Magical Origins

Year 4: The Last of Summer

Harry looks around the moment they all arrived back in Grimmauld Place.

Moving forward quickly, Harry rushed to the kitchen.

"Is master okay?" One of the house-elf asks.

Harry ignores the elf and grabs some water from the fridge, drinking from it.

"That mark… it was his mark, wasn't it?" Harry said slowly as he brings the water down.

Everyone looks at him.

"Yes, it was his mark. I used to see that mark all the time when I was little." Edward said carefully. Ava sits down, looking like a ghost. It was clear she has seen that mark before too.

"I don't have memories of that mark. But I know what it means, what it represents." Artemis said dubiously.

"Let's not talk about it, please." Ava Wynter said as grim expression came over her face.

It then occurred to Harry that Ava Wynter, whom he rarely spoke to, must have lost her parents to the Death Eaters in the sacking the Wynter's suffered when his own parents fell. It must have been a hard subject for her to recall so suddenly.

"It's late… we don't know when they'll be back. Everyone return to your rooms and try to get some sleep." Harry said delicately.

They said nothing as they get up and went to their rooms.

Harry climbs into bed and stares at the ceiling.

Artemis walks in and climbs in bed with him.

"Can't sleep?" She asks as she sits up on her side.

"No," Harry admitted.

"What happened?" Artemis asks.

Harry told her how Ron tackled him and attacked him. Then accused him of firing the Dark Mark.

"I think it's really time we put him in his place. His actions over the years have been problematic. All he does is accuse you of acts you don't do and repeatedly tries to get you expelled. I think it's time… we really let the Weasley's know how we feel." Artemis said.

"What do you have in mind?" Harry said.

"If Weasley is insistent on this childish tantrum of his, then his family is going to pay the price. Then my father and Sirius Black can have a chat with Mr. Weasley. Warn him if Ron Weasley continues his behavior towards you, then it will mean a Magical Dispute. Which means we could threaten to wage war against his family. This feeble feud of his has got to stop." Artemis said.

Harry said nothing knowing that what Sirius and Samuel would say to Mr. Weasley would be enough to wake his ancestor's graves. He could not afford a family dispute against a Great House.

Harry didn't know when sleep finally took him, but he slept through the night.

Harry woke up to see Artemis was sleeping peacefully next to him. Considering the excitement yesterday, Harry gets up quietly to let her sleep in and goes into the kitchen.

The elves look at him as the sun was rising.

Knowing he needed to get his mind off what occurred, Harry grabbed some eggs and other ingredients and starts cooking.

However, his mind kept going back to what he experienced at the Quidditch World Cup. The screams and terror that the Death Eaters inflicted at the World Cup. Harry couldn't help but wonder what the point behind the attack was.

Then Harry slowly was brought back to his dream he had just days before the Quidditch World Cup.

Voldemort, who was supposed to be weakened and in hiding, had somehow manage to smuggle himself back into the country and was in hiding in a seemingly abandoned mansion. Wormtail was with him; Harry knew this because Voldemort had called him by name at one point.

Only Wormtail wasn't alone. Another man, a younger man he didn't recognize, was with them.

Voldemort was plotting his murder.

However, everything he knew about Voldemort was that he rarely attacked in the open. He was secretive and preferred to remain in the shadows. So, Harry doubted Voldemort would openly attack him in any populated area where people could see him. That meant he had to be on his guard as this meant he would have someone spirit him away by some means to be brought to Voldemort. Harry couldn't help but wonder if the two were connected.

The front door opens, causing Harry to break out of his train of thought to see the adults walking in.

"Harry, you're up rather early," Olivia said, apparently startled to see him up and about.

"We were expecting you all to be asleep." Henry Morgan said in surprise.

"I woke up not too long ago," Harry admitted.

Harry immediately started fixing plates for everyone present and puts them on the table.

"Did you catch any of them?" Harry asks as he sits down with his own plate in front of him.

"No," Samuel admitted dispiritedly. "Just as we were about to capture them, they fled the moment they saw the Dark Mark. They Disapparated. Though it doesn't take much to hazard a guess who they were."

"The ones who managed weasel out of a stay in Azkaban," Harry said softly.

"Yes, Fudge is a fool to trust them. When we motioned to call upon former Death Eaters for questioning, Fudge immediately rebuffed any such attempts to do so. He was asking for evidence to prove they had them involved in this affair." Sirius says in a soft voice.

"That's a bit unusual, don't you think? He was so quick to cast judgment on Sirius. Yet, just as rapidly will turn and defend the Death Eaters. Is he a supporter?" Harry hazarded to ask.

"As far as we are aware, Fudge stands against the Death Eaters," Samuel said.

"But Harry does raise a fair question. Why is Fudge so quick to defend the Death Eaters? Is he supporting them?" Olivia said.

"Perhaps, we need a new Minister of Magic." Isabelle Morgan proposed quietly.

Everyone was silent as they look at each other, contemplating the idea.

"Perhaps you're right. Fudge seems to be protecting the Death Eaters. Perhaps we should get a different Minister of Magic." Olivia said softly.

"I know many Lords of the Great Families are not going to be pleased with Fudge. As he is protesting that his upstanding friends shouldn't be questioned for crimes, they obviously didn't commit." Samuel said.

"If he's friends with known Death Eaters, then he needs to look up the word friend again," Harry said. "This is only a facet of another problem of another we're facing, or to be precise, a problem I'm having."

"What do you mean?" Sirius said slowly.

Harry explain what Ron Weasley did and his accusations he voiced in front of several Aurors and security at the Quidditch World Cup. How Ron does all he can to label him as a Dark Wizard and an evil sorcerer.

"That boy really needs to be put in his place," Olivia said, coldly.

"If House Black and House Potter go up against House Weasley, well, the parents will keep the boy in line, or they will be forced to disowned him," Sirius growled sternly.

"Keep him in line. I don't want to keep going through another year where he spreads rumors I'm a dark evil wizard who will place curses on you if you look at me." Harry said.

"Disliking you is one thing. However, to spread such slander is far too much." Ruby Pearce said.

"Then, it is time to punish his family for his actions. It's about time, we lay it down." Samuel Wynter said.

With nothing more significant to add to the conversation, they said nothing as they ate the rest of their breakfasts in silence.

Apparently, Samuel Wynter and Sirius Black didn't want to wait to deal with this problem. Before the next hour had even arrived, both grabbed their things and were out the door, Isabelle Morgan trailing behind them.

Harry said nothing as he grabs some butterbeer and drinks from it.

"Arthur… I'm here to inform you that several lords have requested your presence." An Auror said as he walks up to Arthur Weasley.

"Give me a second, I have to…" Arthur began but was cut off by the impatient Auror.

"Now." The Auror snaps.

Arthur looks up from his work and stares into the eyes of the Auror. He lowers his papers and gets up.

Arthur said nothing as he follows the Auror to the Chamber of the Lords. The Auror opens the door, and he walks in feeling nervous. He walks in, jumping slightly as the door slams shut behind him.

"Arthur Weasley." Samuel Wynter stated in a wintery tone.

"Look I have lots of work I have to do, we need to resolve the issue at the World Cup…"

"I'm afraid Weasley," Isabelle Morgan said in a soft voice. "That the actions of your son at the World Cup is far more serious than you think."

"I don't understand, I told him not to steal again…"

"It's not about that, Arthur," Sirius said in a firm voice. "It's something far more serious."

"I don't understand." Arthur Weasley said slowly.

"When the Death Eater attack was happening, your son saw the chance to attack Harry Potter. Then upon the arrival of Aurors, he immediately accused him of not only firing the Dark Mark but claimed he was responsible for the attack as well." Samuel Wynter said coldly.

The color in Arthur Weasley's face paled significantly. Yes, this was very serious, indeed.

"You understand, of course, what he is implying. What he desires." Isabelle Morgan said softly. A hint of warning was in her voice.

"I assure you, House Weasley had nothing to do with his actions. Had I known, he would have been punished greatly for his actions."

"This is not the first time your son has gone out of his way to paint Harry Potter as the worst sort, however." Samuel Wynter said in a harsh tone.

"Ever since Harry Potter declined to become friends with your son, he has gone out of his way to tell everyone who would listen to him how Harry Potter is a dark and evil wizard. That Harry Potter could petrify you if you look at him. Now, a childish tantrum is one thing, This… this cannot be so easily forgiven." Isabell Morgan said in a soft tone.

No, it cannot. In the magical world, you do not make claims without being able to back it up.

"Your family owes a life debt to young Harry, do you not?" Samuel Wynter said coldly.

"We do." Arthur Weasley said quietly, remembering when Harry saved his daughter Ginny's life, with considerable risk to himself, from getting killed in her first year. Though Ginny didn't know how they manage to kill the basilisk. She only remembers being in Gryffindor Tower then waking up in the Healer Wing.

"Harry Potter wishes to call in that debt. That your family, specifically your son, will no longer say or do hateful things against him. You understand, what it means should these terms be broken, do you not?" Isabelle Morgan said sharply.

"I do." Arthur Weasley said.

"Then, we wish you a good day." Samuel Wynter coldly.

Arthur Weasley turns around and leaves. He knew at once, for this severe occurrence to someone who was a savior to their own family, that he was going to give Ron a lesson he would never forget.

Harry was sitting down in the Black Manor as everyone was going over their Hogwarts letters. It seemed like the only thing he would need this year were dress robes, the Standard Books of Spells, Grade 4, and the Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection.

Overall, not a lot, he needed this year. The dress robes might be a little pricey, Sirius would ensure he would have the best dress robes available. As would the Wynters.

Thankfully, Olivia was doing the shopping. Allowing Harry to avoid the crowds at Diagon Alley. He was sure people were still talking about the Death Eater attack at the Quidditch World Cup. When she came back, she had a handful of fresh quills, over two dozen fresh parchments, and bottles of magical ink and everything he would need for potions.

A tailor was called in to measure Harry's new dimensions again as he'd grown quite a bit in the past year. This was also set for his dress robes size as it was meant for something going on.

One thing was for sure, as Harry didn't go to Diagon Alley, it meant he had no chance of running into Ron Weasley. Who was surely going to start accusing him of being behind the attack of the Quidditch World Cup the moment he saw him.

Instead, Harry spent most of his time either reading his spellbooks and going over his notes or most nights with Artemis, who was even worse now that she was pregnant and wanted sex all night long. Most nights, that's all they did. Artemis had a serene smile on her face whenever they finished. Harry was also pleased to say he was also getting better.

Although he was sure, Lily was jealous as she had to hear them go at it every night. It didn't help that her room was next to theirs.

Harry walks downstairs and quickly looks at his books.

"Has Dumbledore been giving us trouble?" Harry asks Sirius, who was reading the Daily Prophet.

"No, he wasn't happy that you didn't want to go back to your aunt's place, but for a strange reason, he didn't press it. However, he did tell me something that might catch your interest." Sirius said in a serious tone.

"What's that?" Harry asks.

"That you should learn Occlumency," Sirius said.

"What's that?" Harry asks honestly as he never heard or come across that type of magic in his studies.

"I'm not surprised you don't know. It's a very complex type of magic that's not typically mentioned outside of certain circles. Since you're muggle raised, I trust you've at least heard the art of reading the mind."

"Yeah," Harry said slowly.

"It's a similar process. Instead, it shields your mind from many uses of potions and magic. Protects your mind from any unwanted guests." Sirius said.

"You mean the art of reading the mind is real?" Harry said in shock.

"No, the mind isn't like a book. It's a complex layer of thoughts and memories. However, those who can use Legilimency can sense and see these thoughts and memories. Voldemort is well known for it."

"Voldemort can…" Harry began alarmingly.

"Oh yes, he would spend hours tormenting his victims until he takes all their memories and leaves them begging for death. You become almost like a living husk when he is done with you." Sirius said.

Harry paled at the thought of that.

"That's why we're going to have you learn Occlumency," Samuel said as he walks in.

"Something tells me it isn't easy as it sounds," Harry said with a small smile.

"No, it is not. It took me years before I was able to master Occlumency. Even the basics of Occlumency will help you greatly. You're getting at the age where girls will attempt to seduce you. By any means available to them," Samuel said in a warning tone.

"Love potions," Harry mentioned shrewdly.

"That's correct," Olivia said quickly. "Soon, you'll be of marriageable age. Now, for many countless witches, they know, if they can get tied to you, then their future is secure."

"The ring we gave you will help detect potions in your food and drinks. However, some potions are difficult to detect. If you do get dosed with a love potion, then it would take a skilled potioneer, or even a Potions Master, to create an antidote for you." Samuel said.

"If, however, you have Occlumency skills, you could resist these potions a great deal and get help quickly," Sirius said swiftly.

"Why don't they teach this at Hogwarts?" Harry asks with interest.

"In some cases, it takes years to master Occlumency. It's also frowned upon as it is considered to be dark but not illegal. The Ministry of Magic also doesn't want this type of magic to be publicly known." Samuel said.

"That's stupid," Harry said.

"I think so too. However, many Great Families and their Vassals all learn Occlumency." Sirius replies.

"Ready to begin?" Samuel said.

Harry grins, before a thoughtful expression, came across his face.

"I think…it would be a good idea if Lily were included in these lessons."
Sirius and the Wynter's all shared considering looks between each other, but all nodded their agreement.

Harry smiled and went to call his friend to join them. He was sure this would cheer her up after all the recent events.
