Magical Origins
Year 3: The Third Year
Harry slowly wakes up to see a worried Lily and Artemis looking down at him.
"What happened?" Harry asks before he realized he was on the ground.
"You collapse. That…thing was really leaning over you." Artemis said.
Harry sat up and realized the Hogwarts Express light had come back on, and the train was moving again.
"Where did that thing go?" Harry asks.
"Well, after that thing started moving over you, Professor Lupin stood up and spoke to the creature. He said, 'No one is hiding Sirius Black, go.' But the thing didn't move, and Professor Lupin said a spell. Something white and bright appeared driving that thing away." Artemis said as she and Lily helped Harry help.
Harry looks around and notices Professor Lupin had vanished.
The door slides open as Professor Lupin came back, holding some chocolate.
"Here, eat this… it will help." as he hands them chocolate.
"What was that thing?" Harry asks slowly.
"A Dementor, one of the Wardens of Azkaban. It was searching the train for Sirius Black." Lupin said.
Harry bites the chocolate and immediately feels life returning to him. The warmth spread to his fingertips and toes.
"Stay here, I'm going to speak to the driver," Lupin said as he disappears from the compartment.
"I heard screaming," Harry said.
"I didn't," Artemis said.
"I didn't hear screaming. But I heard something, like a crash, I thought for a moment the train hit something." Lily said.
The compartment door opens, and they turn to see Neville Longbottom along with Daphne Greengrass, Tracy Davis, Ernie Macmillan, Hannah Abbott, and Justin Finch-Fletchley.
"You guys, okay?" Ernie asks.
"Yeah, I think so," Harry said.
"What was that thing?" Justin asks.
"A Dementor. One of the Dementors of Azkaban." Artemis said slowly as the third year's walk-in to sit down.
"It was awful," Tracy Davis said.
Artemis bends down and picks up Harry's Book of Shadows. A look on her face told him she wanted to speak to him about the book.
None of them could muster the courage to talk, and they rode in silence.
With ten minutes to arrive, the guys got up to let the girls change. When they were finished, the guys changed. Harry puts his Quidditch Captain badge on. He then turns to Hedwig and opens her cage. She jumps on his arm as Harry carries her outside. Once outside, Hedwig took flight.
"Let's get a carriage." Artemis.
"Carriage?" Harry said.
It then occurs to Harry he didn't know how the rest of the school got to Hogwarts. Last year he was taken to Professor McGonagall's office after Dobby sealed the barrier on him. This would be the first time he had taken the proper way.
Artemis led the way, and Harry saw something that made him blood cold.
"What are those?" Harry asks, pointing to the strange horses.
"Oh, you can see them? Not many people can. They're Thestral's. You can ask our Care of Magical Creatures Professor more about them." Artemis said. Artemis climbs in the carriage with Harry right behind her. Lily and Neville both climb-in.
Harry paused as he looks at the Thestral. It was jet black and seemed to reek of death. Harry saw something in the distance.
"Artemis," Harry said, pointing to the distance.
It was a great black dog looking at them.
Artemis said nothing, knowing full well with Lily and Neville with them. They couldn't speak freely. Harry half wished he could speak Parseltongue to her, but the only other person who would understand him was Lily.
The ride to Hogwarts was silent.
It was clear everyone's mind was on the Dementors. No one talked during the ride.
Harry was looking at Artemis, who was looking out the carriage.
After teasing him for so many days, he really needed to have her. He didn't care about the boundaries anymore, for once, he was glad he had a willing girl.
They got out the carriage, Lily and Neville went to the Gryffindor table. Harry grabs Artemis and holds her.
"I want you… tonight." Harry whispers in her ear.
Artemis looks at him with wide eyes. She slowly nods her head with a smile on her face.
This little game they played was going to get serious. However, Artemis's month of teasing was too much for Harry to handle. His hormones were raging, and he needed release.
They said nothing as they sit at the Serpent Table.
Though Artemis was rubbing her leg against his.
If Harry had to guess she was excited. Her dream was coming true.
The first years walk in, and they stood in the center of the room, looking both terrified and excited.
Harry said nothing as he watches the sorting.
"Greengrass, Astoria." Professor McGonagall called.
"Greengrass? Is that your sister?" Harry asks Daphne.
"Yeah," Daphne said.
"Slytherin!" The Sorting hat shouted. Astoria jumps up and walks over to her sister and sits down.
Harry said nothing as he claps and was thinking of Sirius. Sirius obviously wanted to make sure he was alright.
Harry was brought back out as his train of thought about Sirius as a Romilda Vane was sorted into Gryffindor.
Albus Dumbledore stood up, his long white beard shimmering in the Great Hall candlelights.
"Welcome," Dumbledore said, beaming down upon everyone. "Welcome to another year at Hogwarts! I have a few things to say to you all, and as one of them is very serious, I think it's best to get it out the way before we enjoy our wonderful feast…" Dumbledore said as he pauses as he looks around the Great Hall. "As you are all aware after their… extensive search aboard the Hogwarts express, our is school; at the request of the Minister of Magic, is presently playing host to some of the Dementors of Azkaban, who are here in their search for Sirius Black."
The Great Hall broke into whispers as Dumbledore raised his arms once again as silence fell. "They are station through the grounds and at every entrance, and while they are with us, I must make it plain that nobody is allowed to leave the castle without permission. Dementors cannot be fooled by tricks, disguises – or even… Invisibility Cloaks." Dumbledore said as he gives a sharp look at Harry. Harry groans.
The Great Hall was silence as all eyes were on Dumbledore.
"It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving. They do not understand pleading, excuses, or even mercy. I must, therefore, warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. I look at our Prefects and our new Head Boy and Girl," Here Percy Weasley puffs out his chest as if he was someone important. "to make sure that no student runs afoul or does something to the Dementors." Dumbledore said in a warning tone. "Greater wizards and witches have made the mistake of upsetting a Dementor in the past, and it has cost them… dearly."
Dumbledore paused as he looks across the Great Hall.
"On a happier note, I am pleased to welcome two new additions to our wonderful staff, who will be joining our ranks this year. First, please welcome Professor Remus J. Lupin, who has kindly agreed to fill the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts in light of his busy schedule."
There was polite applause, as Professor Lupin stood up and bows. It was kind of hard as Professor Lupin was wearing robes in a somewhat bedraggled and shabby, and the rest of the teachers had on robes that were both tidy and elegant.
"Look at Professor Snape," Artemis whispers in Harry's ear. Harry looks at his Head of House and could see that while he was trying to be polite, Snape was giving Lupin the same look he would typically give him.
"As to our second new appointment," Dumbledore said the moment the Great Hall fell silent again. "I am sorry to say our Care of Magical Creatures Professor Kettleburn has decided to retire to enjoy more time with his remaining limbs. However, I am delighted to say that none other than our own Games Keeper, Rubeus Hagrid has agreed to take over the post, good luck, Hagrid." Professor Dumbledore said as Professor McGonagall elbows Hagrid to stand up. He does so and inadvertently knocking over the table as the Great Hall claps for him.
Ron, Hermione, and Lily were clapping the loudest. Professor McGonagall pulls him to sit down again.
"Let the feast begin," Dumbledore said.
As always, the food appeared, and Harry begins placing food on his plate.
Artemis decides to tease him a bit further when she puts her leg on Harry's. Harry looks at her as she winks. Harry smiles, knowing she was enjoying herself. He was too if he was, to be honest with himself.
Harry gets up with the rest of the school, grabbing Artemis by the hand, and without walking with the rest of the Slytherin's, he led her to the Fifth Floor Perfect Bath.
Artemis and Harry both removed their clothes before they walk in the bath.
Harry grabs Artemis and kisses her.
It was hard to describe the feeling.
He wasn't thinking. All he wanted was to not let go of this moment. Artemis was still in her underwear, but that didn't matter.
Artemis sets Harry against the wall of the bath as she climbs on him. Harry holds her as the two started kissing once again.
The door suddenly bursts open.
"Do you ever knock!" Artemis screams as she stares at Percy Weasley. She quickly moves to hide behind Harry.
"It doesn't matter, you're out of bounds Potter, this means trouble," Percy said in a triumph voice.
"What do you expect, a cookie?" Harry hissed.
"You're going to have detention for this Potter," Percy said with a large smile on his face. "A month of detention."
"No, I'm not," Harry said in a cold voice. Merlin, he hated him. All he seems to do is piss him off.
"Get out, Percy," Artemis said.
"No, Filch has gone to get Professor McGonagall. I am to make sure neither of you runs away." Percy said as he glares at the two.
"The only reason why you're staying," Harry said in a slow voice. "Is because you want to see Artemis's body."
"I do not!" Percy protested, but his ears turn red as his face turn crimson.
"Then you won't mind waiting outside while we get dress," Harry said.
Percy opens his mouth but closes it. It was clear he could not think of a reasonable excuse to come back with.
"Get out, Weasley," Harry said.
"I," Percy said as he puffs out his chest. "I am Head Boy! You do not have the authority nor the right to tell me what to do."
"I'm Head Girl, now get out," Artemis said.
"No, we wait till…"
"GET OUT!" Artemis screams.
"What is going on?" Professor McGonagall said as she arrives with Filch.
"I caught Potter out of bounds with Wynter," Percy said before Harry and Artemis could say a word. "Wynter should have her Head Girl status revoke for inviting another student in the Prefect's Bath!"
"For your information Weasley, I have every right to be here…" Harry hissed.
"Enough." Professor McGonagall said, causing everyone to fall silent. "In my office."
"Have Weasley step out so we can get dress," Harry said.
"Very well, Mister Weasley, step outside."
Percy did not look happy, but he turns heel and steps outside. Professor McGonagall also steps out with Filch, allowing the two to put on their robes.
The moment they were done, they step outside.
"Follow me." Professor McGonagall said as they follow her in silence. Percy Weasley had a large smirk on his face during the entire walk.
"Now, tell me what is going on." Professor McGonagall said.
"As I stated…" Percy began.
"Yes, I've heard from you, Miss Wynter, what is going on?"
"Harry and I were taking a bath. As it was well within both of our rights," Here Artemis gives Percy a dirty look. "Then Percy bursts into the Bath without knocking. He refused to leave after we ask him to so we could get dress."
"He's been doing this all week, Professor." Harry quickly added.
"What do you mean, Mister Potter?" Professor McGonagall asks.
Harry then explain how he and Artemis were staying with the Weasleys at the Leaky Cauldron for the week, and how Ron and Percy kept barging into their room. Mostly at times when Artemis was getting dressed or coming out of the bathroom.
"I expected better behavior of you, Percy." Professor McGonagall said.
"Potter is exaggerating, Professor." Percy quickly said.
"So, he's lying that you haven't been trying to sneak a peek?" Professor McGonagall said. Percy said nothing as his ears turn pink once again.
"I seem to recall Professor Snape, reminding you to leave Miss Wynter alone in your fourth year. Do we need to have another discussion with you? This time with your parents?" Professor McGonagall said.
Percy's ears turn red as he realizes things weren't going as he had hoped.
"I think you're missing the point, Professor," Percy said. "I caught Potter out of bounds and gave him month detention for using the Prefect's bath."
"For your information, Mister Potter has the right to use the Prefect's Bathroom. He's the Slytherin's Quidditch Captain. You will recall how Quidditch Captains have the same rights and privileges as Prefect's, don't you." Professor McGonagall, in a voice that clearly said it was not a question.
This time Percy flushed a deep red color as he looks at Harry in horror.
"Professor, Potter is too young to captain a team…"
"If you have a problem with me as a Captain, why don't you take it up with my House Head, Professor Snape." Harry snaps.
Percy said nothing as he glares hard at Harry.
"The only reason why you're upset issue because you can't get me in trouble like you have wanted since I arrived," Harry said.
"You cause trouble, it's my job to stop troublemakers…"
"Then, look at your own brothers." Harry snaps. "They cause nothing but trouble. I wasn't out of bounds, and I was well within the school rules to be in that bath."
"You two were…"
"Merlin, are you that jealous that I won't do that with you, Percy!" Artemis said.
"See here…"
"Enough." Professor McGonagall said before Percy could say another.
"Seeing how there is no foul play, I will request you all return to your dorms immediately. As for you, Percy, you abuse your position again, and you will lose Head Boy privileges. Is that understood?"
"Yes, Professor," Percy said softly.
"Good, now return to your dorms. If I so much as get a whiff of trouble, then you will not like what I have in store for either of you. Is that understood."
"Yes, Professor."
"Good, now return to your dorms, and if I catch wind of you, causing another disturbance…"
Nothing was said as Artemis and Harry turns to leave, the mood was dead, they just return to their dorms. Though they did add insult to injury by holding hands in front of Percy, who looks like he wanted to scream.
Harry kisses Artemis on the lips, Merlin he loves those lips. He then goes to his dorm, where Blaise was already sleeping. Harry said nothing as he climbs into bed.
The next morning Harry walks down from the dorm stair, and immediately, Professor Snape walks up to him.
"Potter," Snape said in an even tone.
"Professor Snape," Harry said calmly.
"As Quidditch Captain, you have to book the pitch for your first team tryouts as well as training. Do try to win, the last two years… haven't been kind." Snape said with a smile.
Harry knew what he meant. Flint was Captain for the past two years. The first year he chose his team poorly. Causing Slytherin to be placed in third. Last year because of the attacks, the school faced, the Quidditch matches were canceled.
"I've already booked the pitch, sir, for this morning."
"Last minute calls?" Snape said softly.
"If they can't be ready this early, they can't be ready for a real game. I'm doing full tryouts, no favoritism." Harry said, strongly.
"Do try to win, there is a lot of pressure for being a Captain the first time," Snape said with a curt nod, and he walks off.
"You really holding tryouts this morning?" Blaise said to him.
"Yeah, I got up early so I can get down there," Harry said as he sits down and scarfs his face.
Harry looks up as he could see Percy and Ron Weasley staring at him. Ron had a dark look on his face when he stares at Harry.
Harry sighs as he returns to his plate and sets it down. He gets up and decides to get ready for the Quidditch tryouts.
Author Notes: Hope everyone enjoys, I made Harry weaker from the Dementor's because he did not grow up a happy child.
