Chapter 35

"Aiyora..."

"Aiyora..."

"Come to me, Aiyora..."

"Yes, sit on me... just like that."

"I'll tell you more of Juuri's story today..."

"Do you like to play with my hair Aiyora...?" As the little girl nodded enthusiastically, the man flashed a eerie smile. "Good girl! Your Otou-chan also loves to play your hair. No, he actually loves to play with every part of you."

Long fingers belonging to a large hand gently caressed her face. The touch, the warmth and everything about it felt so familiar. Just like the voice itself.

•••

The pair of blue eyes shot open.

"Welcome back Aiyora-sama. You woke up earlier than we expected." The friendly faced lady hoovering over her face sighed in relief.

The said pureblood sat up, cautiously looking around her surrounding and it felt very unfamiliar.

"Where am I? And who are you?" She asked the woman who was fondly watching her.

"Please forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. My name is Sakura, I'm a long time employee at the council. Earlier when you passed out Ichio-sama personally asked me to look after you."

"I passed out?"

"You were unconscious for over two hours."

Memories flooded back into the pureblood's mind. She remembered meeting Ichio, filing a legal complain against Kaname. He was reluctant to take the complaint. Then a boy with mismatched eyes came to her rescue after which everything went black.

"Um... I remember meeting a little boy with red and blue mismatched eyes before everything blacked out. Do you happen to know where he is?"

"Forgive me Aiyora-sama. I have not seen someone who fits that description. But if you want, I could ask someone else."

"It's fine don't worry about it. What time is it anyway?"

"Almost 3.00 pm. Would you like to eat something? Shall I bring you some food or fresh blood perhaps."

"Actually, fresh blood would be perfect. Also I would like to return to the academy soon as possible. If you could have that arranged."

"I will have that arranged right away. As for the fresh blood, would you prefer I pour it in a glass or do you wish to have it directly from the source?"

"Directly from the source? Do you have options of human available?" The pureblood arched a brow.

"Yes we do. In fact we have a variety to choose from. Would you like me to show you some options?"

"It's fine, just bring it to me in a glass." Aiyora dismissed the woman.

After the lady's exit the pureblood plopped back to the bed. With her arms spread out and mind plagued with the thought of that boy and the dream she just had.

What are the chances those two are connected?

"Where did you go so early in the morning? I went into your room twice but you were not there."

"I went to the council."

"The council...? Why...?"

"To press charges against you." Came her cocky response.

The male raised an eyebrow, clearly entertained. "What kind of charges?"

"Rape."

She told him with a straight face and

Kaname had to suppress the urge to laugh out loud. They were walking down the hallway to class. He did not want to laugh like a maniac and draw unwanted attention. After all who in their right mind would believe; the person who is walking hand in hand with you and smiling cheerfully has filled a sexual assault complaint against you. Like any sane person, Kuran Kaname also assumed his fiancée was joking.

"How adorable!" Freeing his hand from their entangled one, the taller pureblood wrapped it around the shorter one's shoulder. Automatically Aiyora leaned in closer as if to seek warmth.

As they almost approached the classroom Kaname's footsteps slowed down. Aiyora noticed Yuuki glaring at the figure that just entered their classroom. The younger pureblood's brow crunched together. As her attention shifted from Yuuki to the man. He gave off a very odd smell along with repulsive aura.

Her focus was pulled back when Kaname told Yuuki the following.

"You know Yuuki, I have not seen Kiryu all day today." Naturally, Yuuki tensed. His words put more pressure on her already conflicted mind.

"For his betterment, perhaps you should reconsider his transfer to the night class."

The purebloods did not wait for Yuuki to respond. They left her outside to dwell on her thoughts.

Entering the classroom Aiyora found the man with the repulsive aura standing behind the teacher's desk. Wait! Not only was the smell and aura around him bizarre, he also had a disgusting eyepatch on. Clearly he was no vampire from a noble family, which explains the disaster in the name of fashion.

What's with this wannabe pirate look?!

It was after the purebloods settled down, the person with the questionable looks introduced himself.

"The name is Yagari Toga, and I will be your new ethics lecturer starting from today. Before we begin... hello vampires."

There was a strange spitefulness in his tone that didn't sit well with Aiyora.

Who is this ugly man, who dares speak to us in such demeaning manner...?

"Yagari!?" Ruka, who was standing next to Kaname's seat made a comment after recognizing the surname. "Isn't that the best vampire hunter currently working. And this guys is going to be our ethics lecturer. The headmaster has surely lost his mind."

Okay... now it makes sense. The wannabe pirate is actually a vampire hunter. No wonder his aura is so repulsive.

"He's probably the one responsible for last night's gunshot." Hanabusa added.

Naturally most vampires started to panic and that changed the temperature of the room.

Aiyora recalled hearing gunshots in the distance soon after Yuuki and Zero ran off. Now she knows who caused it. However, it slightly hit her pride that a vampire hunter is going to be their teacher now. On this point she completely agreed with Ruka. Honestly, what was the headmaster thinking? Is it some kind of scheme of the hunter's association to spy on the night class?

"No need to worry, rest assured today I'm fully qualified and certified to be a teacher of this class."

As if! Aiyora rolled her eyes. In her opinion, a hunter would never be qualified enough to teach vampires. It's simply a disgrace. Her eyes moved to Kaname, to see his opinion on the matter.

"So then... you came to spy on the night class?" Kaname mocked the hunter and let his thought out loud.

Oh you're speaking my mind.

"... Or maybe the real reason you're here is so that you can try and kill one of us right... Yagari-san?"

"Well now, hello Kuran Kaname. Regrettably my execution list is empty now but, if you find my lecture boring and fall asleep during my class, I might as well add your name to the list."

Aiyora danced her face between her fiancé and the hunter. Clearly amused by their exchange. However, Kaname's minions missed out on the humour and instead acted aggressively. Both Ruka and Hanabusa simultaneously turned glaring daggers at the hunter. Hanabusa stood up slamming his hands on the desk while Ruka hissed like a serpent ready to attack.

"How dare you say that to Kaname-sama!"

"Ruka... just relax would you!" Like always Akatsuki had to jump in to mediate the situation.

While all this fiasco was going on Seiran suddenly appeared beside Kaname and whispered into his ear. He gave her a nod of approval, then closed his book and left his seat. As he passed the hunter, the taunt left his lips.

"I'll be careful, teacher."

Once the door closed after Kaname's exit, Aiyora spoke up.

"He just walked out on you like an insolent brat. Maybe now you have a reason to add his name to your execution list."

"Kuran Aiora, fiancée of Kuran Kaname."

"It's Ai-yora, not Aiora." She corrected the hunter. Then continued keeping her arrogance intact. "If it's too difficult for you to pronounce then feel free to address me as Kuran-sama."

The hunter raised a brow, baffled. This one was twice the brat when compared to the older one.

"Are there any questions?" Yagari asked the whole class once the introduction period ended. When no one answered, he decided to end it for tonight. Having a hunter as their teacher was something these noble vampires weren't expecting. Surely they would need a night to process.

"Well then, class is dismissed." The hunter concluded. And as he was about to walk out, a dagger flew towards his direction from the back. But the hunter was able to block off the attack on time using the book in hand as the shield.

Aiyora looked back to see who this individual was.

"Look, a little welcome gift! I think I'll just keep this as a memento from the times that I'll spend teaching vampires." Yagari said before walking out of the class.

.

.

.

Soon as the night class returned to the dorm Seiran appeared before Aiyora.

"Kaname-sama has summoned you."

"Tell him i'll be there soon."

"He has asked for you now."

"Fine!"

People like Takuma and Senri grew concerned. As neither had any idea as to what was going on. Nor did they have any knowledge on what happened between the two Kuran after they left yesterday's party.

He could not phantom.

He took another close look at the girl who stood in front of him. She looked so innocent and naive. There's no way she could do such a thing. Kaname found it impossible to believe. No, Aiyora would never put such allegations against him.

"The council sent me this letter..."

He slid passed the letter across the table. His face showing full disbelief and full faith on her.

Aiyora picked up the neatly folded white sheet while Kaname continued to speak in the background.

"I cannot seem to wrap my head around the matter. Is that a misunderstanding on their end or a deliberate move by someone else...?"

Dude do you have amnesia? I just informed you this afternoon.

"I refuse to believe you are behind this. I'm sure someone is trying to create some sort of misunderstanding between us. The council actually prefers for the purebloods to be stuck in a loveless bond. Now that things are better between us... it is posing as a problem for them."

Apart from the silence, the younger Kuran had nothing else to offer him. What was she going to say anyway— 'hey I filed a complain against you.'

"Please just tell me that you have nothing to do with this. And I will personally deal with the corrupted senate that tried to draw a wedge between us. I promise you."

Once more, all she offered him was her silence. She handed back the letter to him and walked towards the coffee table in front of the couch. Her vision focused on the glass and beaker of water placed at the centre of the table.

Kaname watched her movement, still patiently waiting for her response. But Aiyora seemed to occupy herself with a completely irrelevant task— she was making a glass of drink.

"Please say something Aiyora, tell me they're trying to frame you."

Still no answer. She just continued to count the number of tablets in hand before dropping them into the glass.

Suddenly, a faint smell of blood reached them. It was the smell of Yuuki's blood! Aiyora tensed. She turned to Kaname to examine his situation. His focus was still upon her. It looked like he was in a completely different place to process anything else.

"Do you realize what's taking place? What our sister is doing?" Aiyora finally opened her mouth, as she waited for the tablets to dissolve.

Kaname did not bother comment. Honestly in that moment he could careless about who fed whom.

"Do you wish to go check on the matter?" She pressed.

Her carelessness was taking him to the edge of his temper. The letter on his hand slowly turned to ashes and slipped through the gap of his fingers. Despite not accepting the reality, he is now aware of what she has done.

"Okay... Probably it's best if you don't." She said sarcastically, taking note of what just happened.

"Aiyora..." there was a warning in his voice. But it did not really affect her much. Otherwise she would not have been able to so boldly approach him with the drink she just made.

"You look livid." Her tone was light, as if she was joking. "Here, drink this..."

She handed him the glass.

"Your head and heart both will cool down."

"Aiyora..." he reached for her wrist and grabbed it tightly. "Please tell me... this is not true."

She let out a sigh before pulling her wrist free.

"...Anyway I'll go check on them and update you once you're in a good mood."

Kaname could only watch, as she walked away from him, farther away.

What you did wasn't right Aiyora. It was truly unfair... and yet I cannot bring myself to be angry at you. If only you knew what your existence means to me. Because even after such cruel act, this heart is already searching for reasons to forgive you... without caring about the fact that you haven't yet asked for it.

The moon was shining brightly that night.

Yuuki was marching back to the headmaster's main residence when she suddenly noticed Aiyora coming from the opposite side. She offered the vampire a somewhat nervous smile but received a frown in exchange.

"Aiyora-chan why are you outside roaming and not in class?"

"Our class has ended early tonight. You would have known if you were nearby— speaking of which where were you?" The vampire asked, closing the gap between them. So she could brush away Yuuki's hair and reveal the bandaid on her neck.

"I... I... went to check on Zero. Making sure he was alright."

"If you were just making sure he was alright then why is a bandaid pasted at the crook of your neck."

She knows doesn't she? Yuuki's round eyes went wide in fear. However she saw no point in lying.

"You know... don't you?"

"And I must say that I'm very disappointed. Do you have any idea what your actions represent?"

"I don't care what my actions represent! ...All I know is that Zero has suffered enough. And I won't let him suffer anymore alone."

Aiyora raised a brow, amused.

Recently Yuuki was getting into the habit of talking back to the vampires in a very disrespectful manner. And as pureblood Aiyora didn't favour this trait of her older sister, quite as much.

"What about the fact that you're hurting Kaname while choosing to stand by Zero's side? Have you ever given that a thought?"

The short haired brunette looked away, guilt seeping through her. During this time Aiyora took the opportunity to take hold of Yuuki's hand. She held the other's hand in such a fashion, that, to a viewer it would seem like the pureblood was begging the human.

"Please Yuuki-sempai, try and understand what you're trying to protect will only end up causing my brother more pain. If my onii-sama's existence means anything to you please act wisely."

Having expressed her thoughts Aiyora let go of Yuuki's hand abruptly and walked away. Leaving the human to dwell on her own thoughts.

I told myself, I would never regret what I did for Zero. What I don't understand is... why that makes my heart ache so much?

From a far off distance Yagari Toga witnessed the scene and it left him at a state of great confusion. He has heard rumour at the association that Kuran Kaname harbours weakness towards some human girl. There is no doubt in his mind that Cross's adopted daughter is that girl. More importantly this girl just committed one of the greatest taboo. A person like Kuran Kaname should have gone mad with rage. Yet he was nowhere near in sight. While his sister was the one soliciting.

What's going on?

•••

Instead of going to back her dorm, Yuuki actually rushed back to the headmaster's house. She threw herself on the sofa and buried her face into a cushion.

I don't need her to remind me... I know better than anyone else what Kaname existence means to me. And yet, what I did to him was...

She didn't want to think anymore, she couldn't.

•••

Zero returned to the headmaster's residence for his night shower. The bath in his dorm has been broken for days and the headmaster is yet to fix it.

He entered through the kitchen entrance and headed straight to the bathroom. Which was why he noticed Yuuki until he stepped foot into the living room after he was done with his shower.

For the longest minute he just stood there and watched the naive girl as she slept so vulnerably. Still in her uniform and no blanket to keep her warm.

His keen vampiric vision helped him see the small goosebumps spreading all over her skin.

He fetched a comforter from the nearby room and put it over Yuuki.

"You'll catch cold."

In her sleep she muttered a name.

"Huh?!" Zero's heart came to a stop before it almost exploded as he recognized it to be the pureblood's name.

His hand reached out to touch the bandaid on her neck. A dull ache rose to his chest. Yuuki may have voluntarily gave him her blood. Perhaps out of pity. However her preference was Kuran Kaname and it would always be him. Yuuki can lie and deny all if she wants to but her blood doesn't. That pureblood was all she was thinking about, while feeding him her blood.

...unbeknown, he was leaning in closer and suddenly bloodlust surged through him.

Zero pulled his hand away as fast as he could and sat down on the floor, clutching onto his throat. Breathing heavily in order to regain his composure. And that's when suddenly—

"Let's go outside." The silverette looked up to find Kuran Kaname leaning against the door frame.

It was one of those rare moments when Zero obey without questions asked.

The footsteps disturbed Yuuki's sleep. Her eyes slowly opened and as her vision cleared she was able to catch a glimpse of Zero walking out and Kaname follow him.

She sat up confused. It was unexpected to find the pureblood here at this hour. Was he truly here or whether it was a fragment of her imagination Yuuki wasn't certain. But then, the warm blanket caught her attention.

"Did Kaname cover me up?" And she safely assumed it was him.

•••

Outside in the garden:

"I have not told you why I tolerate your existence? Now, especially after what you did, I still let you off ...unpunished."

Zero wasn't surprised by the pureblood's anger. He drank Yuuki's blood. The confrontation with him was inevitable.

"Even when you invaded a territory that I couldn't reach. You dared to sink your lowly filthy fangs into someone who is only meant for me. Not willingly, but you still touched her. Tearing you apart won't be enough. It won't calm me down. Because Aiyora's existence is not meant for anyone else."

Huh!?

Zero shot his head at the direction of the brunette, utterly confused. He did not see that coming. What are the chances that in rage, Kaname messed up the names and accidentally called Yuuki, by his sister's name.

"However, I also realize the dangers of Cross Academy's pacifist posture. Along with your need in Yuuki's life. That's why I gave it a great deal of a thought... to just who in this little garden be a best shield to Yuuki? ...I know that you would never betray her, especially after what you have taken from her. And that is why I am sparing you, allowing you to live, Zero."

•••

Back inside:

Yuuki was still on the same spot, caressing the blanket. She pulled the blanket closer and nuzzled her face against it affectionately.

Our relationship has changed, since the night I have witnessed him drink blood. Something inside me changed since then. But there is onething that will never change, and that is the part of me which will always love Kaname.

Next morning:

Aiyora was on her way to the kitchen, when she came across the crowd that gathered outside Kaname's door.

At first she thought about making an about turn and take the longer route. Then changed her mind. As going to the kitchen now wasn't necessary. She only wanted a glass of water. A maid could get that for her.

"Looks like president Kuran has locked himself in his room."

Isn't that Rima's voice! The pureblood looked back at the group and much to her dismay, both Senri and Rima were there.

"Alright, so what have you done this time Hanabusa?" Everyone turned to the Aidou heir after Akatsuki's subtle accusation.

Silently, Aiyora joined the group and picked up the pieces from the conversation as to what was going on.

"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!" The blonde at first snapped. Then, in a defeated tone clarified. "Besides if I did do something, like always he'd have punished me in front of everyone."

"He presents a valid point." Aiyora said, gaining everyone's attention.

"That's true. Kaname-sama never holds back when it comes to punishing Aidou." Akatsuki agreed.

Ruka looked away. A look of growing concern visible on her face. Like always Akatsuki noticed the change in her demeanour and looked over, just to make sure she was alright. Aiyora watched the two aristocrat, secretly, admiring them.

"So... what do you think could have happened?" Out of the blue Rima questioned. And automatically everyone diverted their attention to the person for whom, the question was meant for.

The pureblood who was delightfully admiring the two gorgeous aristocrat, turned to Rima, now fully irritated and snapped.

"How am I supposed to know? I'm not his personal assistant. Ask Seiran. She might have some clue."

"You're his fiancée. Isn't it normal for you to know more than Seiran does. Besides you were the last person to see him after we returned from class—"

"Are you suggesting I am responsible for this?" Aiyora pointed a finger at Kaname's door. Her temper now sitting at the edge. How dare an aristocrat jump to conclusion and accuse her.

However, Rima did raise a valid point. As a fiancée it is Aiyora's duty to know. Now if she can't provide a proper answer. It will make her look like an incompetent fool in front these guys.

Fortunately, under pressure Aiyora's brain worked at the speed of electricity. So it didn't take long for her to come up with a presentable excuse.

"I'm sure most of you noticed faint smell of blood. Who do you think that blood belongs to? Even if others can't, I'm sure you recognize the smell Aidou-kun... right?"

"It's the smell of Cross Yuuki's blood." Hanabusa confirmed.

"Exactly! Yuuki-sempai's blood was spilled last night. Now connect the dots and you'll have your answer."

Everyone looked convinced. Aiyora was ready to let out a sigh of relief but Rima opened her mouth once more, and ruined that brief moment of victory.

"It doesn't make much sense, President Kuran barely interacted with the prefect in the past few months." Rima was not making things up, she was presenting facts. Which made situation difficult for the pureblood, especially if she wanted to retaliate.

Aiyora bit the inside of her mouth. Her temper was almost reaching it's breaking point. If possible she would have thrown the pig tailed girl in a cage full of thirsty level-Es and watch them feed on her.

"So you are holding me accountable, for my fiancé's mood-swings... huh Rima?"

Instantly came the reaction in support of the pureblood. Hanabusa charged, all set to fight. "Are you suggesting Aiyora-sama is lying!?"

The aforementioned pureblood was disappointed that Hanabusa spoke up for first and not Senri. She cast him a disappointed glance.

"No. I meant—"

"You're interrogating her, Rima. That's not fair." Senri cut her off. Although he was slightly late, but doesn't mean he would let anyone bully his Ai-chan. Even if the person happens to be his good friend.

Senri's intervention prompted Takuma to jump in to diffuse the situation before it escalated further.

"Actually I wouldn't worry, I'm sure Kaname just has few things in mind right now. He'll be fine in no time. Well that's enough chaos for now, let's all go to bed." He made sure to remain as diplomatic as possible.

Given the time of the day it worked. Vampires would rather be in bed now than battle out to know who's right and who's wrong. Everyone was just about ready to leave when another voice intruded from behind.

"Master Takuma...? Here they are, all the books you requested... would you like me to take them to your room for you?"

Everyone turned to find the head maid of the moon-dormitory holding a huge stacks of books which piled all the way up-to the ceiling.

"Oh yes please. That would be perfect, thank you."

Aiyora shot the green eyed blonde a look. With her gaze asking when would he get the time to read all these.

"Where is Kaname-sama?" The maid inquired.

Ugh! Why is everyone looking for him?

"Do you need him for something?" Takuma asked in turn.

Aiyora noticed the small tray the maid had in other hand. Which contained clipboard with some kind of a form and a pen.

"A guest will be visiting the dorm and is requesting permission to enter."

The pureblood already knew what this was all about. However she kept her mouth shut and acted oblivious while Takuma took the form and looked at it. Only to scream at the top of his lungs seconds later.

"This can't be! ...No way!" He was murmuring at first.

"You okay Takuma?" Senri asked.

"Is something wrong?" Hanabusa joined.

"It says... that my grandfather... IS GOING TO COME HERE TONIGHT!"

Everyone looked at him dumbfounded, except for Aiyora. Who tactfully grabbed the form from him and signed it on Kaname's behalf before handing it back to the maid.

"Here you go, permission granted."

•••

All of them moved down to the foyer.

Takuma, who stood at the centre was still trying to come out of the shock.

"Isn't your grandfather..." Akatsuki trailed off.

"Isn't he the..." Hanabusa also trailed off.

"Yes, that's him. In the human world there isn't a single business venture with which his company is not somehow involved. The Ichijou group was founded by him. And in the vampire world, he is the patriarch of one of the most elite aristocratic family. Ichijou Asoto. Also known as 'Ichio', and as a member of the the senate he is the vampire with most seniority."

"I still don't get it, why is Ichio coming here tonight?" Akatsuki asked Takuma.

"I don't know."

Oh I know why he is is coming. Sadly if I let any of you get a clue, chances are... my entire plans will go down the drain.

"You okay Ai-chan?" Senri's concerned voice pulled her out of thoughts.

Shaking her thoughts away Aiyora flashed him a childlike smile and responded. "Never been better."

"We have nothing to fear. I understand the senate is powerful. They are the supreme governing body of our society and demands our respect. In the end they are not the ones who rule us." Ruka spoke bravely. Stating why they shouldn't worry.

Wow! You're so confident. Acting like being under Kaname's shadow guarantees you safe haven. If only you knew... how badly he is going to get screwed tonight.

"Well, that's true." Whilst Takuma fully agreed with Ruka, he couldn't just shake away his concern. "But still... I don't want him to come and disturb the relative peace, that this dorm has established... For Kaname's sake too."

•••

When evening came, everyone got ready and gathered in the lobby as per the vice president's instruction. All classes have been cancelled for the evening. Takuma made this executive decision on Kaname's behalf who was still locked in his room. Aiyora also wasn't present. And Takuma chose not to bother her. After all his grandfather was visiting him, it has nothing to do with the purebloods. Or that's what he thought.

"I heard Ichio is coming."

"Yeah, that's what I heard too."

" I wonder why though..."

"I just hope everything is alright."

On the other side of lobby:

"Everyone looks scared out of their life. Is this old senator that frightening?" Ruka who was standing by the stairs, chuckled. She found it hilarious how everyone has been in a panicking mode since the news of Ichio's visit spread. Her companions cast her a look.

"Of course! There's a reading to be frightened. He's a monster who has been alive twelve times longer than us. I suppose that's why everyone jointly decided to skip class and be here." Akatsuki responded.

"Even he admits he's scared." Rima murmured.

"Well so am I Rima. But I wonder who's scarier... Dorn president Kuran or this guy?"

"You're kidding!" Hanabusa joined in. "That's obvious..."

Ichio was just outside the door, his powerful aura already drifted into the dorm.

Takuma who just joined his group turned back, suddenly sensing a familiar presence approaching. He turned around and saw Kaname coming down the stairs.

"Kaname!" He quickly ascended the stairs to stop his friend. "Don't worry, you don't have to be here for this. I'm sure my grandfather is just coming to lecture me about something."

Kaname was well aware, that it wasn't the reason for Ichio's visit, but acted oblivious.

"It's alright, I haven't seen Ichio for quite sometime..." The brunette said walking past his friend. "I'd like to say hello, may I?"

"Of course you may, but..." Takuma trailed off, confused. Then followed after his friend who went ahead and stood at the very front.

Not even a minute later, the main entrance (wooden double-door) opened up, revealing the elderly blonde figure clad in black cloak.

•••

Aiyora checked her appearance in the mirror for the umpteenth time. Just to make sure she looked appropriate enough to firmly stand up to her accusation.

She quickly exited her room after hearing the sound of someone getting tightly slapped. Without a doubt the younger pureblood could bet, that the one giving the slap is Kaname. But was desperately hoping and praying that the one receiving the was anyone but Ichio.

To her relief, it turned out to be Aidou Hanabusa. Why? That part was still unknown. Aiyora vaguely heard the voices of Ruka and Hanabusa right before stepping out of her chamber. But didn't pay much attention as she had her own set of issues to deal with.

However the duration of time she took to descend the stairs gave her an idea of what took place—

-Ichio tried to have a taste of Kaname's blood.

-Ruka-Aidou interrupted on time.

-To saved Aidou from Ichio's wrath Kaname punished the former instantly.

How dramatic!

"Aiyora-sama..." Ichio went ahead to offer his hand to the approaching pureblood. As she accepted, he guided her down the stairs.

"Ichio-donno... I wasn't expecting you this quickly."

The senator brought their adjoined hand to his lips and kissed the back of her palm.

"You've needed me, how do I not respond?"

"Thank you so much. You're very kind."

Most people present there were confused, particularly Takuma. As the first announcement his grandfather made soon as he stepped in was that, he was here to see his grandson. Now that Aiyora made her appearance he changed his statement. Curious green eyes darted towards Kaname and Senri to see if either of them knew anything. Whilst Senri remained as confused as him, Kaname had his signature vacant face on.

"So where shall the meeting proceed?" The older blonde asked, facing Kaname.

Inside Kaname's office:

Kaname was occupying his usual spot. Ichio took the seat placed on the other side of the table with Aiyora by his side and his grandson Takuma quietly standing behind them.

"Aiyora-sama, first of all allow me to offer my deepest sympathy. What happened with you should not have happened. It was wrong on every aspect. ...However you are very fortunate, since such incident happened at the hand of your fiancé. Rather than some stranger or lower-ranked individual."

Takuma drew his brows together confused. Till now he has no idea what this is all about.

"Are you justifying rape because it was done by my fiancé?"

What?Kaname raped Aiyora...!?

Takuma's eyes went wide. He cast a shocked glance at all three of them but none of them took any initiative to clear out his confusion. Kaname maintained a dignified silence while grandfather and Aiyora kept getting back and forth with each other.,

"Please hear me out properly Aiyora-sama. All I am trying to say is that with your situation, the solution is simply— get married sooner."

"No!" Aiyora exclaimed. "Marriage isn't the solution I am willing to settle down with. I want justice! And you have to serve me justice. Is that understood?"

Ichio cast the older Kuran a side-eyed glance. The latter kept gaze down, casting a shadow over his face. Takuma also looked at the brunette, disappointed. He couldn't believe his friend was capable of stooping this low.

"Aiyora-sama, before serving you justice, I must listen to the other side as well. Kaname-sama... would you kindly share your version of the event with us please."

The old senator waited for Kaname to speak. But the aforementioned male maintained his silence. Even though his gaze have now managed to settle upon Aiyora.

"Kaname-sama do you have nothing to say." Ichio was hoping for him to speak. The silent he kept the difficult it was becoming to defend him.

"Why do you keep looking at him? Have you forgotten that he is the culprit, Ichio-donno?" Aiyora snapped.

The senator raised an eyebrow. The equation wasn't matching. He has met several rape victims in his long lifetime and not a single one harboured attitude like her.

"Since Kaname-sama presents no argument, seems to me the trial won't be long and will be in your favour Aiyora-sama. However before we proceed to the next step, you have to sign a bond with the council."

"What kind of bond?"

"A bond assuring the council that, if you do by chance conceive, the life created shall not be terminated. If needed the council will gladly take over the responsibility. Pureblood's are running low in numbers. Therefore my personal belief is that it would be foolish to stop the birth of one."

"But that's impossible! I won't get pregnant."

Both Ichijous raised a brow.

Whilst Ichio's stood for- 'please explain yourself'

Takuma's stood for- 'What is going on?'

"You claimed to have been raped. So please explain how is it impossible for you to conceive?"

"That's because I forcefully fed her contraceptive. After I..." Kaname trailed off. He finally spoke, for the first time since this meeting started.

The heavy silence consumed the already existing tensed environment of the room.

Initially, Takuma turned to Kaname in disgust. Provided, his friend just admitted to committing something so vile. However as he looked at his friend, this time more closely, he noticed something strange. The Kaname who never shows the slightest bit of emotion, made history today. Although the slightest, but his face had emotion, which the Ichijou heir recognized as... Betrayal.

He refocused on the girl talking to his grandfather. Like most times Aiyora was wearing her emotions on her sleeve. However the kind of emotion he discovered weren't the ones he was looking for. At this point he could not help but view her suspiciously.

Kaname why aren't you saying anything...? Speak up! Please... say something. Tell me you did no such. You're not that vile of a monster.

"Let's get to the bottom of this, what is your expectation? Are you looking forward to getting him punished? A trial that would lead to imprisonment perhaps."

Takuma looked at his grandfather astonished. Why was he suggesting punishment without conducting proper trial?

"No! I have no interest in taking such intense measures— My condition is simply, our engagement must end. I no longer wish to be betrothed to a person who doesn't possess the minimum decency to take my consent."

"Well, if that is your desire I will present this case to the council. Have them undergo a trial. The most important members will act as the jury body— myself including before the verdict is delivered. But let me warn you Aiyora-sama, the journey is not going to be smooth. Many will try assassinate your character, sink to the lowest level to find your fault. In the end if you are proven guilty your penalty will most definitely going to severe than his."

"I do not fear the consequences. I will go through the trial, wait as long as needed and allow my character to be assassinated, even if it's the only method to end my engagement to him."

"Correct me if I am wrong... all this that you're doing, is it to seek justice for yourself or just to put an end to your engagement? Because if the latter is found to be the reason, things would get beyond difficult for yo—"

"Is there a way to avoid the trial?" Kaname intervened.

"Yes of course there is. But that is if you confess in for of the allegations made against you and accept her condition then the matter can be solved right here."

"Then be it."

"Kaname!" Takuma gasped. Now more than ever he's sure of his friend's innocence.

"Does it mean you are accepting all the charges your fiancée is pressing against you?"

"...yes."

"Think about it, you have a good— name in our society, the most clean image for a vampire of your status. Are you willing to accept such accusations and taint your image? ... Keep in mind, it is beyond my abilities to stop the gossipers from spreading rumours."

"I care not about my reputation. However I want to make sure her image is not tainted."

"Well then, for now keeping my grandson as the solo witness I verbally declare the end of the engagement contract between the two of you. However the paperworks will be sent out soon."

"So it done? We're no longer engaged?" Aiyora asked Ichio dancing a finger between her and Kaname.

"Yes, both of you are officially free from each other." He declared, giving Kaname the side-eye.

"So onii-sama, do you want to make a joint statement in order to break the news to the night class." Aiyora faced Kaname. The expression on their faces presented quite the contrast.

"You do what you think is best. Just know that I am right by your side." In that moment Aiyora's happiness was shadowed— no completely eclipsed by the sadness reflected on Kaname's eyes.

"Alright, I will breakdown the news to the night class." Aiyora announced, gleaming in the glory of her new found freedom. Then facing the Ichijou heir, she requested. "Would you please gather everyone for me."

Once Aiyora and his grandson left Ichio spoke up. More like offered an advice to the pureblood.

"To be honest, what just happened did not surprise me."

Kaname's moved his focus onto the chessboard. Trying his best to ignore the man.

"A small advice, next time you have a fiancée... make sure to put her on tight leash. Do not give her the same amount of freedom as this one."

When the pureblood made no comment, the senators understood he was expected to leave. "I shall take my leave then, have a goodnight Kaname-sama."

"Kaname onii-sama and I have mutually decided to end our betrothal. Going forward we will only remain as siblings."

The sound of gasps penetrated through the air. The night class, that was gathered in the library was shocked and speechless. Takuma who was standing behind Aiyora, kept his gaze down in order to avoid the questioning gaze of his peers.

Once the shock subsided series of whisper broke out. Until someone from the crowd felt brave enough to speak up.

"Why did you both decide to end things so abruptly?" Hanabusa was the one that asked. While everyone was shocked, he was heartbroken. The expression on his face made it seem like as if it was his engagement that broke.

Before Aiyora could answer another person joined him.

"For the past few months he has been exceptionally devoted and dedicated to you. So why are you leaving his side?"

"Was infidelity involved from any side?" Another person asked.

"First of all— the decision was jointly made by the two of us. And neither of us owe anyone, any explanation. Nor was there a need to personally disclose this information to you all." Aiyora dived in to respond before the questions could get more personal and intrusive.

"...However, I consider you all my friends, hence why I felt obligated to break the news myself. Now— there's no need for you all to know why our relationship ended. What you need to know is that— despite our relationship status I will continue to fully support my brother in this venture."

Her curious eye continued to search for Senri in the crowd and located him at the very back.

"Another thing, perhaps the most important for me personally— I recently came to know that Kaname has accused everyone of you for not respecting me enough. Tonight I would like to assure you, all such orders are now null and void. Kuran Kaname no longer has the authority to decide how others should treat me. I decide that! So starting from now... stop the bowing. It's really annoying. That would be all. Thank you for your time."

Once her speech ended Takuma motioned the others to follow him to the exit. Ruka was the only one that remained. Patiently waiting on the side for the pureblood to be alone.

After everyone left and Aiyora was about to make her way out Ruka spoke.

"Why does it seem like you're betraying Kaname-sama?" Her tone came out harsh, like she was demanding an explanation.

Aiyora's footsteps came to a halt, she faced the aristocrat with a small smirk playing at the end of her lips.

"Souen-senpai... don't waste your time with me. Go comfort the man you adore so much. He very vulnerable now. Who knows, tonight you might get lucky."

Ruka eyed went wide at the suggestion.

Kaname remained in his study. The plan was to seclude himself from everything for the next couple days till his mind sorted out everything. He was lounging on the divan, going through some reports in order to distract his mind. It's been sometime since he noticed Ruka's presence outside his door.

At first the pureblood ignored her in hopes that she would go away if he simply continued that way. But half hour later she was still there, on the same spot... patiently waiting!

"If I continue to ignore you, would you wait out there forever... Ruka?" Not being able to take it in any longer, Kaname addressed the problem. Actually he just wanted to be done with her faster.

The door slowly opened, the aristocrat outside finally had the courage to step into his territory.

"It's just that, unlike Aidou you haven't given me my due punishment. So..."

"You want me to slap you, you're an odd girl."

"Kaname-sama you're very kind, the actions you took saved Hanabusa from Ichio, didn't they?"

"It just happened to turn out that way." He simply brushed off her flattery.

The aristocrat eyed the pureblood with hopeful gaze while he simply continued to ignore her. She was about to take a step closer when one of her foot landed on a paper. It was then her attention was grabbed by the papers and some books that were carelessly scattered on the floor near his couch. An indication that the said pureblood wasn't his self at the moment.

"It seems that you're not your usual self tonight." She stated conversationally as she picked up some of the papers and handed them back to him. Who only offered her a simple 'thank you' in return.

"Aiyora-sama has already declared to the night class that she and you are no—"

"I see." He cut her off before she could finish the sentence. Even if he was wearing the emotionless face but the hint of sadness remained evident in his voice.

If Ruka was annoyed by the younger pureblood before, now her feelings have changed to pure hatred. Yes, despite being an aristocrat she hated Kuran Aiyora with every cell of her body. Because whatever her beloved Kaname-sama was going through at the moment it was all that girl's doing. Single handedly she broke this strong man! And for that Ruka will never forgive her.

At the same time, the part of her that desired the pureblood felt grateful to Kuran Aiyora.

"Kaname-sama..." Her skillful fingers quickly undid couple buttons of the lavender coloured blouse she had on and exposed ample amount of cleavage before boldly presenting herself to him.

"If I could provide you some sustenance... blood, body or both. Whatever it is that you want, just take it." Using a finger Ruka inflicted a small wound on her neck and allowed the blood to roll down her neck and hand before dropping on the pureblood's face.

They shared a moment of deep eye contact before the male cupped her face...

"That's enough Ruka. Listen, there is nothing to worry about," using his other hand he wiped the blood off of his face. "I'm perfectly fine."

"Alright..." She backed away, broken from the rejection.

Meanwhile...

"Aiyora-chan... did Kaname really..." Takuma hesitated. After all, how can you ask a girl who just went to the highest governing bodies to seek justice, whether she was actually raped or not? It's highly insensitive and inconsiderate. Then again the so called victim's behaviour was making everything look suspicious. Which made it harder for him to stick to his earlier decisions.

Sensing his discomfort Aiyora made it easier for him. "To answer your question— no."

"What do you mean by no!"

"He didn't rape me." She clarified.

"WHAT?!"

"Ssshhhh!" She placed a finger on her lips and silenced him. "Don't scream."

Then grabbing him by the wrist she rushed off to her room and slammed the door shut. Corridor isn't the place where such matters should be discussed.

"So ...Kaname did not rape you?" Takuma asked again once they were in the safety of her room. He wanted to confirm, no he needed to... for his friend's sake.

Aiyora assured him with a nod of her head.

"So what happened last night, between the two of you? If he didn't rape you, he must have done something else which prompted you to take such drastic measures in such short time. When I first learned about my grandfather's visit I thought he was coming to see me. But now it's clear— his main purpose of the visit was to sort out the mess between you and Kaname. ...So please tell me Aiyora-chan, tell me what happened."

"Do you really want to know?"

"...Yes."

Aiyora thought about it for a moment. Unsure whether it would be wise to tell him. But in the end she decided to come clean—

After bringing her back into the room, Kaname actually apologized for the aggressive kiss. He even gently dabbed her bruised lips with his thumb to make sure he didn't hurt her much. After Aiyora assured him 'it was all good' and 'she was alright' and forgave him; was when Kaname finally got the courage to take the next step.

He lifted her form off of the floor and walked themselves to the divan, only to gently place her down before resting his head atop her chest.

They remained like that for a long time. Looking every bit like lovers in fairytale.

"Aiyora..."

"Yes?"

"...I love you."

"More than Yuuki?" The question left her mouth instantly.

"More than anyone." His response matched her speed.

"More than Yuuki?" She repeated, her voice firm.

"Yes." He assured. "I came to realize long ago, that my feelings for Yuuki changed."

Aiyora made the face that stated she did not believe him. Which in turn put more pressure on Kaname.

"I will do anything to prove it." He sounded desperate.

"Really... what can you do for me?"

"Anything!" He was so desperate that he could not even hide.

"Are you capable of harming Yuuki for my sake?"

"If that is what you truly wish for, then nothing can stop me." Unknowingly he was letting his guard down.

"What if I want you to let me go? What would you do then?"

Silence. Absolute silence...

No response came this time.

Aiyora looked at clock, she was timing him actually. It was exactly after two minutes he spoke. And the response was,

"I-I don't know."

"That's not an acceptable answer." She pressed.

"Honestly speaking, I do not wish to think about a future that does not consist of you... I hope you understand."

"I do... perfectly."

There was a moment of silence before he called her again. This time in the most tender voice possible.

"Aiyora...?"

"Yes..."

"Please don't leave me." It sounded like he was begging.

And the idea kicked in!

Instead of responding to his statement verbally, she flipped their bodies. Kaname was now laying on his back with Aiyora straddling his hips.

"Why would I leave you? What gave you that idea?"

"It's just that... nothing. Forget about it."

"Exactly! Forget about everything and enjoy the moment."

Kaname was about to ask what that meant but she cut him off in the right time. As she leaned in and gave his lips couple of deep kisses.

While Kaname let his guard down and got himself lost into the sensation, Aiyora started another game. During the second kiss her hands slowly trailed down his chest and abdomen to his trouser. Before he could even process what was taking place quite a bit happened.

His belt already unbuckled... zipper undone...

The sensible part of his heart screamed at him to stop before it was too late and there was no turning back. However, the part him that was consumed by lust refused to listen. It will only wanted to follow her lead...

Despite several warnings from his subconscious mind, Kaname could not hold his hands back, which were exploring all over Aiyora's body. Clothed... unclothed... whatever it could reach.

At their third kiss he gave everything. His focus narrowed down to her, her mouth that he was kissing and her tongue which he was tasting.

Once that kiss broke, Aiyora started to make her way down undoing the light grey blazer and the shirt he had on in the process.

Naturally, Kaname tensed sensing what is about to come.

"No! No you don't have to do such a thing. You're still very young." Coming into some sort of senses he made the faint attempt to stop her.

"But I want to do it." Her voice reassured him, like she was giving him her consent.

"Aiyora no, the time isn—" an unwanted groan left his mouth at the chilling sensation of his desire meeting her mouth.

He grabbed fistful of her hair, but lost the strength to pull her up. He chewed into his bottom lip and allowed the eyelids to close down as inferno of pleasure consumed him completely. Thus putting an end to his final attempt to do the right thing.

"Yeah... so that happened." Aiyora concluded.

Takuma abruptly sat down on the nearest seat he could find. He needed to sit down and process everything. What he just heard has put him in a state of complete and utter disbelief. This isn't the Aiyora-chan is anyway familiar with! What happened to the innocent girl he knew and who is this corrupted soul that possessed her?

"I don't understand why would you carry out such a filthy act?"

"Excuse me! What do you mean by filthy act?" Aiyora turned defensive and glared down at Takuma. "I did nothing wrong. That person was still my fiancé. More importantly, I simply took the measures that helped me out of that unfavourable engagement." She stood strong on her ground.

"But why take such a path? Why not talk to him? Tell him directly."

"Do you honestly believe that would have worked? For months I've tried to ignore him and what did that lead to? Nothing! Like you said earlier, none of you are in any position to help when he is the opponent. Therefore I was left to dig through my own way."

"Um... I'll get going for now. See you later. Have a good night."

"Sure."

Takuma wasn't sure whether he wanted to be in her company at the moment. So he chose to see himself out. As he was walking across her room, towards the door. His footsteps slowed down because of the burden he felt on his shoulders. By the time he reached the door, his footsteps came to a full stop. He did not want to say it, but couldn't keep the thoughts with him either. He had to let it off of his chest.

"I understand where you're coming from, Aiyora-chan. However I hate to be the bad guy and point it out, what you did with Kaname today was unjust and absolutely unfair. At the same time it is leading me to believe, he truly does care for you. Just the way ten years ago he saved Yuuki from a level-E, today he saved you from den of monsters that are far more dangerous than a blood thirsty level-Es. Sadly Kaname will never receive his due credit for this heroic action. Not from you or the council. If anything, saving you has cost him his clean image and good-name... forever."

He cast her one last to see if she had anything to say. When no one words came from her. He understood it would be best to leave.

Next afternoon:

Ichijou carefully placed the tray on the table and called the pureblood who has been absently staring at the television screen.

Kaname's watching television!

At first Takuma was taken aback. His friend isn't a television viewer. All those times spent at the Ichijou estate never once did the brunette turned on the device and always got irritated whenever Takuma watched them with loud volume. Even the one placed in his dorm room, sat like the show-piece... until today.

Wait...

Only to realize moments later

He's watching Aiyora.

Takuma felt the urgent need to find the remote, so he could turn off the television. Sadly he couldn't find the damn object anywhere.

"Kaname why don't you watch something else." He carefully threw in the suggestion. Watching Aiyora like this is not beneficial for Kaname in such state. In fact it'll hurt more.

"..."

"Or turn it off... maybe." Came the alternate advice.

"..." And still no response.

So he decided to change the topic in hopes that it might divert his attention.

"I brought you some breakfast." He pointed at the tray. "These pastries are fresh off the bakery. Oh, I also asked the kitchen staff to make your favourite rose tea."

The brunette eyed the tray and Takuma took that as a positive sign.

Yesterday when Kaname locked himself up, Takuma gave him space. More so because, back then he didn't exactly know what was going on. But today it's different. After knowing everything how could he not standby his best friend.

"Kaname... let eat together... like the old times."

"Has Aiyora eaten?" That was the first sentence to leave Kaname's mouth.

Takuma sighed, not knowing how else to react.

"Aiyora-chan is still sleeping."

"Ichijou... please take these away. I have no appetite."

"But Kaname you barely ate anything since the day before yesterday—"

"I told you, I have no appetite!"

"Is it about Aiyora-chan?" Takuma dared ask.

Although Kaname said nothing but at the moment his blank expression told a full story. He was trying, no doubt in that. He was desperately trying to seal away all those emotions but today his mind and body joined hands to betray him.

"There is something I want you to know Kaname. Even though I love Aiyora-chan to death, doesn't mean I support what she has done with you. Just the way I didn't support you all those years back when you despised her for simply existing. I stand on fair ground."

"Why are we having this conversation again Takuma? I already admitted to being guilty—"

"Because I know you didn't do it."

Kaname shot him a quizzical look, as if to ask what gave him the idea.

"Aiyora-chan told me everything. Don't worry I haven't shared this with anyone. Nor do I plan to."

Takuma took a moment to study his friend, who at this point didn't even look surprised.

"...Kaname, I'm sure even my grandfather understands you're innocent. Yet nothing can be done, as you have willingly decided to take all accusations over your shoulder."

Then there was a moment of heavy silence before the Ichijou heir spoke again.

"Why did you do it Kaname? ...just why?"

"...Because I don't want Aiyora's fate to turn up like the one's of Hio Shizuka."

"What do you mean?" The pair of green eyes went wide. How is Hio Shizuka's fate even connected with all that's been going on?

Finally, switching off the television Kaname proceeded to explain.

"Many years ago, Hio Shizuka also went to the senate to seek justice against her fiancé, my uncle, Kuran Rido. She claimed to have been raped by him. Even there were some witnesses who testified for her. Unfortunately, fate took a different turn. Despite being a true victim she received no justice. In fact Rido was able to pull strings and present her as an insane person, unsafe to the society and had her locked up."

"You mean to say..."

"The council's system is not fair, especially when it comes to the female gender. ...which is why I would rather have people take me for a rapist, than point fingers at Aiyora for being a lair."

"But—"

"Over the years I have caused her a lot of pain. For the longest time her existence meant nothing to me. Then came the opportunity to use her as the scapegoat to protect Yuuki, and U did. Then my feelings grew... and I tried every means to pull her closer. During all these not even for once, even by mistake, were her feelings taken into consideration. How Aiyora felt never mattered. First it was about Yuuki... then me. Therefore this is the least I could do."

"Kaname... are you in love with her?"

Before answering the brunette took a deep breath.

"It's one-sided. But that's fine... these feelings are solely mine and not to be shared with anyone. Not even Aiyora."

Meanwhile at the Ichijou estate:

"It's done, the engagement between Kuran Kaname and Kuran Aiyora has officially ended."

Ichio personally delivered the information Kuran Rido, who— even while possessing a little boy's body, looked every bit menacing and pure evil.

The pureblood was on a king-sized four poster bed, between two scantily-clad woman— a brunette to his left and a red head on the right. He was devouring the brunette while the red-head gently continued to rub his back. Once the woman reduced to ashes, Rido faced the awaiting aristocrat, licking his lips greedily.

"I see. She was not upset by this... was she?" There was a faint hint of concerned father in his voice.

"Not at all. Turns out he did no such thing. It was your daughter who plotted the scheme, in order to get out of this arrangement."

"I guess it would not hurt to say, how proud as a father I am. Anyway... how is that fake heir dealing with this?"

"On the contrary he has been affected deeply. For someone who shows no emotions under any circumstances; disappointment and betrayal shined through his eyes all throughout. What surprised me was that despite being innocent he accepted the accusations of a crime he did not commit, just so that he could save your daughter's dignity."

"Interesting!"

"Interesting indeed." Ichio agreed. "Especially when I recall the look of disgust Kaname-sama had on his face when the proposal was first presented before him. And look at him now. ...What a tragedy?"

"Actually... I don't blame him Ichio. In a twisted way I can understand where he is standing. It's is hard to resist that girl's charm. On the bright side, this is the exact outcome I needed. You see, the more that ancestor weakens towards my Aiyora, the easier I can fulfill my purpose."

"Which is...?"

"Why do you think I awakened that monster from the coffin, Ichio? So that he could fuck my daughter?" Rido snarled sarcastically.

"Your initial plan was to..." Ichio trailed off.

"It still is to devour him. In fact now the plan feels more feasible. With how everything is progressing I'm sure it will be my precious daughter who will present him to me on a golden platter."

"I'm not entirely sure how your plan is going to work? Their engagement has already ended. Next thing you know he might be going back to his sister who lives under the disguise of a human somewhere."

"Ichio..." The expression on Rido's face changed to a sinister one. As he gathered the woman's scarlet hair to one side. Absently, some of his fingers continued play with her hair the same way as it used to do with Juuri's.

"...that ancient got a taste of Aiyora, my Aiyora. Nothing in this world will ever be the same for him. His fate is inevitable! No force in this world can stop him from becoming my prey."

With that said he licked the women's neck and sank his fangs, making her cry out in pleasure.
