Chapter 15

Akasuki:

The fiery haired vampire was on his way to his chamber, when he noticed the vice president walk past him… in hurried footsteps!? It was something quite unlike that person's usual character.

What was that?

The Kain heir was taken aback. It wasn't every day they saw their deputy leader run around the dorm like that. It surely got enough attention to bring his own feet to a pause. Akatsuki looked over his shoulder and noted how the blonde rushed down the stairs.

Where is he going?

To feed his growing curiosity the orange head knew he needed to see more. So he hid himself in a secured corner and watched from there, as the vice president opened the main door. Just as expected, it was their dorm leader that walked in… cradling a figure in his arms. Akatsuki's hazel eyes narrowed down. At first he thought it was the headmaster's daughter but the faint aroma emanating from the figure assured him that wasn't who he thought it was. This person smelled completely different. Plus the Cross Yuki has short hair whereas this person's hair was way longer.

The president and the vice president shared a very brief talk before the brunette started to climb up the stairs with the blonde silently following behind. Akatsuki tried to get a good glimpse off the person their leader had in his arms, but unfortunately the figure was almost entirely wrapped with the dark overcoat and had the face buried into his chest. Leaving the hair and those tiny feet as the only features on display.

Akatsuki stayed back a little longer and watched the pureblood enter his chamber. And that answered all the questions he had up until now. He now knows who she is! His curiosity has finally been fed but only to have another important question thrown on his plate...

.

.

.

Akatsuki returned to his room and laid down on the bed. His roommate come cousin Hanabusa was already under the blanket, fast asleep. His snores were the only source of sound in that otherwise deadly silent room.

For a moment Akatsuki just laid there, on his back, staring up at the ceiling…thinking. Then a while later he turned and looked at his cousin's peacefully sleeping face, the same question from earlier returned back into his mind again.

How would the others react…? How would Hanabusa react… more importantly how would Ruka react…?

At his point the Kain heir was no longer sure whether to be happy about this turn out of the event or be worried? Personally he really doesn't care. The pureblood's personal affairs are none of his business. The man could love who he wanted, married whom he wanted and bedded whom he wanted. It would make no difference in Akatsuki's life. So why should he care anyway and waste his time.

But unfortunately his two cousins thought differently. Their obsession with the pureblood was on a different level. Hence the pureblood's business was 100% their business as well. And sadly in a way that it affected Akatsuki as well. Which is why although at first he really didn't bother about the pureblood's guest, thinking slowly matters would solve on its own. For the first couple days people will fuss and then eventually settle down.

But now that he thought calmly about it, the more it frightened him. He was indeed afraid,

…especially for Ruka!

Takuma:

The blonde gently knocked on the wooden double-door and patiently waited till permission came from inside.

After hearing a soft "come in" he twisted the handle of the knob to the right, opened the door and stepped in.

There was no need to look for his friend, the pureblood was already seated on the designated area – behind his desk, reclining back on the chair. Although with his eyes remaining closed it appeared as if he was resting; but judging by his appearance the blonde was sure it was anything but resting. He hasn't even changed out of those clothes he came in. On top of that his attire wasn't even in best shape. There were stains of dried blood all over that crisp white shirt.

Takuma took a step closer to study his friend's face. The solemn look on the brunette's handsome face worked as a perfect form of mask. As a result the Ichijo heir failed to point out how exactly was his friend feeling. Was he exhausted… frightened… or livid!? Because at the given moment in that position it looked like the combination of all three of them.

What happened at the Shiki house?

Did Aiyora meet with some form of accident?

Did you get into fight with someone Kaname?

Whose blood is that staining your shirt?

One after another questions popped up and coiled in his brain. Then again Takuma shouldn't be blamed for feeling this way. It was very natural for him to be curious. After all no information was provided to him other than an urgent phone call from Seiran where she stated that they were coming returning from the Shiki residence and bringing Aiyora along. So what does that bit of information supposed to mean? It only worked to increase the tension and curiosity.

"So… will Aiyora-chan's visit be temporary or is this a permanent arrangement?"

His question wasn't answered, right away. The first response he got was the pureblood opening his eyelids to reveal the set of glowing red pupils. Those eyes looked horrific, like they were balls of blazing fire.

But why were his eyes burning like that? Was it his thirst and lust for blood or unfiltered wrath? If it is rage, then what is the reason behind it? What could have happened to make the usually composed brunette so angry?

It upset Takuma greatly that he couldn't tell what was wrong with his friend. Sometimes he really wished that Kaname to open up a bit more and not keep everything to himself.

As if reading his thoughts the pureblood decided to respond. However he gave his friend a long, blank stare before finally answer the question that was asked minutes ago; in an ice-cold voice.

"Would there be any problem if it is permanent?"

"No-No-No!" the blonde said nervously, while the brunette continued to watch him throwing cold glares. Takuma sighed, rolling his eyes inside. Typical Kaname – answering a question with another question.

"Um… you said earlier last month, that she is still too young to join the night class, but you –"

"I didn't bring her here so that she can join the night class," Kaname said flatly, cutting his friend off midway, his voice now icier than before. "… She'd been brought here for her own safety. The Shiki residence is no more a safe haven for Aiyora."

By now Takuma's throat was practically itching to ask 'what happened at the Shiki residence?' but what actually came out of his mouth was something entirely different.

"Oh… I see. But do you think she is matured enough to face all the complications here?"

Kaname gave shot him a 'what do you mean?' look.

"I mean with Yuuki-chan living almost next door. Do you think you will be able to give Aiyora-chan the same undivided attention here, like you used to at the Shiki house?"

Kaname remained silent. In that moment that was the most logical thing to do. After all the question Takuma asked is actually a very important question. And in all honesty the pureblood did not know the answer to that. Although the question wasn't tough, he was simply being asked to choose between the two girls. Between the queen and pawn to be specific. The answer was also simple but the situation unfortunately wasn't.

"...From what I understood Aiyora remembers nothing of Yuuki. Are you prepared for how she will react once she learns the truth?"

Kaname once more closed his eyes and this time took a deep breath resting his face on his palm. Even after holding the breath for such long time his body refused to relax. All his muscles still remained tensed. Although it wasn't anything noticeable, but the blonde who practically grew up with him – noticed his friend's discomfort almost instantly.

Takuma silently watched the other react. He intentionally brought up the sensitive topic. Especially after what Kaname has done tonight this particular topic can no longer sit in the dark. For the night class their president's fondness for the female guardian was no secret. Every single member is aware of it. Including Senri! However, Aiyora can't be put into the same category as the other members of the night class. She is his fiancée. Her right are different from all the others. What made it worse it the fact that she is young and emotional. She will probably not understand and have her heartbroken, be humiliated. And who knows how she will handle herself once the truth is thrown in her face?

That tension alone was eating Takuma's heart inside.

"I don't see how that is even relevant?" Kaname finally broke the silence between them, re-opening his eyes. "Yuuki doesn't enter the moon dorm and Aiyora does not leave the moon dorm. The two are very unlikely to cross path."

Although nothing was said with words but from the tone of the pureblood's voice it was evident that he was losing patience. So Takuma tried to change the topic.

"So where will Aiyora-chan be staying…? Do you at least have that figured…?"

Hearing this the pureblood gave a knowing smile. As if everything was figured out inside his head.

"Yes about that we need to talk Ichijo," He said gesturing the blonde to take a seat. "…Please sit down first."

Ruka:

She stepped out of her room in hushed footsteps, wearing her usual home attire of lavender colored long shirt and beige pant with a shawl thrown around her shoulder. The beautiful blonde was a light sleeper and was woken from her slumber because all the chatter outside her room. It sounded like not just one or two maids, but most of the servants were awake. At one point she even heard Seiran's voice giving orders.

So she left the room to investigate, to see what the commotion was all about at this hour. After all it is quite unlikely for their kind to be awake this early in the morning. Usually at this time the moon dorm feels like a haunted house but today the maids are walking around like it is the hour of late afternoon, the environment feels as if soon everybody would awaken.

It confused Ruka.

Nobody should be up at this time… unless the matter is of utmost importance. She thought.

And within the next couple seconds Ruka understood the urgency of the current situation. Especially when she heard voices belonging to the pureblood and Ichijo heir.

She followed the voices and found herself nearing the vice president's chamber.

Stopping at a safe distance Ruka hid herself behind a large round pillar near the stairs and observed from there.

The vice president was standing outside his room. Giving out instructions to the maids, who appeared to be moving his stuff elsewhere…

"These books here too Takuma-sama?" one of the maids asked holding a big pile of books.

"Yes, please take them all."

"What about this box?" another maid appeared with a large square sized mahogany box.

"I won't need that anymore, please throw it out."

Then leaving the blonde's form Ruka's honey eyes landed on the pureblood. The latter was actually standing inside the room, speaking to the head maid of the dorm. From his body language it appeared as though he was inspecting the room, while his words indicated he was planning a renovation.

"Here," he was showing the maid a picture. "This is what her room used to look like. Would it be possible to redecorate it the exact same way?"

"We will give our best Kuran-sama. However it may require about a week for it to be fully complete."

"That quite alright. There is no rush. Just please make sure to keep the details on the wall exactly as it shows in the picture."

"Of course!"

The overall picture now stood clear before the daughter of the Souen – Kaname has asked Takuma to move out of his room and moving back in with Senri. But why?

Why was the vice president asked to give up his room?

To whom will this room be assigned?

Is someone important coming to the academy?

These sort of questions exploded into the blonde female's head one after another like bomb. But before she could think further on the matter she noticed Seiran suddenly appear beside the Kuran heir and whisper something his ear.

Although Ruka couldn't hear a word that woman said, but understood whatever news was delivered was a bad one; because the pureblood just stashed the papers he had on his grip to the maid and rushed out of the room with the blonde and Seiran both trailing behind him.

While Ruka kept debating whether to follow them a voice called her from behind and disturbed the solution she was about to reach.

"Yo…"

She rolled her eyes and clenched the inside of her mouth. There was no need to look behind and see who it was. It was way obvious.

"What is it Akatsuki?" she hissed like a snake.

"He brought a guest last night…" he told her, keeping his voice low. Then going forward, leaning closer, he whispered so that only Ruka could hear what he was going to say "…a young female."

Because he was standing behind her, Akatsuki couldn't see the change of expression of her face but surely noticed the way how her already tightened jaw became further clenched and the hands resting by her side balled to fists.

"So...?" she tried to make it sound like she didn't care, but...

"I thought you might want to know."

"No… I don't want to know."

Kaname:

He touched her forehead and felt the skin under his fingertips burn. Her body temperature was abnormally high and was still on the verge of rising. Removing the fingers, he leaned forward and rested his own forehead on top of her, to double check. And it felt even hotter than what it was mere seconds ago. The heat radiating off her body at this rate added more to his already existing tension. There was no fever when he last checked, so where was it coming from all of a sudden? What is its actual root?

"How is she?" Ichijo's inquiry brought him out of thoughts.

"Worse than I thought!" Came Kaname's answer, followed by the command. "Bring me a thermometer, Ichijo."

"Um…Kaname," the blonde hesitated at first. Then told him with guilt laced voice. "We don't really have any thermometer here."

The brunette let out a frustrated sigh. Of course they didn't. What was he even thinking? Vampires rarely get sick! The growing tension inside has surely closed off his brain, making him unable to think clearly.

"That's alright go to the headmaster's house and ask. I'm sure he has plenty."

Takuma:

Takuma knocked on the door urgently. Being outside during bright sunshine wasn't his favorite. So he hoped to finish the assigned task as soon as possible and head back. As if his prayer was answered, the door was opened, but by a very grumpy Zero.

"What do want?" the silverrete hissed, still holding the door and not even asking him to come in.

Takuma chose to overlook the other's ill manner and putting a perfectly politely smile on his face he proceeded.

"Hello Zero, I'm here to see the headmaster. Is he home?"

Zero opened his mouth but before he could speak, another voice spoke up from behind.

"I'm right here…" the headmaster came running out of the kitchen wearing the most ridiculous yellow cartoon printed apron Takuma has ever seen.

"Come inside Ichijo-kun." The headmaster invited him in, pushing the irritated Zero aside.

The blonde vampire stepped in and unconsciously looked around to see if he could see the petite brunette anywhere. He could detect her smell but she was nowhere near in sight. And that actually made him glad. If Kaname asked anything he could simply tell him that he didn't see her at all.

"It is a rare to have a night class student visit. I'm more used to Kaname-kun dropping by. Is everything alright with him?" the headmaster inquired.

"Kaname is fine. A little busy lately, which is why he sent me instead."

"I see…" the headmaster said in a serious tone, fixing his glasses. "…so how may I help you?"

"Do you have a thermometer that can be borrowed?"

The headmaster and Zero shared a strange glance. Both wondering the same thing inside – what an odd request!

"Thermometer?" the headmaster asked, breaking the small silence. He was genuinely surprised by the odd request. "Is anyone sick?" he could not hold back from asking.

"Yes a visitor is feeling under the weather."

"A visitor?" the expression on the Cross's face changed, it hardened. "There is someone visiting the moon dorm?"

"You don't know?"

"That's weird Kaname hasn't mentioned anything!" the former hunter thought out loud. "Usually he always keeps me updated about who enters and exists the academy premises. I even saw him two nights ago, but he made no mention of any upcoming visit."

It is probably because Kaname himself didn't know two nights ago that he will be bringing her here… so soon!

Takuma moved uncomfortably on his seat. He was sure the headmaster knew nothing about Aiyora or about the arrangement that the council made between the two Kurans. So he would have to speak in a manner that wouldn't raise suspicion.

"I assure you it's actually no big deal, just a child visiting her brother." He partially told the truth, filtering his words very carefully.

"Oh poor thing!" the headmaster sympathized with the situation immediately. While Zero let out a snort.

"Her visit must have ruined. You wait here I will quickly go and bring the thermometer." With that said the man in apron ran up the stairs in a flash.

Soon as the headmaster disappeared, Yuki appeared by his side, startling the blonde a little.

"Oh Yuuki-chan, when did you come?" he asked with the sheepish smile, again trying his best to block off Zero's death glare as much as possible.

"I heard you mention that somebody is sick in the moon dorm. Is Kaname-senpai alright?"

"Don't you worry Yuuki, I assure you Kaname is quite alright and in good health." Takuma beamed her a reassuring smile that told her not to worry and added keeping that smile intact "But he misses you a lot though."

Yuki's face flushed instantly and she looked away shyly trying to throw in some words of denial.

"No I'm sure it's nothing… Kaname-senpai is a kind person to being with."

Kind to you only, Yuuki… just you…

The words came all the way up to his throat but did not leave his mouth. As they were forcefully swallowed down. Takuma tried his best to keep the smile on display intact. Whereas deep down his frown was actually double the side of the smile. In that moment he desperately wanted to tell Yuuki how cruel Kaname is capable of being… and perhaps forever will be to his youngest sister.

But he didn't, more like he couldn't…

Instead that morning the Ichijo heir left the headmaster's residence with an unsettling mind.

Hanabusa:

In the moon dorm, three days later:

"Have you heard?"

"About what?"

"About the person that's staying with the dorm president?"

"Wait a minute he brought someone in? When? Who? Don't tell me it's that disciplinary committee?"

"NO!"

"Then who?"

"Well words are being whispered all throughout the dorm that this person is his fiancée. However nothing is yet confirmed since he made no official statement."

"Have you seen her?"

"Nope. I heard from my room-mate who claimed earlier today that her lover Takero, actually saw Kuran-dojo carrying someone into his room."

The Aidou heir gritted his teeth and growled. His face perfectly portrayed how irritated he was. These its and bits of little to no information frustrated him, and put him in a very difficult situation.

The blue eyed blonde and his cousin Akasuki were seated not too far from that gossipy crowd in the living room.

Although the Kain heir could care less about the conversation taking place in the background. Hanabusa however almost had his ears pasted there. He couldn't understand how these people were so casually talking about their great supreme leader. Discussing his life like giving reviews to a product. They were openly criticizing him. One of them was even questioning his character for giving too much attention to that human guardian.

If not for Akatsuki holding him back, he Aidou Hanabusa would have screamed the day light out of those ungrateful girls for so shamelessly and disrespectfully gossiping about the pureblood.

All in all for Hanabusa it was a strange feeling. On one hand he was furious at the audacity of these people to speak of the pureblood this way. But on the other hand, deep down he was itching to know more about the pureblood's new guest in details.

Such a conflicting feeling…

It was as if he was being forced to choose between his loyalty to Kuran Kaname and the desire to know him more up-close and personally.

Senri

The Shiki heir has been standing outside the pureblood's door for quite some time now. Thinking whether he should just go in...

He knocked for several times already but no response came from inside. At first he thought the pureblood was not in there but then he was proven wrong as he felt elder's powerful aura, smelled his scent – all of which were coming from inside. Indicating that the pureblood was definitely in there. Purposely that arrogant bastard was making his presence available, yet for some damn reason wasn't responding! What kind of sick joke was this? It pissed off the usually calm Senri. He was in no mood games. He simply came here to see his Ai-chan. Just to make sure she was okay now, safe and secured. And would leave soon as it's done. The plan was that simple. But sadly the owner of this room just enjoyed making everything complicated for others.

Senri actually heard about the whole incident from his grand-uncle, Shiki Sayatohi, just yesterday! He was abroad, shooting for a big add campaign. This was – as in would have been actually the biggest project of his career. He singed this project with a lot of hope but alas had to let it all go midway. After hearing what happened with Aiyora, he couldn't bring himself to stay there any longer. Cancelling off all the commitments made, he packed up and rushed back taking the next available flight.

His grand-uncle was very disappointed by this action. While delivering the news he also highly discouraged Senri against the idea of coming back like that; informing him it was no use since Aiyora was already taken from their family by Kuran Kaname. So she was the Kuran pureblood's responsibility now. Then Sayatohi further told him to not waste his precious time thinking about his half-sister and instead should concentrate on building his career.

But who said Senri was going to listen?

He, Shiki Senri not worrying for Aiyora…? It was impossible! It was as impossible as to see sunlight during twilight.

He once made the vow to cherish his precious Ai-chan and put her above all else. No power in this world could make him go back on those words. He will stay by Aiyora's side till the end of his life. This is one fact about his life that shall forever remained unchanged.

...because nothing comes before you Aiyora and nothing ever will!

He knocked again one last time. The result remained unchanged.

At this point the model's patience was running thin. He figured the pureblood will not verbally give him the permission to enter. Seeing no other options available he made up his mind to just walk in any way – scratch his permission and fuck the consequences. First he will see with his own eyes if his beloved half-sister is alright. Then he will gladly accept any type of punishment the pureblood will throw at him for trespassing.

Senri felt relief wash over him as he found the pureblood's office empty. He had no desire to face the smug bastard right at the entrance. The latter would definitely not let him see Aiyora. Speaking off her –he detected her scent floating in the air. Her lavender and peppermint aroma added a calming essence to the air. The more he breathed the soother he felt. This scent was coming from the direction of the bedroom, meaning Aiyora is there.

Following the lead of the scent he headed towards the direction of the pureblood's bedroom. Unlike the rest who just had a room in the dorm –that too shared. The pureblood actually had a full suite all to himself – that came with a separate bedroom and huge living area which he partially made it into his office!

.

.

.

Soon as he saw her his breath got caught inside the throat. His heart rate dropped drastically. Instantly the Shiki heir closed down his eyes. He has never felt so ashamed to be the son of Shiki Midori up until today. He couldn't even bring himself to look at Aiyora. More than countable times he had watched her sleep. She was usually the cutest and most at peace during that time. But now… laying on the bed, tucked under the thick comforter, she looked miserable. She looked like she was in pain.

Kaname was sitting right beside her, with a bowl of water and two sets of cloth which were being soaked in water and placed on her forehead alternatively. The pureblood for sure sensed his presence but made no attempt to acknowledge him.

He stood there for a while and silently watched how tenderly the pureblood was tending to Aiyora. It was assured that she was in safe hand. Also there nothing that Senri could do at this point. He was useless. If anything at this moment Aiyora needed her onii-sama the most. And he was glad that she had him by her side.

The Shiki heir couldn't stand there any longer. Never in life had he wanted to see Aiyora in such state. He always wanted to see his Ai-Chan happy and in her playful, mischievous self. Not like this, where she looked like she was battling against death.

But just as the model turned on his heels to walk out – a voice stopped him.

"You're leaving…just like that?" the pureblood asked, unmoving from his position. "Are you not going to come closer and see her?"

"How is she doing?" Senri asked going around the bed. Sounding genuinely concerned.

"Still alive." Kaname answered flatly, then added the back handed comment while turning over the wet-cloth "… to your mother's disappointment."

Senri's jaw tightened, he gritted his teeth yet remained silent. After all he was in no position to talk back especially when the damage was caused by his own mother.

"Will she be staying here from now on?" Senri asked in hopes to carry on a decent conversation. After a moment of awkward silence. But that attempt was ruined as the pureblood opened his mouth.

"Are you suggesting I send her back, even after what your mother did?"

Those words took Senri off guard. The pureblood clearly twisted the meaning. Because in no way was Senri suggesting Aiyora to be sent back home.

Kaname also had no intention of getting into any sort of argument at this point. To be honest he knew exactly what Senri meant and he meant well. It was his very own complex mind which at this point couldn't handle seeing the Shiki heir at such close proximity. It was just that, the very sight of this maroon haired vampire boiled the blood flowing through his vessels. It made him angry beyond what he could imagine.

"That was not what I said." Senri immediately put his foot down in his own defense. "I simply wanted to know if she will be staying here permanently. Even if she does I have no problem. In fact I want her to stay here, always did…"

Kaname did not like where this conversation was going.

"...besides it's not me who sees her as an obstacle on the way…" unlike you. That part was left unsaid.

The brunette stopped mid-action – of changing the cloth on Aiyora forehead. He was astonished, borderline disturbed by the aristocrat's growing bold attitude. This guy was starting to become Kiryu number two.

Blinded by Aiyora's love this idiot forgot whom he was dealing with.

All Kaname would need to do is let out some of his power and the Shiki heir would be nothing but a pile of ashes. For a moment there the brunette actually had the temptation to do so. But the rational part of his brain reminded how severe the coming consequences will be. It will permanently damage whatever progress he has made with Aiyora so far. She will definitely turn against him and that will give Rido all the more power to take everything down.

Which is why now Kaname opted for the safer option. Like Senri he too decided to use words as weapon. What people say these days – a Tit for Tat!

"Ah big words out of small mouth… I see… interesting…" he taunted the model with a proud smirk spreading across his lips.

"…need I remind you, that it was you who vowed to be by her side all the time! It was you who promised to protect her. It was you who claimed to be the 'lucky jasmine' to her 'lavender'.

But what a cruel twist of fate that in the end it was I who had to save her from your vicious mother. Whereas you the one who is supposed to protect her – was nowhere in sight."

That was a serious low-blow. Senri felt like his heart was ripped out of his chest. That's how excruciating the pain was for the model as the pureblood referred to the conversation they shared inside the limousine that night while returning from the Shiki house. It was where Senri took the chance to boast about his bond with Aiyora and challenged Kaname that no harm shall come to Aiyora as long as he exists. But in the end…

The Shiki heir cast his eyes down finding no words in his defense this time while Kaname simply entertained himself to his cousin's pale and embarrassed face for some time before breaking the growing icy silence.

"Aiyora no longer has any ties with the Shiki family," the brunette informed cupping the sleeping maiden's face, feeling the softness of his skin under his palm. He waited a while for the other occupant to reaction to this action but when nothing came, he continued, revealing the most crucial part of the information. "… nor are any member of that family allowed anywhere near her."

For Shiki Senri the whole world seemed to stop instantly!

He gulped hard, making the movement of his Adam's-apple evident. Every muscle in his body became tight. His heart initially stopped before bursting into rapid drumming beats afterwards. As he finally registered what the pureblood actually meant.

Kaname smirked listening to the increasing heartrate of the level b. It was ironic to see how his pride was crumbled to dust under his shoes in just a matter of time, that too with only few realistic words.

"But then Aiyora is very attached to you..." Kaname said out of the blue.

Senri looked up with his eyes now narrowed down. He was taken aback by the pureblood's sudden change of tone. But ignoring him the latter just went on keeping his focus on the sleeping girl, acting like she was the only one that mattered at this moment. Which Senri knew, clearly wasn't the case.

"…She will be heartbroken if I forcefully pull you two apart. Her condition is delicate, I don't wish to put more strain on her. Which is why I will make an exception. So that you can stand by her side and serve her for the rest of your remaining life. Does that sound fair?" he added the last question turning towards the younger male with a mocking smile.

Senri gave him no response. He only silently accepted the verdict. When inside he was shocked and couldn't help but think what the pureblood is actually up to?

"Do not forget, that it was your mother who almost sucked the life out of her. Not sure if Shiki-donno told you; but she even went as far as to try and convince me to kill Aiyora."

That part was unknown to the Shiki heir. Kaname guessed it right. His grand-uncle did hide this fact.

"Your mother has committed one of the greatest taboo a noble vampire of her status could. So as her son, you must pay Aiyora back with your own flesh and blood. You will continue to exist, but only for Aiyora. All your personal happiness must be forsaken for her happiness. And never question why. Because this is what the Shiki clan owes to her. This is what you owe her."

There was a moment of tensed silence which was broken by the Shiki heir minutes later.

"And if I fail to comply?" Senri asked with the intention to test the pureblood.

"In that case I don't think there is any need for you to remain in Cross Academy. You may pack your bag and leave before dawn." Although it was said politely but that was a direct order.

"...However if you wish to stay, you stay only to serve Aiyora. Am I understood…?"

"…Yes." Senri muttered under his breath, in a soft defeated voice.

Takuma:

"Please take some rest," Takuma told the pureblood who was in his office, seated behind the desk, writing. "…You look exhausted Kaname."

Without even looking up or pausing his writing the handsome brunette responded.

"It's quite alright Ichijo, don't concern yourself too much."

Hearing that Takuma sighed in defeat. Still flashed his friend a look of understanding. He knew there was no point in telling Kaname what to do; the latter wouldn't listen. However he couldn't give up on his efforts either. Being the pureblood's only friend how could he not worry? How could he just sit back and relax when his friend has so much burden sitting on his shoulders? Despite being all powerful and mighty, end of the day Kaname too was a person who had feelings and emotions… although he never really showed! But that's another story for another time...

It's been almost a week since the incident at the Shiki residence.

Aiyora has been brought to the Academy in an unconscious state and she hasn't awakened since. Nor has she shown any sign of awakening. So when that could possibly happen still remained a big question. Sometime in between her conditioned went down from bad to worse. Suddenly there was a rise in her temperature with no symptoms of dropping. That lasted about couple days with absolute no change at all. However the good thing is now she is showing signs of improvement, such as – the fever finally went down! And no other strange symptoms showed up either.

And as for Kaname, he wasn't in best of shape. He neither slept, nor ate properly. He stopped coming down to the dining room during regular lunch and dinner hours. Though his meals were sent up to his room but trays usually returned with food being barely touched. No wonder why the usually form fitting shirts appeared to fit unusually loose lately. The brunette also rarely left his suite, he attended no classes since then and spent most of his time sitting by Aiyora's side. Patiently waiting for her to wake up.

"By the way what are you writing?" the blonde tried to break the cold silence between them.

"The council wants a detailed report on Aiyora's current condition." The brunette informed flatly.

Takuma's form tensed hearing that piece of information. He couldn't stop thinking what Kaname was writing about. Was he filing a complaint about lady Shiki? Should she even be fully blamed for this turn out of event? As per his knowledge Aiyora was warned many times to keep distance from her. Both Kaname and Senri warned young maiden, but the stubborn girl listened to neither. And the result was…

"So Kaname…um… I was wondering..." Takuma debated a moment before asking. "…what is happening with lady Shiki?"

"She is locked up for now. Till the council decides on the appropriate punishment."

Takuma's narrowed his eyes. Curious as to what his friend was referring to.

"What punishment?"

"The council is debating whether to execute her or put her in an institution for life."

That piece of information had the blonde's forest green eyes go wide. His fists tightened at his sides. Not only that, it also intensified his heartbeat. Making him frozen to the ground. The Ichijo heir could not understand how the brunette was saying that so casually. Like he was talking about the weather or grocery shopping. It was Lady Shiki for heaven's sake – Senri's mother! And Aiyora too, adored her very much. During most his visit she spoke very highly off the woman. And praised her at every chance she got. But now that's probably just the past that the young pureblood would most likely prefer to forget. Then again, Aiyora will not appreciate something that will hurt Senri… right?

This time Kaname paused his pen and looked up to study the blonde. The expression on the latter's face screamed out shock and unfiltered rage. That he was not even trying to hide.

"Why do you look so surprised? It's not like you are unfamiliar with the law, you know how the system works in our society." The brunette reminded the blonde, who in turn just gritted his teeth together.

Kaname smirked, amused by his friend's reaction.

For Takuma the pureblood's words just entered through his one ear and left out of the other. At the moment he could only think about Senri. The poor boy didn't have his father and now his mother will also be taken away from him? The lonely soul wouldn't even have anyone left in this world to call his own.

"Are you upset, Ichijo?" the blonde tensed the way the brunette sounded. His voice was so full of confidence, like he already knew what the former was thinking.

"Are you perhaps feeling sympathy, because of your close ties with the woman's son?"

Takuma didn't answer. There was no need for that. Kaname was right. He was indeed feelings partial because the woman in question is Senri's mother!

"So are they going to…?" Takuma found the courage to ask but couldn't bring himself to finish.

"They are waiting for my approval." Kaname confirmed. "My words would perhaps make their decision making easier."

"And…which route do you intend to take? Imprison her or execute her?"

"Actually I am not going to be the one who will make that decision. I am simply waiting for that person to wake up."

Now that was something Takuma did not expect to hear. So he asked with disbelief "Aiyora…?"

Kaname nodded his head confirming.

"This is wrong in every level Kaname!" Takuma exclaimed, his eyes blazing with rage. "Aiyora may not be in the right state of mind when she awakens. She will most likely say something rash, in her emotional state. Besides she is too young to make such crucial decisions, especially when it involves the life of another person. One wrong word out of her mouth can change lives forever. Kaname you have to understand-."

"The only thing I understand is that I need to be fair to the child whose blood was mercilessly sucked out."

Takuma was stunned he has never heard Kaname sound like that.

"Aiyora loved lady Shiki like her own mother and look where that got her today…" Kaname paused to release a sigh before continuing further.

"I am well aware of the fact that she feels very dearly about Lady Shiki. Which is why I will leave the ultimate decision on her hand. Otherwise it would be unfair…

...and I am certain that AIyora will choose wisely."

.

.

.

Their conversation ended a while back. Kaname resumed back to his writing expecting the other would soon leave but Ichijo only remained unmoving from his place, signaling he still wasn't done talking.

"Is there anything else you want to share, Ichijo?"

"Yes, it's about Yuuki-chan…"

There was an uneasy silence which was soon broken by the pureblood's heavy exhaled sigh.

"What about her?"

"She is worried about you Kaname." Takuma told him and then proceeded to inform. "…she approached me a couple days ago during the switchover, asking if you were okay. Not seeing you attend classes for a whole week has made her worried." Then after a pause he sheepishly added. "And I think after seeing me grab the thermometer that day she naturally became more worried."

That piece of information brought a smile on Kaname's face. On one hand he allowed his heart to take delight and pride for the fact that Yuuki cared about him. While on the other hand, at the same time it also weighted down the same organ with guilt. After all he absolutely hated causing her to worry.

"Maybe you should pay her a visit." Ichijo added as a suggestion seeing the pureblood's sudden change of expression. In a matter of second his happiness just turned to worry. That was the effect Yuuki had on him.

"I will…" the brunette declared closing his pen and reclining back on the seat. "…but only after Aiyora awakens."

Now that response shocked Takuma, also. He could not believe what he just heard, that too out of Kaname's mouth. It made him think again and again if his friend was alright in health and mental state. After all it was not at all normal for him to choose anyone above his dearest Yuuki!

What the hell is happening? That was the thought in Takuma's head when he exited his friend's office that morning.

Kaname:

He stood before the window, in straight posture and hands crossed over his chest, silently gazing at the burning sunset.

From his position, inside his room; Kaname could see everything. The school building, the sun-dorm, including the headmaster's guest house and personal residence, and the forest beyond. He could also see the night class, as they gathered in front of the gate waiting for it to open. And the anticipating day class girls along with that wretched eyesore Kiryu – trailing behind him, his precious girl Yuuki on the other side of the gate.

As usual Yuuki was struggling to keep those vulgar girls at bay; whereas that lazy, good-for-nothing silver haired guardian was only leaning against a tree-trunk. Just as the gates opened the excited girls pushed Yuuki to the ground in order to reach for their beloved idols.

Inside his room, Kaname took a deep breath in order to calm his rising temper down. If only those girls knew how much he despised them or how he had restrain himself from casing them harm, for constantly hurting his Yuuki at every chance… they would probably quit the academy in the very next breath.

The brunette continued to watch the whole scene play out with absolute no interest.

As per norm Aidou led the group out of the dorm. He continued flirting with the day class girls, like he did every other day. Senri and Rima walked side by side. Akatsuki walked behind Ruka. Takuma was the last person to exit the dorm. As usual he was the one leading the night class today. As he had been doing for the past week.

With his one hand Kaname touched the glass of the window while watching Yuuki approach Ichijo.

His heart almost stopped!

Her worried face stabbed him in the heart. He absolutely loathed to see her like this. He promised Juuri that he would look after Yuuki, keep her safe and protect her. But here he was causing her to worry.

But didn't Kuran Juuri ask you to watch over both her daughters…? A voice inside him asked. And Kaname did everything in his power to block that voice. Because in the end it will not be possible to save both. One needs to be sacrificed for the other to live. He only hoped Kuran Juuri would understand.

His trail of thoughts abruptly stopped as his ears picked up the sudden sound of rustling. Looking over the shoulder Kaname noticed very subtle movement on the bed. His heart gave out thudding beats. Relief spread all throughout his body and a very small not-so-noticeable smile took over his lips.

Aiyora is waking up; finally after weeks of staying in unconscious state.

He rushed towards the bed, sat down beside her, and placed a palm over her head.

Her eyes slowly cracked open, revealing those large blue orbs which in that moment reminded him of the sky. A bright day's sky. Something that he can only see from indoor, enjoy with his eyes, but never get the real feel of its beauty.

She blinked several times till her vision cleared. Only to look at him then with scrutinizing eyes. As if even now she was trying to study him.

Kaname watched her for a moment with a warm gaze. Inside he felt relieved, so relieved that he – himself couldn't understand why he felt such strange way.

"Aiyora…?" he called her in a voice that was tender, real and genuine. Something that was only used with Yuuki all these times. Here is the thing he may have been tender with Aiyora for the sake of winning her but never real and genuine until today.

"Onii-sama…!" she responded almost chocking in her own voice. She looked more confused than ever. Though no words were uttered, but just from one look she gave Kaname already knew what she was thinking. She was wondering where lady Shiki was.

"What are you doing here? Where is everyone?" Aiyora asked while trying to get up. Only to have Kaname place a hand over her chest to prevent that. And slowly push her back down on the bed.

"Where is everyone? And why are you here?" she continued to demand.

"The ones you're looking for, they are not here."

Aiyora became uncomfortable, more like tensed after hearing that. She threw him glare with the strength she could master demanding an explanation. But of course Kaname gave her none.

Instead what he said was "Relax, you're safe now."

There was a moment of absolute silence between them during which Aiyora absently looked around, to get an idea of where she was. Only to finally realize she was no longer in her room. Nor was she at the Shiki residence, but rather in a place that was foreign to her.

"Where am I?" she panicked. Looking around again to try and make sense of where she was.

"Onii-sama… where am I?"

Kaname only smiled. Entertaining himself to her reactions for the time being. And that reaction of his pissed her off. At this point she definitely didn't have the time for his mindless shitty games.

"Kaname onii-sama where have you brought me?" she asked again, seriously. But her onii-sama's reaction remained unchanged. And that ticked off the time bomb! Even before she could realize she absolutely exploded. She grabbed the man in front by his collar and pulled him closer and screamed.

"YOU SOLD ME TO TRADERS DIDN'T YOU!?" her accusation took Kaname by surprise. He was quite surprised by how wild her imagination could actually run. For a moment there he just remained at loss of words. After all it was the first time he was accused of such filthy act.

"WHERE HAVE YOU BROUGHT ME?"

"Aiyora…" he placed a hand on her head in an attempt to calm her down. But it didn't really work. Thank God the night class was in session. At the rate at which kept Aiyora would have ruined his reputation in a second.

"WHOM HAVE YOU SOLD ME TO?"

"Calm down Aiyora," but she only slapped his hand away. "I haven't sold you to anyone."

"THEN WHERE AM I?" she demanded, shaking him as vigorously as possible despite in her weak state.

"At Cross Academy..." he replied, in a voice slightly louder than usual to have her listen. Then added with a smile and in softer. "You're new home."

"…"

Now it was Aiyora's turn to be at loss of words and more precisely be surprised.

I'm at Cross Academy… already?

a.n: Thank you all for reading. Hope you enjoyed. This chapter was smaller compared to the last one but then again it's quite difficult to manage big chapters.

First of all I hope you guys aren't surprised by Aiyora's first reaction when she opened her eyes. She basically panicked finding herself somewhere foreign with just Kaname alone. And its natural for her to feel this way. after the taste of betrayal she had, she definitely wouldn't be feeling safe with kaname either. according to her brain if Shiki Midori can kill her Kuran Kaname can definitely sell her!

Anyways moving on... Aiyora is finally in Cross Academy. So finally the story is starting. what do you think will happen? Can Aiyora and Senri be as close as before when the whole night class is watching them. Or will Kaname get in the way? Speaking of Kaname - don't you guys think he is in even bigger complicated state? Yuuki and Aiyora both are now living within the same vicinity. Can he give enough time to Aiyora with Yuuki being there? Or can he show the same affection to Yuuki so openly with his fiancée being present there?

What is going to happen?... honestly even I don't know. Let me know your opinion.

See you all in next chapter, until then stay happy and stay healthy. XOXO.
