Magical Origins

Year 5: A Dragon's Wrath

True to Harry's predictions, Dolores Umbridge began to interfere with the lesson plans. Mostly with Defense Against the Dark Arts. Umbridge began to challenge and question Professor Gorloisen's lessons and whether she understands what she was doing teaching 'children' spells that the Ministry believed they weren't ready to learn. It got to the point the only thing they were allowed to learn was theoretical defensives, with no practical work.

Umbridge started to become a nightmare, walking down the corridors with a clipboard in hand and that sickly smile on her face, flickering her wand at anything she didn't approve.

Boys and girls were no longer to be near one another, not even in class. They were forced to be separated to work in their own genders. They weren't allowed to touch one another or allowed to form relationships. Umbridge already pulled several sixth and sevenths years into her office about couples who were dating and forced them to break up. When many refused, they were put in detention.

Umbridge seized control of the Owlery as well, as all letters that were to be written home must be inspected and approved by the High Inquisitor. Many students roared in outrage as they wanted to send letters to their siblings, and parents. Umbridge refused to bend from her decision.

Never before has Filch been so busy working his ass off to assist in Umbridge's attempt to take over the school. Nor has anyone ever seen Filch so happy before, and it was a disconcerting sight to see him walking up and down the corridors answering Umbridge's call without question.

Umbridge also used her inspection to bully some of the teachers in class. The worse was Professor Twelarny. Professor Twelanry was demanded to actually make a single prediction, but Umbridge kept bullying her and tormenting her in her own classroom. Even Lily felt sorry for Professor Twelanry, and that was rare as Lily didn't like Professor Twelanry.

The Circle, as they now called themselves, mostly upon Hermione's persistence, they give themselves a name to identify themselves. Harry did not want to train Ron Weasley feeling the young Weasley could not be trusted, given his blind hatred of Harry. Lily understood knowing Ron would only do something dishonorable, placed several memory charms on him so he wouldn't recall the meeting or what they were doing. If Ron tried to remember anything about the group, he would only remember about trying to convince some of his fellow peers to ambush Potter and take him out before the first quidditch match only to be met with negativity knowing the backlash Harry would cast upon them as he was also a Prefect.

Lily also made sure Ron was in detention and cleaning the Owlery to ensure he couldn't bother the group in any way.

Upon the Fifth years who were starting to learn the Vanishing Spell, something Harry and Lily already knew and mastered, wanted others to learn this as well. Unlike duels, battles tend to cause debris to be everywhere. Harry explains in some situations, they would need to vanish objects that would be blocking their way, or coming at them.

It was a lot of fun learning the Vanishing Spell, as Harry had created several objects for the Circle to master in vanishing. Though he never told anyone, most of the objects were belongings to Ron Weasley.

Another then they had to learn was the Banishing Charm, and this was again a lot of fun given the fact that they could send objects flying at opponents.

Fred and George had particularly fun with this spell, as they would cause objects like the suit of armor and even a disturbing picture of Filch's mother chasing after him everywhere.

Harry told the Circle, they had to be mindful of their surroundings. He survived his duel against Voldemort because he took advantage of what was around him, and Voldemort was too overconfident in their fight, so he let their guard down.

Once a week, they would pull names out of a hat to see who they're dueling partner was to see how well they were progressing. Harry and Lily would be the judge. Generally, they would need a teacher to be a judge, but as this was a rebellious group, they couldn't get the teachers involved.

Hermione wasn't doing that well, as she a terrible duelist. Hermione started to frustrate in ways that it was beginning to become amusing. Hermione generally didn't like others telling her how to do things, so she kept her pride and refuse to seek help from Harry and Lily.

Harry and Lily already knew Hermione's problem. She stuck with one type of spell, and it gave away her entire dueling plan. Hermione was incapable of adapting to the situation. Everyone was on guard because of her extensive knowledge of spells, but once her spells were exposed, she was a sitting duck as she didn't use both offense and defense at the same time and instead focus on one or the other.

As such, Hermione was now facing an 0 – 4 record amongst the group. The only person who shared her record was Marietta Edgecombe, who didn't even take part in the duels.

Surprising, the person leading the duels was Neville, who currently was 4 – 0. Neville was showing signs of being an incredible duelist with keen insight on spells and counterspells.

Harry made sure to keep a record on all the duels, who their opponents were, how long the duel lasted.

Unlike tournament duels, the duels only ended when a person gave up or was unable to continue. Unless Harry and Lily ended the duel to prevent any permanent damage.

Harry did this after Hermione protested the first match against Neville and Zacharias Smith. Harry and Lily allowed it to continue even though Zacharias Smith was beaten and only ended it when Smith shouted he 'yield.'

After that, duel and everyone looking at Harry like he was a sadist. So Harry explains why he kept the duel going. Harry told everyone they had to get used to fighting even after their opponents were down. Harry warns them, even if their opponents, such as Death Eaters were on the ground, doesn't mean they will surrender or stop fighting. They needed to stay in the fight even if their opponents were taken down.

Lily began teaching the Circle healing spells, as healing was vital in staying alive. It would be even harder to keep someone alive if they were in the middle of a warzone. They also had to learn potions and keep potions on them at all times, given how often potions could end up saving their lives.

The Circle also began to spend more time in the library, much to Hermione's delight. Hermione had trouble hiding the fact that everyone was now in the library studying. No one would be around her, as Hermione tended to become even more difficult to deal with than usual.

Everyone was in there looking up spells and other dueling tactics to help improve their chances.

They had meetings almost every night, with many students doing their homework in large groups to get it done so they can continue learning new spells.

Another factor was the weather. The weather had been howling winds blowing at high speed, making it impossible to go outside. As such, no House Team was capable of going outside to train, and there were no Herbology classes or Care of Magical Creatures. Given the students a lot of free time.

Umbridge clearly wanted to know what Harry was up to, and even got a few Slytherin students attempting to follow Harry. Harry was several steps ahead of all the students. Even though he's never been caught, Harry has explored the castle and knew his way better than the Seventh Years. The only ones whose knowledge extended Harry's were the Weasley's Twins. As such, Harry was able to give the slip every time someone was following him, even Filch.

He kept the Marauder's Map and his Invisibility Cloak on him at all times. He used them a lot as well, wary of anyone who was around him and keeping to himself.

Fortunately for Harry, this wasn't unusual as he was well known for being alone and only spend time with Blaise, Daphne, and Tracy. No one else knew much about Harry as he mostly kept to himself.

In mid-October, the Weather finally started to show signs of dying down and much calmer. As such, every Quidditch team return to the skies in preparations for the Quidditch Season.

Ron Weasley, the new Gryffindor Keeper, was facing verbal attacks by the Slytherin's whom Gryffindor would be playing in the opening match. Ron has never had to deal with such hostile crowds daily. Lily never got harassed, given the fact the only time she did, she sent the Senior Students of Slytherin to Saint Mungo's for severe magical burns. Many of them were still in intensive care, given the damage they received.

After that incident, no one harasses Lily as they didn't want to be on the receiving end of her fire.

Ron didn't have a good reputation, and he was known for his tall tales on Harry Potter. There was still that incident two years ago when Ron was gleeful when Harry nearly died during his Quidditch Match when the Dementor's attacked the Hogwarts Stadium. His remarks caused mayhem to erupted in the middle of the Great Hall.

Ron was unable to handle the negative attention Slytherin was giving to him. Ron would try to shrink away and find someplace to hide. Many Slytherin's taunted by promising to have his bed ready in the Healer Wing.

The day finally came, and Harry sits at the Slytherin table, seeing every Slytherin were wearing the same badges pin to their robes.

'Weasley's Is Our King'

Harry did not know the meaning behind this, but he knew it wouldn't be good. Harry and his team ate a hearty breakfast, as the Quidditch team was trying to go over the plans for the game.

The Gryffindor Chasers and Beaters the Slytherin were familiar with, so they were talking about how to best respond to them. The trouble was Lily, as she was the new Gryffindor Captain and like Harry, was a Quidditch genius. Not only was she was a fantastic seeker, but she also had a sharp IQ to the game.

Harry leads his team down the pitch and enters the Slytherin dressing room. Harry puts on his Green Quidditch Robes, with the number Seven below his last name.

The mood in the Slytherin Locker Room was great, given the fact that they have defeated Gryffindor for nearly six years with a near-perfect record. The match against three ago didn't really go well because of the Chamber of Secrets. Two years ago, they had the incident with the Dementor's before the rematch was set for the finals, in which Gryffindor face a crushing defeat.

Everyone mounted their brooms and kicked off, heading towards the pitch where the Scarlet Lions were already flying around. Even with the mood in Slytherin was at an all-time high, Harry was nervous as this was the first time Lily was the Quidditch Captain and leading her team after Oliver Wood graduated.

Harry flies around as Slytherin cheers their undefeated Captain onwards. The Captain, who led to a House to a Perfect Record. There was a high expectation of a repeat and win back to back Finals.

Everyone in the Slytherin section was wearing green cloaks and cheering loudly. Several Slytheirn's even were waving banners that said 'Weasley Is Our King', causing Ron to have significant discomfort.

Everyone line up for the first match awaiting for the game to begin.

Harry and Lily flew forward as the entire stadium fell silent. Even if Harry and Lily were known to be friends, they were also fierce and competitive rivals. Quidditch also made them compete on an intense level.

Madam Hooch flies forward and looks at Harry and Lily, both glaring at one another.

"Now, I want a nice clean game," said Madam Hooch. "Captains, shake hands."

Harry and Lily grasp each other's hand, and a slight sizzling could be heard as smoke could be seen from their hands. Harry was attempting to freeze Lily's hand while Lily was trying to burn his hand. The whole stadium was silent as the two most fierce Captain in Hogwarts history were shaking hands.

The moment the two let go, there was a sigh of relief within the stadium.

Harry took his position as the center chaster as Lily flies upwards towards the back as the Seeker. Ron was by the goalposts, and he looks like he was having second thoughts about playing in an actually Quidditch team. Harry remembers Lily telling him about Ron going on and on about the Chudley Cannons, one of the worse Quidditch teams in Briton. Ron dreamed of restoring the Chudley Cannons to glory.

Harry smirks upon seeing Ron's discomfort, knowing this was going to be an easy game if Ron was as terrible as Harry suspected. It wasn't easy to be a Star Quidditch player.

Madam Hooch waves her wand upon the chest, causing the two Bludgers to shot out like rockets followed by the Golden Snitch that zips around the players before it disappears into the sky.

The Quaffle was launch into the air, and the game began.

Harry grabbed the Quaffle the fastest and was quickly weaving in and out of the Gryffindor players to attack their goal post at once. Before he could take off, he was suddenly thrown off-course when Lily had shot forward like a rocket herself and shoulder tackles Harry causing him to spin momentarily out of control.

"Foul!" Slytherin shouted in an uproar.

As Harry was attempting to regain control of his broom, he had dropped the Quaffle allowing Katie Bell to pick it up and toss it to Angelina Johnson. No Whistle had been blown as the move was perfectly legal.

Harry turns around and shots forward, chasing after Angelina Johnson, who was speeding towards the goal post. Dodging Bludgers and everyone else around her.

Harry finally catches up with Angelina Johnson. Angelina, knowing Harry was dangerous, quickly passes to Alicia Spinnet.

Blaise and Draco were all over Alicia in a heartbeat, knowing that Alicia was the second option behind Angelina Johnson among the chasers. Because of Draco and Blaise's quick attack caused Alicia to change her path, she fumbles with the Quaffle until Blaise steals the Quaffle and speeds down the pitch towards the Gryffindor Post.

Harry and Draco turn around and chase after Blaise to give him some support.

Ron didn't move from his post and instead looks upon the three Slytherin Chasers attacking him, and the Gryffindor Chasers was behind trying to catch up. Katie Bell tried to reach Blaise, but Harry kept shoulder tackling her away from Blaise.

The Slytherins in the stands started to sing.

"Weasley cannot save a thing,

He cannot block a single ring.

That's why Slytherin's all sing,

Weasley's our King!"

Ron clearly lost confidence upon hearing the song as Harry felt disgusted, filling his gut. This was an underhand tactic that wasn't necessary. Harry wasn't going to lash out though, he had no love for Ron Weasley.

Blaise heads towards the lower post, and just as he released the Quaffle, Ron attempted to meet him, but instead, he falls forward on his broom hanging on. Blaise was forced to change direction as Lily, who once again shot downwards like a rocket. Blaise had to change course to prevent himself from getting knock off broom; this caused him to miss his shot.

Slytherin groans in response to the missed goal.

Harry speeds forward and grabs the Quaffle and throws it towards Draco, who quickly tosses it into the center hoop in front of Ron. Draco started mock Ron with a few verses from Weasley is our King before he flies off.

Slytherin cheer upon hearing the gong signally that they had scored.

Ron attempted to climb back on his broom, but it was taking time as Slytherin was getting ready to defend, and Gryffindor was getting impatient.

Ron finally got back on his broom and rearranges his helmet, flushing as he does so. Ron grabs the Quaffle and tosses it to Angelina Johnson.

Ron's pass was terrible as the Quaffle instead bounces off the back of Angelina's head, causing Slytherin to quickly swarm over the Quaffle as Gryffindor attempts to grab the Quaffle.

Harry grabs the Quaffle as Slytherin began to sing louder, causing Ron to once again lose confidence within himself as Harry scores unchallenged.

Lee Jordan, who was doing color commentary, tried desperately to talk over the cheering, but Slytherin cheering grew louder, and Ron's performance grew even worse.

For the next twenty minutes of the game, Gryffindor was on the defensive. Trapped by their own goalpost and their keeper who struggle to even make a single save. Slytherin onslaught was so intense, Daphne Greengrass, the Slytherin Keeper, had flown off towards the Slytherin dugout and was drinking and eating while cheering her comrades own. Her broom was just floating, waiting to be mounted.

Throughout the game, it was hard to determine what was worse. Ron's Keeping abilities, or his passing skills. Several times, Ron threw the Quaffle straight into the arms of the Slytherin Chasers. Several passes were to Harry himself, causing them to score.

The Gryffindor Chasers could take it no longer and shouted at Ron to shape up and play correctly. Ron refused to look at anyone and was steaming red from frustration.

The scored was a hundred and twenty to nothing. Daphne was still in the dugout drinking Pumpkin Juice and cheering her male teammates on. Gryffindor feared they would get a clean sweep from their rivals. Many of them could barely watch as the Slytherin's continue to dominate the match.

Madam Hooch suddenly sounds her whistles. Everyone in the stadium, including the players on the field, thought Gryffindor had called a timeout. Professor McGonagall herself look somewhat relieved that a timeout was called.

"Gryffindor Wins!" shouted Madam Hooch.

The announcement stunned the audience. Looking at the score, it now read Slytherin 120 – Gryffindor 150.

Lily was flying around the stadium with the Snitch caught firmly in her hands.

It took a moment to realized that in their hour of desperation, Lily had saved Gryffindor from certain humanity by defeating Slytherin the only way she could. She caught the Golden Snitch.

Gryffindor cheered for their first defeat of Slytherin in six years!

Wham!

Lily had flown off her broom after getting hit in the head by Warrington with his Beaters Bat.

Gryffindor roared in anger as Warrington flew off before the Gryffindor team could surround him. It didn't take much to cause a brawl to erupt between these two houses.

Harry looks at Warrington, who quickly flies towards the locker room and ignores Madam Hooch blowing her whistle. Harry then looks up towards the stands where the administration and guest would generally be staying and sees Umbridge in her pink robes with that toad-like smile on her face.

Harry should have known she would do something behind the scenes to disrupt the Quidditch games. Umbridge was going to do something to get back at Lily for humiliating her and making her allow Quidditch to reform. Harry was going to get Umbridge back for this, as she crossed a line.

Harry lands on the ground near Draco as Lily was quickly surrounded by her teammates to explain what happen and to congratulate her on her catch and her victory over Slytherin. Harry watched and was thankful Lily wasn't hurt too bad from her fall. She only fell about ten feet. Still, he was worried. Or was it because of her insane healing ability that healed her wounds before she got back to her feet that allowed her to be alright?

Ron didn't join in on the Gryffindor celebration. Instead, he flies down and disappears into the Gryffindor locker room.

Draco spits on the ground in disgust, clearly unhappy that Slytherin had lost.

"Saved Weasley's neck, did you, Morris?" Draco sneered as Lily shakes hands with her teammates. "I've never seen a more pathetic Keeper. Then again, 'Weasley was born in a bin,' did you like my lyrics Morris?"

Lily ignores Draco as Gryffindor screamed itself horse. Blaise and Tracy lands beside Harry as Daphne walks over, unsure of how this defeated happen.

"We couldn't find anything to rhyme about 'fat and ugly' for his mother," Draco said louder so Morris could hear him. "or 'worthless and loser' for his father."

Fred and George, who were cheering and celebrating with Lily, heard what Draco had said and knew what he was referring to. They turned to face Draco and stood tall at the ready. All the signs pointed towards a fight about to erupt.

"Draco, shut up before you do something you'll regret," Daphne hissed, knowing the infamous lioness was mere feet from them.

All the girls were doing what they can to restrain Fred and George from attacking Draco Malfoy.

"You like the Weasley's don't you Morris," Draco shouted with a laugh. "they really are the worst. They live in a pigs dun and bathe in it, but that must be normal for you, Morris, isn't it, as I'm sure your mother had the same stench."

The line had finally been crossed.

One would have thought after years of Lily getting the best of Draco and burning him, he would have learned not to push her buttons around so much. Draco apparently doesn't learn, and now he was about to unleash a Dragon's wrath upon him.

The stadium had fallen silent, and the Gryffindor Quidditch team took a step back as Lily had become cold, quiet, and still. She didn't move, and she didn't say anything, but they knew her well enough to know she was about to erupt. They took several steps back. Even Fred and George knowing she was about to unleash hell itself.

Lily lifted her head, and her eyes were burning with a fierce orange glow. An orange sphere suddenly appeared around her, shielding her and giving off an intense heat.

Harry quickly cast an icy mist sphere to protect himself, as well as his friends from Lily's onslaught. Draco, who wasn't near Harry, wasn't inside and instead fell silent as Lily began to unleash her power.

Lily's power was nothing like her second and third years. Last year no one knew just how powerful Liy's fire had grown, but Harry knew. Blaise, Daphne, and Tracy were freezing from the misty dome that would protect them.

The ground suddenly started to split apart, erupted as if an earthquake had erupted. High intense lava flew upwards and started melting anything they came in contact with; flesh or wood.

The stadium itself, came under attack, as everyone was screaming from the intense inferno being unleashed before them. The Posts were already melting from the fierce heat Lily was giving off, and the stadium was having trouble holding together.

The teachers were shouting spells to prevent the fire from actually hurting anyone. Professor Flitwick was casting so many fire repellent charms and levitations charms to protect his students.

Other teachers were shouting fire cancelation spells, but they weren't strong to overcome Lily's power.

Draco himself found himself on an island where he was surrounded by lava, and he looked very pale as he realized he had no help or protection. His Nimbus Two Thousand and One had melted and were now a useless melted stick.

The fire grew more intense as Lily was clearly trying to destroy Draco.

A massive explosion of lava suddenly shoots upwards and quickly began to take the form of a dragon roaring loudly as Draco whimpers.

Everyone knew what was about to happen, and the teachers all shouted every cancelation spell they knew and protection spell to protect Draco. Their magic wasn't nearly as strong enough. Draco whimpers, praying to whatever deity out there to save him.

Nothing could save him, the dragon gave a loud roar and drives itself upon Draco who screams as the fire touched his body. Then there was silence as the fire continues to dive into Draco's body.

"Seperantes!" Professor Gorlosein shouted as she suddenly appeared in the sky. The intense fire that terrorized the Quidditch Stadium disappeared entirely. The ground look badly scarred from the fire as if there was a wildfire that raced through the area.

Harry dispels his sphere and looks at Draco.

His body had been badly burned. His skin was pure black, with smoke rising from his body. For a moment, Harry thought Draco was dead, but he cough and tries to breathe, but it was clear it was difficult as his lungs had to been filled with fire or just burned.

Professor Gorlosein lands on the ground softly and waves her wand over Draco's body.

Draco's body glowed a bit blue, but already there were signs he was healing. The damage was severe, and Professor Gorlosein's magic couldn't heal Draco instantly. Still, it gave Draco a chance to breathe and live again.

Teachers quickly had the students return to their dorms as Professor McGonagall took Lily with her to her office.

Harry knew Lily was in serious trouble this time, and she could be facing expulsion.

Harry marches back to the Slytherin Common Room with Blaise, Tracy, and Daphne in tow.

All three walked in silence, too shock and stunned at what they had witnessed. They knew Lily was gifted in fire magic, but after seeing that particular incident, they would never again piss Lily off so they wouldn't end up like Draco or worse.
