Magical Origins

Year 5: Ascendence

Harry and Lily didn't go to class again but had received a note from Professor Gorloisen telling her to meet her inside the Chamber of Secrets after the Winter Holidays begin, via Phoenix Feather; most likely courtesy of Professor Dumbledore Phoenix Fawkes.

The winter holidays were fast approaching, and that meant the Fifth Years were pressing their noses in tests. Ron Weasley was in trouble, so much he realized he wasn't going to pass his exams and started begging Hermione for help. Seamus also was in trouble, as were Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil. The two gossip queens of Gryffindor soon found themselves in trouble with the danger of expulsion looming over their heads.

Harry and Lily suddenly appeared back in classes, causing everyone to wonder where they've been hiding within the school. No one dared asked the two unwilling to risk Lily unleashing her wrath upon them so they wouldn't end up like Draco.

Dolores Umbridge heard Potter and Morris return to class and showed for 'inspection,' In truth, she was there to harass Potter and get something to have Lily expel after being embarrassed by her so many times and escaping punishment.

Harry and Lily ignore Umbridge and only focus on their tests, which of course, forbid anyone from talking or interrupting the class. Even Umbridge had to be quiet during the tests, as this was a critical moment for the Fifth Years.

Once in a while, Lily would cause the candlelight to ignite, causing Umbridge and unfortunately Malfoy to jump out of their seats and their skins. As Lily wasn't seen casting any magic, she could not be blamed. It still didn't stop Umbridge from biting down on her thumb as if thinking of some plot to humiliate Lily.

Harry only shook his head in amusement. Lily had thick skin, and it was hard to get her to do what you wanted, even if its what she would typically do. Lily understood how people set traps and knew how to make them backfire in people's faces.

The worse part for Harry and Lily was they had to drink Draught of Discord. As their Ascendence was drawing ever closer, they were having surges of magic erupting around them. The Draught of Moonlight would deplete their magic so they wouldn't have any outbursts with their magic, for a time.

The winter holidays were soon going to begin. Many students were leaving, mostly to get away from Umbridge, who was a nightmare. Everyone wanted to get away from Umbridge as she was difficult to be around.

Two nights before they would have been leaving for the Holidays, the last meeting for the Circle was underway as everyone had gathered to learn their final lesson before they went on Holidays.

Harry stood before the Salazar statue as everyone began to arrive.

Once everyone arrived, Harry stood up and ready.

"As today is the last day for the holidays, there is no point in learning anything new," Harry begins in a slow but loud voice.

"We're not learning anything new?!" Zacharias Smith says in a loud voice. "If I had known that, I wouldn't have come."

Harry bluntly ignores Smith, knowing that Smith did this out of petty jealousy.

"I've decided to make a fun game for you all base on a muggle's game of 'Capture the Flag,'" Harry says. Many muggles students look at Harry in excitement while those who grew in the magical world looks at Harry in confusion. "Capture the Flag is precisely as it sounds, you have to capture a Flag. There will be two teams, and two matches per round. One group will be defenders, while the others will be attackers. Defenders are to defend the flag from the attackers and survive until the allotted time limit. Attackers' goal and objective is to capture the flag and return it to your base."

"Where's the base and the flag going to be located at?" asks Ernie.

"The flag will be by the large Slytherin statue," says Lily. "the base will be by the main entrance to this chamber. While we're on the subject, Defenders are not allowed to leave the checkpoints."

"What checkpoints?" Smith demands at once.

"It's similar to the age line Dumbledore drew up last year around the Goblet of Fire," says Harry. "Defender's cannot pass this line."

"Where's the penalty area?" asks Justin Finch-Fletchly.

"Behind us on the balcony," says Lily pointing towards the balcony. "For those of you don't know, the penalty area is an area where you reside during the current match when you step out of bounds or are eliminated."

Harry waves his wand, conjuring a large bucket with sticks hanging out.

Everyone knew the sticks would determine the team they would be on, so they all chose their fates sort of speak.

Harry stuck with the classic red vs. blue.

Harry and Lily watch as both teams form their strategies before they began the game. The game was clearly fun that brighten their spirits up before the holidays. Umbridge has been on the warpath because she's seen countless students 'happy' and clearly wanted to find some way to take away their happiness.

Fred and George, ever so mischievous and opportunist, left Umbridge something to freak out about along with Filch.

Filch had entered his office to see several beloved sweets left wrap in pink. Filch, being gullible, believed Umbridge sent the gifts as a thank you for his efforts.

Filch wasn't seen for a few days reportedly as he couldn't get off the toilet seat in his bathroom as he couldn't stop crapping from his upset stomach.

Umbridge herself came under attack by Fred and George, who transfigure her office into a swamp. Umbridge was so furious at the sight of her office she demanded the Hogwarts Professors remove the swamp but denies doing so, stating it wasn't their place to clean her office. So Umbridge contacts the Accidental Magical Damage Control for help, but even they were stump on the appearance of the swamp.

With Filch and Umbridge currently unable to do anything given they were dealing with their own issues, the students could breathe a sigh relief before they left for the Holidays.

Two nights before the Winter holidays began, Harry and Lily were holding their last Circle meaning. Smith, as usual, tried to belittle Harry and his teaching method when Harry announce he wasn't going to teach them anything new. Harry instead told them

Harry didn't feel like himself, as he had this surge of power radiating inside of him and wanting to burst outwards. He knew his 'normal' Ascendance would be on the Winter Solistice.

Professor Gorloisen was going to speed up their Ascendence before the Winter Holidays, but the process could kill them. Not all Elemental's survived their Ascendence. The power that would generate was unlike anything they've ever experience.

Once they finished their exams, Harry and Lily quickly left before Umbridge could come up with some excuse to punish them and provoke them into getting expelled.

Harry and Lily quickly enter the Chambers of Secrets, where they could see a wind clone of Professor Gorloisen casting runes on the grounds.

"You two ready?" says Professor Gorloisen.

"Professor," says Harry. "I'm confused, why is this important?"

Harry wasn't usually one who asked questions, but even he was confused about why all this was necessary.

"The Ascendance is going to happen regardless if you want it to or not," says Professor Gorloisen. "this is dangerous progress as your powers will be fully unleashed. Over the four years at this school, you've been learning to control your elemental powers. Now your powers are about to reach dangerous heights. The surge of power swelling within is nothing compare to what you have been using. I can only warn you so much, but you must bring that power under yours to control."

Harry and Lily nod their head and as they stood within the circle. Neither of them truly knew what to expect, as they are no records of any type of Ascendence.

"I will warn you," says Professor Gorloisen. "the power you will feel will be nothing like you've handled before. You must learn to control that power within you."

Harry and Lily step within their respective circles as the circle lights with blue and orange magic.

Harry and Lily wait patiently as the clock begins to tick closer to midnight. Veronica watches the time anxiety as midnight soon approaches.

The moment midnight arrives, the first bell struck the start of a new day signally.

Harry and Lily found themselves rising in the air as power began to surge inside of them uncontrollably.

Water, Ice, Fire, Lava began to erupt all around them, both out of control yet in perfect harmony.

Harry and Lily couldn't hold it back, and cry out throughout the chamber as the power continues to surge within them and escape into the Chamber of Secrets.

Lightning sparks as waves of energy escape destroying the many statues within the chamber.

"The Ascendance has begun, now you must tame – the elements within," Veronica Gorloisen whispers upon the two.

Harry POV

Harry finds himself on a frozen plain. Ice and snow stretch from horizon to horizon. Harry looks around and found himself staring at nothing but pure whiteness.

"So," says a booming voice. "the time has come."

Harry turns around to see an Asian blue dragon staring at him from the sky.

"Who are you?" Harry asks at once.

The dragon disappears into a wind of snow before reappearing before Harry as a young woman wearing a blue mandarin dress. Black hair with blue eyes, she is a beauty, and Harry found himself attracted to her, as well as a strong bond.

"You know full well who I am," says the woman. "I've always been at your side. If you want my power, you must call out my name. Or I will kill you."

"You would kill me?" Harry says in shock.

The woman didn't say anything as shes blasts, Harry of his feet, as he lands on the ice.

Harry groans as he tries to get back up and conjures an ice shield seeing shards of ice heading his way. Only to his horror and dismay, he could no longer have his water elemental abilities.

Harry didn't have a wand or his elemental powers. Instead, he relies on his Quidditch reflexes and rolls out of the way of the ice shards.

The woman appears in front of him as she hits him in the chest once again, sending Harry flying across the tundra.

Harry groans as lands on the ice and tries to get up.

Lily's POV

Lily found herself on an island with lava all around her. For the first time since her Fire Elemental powers manifest, she could feel the heat of the lava all around her, and she felt terrified for the first time in years.

"The day has come," says a voice above her.

Lily looks up and sees a phoenix flapping its wings in bright blazing light. Only this phoenix wasn't as small as Fawkes, it was massive. The size of a Thunderbird.

"Where am I?" Lily shouts upon the phoenix. "and who are you?"

"Do not ask questions you already know," says the phoenix. The phoenix disappears into a burst of fire before the fire appears behind her. Lily turns around to see a young man with short black hair and yellow eyes looking at her. "You know why you are here. If you can't tame the beast within yourself, I will kill you."

"You cannot be – "

Lily didn't get to finish her sentence before the phoenix-man slams his palm into her chest, sending her flying across the lava.

Lily lands on the ground, and yelps as the fire sting her hands before she turns to see the phoenix-man standing before her again. Lily looks for her wand but couldn't find it anywhere on her.

Lily attempts to conjure her fire shield, but nothing happens. The phoenix-man lets out a stream of fire from his hands causing Lily to roll out of harm way before the fire roasts her.

Now it was Lily on the receiving end of being burn alive.

Chamber of Secrets

Veronica Gorloisen stands watching the two scream as the Ascendence begins to erupt around them. The two need to tame the beasts within and call out their names to quell the storm within.

"Fate can be a very cruel thing," Veronica says as she looks upwards. "Their names, remember the day when you awoke with their blessing."

Harry's POV

Harry dodges the strike once again as the Dragon-Lady holds a spear in her hands, sending a wave of ice on the ground.

"Is running all you can do?" she asks as she spins her spear and turns to face him.

Harry grins his teeth, unsure of his options. He couldn't use his elemental powers, and his magic wasn't working wherever he is at. The dragon-lady is more powerful than even Dumbledore, and that is saying something.

Her name, she wants him to call out her name, but nothing in Harry's memory did he recall hearing her name.

"I am a Dragon," she says to Harry. "many serpents wish to acquire my power, but they can only slither on the ground while I rule the heavens. I am the night, and through the darkness, I am wise. I am patient, and I am fierce."

Harry looks at her and backs away, watching for her next strike.

She suddenly appears in front of him before Harry could only blink.

"Running will only get you so far," she says before kicking Harry in the chest.

Harry crashes into the ground once more before he sits upright and wipes the blood from his mouth.

'Something isn't right,' Harry thinks carefully upon looking at the Dragon-Lady. 'She could easily obliterate me within a split second if she wanted to. Her attacks are powerful, but she avoids lethal blows. She stripped me of my powers, but she allows me to run.'

"What is it that you seek?" Harry asks her.

She looks at him, with no emotion on her face or in her eyes. Truly emotionless.

"I don't have to tell you," she says as she points her spear at Harry, causing dozen of ice daggers to fly at him. Harry brings his arms up to shield his chest and face as the ice daggers cut his arms and legs.

Harry falls on one knee as he looks at her.

Harry didn't know how to escape or how to beat her. He could only hope to stall for time, but that wasn't going to work either. As each second ticks by, Harry could feel himself get weaker. Harry needs to do something and fast. He needed –

"Fire," Harry mutters to himself. The Dragon-Lady eyes twitch before she narrows as she looks at him.

Lily is nearby. Wherever their minds were located, their bodies were right next to each other. Harry couldn't tap into his magic, but maybe he could tap into Lily's magic.

Harry begins to focus as he looks at the Dragon-Lady.

'Do you want power?' asks the Dragon to a ten-year-old Harry inside his cupboard.

Ten-year-old Harry looks at the ghostly image of a dragon looking at him inside his cupboard.

"I don't want power," ten-year-old Harry replies. "I want to have a family and find happiness."

"To find happiness, you need patience, to have family, you need wisdom," says the dragon. "to protect your happiness and family, you need power. Wisdom and Patience will make you use that power wisely."

"Why me?" asks ten-year-old Harry.

"Do you want my gift or not?" asks the Dragon.

"If it grants my wish, then yes," says ten-year-old Harry.

"Very well," says the Dragon. "remember my name, for I shall appear to you once more."

"Kiyo," Harry mutters as he recalls the memory.

The Dragon-Lady looks at him in surprise. Then she smiles.

"You finally remember," says Kiyo. She lowers her spear as she looks at Harry.

"Why did you try to kill me?" asks Harry standing up.

"To see who you are," says Kiyo. "you were blessed with my powers, but did you remain true to the goals you set out for yourself?"

Harry pauses as he thinks about this, he had two beautiful children with Artemis, and he is loved by a family who cares who he is, not what he is and what he has. Even though he acquires what he desires, he knew something was missing.

"How do I leave?" asks Harry.

Kiyo looks at him.

"This is your world, not mine," Kiyo says, surprising Harry. "Every choice you've made, every action you have taken has resulted in creating this terrain. You are strong, powerful, intelligent, and wise, but you have kept yourself isolated from others by not letting them see who you really are, and for that reason – you will end up alone."

Harry knew this is true, even if he spent time with others, he didn't let anyone inside in fear of getting hurt. He didn't trust anyone as he tends to close his heart, afraid of others hurting him as his relatives before him.

"What should I do?" Harry asks the blue dragon.

"A Dragon is powerful and wise," says Kiyo. "solitude is not our ways. Even if we're alone, we gather with others for strength and comfort. No dragon is invincible, no matter how powerful we are. You must learn to trust others as much as you trust the sound of your own heart."

Lily POV

Lily jumps backward as the man swings his burning daggers as the rock she was standing on melts immediately upon impact. Lily wasn't afraid of the man, but his attacks were insane. Never before has Lily been on the defensive so intensely.

No matter how much Lily avoids his attacks, he never aimed to kill, despite how devastating they appeared.

Lily casts a deflection as she jumps away from the man before landing on the rock and looks at him. He looks at her without a care in a world.

"You're slowing down," says the man.

'He's right, I'm getting tired,' Lily thought as she eyes the situation. Sweat pours down her face and body, making it difficult to breathe in the heated air.

"You don't understand the true purpose of fire," says the man. "that is why you are unworthy of my power."

Lily teleports away as the rock she was on explodes with force.

'I don't get it,' Lily thinks as she eyes the man before her. 'He could, at any time, kill me when he wants. He's stronger, faster, and far more powerful than I am, yet he hesitates, why?'

"You never will understand the true power of the fire, will you young one?" says the phoenix. He vanishes only to reappear before Lily as he stabs her straight in the stomach with his long knife.

Lily stumbles backward from the blade in her stomach. There was no blood, but an insane burning sensation building up inside of her. The fire begins to eat away at her flesh, slowly disintegrating her, and Lily knew she was dying.

'Why is the fire killing me? I thought I was fire? Isn't fire also suppose to be a bringer of life?'

Lily's eyes begin to close as the fire slowly begins to turn her body into crispy ash.

Lily grabs the blade with what remains of her hand and pulls the knife out of her stomach as she returns to normal. Lily stood there before she turns to look at the phoenix.

"You finally understand," says the phoenix. "you have been using fire for destruction. Destruction without purpose isn't what fire should be used as. We cause destruction to support life. Accept the fire within you, to heal others as you destroy your enemies."

"Who are you?" Lily asks as she looks at the man.

"You already know my name," says the phoenix as he turns into a phoenix and takes flight.

Lily watches the phoenix take flight and leave Lily behind.

"Ho-oh, the Lord of the Skies," Lily whispers as she watches the phoenix disappears.

Chamber of Secrets

The amount of power surging from the two gifted elementals finally came to an end as Lily and Harry fall towards their knees, gasping for breath.

They didn't say anything as the power surge dies as they look down on the ground as if they had ran a marathon.
