Magical Origins

Year 2: The Heir's Message

Harry and Lily were both discharged the first thing in the morning. However, Colin Creevey was moved to another part of the Healer Ward, and the area had been closed off.

For Lily, she went to the Gryffindor table and quickly spotted Ron and Hermione.

"You guys, Creevey…" Lily began.

"We heard," Hermione said quickly. "we think the Slytherin's attack him last night. Everyone is talking about it." Hermione said.

Lily paused and realized half the Gryffindor's were glaring at the Slytherin with murderous glares.

"I think it's Potter or even Malfoy," Ron said with a scowl on his face.

"It wasn't, Harry was in the Healer Wing with me," Lily said.

"Then, it was Malfoy," Ron said as if he was sure, and the matter was settled.

Lily said nothing. Petrifying another student, took great skills and magic. She was sure no second year had the skills to perform such magic.

Harry sits down at the Slytherin table, and he immediately notices half the school was glaring at him.

"What?" Harry snaps.

No one said anything. Some return to their meals, but others still glared at him.

"They think you attack that Creevey boy last night," Artemis said as she sits down next to him.

"They do realize how stupid that sounds. I was in the healer wing, getting my arm fix." Harry said.

Artemis shrugs her shoulders before piling her plate with food.

"Go back to your own business." Harry barks.

That got the message as everyone finally turns around and returns to their plates.

"It's Halloween, cheer up, Harry. Tell you what, I'll bring you some sweets from Hogsmeade." Artemis said.

"That's right, you're going to the village today," Harry said in a slow voice.

"I'll bring you back a butterbeer, it always cheers me up." Artemis promise.

Harry said nothing but decides to retire to the Common Room. That way, no one would accuse him of any foul play if anything did happen.

Harry was in the middle of the Common Room, reading his Book of Shadows that went over the Water Elemental abilities.

'While Water Elemental abilities have few offensive capabilities, rather the user of water has high levels of defense and healing abilities. The greatest of these also allow the water to be manipulated into Ice. Full control over the ice allows one to also steal magic from other witches and wizards…"

The Common Room opens, and the third years and up walks talking excitedly. Artemis walks in, holding a cup and a bag. Spotting Harry, in his usual chair, she walks over and sets the bag down in front of him. She then hands him the cup.

Harry said as he grabs the cup and drinks it.

"This is good," Harry said as he sets it down.

"I told you, and guess what," Artemis said.

"What?"

"You'll never believe what I just saw."

Harry remains silent as he looks at Artemis carefully.

"Percy Weasley."

"Why is that good news?" Harry asks,

"Well he looked flush, he didn't even comment me in the corridors. Something or someone has his attention. Oh, I can't wait to find out who." Artemis said with a squeal of delight.

"Knowing you, you'll just curse that person," Harry said calmly.

"You know me well," Artemis said with a smile. "You coming to the feast?" Artemis asks.

"Yeah, I'll meet you in the Great Hall, I'm going to freshen up and put my things away," Harry said.

Artemis said nothing as she turns to leave to join the Halloween feast.

Harry went to his dorm and went to his trunk that sitting at the foot of his bed before opening the secret compartment. He puts the Book of Shadows inside of it before closing it. He waves his wand over his trunk and locks it.

After taking a shower and putting on clean robes, Harry made his way to the Great Hall. As he was the only one in the corridors, he walks up the flight of stairs until he stops.

Water was all over the floor. The light torches seem to have been growing dimmer.

I must Feed…

Harry paused, he heard a strange voice.

So Hungry, I must feed… I need food… come to me… my prey!

Harry pulls out his wand and activates his mystic eyes. The silver orbs lit through the darkness, trying to see who was or what was talking. Harry takes one step up the steps and sees something that caught his attention.

He walks up carefully and with caution. Until he was staring at the object so close to it.

It was Mrs. Norris, Filch's cat. She had a look of terror on her face and frozen stiff. To make things worse, someone had tied her tail to the torch as she dangling, frozen stiff.

Harry almost misses it, but it was then he notices something red drips down. Looking up, he sees the wall had been written in blood.

The Chamber of Secrets Has Been Opened!

Enemies of the Heir… Beware!

Harry backs away slowly, knowing something terrible had happened.

He suddenly heard footsteps coming in his direction. He throws his hood on and looks to see Lily, Weasley, and Granger walking in his direction. Knowing better than to stick here and knowing full well that Ron would accuse him of this act, Harry turned and fled. He grabs his Invisibility Cloak and throws it over himself, vanishing from view.

Harry did not stop, not until he reaches the entrance to the Great Hall. He throws off the cloak and stuffs it in his robes. Harry opens the door and sees the students and teachers were busy enjoying the feast.

Harry quickly spots Artemis and sits down next to him.

"Did you have…" Artemis said, looking at him, but a quick look told her something was wrong. Harry leans into her ear.

"If anyone asks, I was with you the whole time," Harry said. He made sure she was the only one who could hear him.

Artemis knew at once something was wrong if he needed to have her cover for him.

Harry grabs his plate and eats. But he couldn't eat much. What he just witnessed sicken him greatly and had ruined his appetite.

Barely sitting down, the school got up to return to their dorms. That was until a scream was heard, causing everyone to rush to the source.

Lily stops Ron and Hermione the moment she felt the water enter her sneakers.

"Why is there water on the floor?" Ron asks.

"Maybe Moaning Myrtle flood the second-floor lavatory again," Hermione said.

"Who's that?" Ron said, pointing to a person up the stairs by a torch. The darkness made it hard to see who or what hte person was doing. Then they watch the person throws a hood over their head and turns to look at him. A pair of silver eyes staring back at them.

'Harry?' Lily thought as she recognizes the silver glow.

The person turns and flees.

"Wait!" Ron shouted as he jumps up the stairs. Lily and Hermione follow. They reach where the figure had been standing only to see he had vanished entirely.

"What is that?" Hermione said out loud. Lily and Ron turn to see Mrs. Norris hanging by the tail.

"Lumos," Lily said, lighting up the corridor with her wand. The message she read caused her to take a step back.

"What's the Chamber of Secrets?" Lily asks.

"We have to go," Ron said.

"Why?" Hermione asks.

"Trust me, we don't want to be found here…" Ron said.

But someone had screamed. They look up to see several Hufflepuff students standing at the top of the stairs. It didn't take long. The entire school starting pouring down to see the source of the scream.

"Out of the way, out of the way," Filch said as he walks forward. "In trouble, again, are we… I'll…MRS NORRIS!" Filch bellowed upon seeing his cat. He turns to Lily. "I'll kill you, you filthy little…" Filch bellowed as he charges forward and grabs Lily by the throat. Lily was trying to gasp for breath as Filch's grip around her throat was tight.

"Argus!" Dumbledore bellowed. The sea of students parted so he could come down. "Release her at once," Dumbledore said, with a hint of anger in his voice. Filch did so, and Lily drops to her knees, gasping for breath.

Dumbledore said nothing as he strides forward to examine Mrs. Norris.

"This girl murder my cat," Filch said, pointing an accusing finger at Lily.

"No, I didn't," Lily said.

"It wasn't her, it was Potter." Ron quickly said.

This comment caused countless Slytherin's to sudden hiss out. Many of them were shaking their heads and even mumbling about Ron's accusation.

"Harry Potter was with me the entire time during the feast," Artemis said. "Are you suggesting he was in two places at once?" Artemis shouted.

Ron opens his mouth, but Hermione stomps him on his foot, causing him to yelp in surprise.

"Actually Professor, we saw someone who looked like Potter before the person fled. We merely discovered Mrs. Norris like this." Hermione stated, calmly.

"Everyone, return to your dorms immediately. Miss Granger, Miss Morris, and Mister Weasley come with me." Dumbledore said.

"My office is nearby Headmaster." Gilderoy Lockhart said.

"Thank you," Dumbledore said without looking at him.

Nothing was said as the Prefects tried to get their houses to return to their dorms.

Harry said nothing as he parts way. He notices Lily was giving him a hard look and nods his head to her telling her he would talk to her later.

"Everyone to bed, the show's over," Artemis said.

The moment the coast was clear, Artemis drags Harry into her dorm.

"Talk, what happened," Artemis said.

Harry then told her how he heard a voice, speaking of murder and hunting. How he discovered Mrs. Norris and the Writing on the Wall. How the trio almost caught him under it before he fled and went to her immediately.

"You think I'm lying?" Harry said.

"No, I know you're not. However, for the time being, I would keep the voices you hear to yourself. Only tell me when we're alone."

"Why can I hear it?"

"I don't know. I do know this, hearing voices no one else can hear isn't a good sign, even in the magical world." Artemis said.

"Are you going to write to your dad?" Harry asks.

"Should I bring him here?" Artemis asks.

"I need to tell him. Also, I would like him to stop Weasley from accusing things I don't do," Harry said emphatically.

"I'll send him an owl first thing tomorrow morning, however…" Artemis said, giving him a stern look. "I covered for you this time, I may not be able to next time. Promise me, you'll be seen by a large crowd from now on as well as travel in groups so people can cover for you. Right now, they accepted my word. They could deny my word if they believe as a Vassal, I'm only shielding you from them. Next time, my word may not be good enough."

Harry slowly nods his head. The situation was getting serious. He was already accused of attacking Creevey, and now Mrs. Norris. He was seen firing hexes and jinxes as her since he arrived at Hogwarts. Artemis made a valid point. Right now, he was the primary suspect to the student body.

Harry woke up and immediately set out to the castle. He went to the Quidditch pitch, and to his delight, Lily was already waiting for him.

"I figure you be here," Harry said as he walks up to her.

"That was you I saw last night, wasn't it?" Lily said, going straight for the point.

"It was my eyes, wasn't it. Yes, it was, I heard a voice." Harry began. He then explains how he discovered what happened.

"So, you discovered it, why weren't you at the feast," Lily asks slowly.

"I was in the shower." Harry answers.

"Ron's convinced that you're responsible. And that Malfoy is helping you." Lily said.

"Figures, Ron accuses me of terrible things that I haven't done." Harry snorts.

"Unfortunately, many Gryffindor's are starting to agree with him. Creevey was annoying you, and he ends up petrified. You made it known that you jinx Mrs. Norris since your first year, and then she ends up petrified. You can see how things are looking." Lily said calmly.

"What happened to you, did Dumbledore?" Harry asks quickly.

"No, we were given a warning. He simply stated that we were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Though Professor Snape did try to get me banned from playing Quidditch."

Harry snorts at the thought. It seemed like Snape to do that.

"As for the voice, I heard it too," Lily said.

"Do you think it's…"

"No," Lily said, interrupting Harry. "It's not the same voice. The one from last year was kind and soft. The one from last night sounded menacing. The one spoke to me was a female voice, this voice… it was rough and did not sound pleasant." Lily said.

Harry said nothing.

"Make sure you travel in groups. Where you can be seen by a lot of students." Harry said.

"Why?" Lily asks.

"Do you really think this is over. Last night was a warning. This… is only the beginning. Why did Filch accuse you anyway?" Harry asks.

"He accused me of discovering his secret. He's a squib." Lily stated calmly.

"You'll have to explain that," Harry said as he sits down in the bleachers.

"Last month, I came in when it was raining. I started tracking mud through the floor, and Filch drags me to his office. Nearly-Headless Nick had Peeves thrash the trophy room, causing Filch to temporary leave. I notice a letter on his desk. The Kwikspell. I put it back when Filch came back, but he suspected I read it. He claimed it was for a friend before dismissing me."

Harry chuckles, oh this was excellent blackmail material.

"Artemis covered for you, she was quick on it," Lily said, looking serious.

"Yeah, she's writing a letter to her father as we speak. I suspect he'll be here sometime this week. There's something else I should warn you about. Do not tell anyone about the voice you're hearing." Harry said in a serious tone of voice.

"Yeah, I know," Lily says as she sighs. "Hearing voices in the Magical World isn't a good sign when no one else can hear it."

"Artemis said the same thing."

"Hermione has an idea to get a confession out of you." Lily suddenly said.

"Oh, how does she plan to do that," Harry said in a mock worried voice.

"She's brewing a polyjuice potion. I'm even helping." Lily admitted.

"Wait, I know she can get half the ingredients for it, but she needs a teacher's permission to get it out of the Restricted Area in the Library…"

"We got it," Lily said. Harry blinks in surprise.

"How?" Harry asks.

"Hermione asks Lockhart to sign the permission slip. He didn't even look when he signs it. Never even bothered to ask what book it was."

"Which Book?" Harry asks.

"The Moste Potente Potions," Lily said.

"You need to be careful," Harry warns. "Madam Pince has to keep a record of what students borrow from the Restricted Section. Hermione Granger's name is now on that list. If the teachers discover what you're doing, all they have to do is look at the list to see who borrowed that book," Harry said in a warning.

"Awe, that's sweet," Lily said in a mock tone of voice. "Never thought you are worried about Hermione."

"You know full well I'm worried about you," Harry said.

"Well, just be warned. We're going to use Crabbe and Goyle to get into the Slytherin Common Room."

"I should have never told you where it was," Harry mutters.

"Just like I should have never told you where Gryffindor Tower is and its password. You still haven't stopped by, have you."

"No, too risky. I'm sure countless Gryffindor's would hex me into oblivion if I'm caught." Harry said.

"What's the Slytherin password?" Lily asks.

Harry gives her a hard look as she smiles at him.

"Tch, it's Pure-Blood," Harry mutters as he looks away.

"What do you think the Heir of Slytherin is doing now?"

"Most likely lying low. Last night, a lot of attention was caused, so everyone is on guard. The person will wait until things have cooled down a bit." Harry said, answering Lily's question.

"I see," Lily said.

"How did you ditch buck-teeth and the dropout?" Harry asks.

It was Lily's turn to scowl.

"Must you really!" She said.

"You can find better friends," Harry said.

"I told them I was going to the loo, though I'm sure they're worried sick. We got class soon." Lily replies. She turns to him. "What about you?" Lily asks.

"That was easy, I told everyone I was going to chase the Snitch around the Pitch for a bit," Harry said.

Lily smiles as she closes her eyes at the thought.

"That's right, you first started as a Seeker. Now you're a Chaser. I thought you did good in your match, despite Dobby's bludger trying to kill you."

"I told Malfoy he better grabbed the Snitch," Harry said as he leans back. He smiles at the memory. "I'm glad you caught it."

"You don't like your teammates?" Lily said.

"They cheat to win. I don't. I rather play with skills than using underhand tactics like cheating." Harry said, strongly.

Lily said nothing.

"Is it true about you and Artemis?" Lily asks.

"Really, even you," Harry said.

"Everyone is talking about it. You know the Gryffindor Chasers have taken an interest in you, thinking you're into older witches." Lily said.

"Well, I guess that's a good thing. It means people like Ginny Weasley will leave me alone." Harry said with a sigh.

"What do you have against her?"

"How would you like to be stared at by a girl you don't know?" Harry snaps.

"Okay, okay, point taken," Lily said. "Don't have to bite my head off."

"I'm heading back, you should too," Harry said, getting up. Harry said nothing more as he walks down the stairs and towards the school.

On his way, he spots Artemis heading back to the castle. Harry smirks as he walks towards her.

Author Notes: So many people have asked me for a while to include Artemis in the pairing. Truth is that I already had someone paired up for her. A lot of people are requesting that I included her with Harry and Lily. So I made a new poll, vote and I'll see what to do with Artemis.
