Magical Origins

Year 3: The Grim of Black

Artemis was chatting away with her father and mother when a House-Elf appeared.

"Miss Artemis. You have a call from Master Harry."

"He probably wants to come over," Artemis said. She walked over to the fireplace and spoke in a cheerful tone. "Hey, Harry, what's…"

"Artemis…" Harry said in a weak voice. His voice caused the blood to disappear in her face as she turns ghastly white. "Help!"

"Wait! Artemis!" Her father shouted, but a loud crack was heard, and Artemis had vanished.

Both Olivia and Samuel both disappear as well.

The trio had reappeared at Private Drive, and Artemis was already charging forward. The door was open, and Artemis fled inside. Her parents jogged inside.

"Where is he!?" Artemis shouted.

Samuel Wynter walks in to see a shaken Petunia Dursley nursing a wounded Vernon Dursley. Aunt Marge was also bloody as the youngster, Dudley Dursley, was seen cowering behind the couch.

Not one Dursley answered her.

"Artemis!" Samuel said as he walks forward to calm his daughter.

"Where is our Lord?" Olivia said as she walks forward. A cold expression was on her face showing she was both concerned and furious.

"Who are you, people? What are you doing in my brother's house!" Marge barked.

Ripper was barking at them. Artemis lost it and fires a stingy hex at the dog to shut him up. Ripper whimper as the stingy hex hit him, causing him to run out in the backyard and hide behind the small tree.

"Where is our Lord?" Olivia repeated.

"I'll have a look around," Samuel said. He turns to his wife. "Watch them," Oliva said nothing as she pulls out her wand.

Samuel disappears and immediately went to his Lord's bedroom, but to his shock, everything was gone. His Lord had fled.

He went back to his family.

"Wait here, I'm going to the Ministry," Samuel told his wife. With a soft pop, he disappeared.

"What did you do?" Artemis hissed.

The Dursleys were scared shitless. Marge got up and sneered at them.

"How dare you come here and threaten us? This is a good family."

"They're rotten," Artemis said. Olivia places a hand on her daughter's shoulder from preventing her from using magic. While they had threatened the Dursleys in the past, the truth was several muggle protection acts prevent them from being harmed from any magical user and being.

"This family was given a charge, our Lord and Master; one Harry James Potter. Tell us where he is, and we'll leave. However, if our Lord has been harm, then their will dire consequences. We've already told this family this. Or did you not believe me?" Olivia said, coldly.

"Now see here," Marge said as she grabs a large knife. "That boy is a disgrace. A blight to society. He's no lord. He's good for nothing scumbag who…"

Artemis lost it and fires a hex at Marge, who flew back and lands on the wall. Leaving a significant imprint on the wall.

Olivia didn't even bother to correct her daughter.

"I knew my Lord wasn't loved here, but now I see the error in my judgment for leaving him here without someone to ensure my Lord's safety was guaranteed," Olivia said, coldly.

At that moment, Vernon reaches for his gun and points it at them. Olivia was quick and summons the gun to her hand. Leaving a stunned Vernon Dursley who realized he was now defenseless.

Several pops could be heard as wizards appeared behind Olivia.

Olivia recognized some of them in the Muggle Relation Department. Others were Aurors.

A red hair man takes one quick look at the muggles and back at Artemis and Wynter.

"You didn't harm them with magic, did you? Muggle protection acts…"

"It was self-defense," Olivia stated calmly. "The muggle came at us."

"Who lives here?" Arthur Weasley asks.

"Our Lord and Master, Harry Potter," Samuel said.

"Really, Harry Potter!" Arthur Weasley said in an excited tone of voice. Other witches and wizards express their excitement.

"Focus," Olivia said coldly. "Currently, our Lord is missing, and these muggles refuse to say where he has gone or what has happened," Olivia said as she pointed to the Dursleys.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have you to leave." An Auror said.

"Not until we know Harry is safe," Artemis said.

"You'll be notified immediately as soon as we have found him. However, you cannot be here as we do our investigation or as we question the muggles." The wizard said in a deep voice.

Artemis looks like she wanted to argue, but her mother places a hand on her shoulder.

"I trust you understand that we must be notified immediately of our Lord's location and wellbeing," Olivia said, coldly.

"I'm well aware." The Auror said.

Olivia nods her head as the Wynters disappeared.

"They won't find him," Artemis said as they reappear in their manor.

"He still has his ring with him," Samuel said. He immediately grabs a crystal and a map. "We'll find him. Olivia, summon the rest of the Vassals."

Olivia nods her head. She turns to the mirror and speaks to it. It was a few moments before the fireplace burst alive as the Masons and Pearces walk in.

"What happened? Why have we been summoned so late?" Henry Morgan asks. Isabelle Morgan yawns showing she was sleeping. The Pearces and Masons were also yawning.

"Our lord is in trouble and has gone missing," Samuel said in a stern voice. That knocked them awake.

"Does he have his ring on him?" Isabelle Morgan asks at once.

"We believe so. However, the crystal isn't moving."

Artemis was pacing back and force. It was clear she worried sick.

"Artemis calm down, sit down."

"Mom, you know what it means if the crystal can't find him!" Artemis said.

"What happened?" Ethan Pearce asks.

"We don't know. His muggle guardians refused to say a word. It is unclear what happened, or who attacked him. All we know, he sent a cry for help, then we were met with silence." Samuel said.

"He's not dead." Ruby Pearce said calmly.

"How can you be sure?" Artemis asks.

"Because our oaths are still intact. We're still bound to House Potter." Isabelle Morgan said.

"He could be in mortal peril. And he is in a place with powerful wards. Maybe even a barrier." Samuel said. He narrows his eyes. "It's no good, the crystal isn't working."

"We'll all do it," Isabelle said as they all pointed their wands at the Crystals. The crystal slowly starts to move. Then it rose up before slamming itself at a location.

"What's there?" Artemis asks. It wasn't a part of the magical world she knew of.

"You're not coming, Artemis," Samuel said.

"I am too!" Artemis protested.

"No," Samuel said in a stern voice that told her he wasn't going to be argued or challenge. "You need to watch over the Pearce children. Also, you need to make sure that Harry's room is ready for him. You may be a Vassal, but we all have our parts."

"Your time will come. Just be patient. Right now, you need to get potions ready. You want to be a healer, do you not?" Olivia said.

"I do," Artemis said.

"Part of the job is to wait for the person. I know it will be hard, but you must stay here. With Black on the loose, we cannot put you in danger. You must wait here and look after the Pearce children." Olivia said in her soft voice.

Artemis nods her head.

"We're leaving Edward here as well. He may be of age, but I rather he guards Pearce's children should Black come around." Henry Morgan said.

"I'll protect them." Edward Morgan promised.

The six adults stood up and disappeared from view.

Six pops revealed they were standing in a muggle neighborhood.

"Wands out." Isabelle Morgan suddenly said.

"What's wrong?" Ethan Pearce asks.

"This is the Manor of Blacks," Isabelle said.

They drew their wands and walk forward.

"It's as horrible as I remember," Isabelle said as they enter the house.

"That's right, you're a Black," Olivia said.

"The Black family, twisted and evil," Isabelle said.

They enter the room and see it was empty.

"Wait," Isabelle said. She raises her wand. "Homenum Revelio."

They waited for her to respond.

"Someone is here, on the second floor." She said slowly.

A great black dog appears at the top of the stairs and looks at them. They raised their wand at it, but he slowly turns and walks away.

"A stray?" Olivia asks.

"Did the Black Family have a dog?" Henry Morgan asks his wife.

"I don't know," Isabelle admitted. They went up the stairs with their wands raised. The dog seemed to be leading them through the halls before it stops at the door and waits for them to get near. When they did, he walks in and disappears. They follow suit, and to their surprise, lying in bed was…

"Harry," Olivia shouted. She rushes forward to check on him. She puts her wand down as she quickly looks at him. He was pale. The others walk in surprise to see their Lord lying in bed.

Olivia looks up to her husband, but then her eyes open wide with fear.

"Black!" She cries as she reaches for her wand.

Sirius Black was hiding behind the door, and he quickly raises Harry's wand. He was quicker and a flash of light he disarms her. The others turn, but Black had already sent spells their way.

It was over before they realized it. He lines them up on the wall with the full-body bind curse on them. He sets their wands on the table far from their reach.

"You came as I thought you would." Sirius Black said as he looks at them. Harry's wand still in his hand.

None of them realized what a stupid mistake they did by forgetting about the dog. They glare at him as if they wanted him to feel the full hatred of his betrayal.

"I must admit, you really did best us and the Ministry of Magic. Now it is complete. House Potter and their Vassals, at your mercy." Samuel said with a look of disgust on his face.

Sirius Black ignores him. Instead, he turns to Isabelle.

"It's good to see you're doing well. I hear you're Regent Lord now. Quite impressive."

"You are truly as dark as your name Sirius," Isabelle said, looking at her second cousin.

Sirius said nothing as more as he turns to Olivia.

"You still a healer Olivia?" He asks.

Olivia glares at him. She couldn't have believed she was so stupid to drop her guard at the sight of her lord. She should have been more careful.

"I know you got some training, I… I did the best I could, but I'm not good with muggle wounds. Look after him. See what you can do. Though I'm sure, he's going to need to go to Saint Mungo's." Sirius said.

"What are you after, Black? Why now?" Ruby Pearce asks.

Sirius Black ignores her and instead waves Harry wand, and Olivia finds herself able to move again. Sirius throws her wand on the floor by Harry.

"Check him, but I'm watching." Sirius Black said.

Olivia got up carefully and knew at once she wouldn't be able to best Black in a duel. Even after years in Azkaban, he was still quicker and more agile. Not to mention, he knew more dueling spells then she did. Also, if the rumors were true, a master at the Dark Arts.

Olivia slowly picks up her wand and waves it over Harry.

She was surprised that he seemed to be in a fragile state. She angrily turns to Black.

"What did you do to him?" She asks angrily.

"I saved him," Black stating the obvious.

"I need to get him potions and salve to heal him." Olivia nearly shouted.

"Then go, get what you need, but do not tell anyone what has happened." Sirius Black said.

Olivia glares at him before turning to her husband and the rest of the Potter's Vassal. They nod their heads.

Olivia disappears with a soft pop.

Artemis was sitting down with Edward when a pop revealed her mother.

"Mom, how's Harry!" She asks at once.

"Not now. I need potions and salve for him." Olivia said as she went to her family's potion cabinet and grabs all her potions and salve.

"Let me come, I can help," Artemis said.

"No." Her mother shouted. Artemis backs away. She has never heard her mother shout before.

With a pop, her mother disappears.

"Something is wrong." Edward Morgan said.

"She has never shouted before," Artemis said in agreement.

Olivia reappears with a bag of potions and salves. She looks at Black carefully.

"Go on." He said.

Olivia didn't know what Black was after, all she knew was she was prepared to die if she could get her lord to escape.

She removes the bandages and sees a hole in her Lord's skin. On in his back above his left shoulder and the other in his stomach. She places the healing salve, and the wound immediately starts healing. After putting some on his back, she was pleased to see it working.

She grabs her wand, but Black disarmed her, knowing what she had planned. She grits her teeth in frustration.

Harry groans as he slowly wakes up.

"Harry, here drink this," Olivia said, giving him strengthening solution potion.

Harry drinks as he slowly opens his eyes.

"Sirius Black." Harry breathed.

Sirius Black whips Harry's wand, and Olivia slides back to her husband's side, with the full-body bind replace on her.

Henry Morgan was actually trying to break free.

Harry gets out of bed.

"Take it easy, Harry," Sirius Black said softly.

"I know who you are and what you've done," Harry said as he sits up and swings his legs over.

"Do you know. Who told you?" Sirius Black said in amusement. He was actually smiling.

Harry looks at his Vassals, all bound by Black. He turns back and sees Black holding his wand.

Harry's eyes turn to the table and could see all their wands were placed there.

"Take it easy Harry, I want to have a talk with you." Sirius Black said.

Harry takes a step forward but falls on his hand and knees.

"I tried to warn you…" Sirius Black said. Not noticing the smirk on Harry's face. Ice immediately covers the floor as a block of ice rose up and pin Black to the wall. Harry's wand fell out of his hand.

Harry stood up.

"There are many things about me… you know nothing about." Harry said.

Black actually laughs.

"I can see now why Voldemort is afraid of you," Black said.

Harry narrows his eyes.

That form of magic took a lot of him, and the strengthen solution was burned out of his system.

"I'm going to get the Aurors," Harry said.

"You owe me." Sirius Black said.

"I owe you nothing." Harry hissed.

"Yes, you do. It was I who found you in that muggle park. I was the one who brought you here and tried my very best to heal you back to health. I knew your Vassals would come searching for you. Why else do you think I allowed Olivia to heal you." Sirius Black said.

Harry paused at his words. He slowly looked around and realized he was not in the Wynter's home.

"Where are we?" Harry said.

"This was my parents' house." Sirius Black answers. "Powerful magic exists here and shields this place from both muggle and magical beings. It was the only safe place I could think of where I could treat your injuries, Harry." Sirius Black said.

Harry's eyes shift into the silver orbs. Shocking his vassal at the power their lord was showing.

"Free me, and I'll prove it to you." Sirius Black said.

"I cannot. I don't have any strength left. Besides…" Harry said as the ice starts to crack. "That was my last gamble," Harry said as the ice breaks. Black lands on his feet and picks up Harry's wand.

"Going to kill me now," Harry said.

"Harry, don't you understand. I don't want you dead. You are not my target." Sirius Black said as he straightens up.

"I heard what you did. You betrayed my parents." Harry said.

"If you knew the whole story, then you wouldn't be so quick to judge me. Here let me prove it to you." Black said. He waves Harry's wand, and Harry was surprised to see his Vassals were free again. Sirius Black grabs their wands and rolls it to them before tossing Harry his wand.

"Now, I'm your prisoner." Sirius Black said.

Everyone grabs their wand and raises it at Sirius Black.

"What game are you playing?" Harry asks as Olivia and Ruby Pearce jumps in front of him.

"No game, just truth. Because the truth is long overdue." Sirius Black said as he raised his hands. "You want the truth, I'll tell you. The real truth. Not the garbage version everyone believes, the one fed to them like the sheep they are." Sirius Black growled.

"Talk." Harry hissed.

"Let's go to the dining room. This is going to take a while." Sirius Black said.

Harry slowly nods his head as the adults kept their wand on Sirius Black. Sirius said nothing as walks slowly with his hands in the air. He sits in a chair as the adults refuse to sit down. Instead, they stood by Harry's side, ready to come to his aid and strike down Sirius Black if he attempted to harm him.

Sirius Black smiles.

"You look like him, your dad. If it weren't for Lily's eyes, I would have thought you were James." Sirius Black said sadly.

"What's the truth, Black." Harry hissed.

"To tell you, you must know the beginning." Sirius Black said as he took a deep breath. "I first met your father on our first day, heading to Hogwarts. Met your mother that day too. Your father and I hit it off right away. We laugh and joke around. We discovered we had a lot of things in common. Having the same interest in many things. We were sorted into Gryffindor."

Harry snorted.

"What? Being a Gryffindor is nothing to be ashamed of. Aren't you…"

"I'm Slytherin," Harry stated in a matter of fact tone.

Sirius Black look like he was going to pass out.

"Never would have expected that." Sirius Black mutters.

"Well, we met two other boys we became good friends with. Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. We were all Gryffindors. Your dad and I soon became known as pranksters in the school. We always competed with each other through pranks. It was also during this time, by our third year, we learn a dark secret Remus was hiding from us." Sirius said. "We had discovered that Remus was a werewolf."

"Dumbledore, let a werewolf in the school?" Harry said in shock.

"He did, he placed the Whomping Willow on the ground as a place where Lupin would be able to transform. The tree was placed there to keep Lupin in and everyone else out. Lupin, before we figured it out, would lie to us about why he kept disappearing at a full moon. When we discovered we decided to do something that was the best time of my life. We became Animagus."

"What?" Isabelle exclaimed.

"That's the ability to turn into an animal and back again right," Harry said.

"It is." Samuel Wynter said.

"It took us two full years of study and practice. We were unregistered, and learning to become Animagus is dangerous. However, James and I were certain we could pull it off. In our fifth year, we succeeded."

"Prove it," Harry said.

Sirius said nothing as he turns into a black dog. The great black dog that Harry saw earlier that night when he left the Dursleys. Sirius then turns back into a human.

"By our sixth year, we were roaming the grounds with a werewolf. Those were the happiest moments of my life." Sirius Black said with a smile.

"The werewolf didn't attack you."

"Not while we were animagus. The werewolf is only a danger to people. Not animals. James and I could transform into large animals, were able to keep the werewolf in check. Always able to lead him away from people. We had a few close calls, but we always laugh about it. It was fun for us. The danger didn't seem real to us."

"When your dad married your mom, he asked me immediately to be his best man. That didn't change either when you were born. James knew me so well he knew I would do anything to protect you; that's why he named me your godfather."

"What?" Harry said in shocked.

"They didn't tell you?" Sirius Black said in surprise.

"He was too young. We didn't want that hanging over him." Olivia said, calmly.

"We were fighting a war. Though we were fighting, we knew we were losing. Then one day, Dumbledore came to James and Lily with a warning. Voldemort was targeting you directly. He advised them to go into hiding at once. Told them the charm to use to shield them."

"I know this, they've told me," Harry said, referring to his Vassal.

"Then you know each and every one of the Potter's Vassals were prepared for that role. To shield you. James insisted on using me. But, as we were getting ready to place the charm. I spoke to James and Lily. We knew there was a spy, someone reporting James and Lily to the Dark Lord. The truth was, we had no idea who it was. Only speculation. At first, we thought it was Remus, as many Werewolves were flocking to the Dark Lord. James even began to suspect one of his Vassal had turned on him to become a Great House. I spoke to them. Even though I was prepared to die, I knew that if Voldemort got his hands on me, he would make me talk. He always does. Countless families have been destroyed because he makes witches and wizards talk. I thought of a plan to create a second shield. We went with the original plan and did not tell anyone. Only four people knew of the plan. James, Lily, myself, and Peter Pettigrew." Sirius Black said as he said Peter's name with disgust.

Black stops as he takes a deep breath.

"The plan was simple. I was to be the decoy. We knew Voldemort would stop at nothing to get them. So, I convinced James and Lily to use Peter, as no one would think to look at Peter Pettigrew as the Secret Keeper."

"No, that cannot be." Ruby Pearce said.

"It's true. We knew there was a spy. Information and trust were hard those days, you all know that. I thought that by using Peter, you and your parents would be safe. Instead, something terrible happened. Peter used his position to reveal the locations of the rest of the Vassal. Almost all of them were killed off. Voldemort and his top Death Eaters made the killings. Then Voldemort must have decided not to wait any longer. He went straight for you."

Sirius Black stops, and he slows his breath down.

"That night, I felt something was wrong. I went to check on Peter, but he was gone. No sign of him, not a hair was disturbed. He was just gone. Fearing the worse, I went to your parents' house. I saw the house and found you. Hagrid came by. He argued that he was under orders from Professor Dumbledore to bring you to your aunt and uncle, but I insisted that I take care of you as I was your godfather. At that moment, Death Eaters arrived. I gave you to Hagrid and gave him my motorcycle. I told him to get you to safety as I hold the Death Eaters off. It was when I curse a Death Eater his mask fell off. I saw a sight that shocks me and angry me. Peter was a Death Eater!"

"No." Ruby Pearce said in shock.

"But if you think about it carefully." Isabelle Morgan said as she puts her hand to her chin. "It makes sense."

"You mean Black is telling the truth?" Harry asks.

"I'm saying it's a possibility." Isabelle Morgan said. "Before the Dark Lord's fall, the Vassals of House Potter were being hunted down to the point of extinction."

"Remember when we told you House Potter once had over thirty Vassals." Ruby Pearce looking at Harry.

"Yeah,"

"House Potter once had thirty-seven families under them. One of the largest in all of Britain. If not one of the largest in all of Europe. They had influence and power. The only house that really rivaled them…" Ruby said as she turns to Black. "Was House Black."

"I don't understand," Harry said slowly.

"House Black and House Potter are two of the biggest families in the magical world. One of the two largest in all of Europe. Some centuries House Black ruled, some it was House Potter." Olivia said.

"Also, at the time when all the Vassals were getting killed off, only four people knew of our locations," Isabelle said.

"James even ordered we not keep in touch with each other. Fearing any message between us would get intercepted." Ethan Pearce said.

"However, James and Lily knew where we were hidden. As did Peter Pettigrew." Isabelle said.

"Back then, he said it was his duty as a friend of the Potter's to make sure we all were safe. We never suspected…" Olivia said as her eyes open wide as she just realized something.

"Now you see why I insisted on using Peter. No one would have suspected him. The very thing that was our greatest strength in the plan became our greatest flaw. Peter's greatest strength was he was capable of deceiving all of us." Sirius Black said.

"But you killed him," Henry said.

"I intended to." Sirius Black growled. "after Peter fled, I tracked him to a muggle town where he was trying to hide. A safe house by the looks of it. One I had no knowledge of. He saw me and panicked. He screamed down the street that I betrayed Lily, and James then blew the street up with his wand behind his back. Panic filled the muggles as I tried to grab him. But he managed to cut off his finger and transformed, then he got away."

"That's when you were captured," Harry said.

"Yes, I thought for sure my trial would clear my name. I was going to tell the world the truth. But that day never came." Sirius Black said.

Harry sighs as he rubs his temple.

His Vassals still had their wands pointed at Black, and they were merely waiting for the word.

Harry grabs his wand and points it, Sirius.

"Trumus," Harry said.

Black started to glow white.

"What was that?" Olivia asks.

"A truth spell. He's speaking the truth." Harry said.

"That's useful." Henry Morgan said.

"Why did you come back, Sirius?" Isabelle asks.

Black reaches inside his robes and pulls out a copy of the Daily Prophet. He lays it down.

A picture of the Weasley family was there.

"Where did you get this?" Olivia asks.

"Fudge, when he came to inspect Azkaban a couple of days ago, I asked for it. I told him I miss doing puzzles. He handed it to me before he left. The moment I saw the picture, I saw Peter."

"Where?" Everyone shouted.

"The rat." Sirius Black said, pointing to the rat Ron Weasley was holding.

"What about it?" Harry asks, having seen the rat countless times in Ron Weasley's hands.

"It's Peter." Sirius Black said. "I've seen his transformations countless times. If you look really carefully on his right paw."

"It's got a toe missing," Samuel said softly.

"So simple, so brilliant." Olivia breathes.

Harry said nothing as he looks at the picture.

"Wait, if Black saved your life, then who harmed you, my Lord?" Henry Morgan said.

Harry then explains what happened at the Dursleys.

"Those filthy muggles!" Isabelle hissed.

"We should have stepped in years ago, to ensure that this didn't happen." Ruby Pearce said.

"Just take me home. We'll work out a plan on what to do next." Harry said. The sun was rising, they've been talking all night.

"Go with Olivia, Harry. As a healer, she has been trained to apparate with someone who is injured." Samuel said.

Harry nods his head and gets up as Olivia Wynter grabs him.

With a soft pop, they disappeared.

Author Notes: The Long Truth has finally been told. As you can see, Sirius is already on a good start with Harry by saving his life. The Third Year is about to start, hope you guys enjoy. Also, I'm going to point this out now. There is no dimensional travel in this story. I know some of you are hoping for it, but I'm not going for it. That was his original plot to his story. This is mine, it will follow the canon with my own twist. Not sure how I'll manage, but I'll do my best to complete this story.
