sight of an angry Harry Potter.

"You mustn't be angry, Dobby did what was best for Harry Potter…" Dobby said weakly, but he started to freak out as ice began to cover his body. He drops the letter as the ice soon began to cover his body.

Dobby realized the danger he was in, and with a soft pop, disappears.

Harry calmed down the moment he saw Dobby disappeared.

At that moment, he could hear footsteps, and Vernon burst the door open.

"What are you thinking you're doing…" Vernon hissed, but Harry gives Vernon a hard look with his silver eyes, and Vernon falls back immediately. "Keep it down," Vernon hissed as he closes the door.

Harry calms down and looks at the letters.

He had letters from Lily, Artemis, Blaise even from Daphne. Daphne apparently wanted to know if he wanted to come over and meet her parents. Her little sister has also been asking questions about him. Blaise gave him an update on his studies and how his mom was proud that he befriended him.

Harry senses danger in his message. He would have to ask Artemis about that later.

Lily wrote him letters, she showed hints of anger that he wasn't writing back, but she told him she wouldn't write anymore as Ron invited her and Hermione to the Burrow for the rest of the summer. Harry realized he wouldn't be able to write her if she was with the Weasley's.

Artemis wrote him many letters and was showing great concern that he wasn't writing back.

Harry could only imagine she was panicking. With no word for him, she was assuming the worse. However, he could relax, her father was picking him up tomorrow. He was sure the Wynter's were worried sick about him.

He also had questions, questions that needed answers.

Harry wolfed his meal after he finished, he started packing his things. He wanted to be ready to go tomorrow. Hedwig gave a hoot.

"Sorry Hedwig, I'll let you out tomorrow," Harry said as he looks at his beautiful owl.

Once everything was put away, Harry climbs into his bed and falls asleep.

Samuel Wynter knew at once something was wrong. His Lord, Harry Potter, wasn't responding to his daughters' letters despite promising to write her. Even his daughter was freaking out. She attempted to head over to Private Drive to see if he was well. While he kept her in check, yet he had to admit something was very wrong.

At the crack of dawn, he was fully dressed in his best robes and appeared immediately at Private Drive. He took one step and could feel the wards coming active. Dumbledore at his finest. The Wards would have vaporized him instantly if he attempted to harm his Lord.

Samuel scuffs at the thought. He would never bring harm to his lord, his relatives were another matter. If they had harmed his lord or mistreated him, he was prepared to flay them alive.

He walks up the path and steps forward at the door. He paused as he felt eyes on him and turns around to see a woman across the street, staring at him. She closes her binds and disappears from view. He narrowed his eyes.

He was confident he placed notice me not charms on himself to prevent attraction attention. Yet that woman took notice of him immediately.

He did not recognize her, but knew at once she was Dumbledore's spy to keep an eye on his lord.

Samuel Wynter returns to the door and knocks. He waited a couple of seconds before the door opens and Petunia Dursley opens it. Her face paled significantly at the sight of him.

"Petunia," Samuel Wynter said in an even tone. "I am here to pick up my lord."

"He's asleep, I'll go get him for you…" She said weakly.

"No need, I'll wake him," Samuel said as he walks past her.

A flick of his wand told him Harry Potter was upstairs in a small bedroom.

Samuel was afraid of what he might find. He opens the door, and to his delight, his lord was already awake and putting away some last-minute things.

"Mister Wynter, you're early," Harry said in surprise.

"Forgive my intrusion, my lord, but you haven't been responding to any of my daughter's letters, so I was worried for you… safety." He said as he glances sideways at Petunia, who had followed him up the stairs.

Harry sighs.

"It's a long story, I rather leave and tell you once we're in better company," Harry said calmly.

"I can finish packing for you, my lord," Samuel said as he waves his wand, and everything fell into place.

"How will we be leaving?" Harry asks.

"Portkey," Samuel said as he looks at his lord. He sighed when he realized Harry's confused look. "Forgive me, I forget you are muggle raised. It's a form of transportation. It's not like an apparition, much safer, and a bit longer. I would suggest the Floo, but this muggle household doesn't have a floo network." Samuel said as he waves his wand, and Harry's trunk started floating. Harry grabs Hedwig's cage and walks downstairs.

"It there a backyard, my lord?"

"Yes, it's small, but they do have one," Harry said.

"Lead the way."

Samuel followed his lord to the backyard and paused as he notices the Dursley's looking at them. He says nothing as he looks away and sets the trunk down.

"You can place your owl's cage on top of your trunk, I'll be magically sending your stuff using a transportation spell design for trunks."

"The vanishing spell?" Harry said.

"You know your magic, my lord. Yes, a true wizard can send anything anywhere with the vanishing spell."

"Will Hedwig be okay?" Harry asks nervously.

"Of course, this is not the first time I've transported an owl this way."

Harry nods his head as he sets Hedwig on top of the trunk, and with a wave of his wand, Harry's trunk and owl disappeared.

Samuel then pulls out an old wizard hat and holds it out.

"Grab on my lord, we'll leave immediately."

Harry grabs hold and with a tug felt the ground and air begin to spin.

When Harry finally did land, he did so by falling on his back. Samuel pulls him up, and he sees a large house in front of him.
