Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the Spartan and the Legionary. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY or Halo. Monty Oum, Microsoft, 343, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Beacon, Ozpin's office)
Leo hung around the school's statue, pausing to check his armor and such. He thought back to his fight with Pyrrha and hummed. She was good for someone who wasn't a soldier, which impressed him, but he was also curious about Ozpin's response to the Covenant.
"You know, I don't need to see you know your there," Leo stated as Pyrrha walked around the edge of the statue. "Come to tell me something? I've got a lot on my mind." Leo stated while sitting at the base of the statue in question.
"Why are you so volatile rather than allowing others to know you?" Pyrrha asked, sitting beside Leo while the Spartan placed his SAW upon his back and turned to look at her.
"You don't know what the Covenant were like during the war," Leo stated, anger carrying in his voice as he turned to look at her. "You think the small army we're fighting is bad? Back during the war? They had millions of ships, billions of soldiers. No matter what the brass tried? We kept getting slaughtered if it wasn't for HIM? We might never have ended the war." Leo added, shaking his head as he did so.
"You said countless lives were lost during the war," Pyrrha added, pulling her knees up to her chest. "Was it so bad that Spartans couldn't do anything to change it?" Pyrrha added as Leo hummed and nodded.
"Yes," Leo stated as he looked down upon the floor. "Imagine the worst battle you could think, endless massacres where NOTHING you does works. Imagine fighting for every inch of survival and just finding bodies upon bodies piled atop each other." Leo stated while planting his hands on his legs.
"I'm beginning to think a piece of you never really left the war, did it?" Pyrrha asked and got a shrug. "You know there's no good bottling all that up when it comes down to it," Pyrrha added to which Leo could only chuckle and turn to her.
"I dare you to find a shrink qualified enough to unpack a Spartan," Leo said, blinking behind his visor. "Spartans were BORN for war; we thrive on it. That is part of the reason we don't function well without war. What good is a soldier without a fight? Spartans aren't peacekeepers, we're war machines." Leo added while slowly raising himself to his feet.
He looked down at Pyrrha who was far too busy thinking about something. He couldn't blame her for having her views on things, but it was also clear that she DIDN'T seem to understand the very nature of the covenant war.
"There will be other fights here," Leo stated, slowly seizing up as he turned to look at Pyrrha. "There is ALWAYS another battle to be fought. The Covenant will return sooner or later, I'm sure you're ready to fight them when that happens?" Leo asked, his voice far more common and curious than anything.
The Spartan nodded, curious as to what would happen when the covenant came back. She couldn't imagine what had happened with the UNSC if they were losing the war THAT badly. Then again? She wasn't present, Leo could be simply embellishing it to suit his narrative.
"I'll be returning to the Infinity for now," Leo said, nodding in the direction of the massive warship hanging overhead. "If you need me? Go talk to one of the UNSC soldiers around here, I'm sure they get you a ride to Infinity." Leo added before turning and slowly walking away.
Pyrrha watched the spartan depart, a thousand new questions swirled in her head. All of them crying out for her to stop Leo from leaving, to force him to admit to his flaws so she could help him.
But she knew that was a fool's wish. Leo was slowly coming more and more out of his shell. She didn't want to press him to come out of it faster or such, it would only destroy any progress she had made at the moment.
"I'd like to talk when you return if that is alright?" Pyrrha questioned Leo, getting a nod in return.
"When and if it comes down to it? Yes." Leo said, turning towards the elevator a moment later. "Until then? There's more business to be done, business I need to attend to as soon as possible." Leo added, brushing off his armor as he did so.
Leo knew the talk back would be more awkward than he believed, but it was something he could focus upon. Leo turned and marched outwards the courtyard, ready to get this business down. He needed to focus on the business at hand, however, and until that was done? He couldn't focus on anything else.
Leo only hoped Captain Laskey was ready for the Covenant.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to apologize for this chapter taking a while and being short. I am going to slow down a bit on updating this story and such.
