Chapter 6: The Scientist & The Prince
Being together with someone for years, going through death and life situations, and all that didn't mean she would marry that person. Bulma Brief learnt it the hardest way when she ended her relationship with her highschool sweetheart once and for all. For the umpteenth time, Yamcha broke her trust again. When she confronted him about him, he was throwing it again at her instead of admitting his mistake.
It was the fact that she was Bulma Brief—the most beautiful genius scientist in the Western City, the daughter of the richest man on Earth, the fact that she was so much more than him that put the pressure on his shoulders.
The breakup crushed her heart so much that she went to the lab, wailing by herself. For the first time ever, Bulma looked around the lab to realise how she had everything…
But one.
No one to fill that emptiness in her heart.
Until Vegeta stormed into the lab, breaking the silence complaining about the gravity machine kept breaking and accused her of making a bad quality machine. The string of her patience snapped the moment he called her stupid woman. How could he say that after staying in her house for free? Nobody but Goku dared to challenge Vegeta, but now it wasn't only Goku.
She couldn't even make out what she said to him anymore due to the adrenaline rush, but she definitely couldn't forget Vegeta's expression when she lurched towards him, pushing him all the way to the corner. She grabbed his shirt as she shouted, then he held her wrists in the process. The next thing she knew, she was already making out with him and it didn't stop there.
The fate of their relationship, however, was going to be revealed by the pregnancy test she held with both of her shaking hands.
It was positive.
"Oh, Shen Long… what to do?" she said while placing her palm over her forehead, her other hand propped on the sink.
Bulma's heart was beating against the bars of her heart with the strength she never experienced before. She convinced herself before that she only had a big appetite recently, until she realised that she didn't have her period for a month. Though her belly still looked flat at a glance, Bulma could feel a slight bump had replaced her once flat skin. Lying inside it was the fruit of her relationship with Vegeta. Bulma sighed and took another pregnancy test she bought. They said the result was ninety-eight percent accurate, meaning that they still had two-percent of inaccuracy so she might have belonged to the two-percent.
But eight tests later, the result remained positive—much to her dismay. She was now wondering whether or not she should tell Vegeta about it because he was the father of her child and he had every right to know.
"But how!?" she snarled while clenching her hair in desperation.
Bulma didn't hate the fact that she was going to be a mother but what bothered her the most was how Vegeta would take the news. Also, what if her baby inherited their father's evil personality? She shuddered at the thought, quickly slapped both of her cheeks with her palms.
"No… My baby won't be like him…" she said with determination. She wouldn't let her baby become a bad guy like the way Vegeta was in the past. Suddenly, her mind wandered into the future boy she met the other day—a strong, handsome, and kind boy that brought an important message from the future.
Talking about the future, Bulma wondered if it was possible to create something to pass through the time dimension. Whoever created such an amazing machine must be really genius. She wondered if she was able to do something that seemed against the law of nature. But it would be convenient if they could go to the past to change the future. They could solve many problems and her current problem wasn't an exception.
"It must be really nice if you grow up like that future boy, you know…" Bulma rubbed her belly with a smile. It was strange that she had harboured an indescribable love towards the seed inside her. Suddenly, Bulma wondered what was the feeling she had for the boy from the future. It wasn't anything romantic, but she didn't understand why she felt the way she felt towards the baby in her belly when she met the future boy. She did mention about the future boy's resemblance with Vegeta and Vegeta's son would undoubtedly look like the future boy. She paused for a moment when she thought of the possibility that the future boy was hers.
She chuckled to herself. "No way… What am I thinking?" And with that, she carefully packed her test inside the unused paper and threw it into the wastebasket so nobody would find out. Her eyebrows creased into a deep frown when she noticed the growing pimples all around her face.
Shit! She didn't even realise when the pregnancy hormone changed her once flawless feature. However, Bulma would face the changes as if nothing happened. She would emerge from the bathroom as if nothing happened. However, she never expected that someone had been waiting outside the bathroom.
"Oh, err… Hi, Vegeta! It's been a long time isn't it?" she blurted, losing her cool upon the sight of him. He was half-naked, glistening in sweat, and only donned his short pants.
"What are you talking about, Woman? We just met this morning." His thick eyebrows incredulously mashed together.
"Oh, yeah… right! I-I just wanted to tell you that I've finished your training capsule!" Bulma huffed when Vegeta raised his eyebrows and nodded. She thanked her brilliant mind for giving her the right topic to get rid of the awkwardness between them.
"That's about the time, woman. I'm tired of waiting," he coolly said while walking past her.
"Make sure you don't blow it up again this time, you hear me?" she threatened.
"Hmph."
Bulma stuck her tongue out as the Saiyan prince walked away from him. Vegeta wasn't a man of words. She had known him for two years and it was enough for her to know that it was his way of saying either 'yes' or 'thank you'. Within those two years, never expected that she would know him more than she should. She was now able to read him what he wanted solely from his gestures alone. His back was getting smaller in her vision that she couldn't tear her eyes away from him, tearing apart between telling him or not.
"Do you have anything you want to say, Woman?"
Bulma widened her eyes when he suddenly stopped twenty steps away from her. Droplets of sweat started to roll on the back of her head when he slowly turned his head to her.
"Uh…" As much as she wanted to tell him, she wasn't prepared for this. She rolled her eyes and finally said, "I-I have to pick up my laundry. S-see ya!"
"It's been raining since morning and you didn't do any laundry today."
Shit! Bulma silently cursed, glancing at the window and saw the heavy rain outside. She was so distracted with her problem that she didn't even notice the weather. The worst thing was Vegeta narrowed his eyes on her and now turned his body so he faced her.
"You're hiding something from me, woman…" he dangerously said.
"Of course I hide nothing from you!" she quickly answered, but it might be too quick to her liking. "A-anyway, I have to go now so see you later, okay? Tha-tha!" Bulma didn't waste a breath staying under Vegeta's gaze and ran as fast as she could without looking back.
Vegeta scoffed as he saw Bulma's figure getting smaller in his vision. "What an annoying woman…"
It shouldn't be his problem. But ever since they shared their bed, the Saiyan prince couldn't deny that whatever bothered her bothered him too. They would share a thing or two as they cuddled but she seemed to be more quiet recently.
After changing into his training gear, Vegeta tried out the newly built training capsule. Though he never verbally admitted it, saying the opposite even, Bulma always exceeded his expectations—both in brain and in bed. Ever since he became a man with no planet to go home, he had owed her a lot. Despite the fact that he used to be a threat to their home planet, Bulma still welcomed him into her house with open arms. Indeed, he was sometimes irritated by how the family so casually asked a Saiyan prince carrying their shopping bags and feeding the cats.
But Vegeta still did it without any objection.
Hours later, he got out from the training capsule. While wiping his sweat with the towel, he spotted Bulma sitting in the garden while eating the most disgusting meal combination he ever saw—teriyaki, rice, and banana altogether—like it was the most delicious meal she ever ate. He cringed with disgust and shook his head. Just yesterday, she ate rice with peanut butter, then had an ice cream with tomato as her dessert. The disastrous appetite made him wonder if something had happened to her, or to her brain.
Taking a deep breath, he garnered all it took to push the thought about her away. He input the gravity pressure he used to train in and was about to press 'proceed' until his mind strayed to Goku—to the immense Ki he had when he turned into the legendary Super Saiyan form. Gritting his teeth, he increased the number thirty folds and went into the training room.
How could a low-class warrior like Goku surpass him?
Where did he get that kind of strength?
Was it the family he wanted to protect?
When he walked down the stairs, he spotted Bulma having tea time with her parents. There was a moment when he thought that having something like a family wouldn't be a bad idea since he didn't remember having one of his own. But in war, having one was troublesome. Especially since there was an upcoming battle. That was if the teenagers from the future were right about the future threat from Red Ribbon.
However, what bothered Vegeta the most wasn't about the warning—but more about the identities of the Saiyan teenagers that managed to master Super Saiyan form. There was something about the girl's Ki that was similar to Goku that he somewhat had an idea that they were related but he was more curious about the boy who kept looking at him. Indeed, he scolded the boy whenever he was looking at him but he didn't want to admit that he was doing the same thing to the boy himself.
Vegeta couldn't translate what he felt about the boy. There was something magnetic about the boy's Ki when he unleashed his form, beating Frieza—the monster that wiped the Saiyan people, so easily. He wondered if, like Goku, there was another Saiyan survivor who settled on Earth and had a family just like Goku.
The thought drifted his mind to Goku's half-breed son that turned out to be potentially able to surpass even his father, him no exception. If he had a son, would he be able to be as strong?
What if he settled down on Earth and had a family like Goku?
"Tch! Such a weak thought!" he snarled as he punched the air numerous times.
AN: So that's how Mummy Bulma discovered her pregnancy while Daddy Vegeta, though feeling suspicious of all the changes she has during her pregnancy remains oblivious about him becoming a father.
