Magical Origins

Year 2: Clash in the Alley

It has been three weeks since Harry arrived at the Wynter's. The Morgan's and Pearce's showed up once awhile. However, Harry enjoyed his time with the Wynter's. He has never had so much over the summer holidays.

The best part was when Samuel Wynter and Isabelle Morgan showed up at the House of Lords meeting.

Harry smiled at the memory.

Memory Reflection Charm

Harry paces behind Samuel Wynter and Isabelle Morgan.

"Samuel," Lucius Malfoy said, bringing everyone's attention to the new party that just arrived. "You have no right to sit among us."

"I'm afraid Lord Malfoy, that you will find that I do," Samuel said calmly. Everyone stared at him.

Malfoy sneered.

"You are not a Great House, you are a Vassal, do not overstep your boundaries or forget your place," Malfoy said coldly.

"I am more than aware of my place Lucius," Samuel said calmly. "I have brought my lord with me, he has a letter in his hands that should address the matter of my attendance."

Lucius said nothing as Samuel sends the letter to Cornelius Fudge, who was sitting in the middle of the room.

"Harry Potter has named Samuel Wynter to be his Regent Lord." Cornelius Fudge stated in the room. Fudge said out loud.

Lucius visibly flinches as he grips his cane tightly.

"Cornelius, you cannot accept this." Lord Nott said. "A Regent Lord hasn't sat within this chamber in over a hundred years."

"That may be true, a Regent Lord has the right to seat among us if, and only if the said lord is underage or is away." Lady Amelia Bones said sharply. "For House Potter, a Regent Lord is the best they can do right now, seeing how the future Lord Harry Potter is too young to sit here."

"There is no need to fuss, in case you forgotten Lord Nott, I too am a Regent Lord in place of my grandson." Augusta Longbottom said calmly.

"You force him to make you Regent Lord." Lord Nott said.

"Enough." Lord Marcus Greengrass said as he folds his hand and glances around the room. "A Regent Lord can be appointed by the heir or the heir guardian. This matter is pointless and a waste of time. Even if many of us disagree with this, Harry Potter has already spoken of this matter." His words left no room for argument.

"Please take your seats, the session is about to begin," a witch said. Everyone got in their seats and sat down calmly. All chatter ceased.

"The floor has accepted the presence of one Arthur Weasley on his muggle protection act." A witch by the door said.

A wizard in moderate robes walked in and stood in the middle of the room. He had red hair, and Harry could see this man was, without a doubt, Ron Weasley's father.

"Thank you, my lords, for accepting my presence." Arthur Weasley said calmly. "I believe we wizards and witches must take further action to protect muggles from the misuse of magic…."

"What does he want exactly?" Harry asks in a small whisper.

"To put laws to enforce protection against muggles," Samuel said.

"The problem is, we're already putting in a lot of time and effort into these matters, and there haven't been any real problems with muggles," Isabelle said.

"Arthur," Lucius called out. Arthur Weasley stops and glares hard at Lucius. "You are aware that… we're already stretched to our limits on muggle protection. Now you wish to add more work, with money and people we don't have. If I'm not mistaken, you have created five muggle departments. In my opinion, they're a waste of time and money if we start throwing galleons at a problem that isn't our concern."

"Protecting muggles is our responsibility as members of the magical community." Arthur nearly shouted.

"I agree with Lucius," Isabelle called out. "Our budgets are stretch to the limit, not to mention these new… departments are starting to become a burden. We got to search and rescue for muggles. We've got several communities migration policy that has been problematic. You are aware there are a few magical communities left. Now you wish for us to merge in a world we don't belong in." Isabelle said.

"Muggles need our help. They cannot…." Arthur began.

"Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the last time we attempted to live peacefully with muggles, they hunted us down for over two centuries. We separated and created barriers to live in peace. Now you want us to throw down these barriers and solve muggle problems that they are making themselves? We have our own problems to worry about." Isabelle said out loud. Many lords nodded their heads in agreement.

"That may be," Lord Nathan Jones said. "However, Arthur Weasley isn't wrong. There are… those who would attack a muggle for no reason. Putting our Statue of Secrecy at risk." He stated calmly.

Again, these words were met with agreement of nods.

"What I'm trying to do…" Arthur Weasley said, but he was cut off.

"I think we should postpone this discussion for a later date." Lord Marcus Greengrass said.

"Is there a second?" Cornelius Fudge called out.

Lord Ibrahim Smith raised his hand.

"All in favor?" Fudge said.

Lady Augusta Longbottom, Lady Amelia Bones, and Lord Nathan Jones raised their hands.

"The vote is five to nine, the Muggle Protection Act will be postponed for a later date." Minister Fudge said.

For the next couple of hours, witches and wizards appeared before the House of Lords. Many were trying to legalize new potions or spells. Some were trying to get laws put into place.

Harry said nothing when the day was called to an end as he left with Samuel and Isabelle.

Basically, being a Great Family meant deciding things for the magical world and the current region.

Memory Reflection Charm Ends

"Oh, Harry," Artemis called out as she walks in his room wearing just her underwear.

Harry tried hard not to get a reaction, but it was so hard when he had a beautiful girl teasing him relentlessly. He turns his head and worked hard not to show his crimson cheeks.

"Artemis, please put on some clothes," Harry said.

She smiles as she looks at him.

"Our Hogwarts letter arrived. We're going shopping." She said as she turns around and walks out of the room. She made sure he could see her ass shake with each step before she disappears down the hall.

Harry wipes his face with his sleeve as he tries to calm down.

"She does that on purpose, I swear she just does that to get a reaction out of me," Harry said to himself as he puts on his robes.

Harry walks downstairs as the Wynter's were drinking tea at their counter.

"Your Hogwarts letter." Olivia Wynter said as she hands him his letter.

Harry opens it and scans his book list.

"Who is Gilderoy Lockhart?" Harry asks.

At the mention of Gilderoy Lockhart, Oliva and Samuel both had looks of disgusts on their faces.

"Please tell me…" Olivia said as she pulls out Harry's letter and looks at it.

"I got Gilderoy Lockhart, too, for nearly all my class books," Artemis said as she scans her list. Her mother grabs her list too and looks at it.

"Our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher must be a fan of Gilderoy Lockhart," Harry said.

"No, it is Gilderoy Lockhart," Olivia said in disgust.

"Who is he?" Harry asks.

"The man has no shame," Olivia said, leaving her comment to raise questions in Artemis and Harry.

"He once hit on Olivia some years ago," Samuel said in disgust.

"The man has no shame. He's a glorified attention seeker who walks around in fame." Olivia said in disgust.

"Isn't he the wizard who has countless adventures and has done countless things," Artemis said slowly.

"He is, for ten years, he's been a star who has done countless deeds. He's published countless books about his adventures." Samuel replies.

"He also sleeps with countless witches. He doesn't care if they're married or not. However, once he sleeps with them, he forgets about them. He once tried to pull the same thing on me." Olivia said in disgust, the mere memory caused her to scowl.

"Most of these books are rubbish. I'll make sure you both get books you need. Especially you Artemis, you're in N.E.W.T.s this year. You need the best books to advance to your next years," Samuel said.

"How are we getting to Diagon Alley?" Harry asks.

"The Floo. It's quick and safe. Though it can be scary for first time users." Olivia said, calmly.

"I'll go first," Samuel said as he grabs a pot by the fireplace. He grabs some powder and throws it in the fire.

"Diagon Alley." He said and steps into the flame and disappears from view.

"You throw the Floo powder into the fire and speak the destination you want to go. Speak clearly as if you speak wrongly, you could end up, well anywhere. Best to go with Artemis." Olivia said as Artemis walks forward, shaking her hips. Again Harry tried hard not to get a reaction. Harry calms his breathing and steps in the fireplace with Artemis. He looks at Olivia, who had a sweet smile on her face. She knew what her daughter was doing and didn't mind it. Harry was shocked that she would be okay with it.

"Say, Diagon Alley," Artemis said as she holds the powder in her hand. She throws it to the ground as smoke rose up.

"Diagon Alley," Harry said just before he coughs.

Both of them spun through the vortex before they popped out of another fireplace. Harry looks around and could see he was in the Leaky Cauldron.

"I see you were successful," Samuel said as he stood in front of the fire. A soft pop revealed Olivia standing beside her husband.

"When can I learn how to do that?" Harry asks eagerly.

"In your sixth year," Artemis said. "I'm going to learn that this year at Hogwarts. Apparition is dangerous to learn. Even harder to master. You need to be under full supervision as you learn this skill. Many witches and wizards splinch themselves." Artemis said.

"Err… splinch?" Harry said nervously.

"It's what happens when you leave behind, or a body part comes undone. This is also known as an improper apparition. As you learn, train healers and specialists will be watching and observing you." Olivia said, calmly.

"If not treated right away, some witches and wizards will die," Samuel said.

Harry paled, knowing this was a great ability.

Then Harry paused as his eyes open wide. It was a veg memory, but he remembers it clearly.

"I think I've done it before," Harry said slowly.

"What?" Artemis said in shock.

Harry explains the day he was running from his cousin at school and how he turns a corner only to reappear on the school roof.

"That couldn't have been an apparition," Samuel said as he brought his hand up to his chin, telling them he was thinking hard. "There have been rumors, stories even of different forms of an apparition. Muggles call it teleportation. However, it has never been fully explored."

"Don't try that again, it could be a disaster if you do," Olivia said calmly.

"We should get shopping before it's late," Artemis said.

"You are correct, you want to get the gold we need as we do our shopping?" Olivia said, turning to her husband.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Samuel asks.

"I will. I'll look after them," Olivia said with a smile.

"Oh right, my key," Harry said, handing his Gringotts key to Samuel.

"I see you're already familiar with the policy," Samuel said.

"If you're a Vassal, then that means you can't steal from me."

"True, and I have no desire to steal from you," Samuel said with a smile.

"We'll be at Madam Malkin's, then we'll be refilling their potion ingredients. Though," Olivia said as she paused in between her sentence.

"What is it?"

"I've been thinking, Artemis already has a secure trunk, I think Harry needs one as well," Olivia said slowly.

"Do I really need one…" Harry began.

"No, it would be wise to have a secure trunk. While theft doesn't really happen at Hogwarts, that doesn't mean students won't hesitate to break into your trunk to steal your belongings. Also, a secure trunk has magical compartments, allowing you to store more things with better security." Samuel said.

"You best get going, there's going to be a line," Olivia said to her husband, who nods his head and walks out the door.

"Let's go," Olivia chirped.

Harry followed Olivia as he sides by the side with Artemis.

Diagon Alley was crowded. Countless Hogwarts students were trying to get all their shopping done as early as possible.

They enter the shop, and Harry could see several Hogwarts students, whose name he did not know were getting new robes. Harry needed fresh robes as he grew several inches. Even Artemis was getting new robes.

Olivia Wynter said nothing as she sits down and grabs a Witch Weekly magazine.

Harry said nothing as the measuring tape measure him.

The door opens, and Harry's attention was drawn to two girls and a redhead walking in.

"Honestly, Ron, what is your problem?" Hermione said.

"It's not my fault, my wand…" Ron said, holding up his wand that looks like it had snapped in half. "Please lend me some Galleons so I can buy a new one." Ron pleaded.

"I wouldn't," Harry stated calmly.

Ron turns to look at him, and a face of disgust appears on his face.

"Potter!" Ron shouted, causing everyone to turn to look at him. "What are you doing here?" He snarls.

"Getting new robes, by the look of things… you need some yourself." Harry said calmly. It was true, Ron's robes were incredibly short. You could see his worn-out shoes and shins.

"Don't you dare insult my family." Ron snaps.

"How did I do that?" Harry asks.

Ron bellowed and pointed his wand at Harry. However, Olivia Wynter was on her feet in an instant. Her wand looking straight at Ron.

"You may be underage." She hissed. "But I cannot allow you to threaten my lord."

"Calm down, Ron, we're here to get new robes, not pick fights," Lily said as she walks past Ron and gets on a stool. Hermione grabs Ron's arm and lowers it.

"He didn't mean it," Hermione said in an apologetic tone.

"Muggleborn, am I correct?" Olivia Wynter said, looking at Hermione coldly.

"Yes," Hermione said carefully.

"She's a know-it-all," Harry stated calmly.

Hermione said nothing to correct Harry knowing this statement was true.

"Let me give you a warning," Olivia said coldly. "One cannot just threaten another in the magical world without there being consequences. Your friend, the Weasley, knows this. If he is not careful, he'll land himself and his family in deep trouble." Olivia finally lowers her wand.

"It's really is Harry Potter." A girl shouted in delight. The room of girls squealed in delight.

"Back to your robes," Olivia shouted. The girls said nothing but eyes Harry carefully.

"Ron gets up here, I'll buy you new robes," Lily said.

"I really need a new wand," Ron mutters as he walks forward. Harry said nothing as Ron walk past him and ignores the dirty look he got.

"By the way, Harry," Lily said. "Did you hear that Gilderoy Lockhart is going to be giving out sign copies of 'Magical Me' today?"

"He's here!" Harry said in shock. Out of the corner of his eye, he could have sworn he saw Olivia Wynter threw up in her mouth. She beats her chest to try to calm herself.

"I hear he's a great wizard. Accomplish many things." Hermione said in her usual know it all voice.

"Are his books even that good?" Lily asks.

"I haven't checked, but I've heard good things," Hermione said in excitement.

The door opens again, causing everyone to turn to see a female redhead standing there.

"Are you three almost done? We have to get your books." She said.

"They're done." Madam Malkin said. "So are you, my dears." She added to Harry and Artemis.

They said nothing as they walked out.

"How many robes did you buy?" Harry asks Artemis.

"Twelve, you?"

"Ten," Harry said with a laugh.

Olivia gets up and follows them out the door. The Gryffindor trio walks out behind them.

"Ron, there you are. I thought we told you we get you second-hand robes. You can't afford any new robes." Arthur Weasley said.

"Lily bought them," Ron mutters.

"Please, my soul, Harry Potter." Arthur Weasley said as he looks at Harry.

Now Harry felt really uncomfortable. Olivia Wynter steps in front of Harry blocking Arthur Weasley's attempt to shake his hand.

"Mister Weasley, we must really be on our way, we have our own shopping to do," Olivia said in a cold voice.

"Of course, if you're not too busy, you're welcome to shop with us." Arthur Weasley said in a quick voice.

"What!" Ron shouted.

"I think that's a wonderful idea." Mrs. Weasley said before Olivia Wynter could object.

"You're off to buy books, we must get potion ingredients and supplies…" Olivia began.

"We can always get our books later. It would be good for the kids to shop together." Mrs. Weasley said in a quick voice. It was clear she wasn't going to accept no.

"I don't see the harm in you… tagging along." Olivia said slowly. It was clear she had no desire to spend time with the Weasley's. It was also clear that she was trying to dodge them.

Harry groans as he realized he was going to be shopping with Ron Weasley. However, he slowly smiles when he realized something.

"It's okay, Olivia, I don't mind them tagging along," Harry said calmly.

Artemis realized Harry had evil intentions in mind and quickly caught on what he was implying.

Olivia seemed to have realized it too as Harry was holding his pouch.

Lily had questionable eyes as she looks at Harry. She knew first hand Harry hated spending time with Ron.

With a large pack, they went to Apothecary, and Harry and Artemis quickly bought the best items in the store. The Weasley's look at their money and knew they couldn't afford even a cauldron for their children. That was until Harry paid for everything.

"Here, Harry, you'll want to buy these," Artemis said as she picks up some stones. Harry read the signs and knew at once she was right. Bezoar, ten galleons each.

Harry grabs three and watches with great pride, Ron grinding his teeth in frustration.

"I want to head to the Quidditch store. I think I'm going to need a broom kit for my nimbus." Harry said, enjoying the look on Ron's face.

The Weasley family followed the Wynter's and Harry as Harry and Artemis were doing their best to contain their laughter. Lily knew at once what Harry was doing, and she had a disapproving look on her face.

Even Hermione was showing concern.

Harry said nothing but looks at the broom kit.

"Here, these are good for Nimbus," Artemis said.

They walked out of the store, and another redhead came up to them.

"Percy, where did you go?" Mrs. Weasley said.

"I ran into a friend," Percy said calmly. It was then he notices a wave of white hair. He looks past his mother into the smirking face of Artemis and her mother, Olivia.

"What are you doing here?" Percy demanded.

"That's rude," Artemis said coldly. "For your information Percy, you're parents invited us to tag along with them. We've even bought you a new cauldron and a set of robes. Merlin knows you need it." Artemis said coldly.

"We were just getting ready to buy books. I understand they're expenses. I was going to offer, but if you rather I don't…" Harry said.

"Be polite, Percy. He's been very kind to us." Mrs. Weasley said coldly.

Percy's hands became a fist as he shook with anger.

At that moment, Samuel walks up.

"Took me a while to find you, the line wasn't as bad as we thought." He said. He looks at the Weasley with questionable eyes before turning back to his wife with a silent question.

"Well, the Weasley's asks if they could shop with us, and we agreed." She said, but a sly smile was on her lips that cause Samuel to wonder what his family and his Lord had planned.

"I think all we really need is to get our books," Harry said.

"That's perfect, Gilderoy Lockhart will be at Flourish and Blotts," Mrs. Weasley said in delight.

They said nothing as they went to Flourish and Blotts, and notice immediately a large crowd had gathered around.

"This is not going to be easy," Samuel said as he tries to navigate his family and Harry through the crowd. They attempted to navigate carefully, but everyone was pushing and shoving. Almost as if all dignity had been forgotten.

Harry tried to keep up as he holds Artemis' hands to go through the crowd.

"Step aside, this is for the front page for the Daily Prophet." A man with a camera said.

"Like I care," Harry mutters as he tries to squeeze through.

"It can't be Harry Potter." Gilderoy Lockhart shouted in joy.

The crowd all turn to Harry, and cameras started flashing in Harry's eyes, causing him to go blind for a moment. He never saw Gilderoy Lockhart get up and grab him by his arm and started pulling him towards his desk.

"Nice big smile Harry, together we'll make the front page…" Gilderoy Lockhart said.

At that moment, Gilderoy Lockhart was knocked back by a spell as Samuel Wynter rushed forward with Olivia Wynter coming to him.

"Hands off him at once, Gilderoy." Samuel snaps. Harry got up and hid immediately behind Samuel as Olivia and Artemis stood by him. They check quickly. He wasn't hurt.

"Samuel," Gilderoy Lockhart began.

"That's Lord Wynter to you, Lockhart." Samuel snaps. He didn't lower his wand to him.

"The Wynter's, aren't they…" Someone in the crowd mutters.

"Yeah, they're Vassals to the Potter's." Someone else answers.

Lockhart clearly knew who they were having grown up in the magical world and have learned much about the Potter's.

"Please forgive me, Lord Wynter. I just got excited, it's Harry Potter after all." He said as he chuckled nervously.

Harry looks out of the corner of his eye and sees the press was watching the event taking note of what was happening. Knowing how this could end up, he puts his hand on Samuel's elbow.

"It's alright, I'm not hurt," Harry said.

Samuel nods his head and lowers his wand.

"Really, Lockhart?" Lucius Malfoy said from the stairs as he made his way down. "You go to grabbing children at random? Have you no shame?"

It was clear like the Wynter's, the Malfoy's also didn't like Lockhart.

"I just got over-excited. Tell you what Mister Potter," Lockhart said with a broad smile. "I'll buy you and your party all your school books," Lockhart said to the applause of the crowd.

Harry smirks, knowing the Weasley's would die from shock at his proposal. Though he wasn't sure, who would be more shock, the Weasley's or Lockhart?

Harry said nothing but had a significant smirk on his face when Lockhart realized he was buying nine sets of books. As well as additional books that Samuel picked out. He kept a broad smile and paid for everything.

As Harry turned to leave, Gilderoy Lockhart stood up on a chair and open his arms wide.

"I have one more announcement." He said as he smiles at the crowd. "I'm pleased to announce that this year at Hogwarts, I will be joining as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor."

Now it was Harry turn to be shocked. He and Artemis shared a look of dread knowing they were not going to enjoy this year.

"Really, Weasley's, sucking up to Potter so you can get free handouts," Draco said as he holds onto his books. Ron flushed and looks at Draco with as much hate as he would give Harry.

"Draco," Harry said, making his way over to them. Artemis stuck close, as she would pull Harry away from any danger. Draco and Ron were at each other's throats a lot last year, no fights, but they had a few close calls.

"Harry," Draco said with a nod.

"I trust you've had a good summer," Harry said.

"It was… uneventful. Father insists that my grades shape up." Draco said with a shudder.

"You were among the top ten of our year, be proud of that Draco," Harry said.

"Ron, mom says we have to stick together…" the youngest Weasley said.

"What's this, Weasley? You've got a girlfriend?" Draco said in a mock tone of voice.

"Shut up Malfoy, she's my sister." Ron snaps.

"That makes sense. She's too hideous for my taste." Ron and Ginny flushed red at Draco's remark. "I doubt a wizard of your skill could get a decent girlfriend," Draco added.

"Ron, oh, hello, Malfoy," Lily said as she came over with Hermione.

Draco sneered at the sight of Lily.

"You look better than I remember," Draco commented. He was referring to the attack his fellow Slytherin's did to her during their first flying lesson.

"So does your face," Lily remarks coldly. It was Draco's turn to flush red.

"Lily…" Hermione said in a warning tone, but she failed as Lily took a step forward and stare Draco straight in the eye. Draco back down, knowing he was well within reach of her fist.

"Draco," Lucius said as he comes forward and put a hand on his shoulder. Draco got his courage back. "Introduce me, Draco," Lucius demanded.

"Er, right… Father, this is the half-wit Ron Weasley." Draco said, pointing to Ron, but Lucius bonks him on his head with his cane.

"Don't be rude Draco." Lucius said. Draco grumbles.

"Ron, his sister, Granger, and Morris," Draco said with his teeth grinding together.

"And of course, Harry Potter." Lucius Malfoy said as he looks at Harry. Olivia Wynter had come over and placed her hands on his shoulders. She eyes Lucius carefully.

"You help me out last year, sir," Harry said in an even tone.

"Yes, of course, that whole affair was stupidity, but it had to be done," Lucius said.

"Ron, where are you?" Arthur Weasley said from the shop. He spotted Ron and came over. "What are you doing?"

"Well, well… Arthur Weasley." Lucius said as his eyes went off Harry to Arthur Weasley.

"Lucius," Arthur Weasley said as he looks up to see Lucius. "What are you doing here?" He half demands, half asks.

"The real question is, what are you doing here?" Lucius said as he eyes Arthur carefully. "Don't you normally shop for secondhand supplies?" Arthur Weasley flushed a deep shade a red, darker than Ron or Ginny's.

"I hear you've been busy at the Ministry, working overtime and doing… raids. I trust they're paying you overtime." He waves his wand, and Ginny's books flew out of her cauldron and straight into his hands. He looks at the condition of the books before turning back to Arthur. "Apparently not. If you use someone like Harry Potter to get decent supplies. And I thought you could sink no lower." Lucius said. He takes a step forward and gives Arthur a hard glare. "You're a disgrace to the name wizard."

"You and I have a different opinion what disgraces wizards, Lucius," Arthur said coldly.

Lucius drops the books into Ginny's cauldron with a look of disgust on his face.

"Truly, teaching your children to become beggars just like…" Lucius said, but Arthur Weasley had finally lost it and swung at Lucius, knocking him to the ground. Olivia pulls Harry backs away from the two grown men who fighting like children.

Arthur stayed on top of Lucius as he kept trying to punch him.

Mrs. Weasley was shouting at her husband to stop while Fred and George shouted at the top of their voice, clearly enjoying the action. Even Ron was cheering his father on, while Ginny looked shocked.

"That's enough!" Hagrid shouted as he came over. He bends down and pulls the two grown men apart like they were rag dolls. Arthur had a nasty cut above his left eye, and Lucius had a swollen jaw bone from Arthur's punch.

Lucius shakes off Hagrid's grip and straightens himself up.

"I think we're done here, have a good day Arthur. Mr. Potter, you enjoy yourself." Lucius said as he beckons Draco and disappears down the street.

"We're going to call it too," Olivia said as Samuel walks forward, his hand holding onto his wand. She turns to Arthur Weasley. "You have a good summer." In saying that, she guides Harry and her family away from the bookstore towards the Leaky Cauldron. Not a word was said until they were back at the manor.

Author Notes: I hope everyone enjoys the chapter. Suggestions are welcome. I'm going to explain Artemis's relationship with Harry in the next chapter.
