Magical Origins
Year 3: The Dementors Feast
The next day the whole school held their breath to hear that Sirius Black was captured only for the Professors to announce he manage to escape.
As the days passed, the school seem to talk of nothing but Sirius Black and how he managed to get so deep in the castle without being seen.
Countless students were offering wild suggestions and ideas about how Sirius Black might have managed it.
This also created a problem as Harry and Lily could no longer wander around the castle like they used to be alone. They couldn't even find time to spend time to talk to each other. Ron and Hermione spent all their time with Lily as Harry was now being shadowed by Daphne and Blaise. Even Artemis was seen hovering around Harry.
Thankfully, something eventually came up that caused the school to talk about other than Sirius Black.
The first Quidditch match of the season was about to start.
Everyone was confident that Gryffindor, which had won its last two games against Slytherin, would walk away with the victory once again. Both Harry and Wood were training their teams hard.
For Harry, he had to prove to the entire school that he deserved to be Captain. That he was the right man for the job.
The weather was a problem. Heavy rain poured down with high winds.
On the day of the match, everyone eating a heavy meal. Knowing what was in store for them later. That was when something unexpected happened. Dozens of owls carrying large parcels drop them at several students who look stunned at the package. They open the parcels and everyone was stun to see the new Nimbus Two Thousand and One in their hands.
Up at the staff table, letters were given to each Head of House as they read it carefully.
'Consider this a well earn investment to Hogwarts future Quidditch Teams. Now the playing field has been given equal standing to all teams!
Harry Potter
P.S. Please keep quiet about my gift to the House Teams quiet, I do not want trouble from my peers!'
"A Nimbus Two Thousand and One, but who?" Ron said in shocked.
"A gift to the Gryffindor Quidditch Team," Lily said as she looks at her note. She looks up and sees Harry smirking face, who, upon noticing her gaze on him, gave a cheeky wink. She knew at once that Harry spent a fortune to give each house a total of twenty-one top racing broomsticks.
Lily said nothing as she stares at Harry in shock.
Harry Potter was genuinely kind.
Harry hurried his team to the Slytherin locker rooms. Harry puts on his Quidditch robes and grabs some extra equipment.
"Here," Harry said, tossing them goggles and face masks.
"What's this?"
"The wind and rain are going to be pouring heavy. I got the Impervious Charm on them, so we won't get soak. Also, it will be hard to play with just our eyes. We're not cheating, we're just taking advantage of the rules that Gryffindor is too stupid to realize." Harry said.
The looked relieved and just satisfied at Harry's reasoning.
"Gather around, I know in the past, Slytherin has done things… differently. I do not play that way. I do not want people going around, saying I don't have the skills to be on a team and have to cheat to win. If we're going to play, then the House of Slytherin will be known as the team that completely dominates the Quidditch fields." Harry said, strongly. Everyone nods their heads. Knowing that this is what Harry wanted. "Let's go," Harry said as he grabs his broom and jumps on it. The rest of the team follows suit and follows Harry on the pitch.
"Here comes the Slytherin's, led by the new team Captain, Harry Potter! Joining him as chasers are Blaise Zabini and Draco Malfoy. I guess being friends with the captain and having money sure earns your spot on the team." Lee Jordan said. His comment was met by many boos from the Slytherin's. "Keeper is Daphne Greengrass, and the Seeker is Tracy Davis. The first-ever girls on the Slytherin team. Returning to the team is Lucian Bole and Peregrine Derrick as the team Beaters!"
The Slytherin's cheered themselves hoarse as Harry led his team around laps the field.
"Here come the Gryffindor's! Lead by Team Captain Oliver Wood! Who is the team Keeper! Followed by the three most beautiful girls in the school, Angelina Johnson! Alicia Spinnet! And Katie Bell! Twin Brothers and the Team Beaters Fred and George Weasley. Followed by the youngest Seeker in the Century, Liliana Morris!"
Gryffindor screamed itself hoarse at the Scarlett team flew around the pitch.
Harry moves into position as the rest of the team got into place.
"Now I want a nice clean game… from all of you." Madam Hooch said, looking at Harry. Harry said nothing knowing the Slytherin had a dirty reputation in Quidditch. "Captains shake hands." Harry moves forward, as did Wood. Harry shakes Wood's hand, not even trying to crush Wood's hand. Wood had a lockjaw as he did so. They let go, and Wood flew back into position.
Harry grabs his goggles and lower face mask and puts them on. The rest of the team follows suit. The Gryffindor's looked a bit confused as they stare at the Slytherin's whose faces could no longer be seen.
Madam Hooch opens the crate, and the Bludgers shot up, followed by the Golden Snitch. Both Tracy Davis and Lily look at it as it disappears into the howling wind.
"As everyone knows, everyone is flying on a Nimbus Two Thousand and One! A Generous gift from a mysterious donor. Madam Hooch releases the Quaffle, and the game begins!" Lee Jordan shouted.
Harry shot forward and grabs the Quaffle before Angelina Johnson could secure the Quaffle. Harry shots forward and passes to Blaise, who ducks a Bludger before passing it back. Harry kicks Alicia Spinnet away from him as she attempted to steal the Quaffle. Harry passes to Draco as he also avoids Katie Bell, who chased after him.
Draco pulls back his arm and releases the Quaffle. The Quaffle heading to the middle hoop.
Wood moves to intercept, but Harry beat him to it and grabs the Quaffle before firing it at the lower hoop.
The gung sound of the bell echoed throughout the pitch, signaling that Slytherin had scored.
"Ten points to Slytherin!" Lee Jordan shouted. "That's okay, Gryffindor hasn't lost in two years against Slytherin. Captain Oliver Wood passes to Angelina Johnson. She dodgers a Bludger and speeds up the pitch. Angelina, watch out!"
Harry had already moved in. Harry quickly shoulders tackles Angelina pushing her into the sides and away from the middle of the pitch. Harry kept shouldering her until Angelina Johnson was near the stands. She flew up, trying to overrun Harry, but Harry stayed on her. She looks to pass the Quaffle, knowing she didn't have a clear shot at the goals. But she notices Blaise and Draco were flying next to Alicia Spinnet and Katie Bell, in position to intercept the ball and prevent her from passing to her teammates.
Harry slams into Angelina Johnson again, forcing her dangerously close to the out of bounds marker.
She grits her teeth and shoots forward. She pulls back her arms and releases. Daphne Greengrass, who was guarding the middle post, moves forward and grabs the Quaffle in her arm. Saving the goal.
"Greengrass saves it!" Lee Jordan shouted. The Gryffindor's moans as the Slytherin cheers. Gryffindor broke off their pursuit and flew to the middle of the pitch as Harry moves forward to take the Quaffle.
Daphne passes to him, and Harry immediately moves behind Blaise with Draco off to the side.
The Gryffindor's move into an attack position in hopes of regaining the Quaffle. Blaise brings out his arm and grabs Katie Bell, who tried to get past him. The sudden defensives tactic force Alicia Spinnet who was behind Bell, to break off, allowing Harry to shoot forward.
One of the Weasley's twins manages to hit a Bludger at Harry, but Harry ducks and moves forward.
Angelina Johnson was behind him. Trying to keep up with Harry, but Harry was quick.
Harry shots forward just as Draco moves forward to block Woods's field of vision.
Wood moves to block the right ring, but Harry had already released the Quaffle. Sending the Quaffle into the middle ring.
"Slytherin scores! They lead twenty to nothing." Lee Jordan shouted. "Captain Oliver Wood passes to Angelina Johnson. Watch out, Angelina…"
But the warning was too late, Harry pressed Angelina again, and this time, Bole sends a Bludger to her hitting her in the back causing her to drop the Quaffle. Harry grabs the Quaffle and rushes to the goal post. Harry attacks the left side before passing to Draco, who catches the Quaffle and shoots at the lower hoop. Another gong echoed the pitch, signaling that Draco had scored.
"So Slytherin leads thirty to nothing. However, the game has only begun."
Harry led the attack against the Gryffindor chasers forcing them to only attack a specific spot. Daphne was making save after save.
With the score sixty to nothing, Oliver Wood called a timeout.
"What is going on?" Oliver Wood shouted.
"They are playing differently." Angelina Johnson said.
"They haven't even committed one foul." Katie Bell said as she grabs a bottle and drinks from it.
"I told you guys Harry would be leading a different charge from Flint," Lily said with a smug look on her face.
Oliver Wood hits the table in frustration.
"We were relying on the fact they would commit fouls for us to pull ahead. They've never played like this before." Oliver Wood said in disbelief.
"I told you, Harry doesn't use underhanded tactics to win games. He plays fairly and equal. He believes skills win games, not cheating to win." Lily said with a smile.
"How can you be sure?" Katie Bell asks.
Lily holds up her broom.
"It was Harry who bought all the Nimbus Two Thousands and One for the rest of the school!" Lily said.
"You're joking!" Fred and George said together.
"I'm not, didn't you see his face when all the brooms arrived? He was smiling. I knew at once he was the one who bought them. It also explains why he spent so much time at the Quality Quidditch Supplies this summer. I also know he spent a lot of gold at the store. Now I know why." Lily said with a smile.
"Why would he do that? He's not your typical Slytherin." Angelina Johnson asks in a concerned voice.
"What does he want from this?" Alicia Spinnet asks.
"The fact that he did this discreetly means, and to the fact he didn't like the underhand tactics Malfoy employed last year. Now, the playing field has been even, Harry merely wants to prove that he can with skills alone. The truth is, he may not want anything in return from this. Just give him a game to prove he deserves to be up in the air." Lily said with a smile.
Everyone was completely silent by Lily's statement.
"Even if he bought all the brooms, they're playing like they can see fine. The rain and wind are really making our plays struggle. Potter knows this and keeps forcing Angelina to the right where the wind is at its strongest." Oliver Wood said as he sighs.
"Why don't you change it up. Harry knows you're going to keep passing to Angelina, and if he knows that, that means he can keep putting pressure on her to attack the same area over and over again." Lily said.
"That means we're going to have to change our strategy. We weren't ready for anything like this." Oliver Wood said.
"I told you," Lily said in a sing-song voice.
"Lily," Hermione said as she appears in the Gryffindor pit.
"What Hermione?" Lily asks.
"I got an idea here… Impervious." Hermione said, tapping her goggles.
"What did you do?" Lily asks.
"It repels water and mist. You should be able to see better now." Hermione said, beaming.
'Is this what Harry did?'
Harry looks at his team.
"How are you all doing?" Harry asks.
"We're completely soaked," Daphne said, referring to her wet quidditch robes.
As water didn't bother him, Harry felt wonderful and refreshing. However, his teammates were another matter. Many of them were pale as ghosts.
"I'll speak to Madam Hooch if we can end the game if it gets too rough. The way I see it, the game will end soon if the weather doesn't die down," said Harry. He grabs his bottle and drinks. The refreshing water soothes his thirst.
"Tracy," Harry said, looking at Tracy Davis. She looks at him. "Be careful of Lily, she's a better Seeker than you are. I have a feeling she'll pull a feint on you to take you out of the game." Harry said in a warning tone. Tracy nods her head.
"Are you all ready to reassume play?" Madam Hooch asks as she comes over.
"Madam Hooch, if the weather continues to get rough, will you end the match before my teammates freeze death?" Harry asks.
"It is getting rough. If this continues for the next thirty minutes, I'll call it." Madam Hooch promised.
"The game resumes. The players retake the field as Madam Hooch signals to restart the game. Captain Oliver Wood has possession of the Quaffle, he passes to Katie Bell. The Slytherin's are on the attack…"
If there was one thing about being Harry Potter that was better than most people, is that he always did things that captured people's attention. He lines up next to Katie and pulls her into a kiss. Katie Bell was so stunned that she drops the Quaffle in shock.
"Foul!" Gryffindor cried out. But no whistle was blown as Draco Malfoy picks up the Quaffle and speeds off to the goal post.
Harry breaks the kiss and speeds off, leaving Katie Bell confused by his action.
"You cheating scum!" Lee Jordan shouted into the megaphone, dancing out of Professor McGonagall's reach.
Many students were stunned by this bold move, but other students had larges smiles while others cheer at the brilliant move by the Slytherin Quidditch Captain.
Draco throws the Quaffle into the goal making the score seventy to nothing.
Wood was stun that Harry Potter kissed his chaser in broad daylight. In front of the entire school no less.
Lily was red in her face, and the water that was hitting her body was starting to turn into steam.
"Not going to use underhand tactics," Lily said underneath her breath. She was steaming so hard that Tracy Davis looks a bit nervous.
The bell gongs through the pitch signally Slytherin scored once more.
Wood grabs the Quaffle, and Katie Bell was red in her cheeks. He passes to Alicia Spinnet, who speeds off.
"Katie, pull yourself together." Angelina Johnson shouted towards the fourth year.
"Right," Katie Bell said as she takes off.
Harry looks down at the edge of the field and could see a large black dog watching the game with a massively wagging tail. Harry smiles as he considers Sirius excited to see the game, and heads back to his position to keep close to the action.
Slytherin was dominating, pushing the Gryffindor chasers into the sidelines close to the out of bounds area. Forcing them to take a bad shot after bad shot.
Finally, a break happened for Gryffindor, Angelina Johnson finally broke through the Slytherin defense and scored. Making the score eighty to ten.
Harry sped forward and scores again. Going for impossible angles and forcing Wood out of the pocket. Ninety to ten.
Katie Bell grabs the Quaffle and takes off. Harry moves in again, but this time she was on guard. She takes off, and when Harry moved in, she passes to Alicia Spinnet to ensure this time, she does not drop the Quaffle.
Alicia dodges a Bludger and passes to Angelina, who quickly fires into the lower hoop. Daphne moves to block her, but she manages to score.
The score was ninety to twenty.
Harry had possession of the Quaffle and was halfway across the pitch when the crowd suddenly stood on their feet.
Tracy Davis and Lily had suddenly taken off. Both were near the out of bounds area but were pushing their brooms to the max.
Lily was closer to the Snitch, she had her hand outstretched to grasp it. But Tracy was close behind.
That's when it came.
A sudden cold that caused Harry to suddenly lose all focus and hearing.
A woman was screaming. Filling his ears.
'Not Harry, not Harry… please, not Harry.' A woman was pleading in his ears.
A high pitch cruel laughter filled his ears.
'Stand aside, you silly girl. Stand aside now!'
'No, take me instead. Kill me…'
'Avada Kedavra!'
A flash of green light appeared beneath Harry's eyes as the sound of high cruel laughter filled his ears.
Harry drops the Quaffle before he slumps down on his broom and falls off.
Everyone points at Harry, who had fallen. He slammed into the ground hard and didn't move.
The crowd suddenly screams upon seeing hundreds of dementors above them moving down.
Lily hands slowly drop, and she too falls off her broom.
"Aresto Momentum!" Dumbledore shouted. Causing Lily to stop just as she reaches the ground. She then hits the ground, splattering mud all over her and everywhere.
The Dementors begins to close in. Chasing the Quidditch players across the field, filling the stadium with terror.
Everyone started screaming as the Dementors closed in from all around them.
Dumbledore stood on his feet and in a heartbeat, raises his wand. A white bird of some kind appeared and let out a powerful shockwave.
The Dementors screamed in agony as the glowing white bird let out shockwave after shockwave throughout the stadium.
The Dementors fled, unable to feed any longer.
If anyone had looked at Dumbledore, they would have seen a furious look on his face and sent his glowing bird after the Dementors. Their screams filled the night.
Tracy Davis landed on the ground and fell on her hands and knees. She raises her hand to show that the Golden Snitch was in her hands. After that, she bends down and tries to catch her breath.
"Bring everyone in the castle at once." Dumbledore orders.
Harry and Lily were both layings in the mud unconsciousness and were not moving.
Dumbledore walks over to them and waves his wand over them. A magical stretcher appears as they were slowly brought back to the castle.
The Prefects were doing all they can to lead their houses back to the school.
Harry and Lily remain motionless as they were slowly being led by Dumbledore to the Healer Wing.
