Chapter 8: The Big News

Chichi was very mad when he arrived home but fortunately, she left it like that when he pulled her into his embrace. Training didn't make him miss his home that much. However, the moment he felt his wife within his arms, he realised how much he missed the woman that made his house a home.

She would continue her long boring harangue about how he left her raising Gohan alone for years, but he didn't mind—he deserved it. The thought about how she was going to give him a baby girl was too overwhelming that Goku couldn't even comprehend her scorn. When she was done, he would hug her and apologised. Chichi would tell him how much she missed him and he would respond the same thing.

They missed each other so much that they spent their nights catching up on a lot of things.

However, no matter how sweet Chichi could be sometimes, she was very annoying when she was in her 'eastern mother' mode and pressing how Gohan's education was much more important than anything in the world. She didn't even care about the world's peace. Goku laughed and lightly patted her, telling her that she was joking but he accidentally knocked her several yards away because he had forgotten how he had grown much stronger than before. Fortunately, at the end of their argument, Chichi accepted his request to train Gohan for four years as long as he would let Gohan back to his studies after everything was over.

Over—if that word truly existed.

Time flew so fast that three years had passed since he came back to the Earth. Sitting in front of his house, accompanied by his father-in-law, Gokuwas filling each other the stories they had missed with Ox King.

"To think that we're not alone in this universe," Ox King shook his head, "I didn't believe it before I met you, Goku. In fact, I'm very surprised to learn that you came from another planet." He laughed while slapping his right knee in the process.

"I couldn't believe it myself, Otou-san. At least not before I met King Piccolo and later with Raditz," Goku said before sipping his tea. "Anyway, how was life while I was gone?"

"Same as usual. Me—either going to the farm or looking after the castle while Chichi was doing house chores. And Gohan, he was studying as usual. I insisted on doing training once in a while to make sure his body doesn't forget though even though I have to argue with Chichi about that."

Goku chuckled. "Chichi is very strict about his education after all."

Ox King grinned at this. "Well, I used to think that way too, Goku. But you know—something actually happened while you were gone."

"What was it?" he asked.

"Chichi used to hire a tutor for Gohan. What was his name again, eh? Hmm… Shu-san if I'm not wrong." He rubbed his chin with his fat finger.

"So… what about this tutor?"

"He appeared to whip Gohan while Chichi wasn't looking. Anything Gohan did, he was always wrong and repeatedly punished him for no reason at all."

"What?!" Goku frowned as his anger rose within his chest. Neither he nor Chichi ever hit Gohan, unless when they were training.

"He kept yelling Gohan, even calling you names, saying that you're nothing but a brainless brute. Gohan was, of course, enraged by this. He defended you but the scumbag told Chichi his end of the story and made Gohan the bad guy instead."

Knowing Chichi, he was certain that she would never let anything bad happened to Gohan, no matter how Gohan was much stronger than her. Goku inhaled a deep breath to suppress his emotion, then exhaled. "Then, what happened next?"

"Well, Chichi still chastised Gohan at first. The scumbag kept telling Chichi that Gohan was growing up like this was all because of your 'bad influence'. He also said that you were actually abandoned them, that you're worthless, and even had the guts to whipped Gohan across his face, hard enough to injure his." His fingers measured the size of Gohan's injury.

"He did that in front of Chichi?" Somehow, Goku couldn't wait to hear what happened next.

Ox King winked. "You're going to hear the best part. My daughter threw him out of the house. She even chased him away with my spear, threatening him to never ever come back. It was funny and so satisfying!" He burst into laughter.

Goku couldn't hold back his laughter as well. "I know it. No matter how strict she is, Gohan is still her number one."

"I'm pretty sure that wasn't the only reason she was mad. She was furious because he called you bad names," Ox King said. "She was defending your honour—and that was running in our family actually. My wife was getting pretty mad when people mocked me for my body size as well."

"My honour, huh?" Goku smiled at Ox King, then glanced at his wife, who was pouring the soup she cooked into a bowl. He lovingly gazed at her frame as she walked back and forth in the kitchen. "I think I can get why you're still missing Okaa-san if she looked and behaved like Chichi."

Ox King smiled at this. "Indeed."

The dinner went peacefully that night. Goku, like every other meal times, wolfed everything down like he never ate his whole life. He had been into three planets but none of them could match Chichi's cooking.

"I'm so full now! Thank you so much for the food, Chichi!" He contently smiled while rubbing his bloated stomach.

"You're lucky that I, of all people, marry you, Goku-sa! I wonder if there are any women out there that can cope up with your monstrous appetite," she sulked.

"Yeah, I'm lucky." He locked his gaze with Chichi, who suddenly turned into the shade of magenta. It was the moment when he finally took a good look at his wife and realised that her face was slightly chubbier than she used to be.

But his trail of thought was disturbed by Chichi's clearing her throat. She looked at him first, then to her father, before Gohan. "I… have an announcement."

Goku quickly straightened his sitting position and leaned closer to her, so did Ox King who sat across her. Gohan confusedly looking at his parents, looking slightly tensed.

"What is it, Chichi?" Goku asked. Instead of answering his question, Chichi turned to Gohan, taking a lavender coloured envelope from her pocket and handed it to Gohan.

"W-what is this, Okaa-san?" he asked.

"Open it, Son," she said.

Gohan groggily glanced at Goku and Ox King who stared intently at him, hinting that they wanted him to quickly open the letter. Gohan, whose hands were shaking because of the intense eyes, gulped when he saw a white card bulging inside it. He widened his eyes when he saw a colourful baby image on the cover, then opened it so he could read the content aloud.

"H-hello, Onii-chan… (Goku grinned at this) I'm s-so happy to tell you that… I'm going to see you in… seven months. Please take care of our mother while we're on our way to see… you?"Gohan trailed off as he looked up to his mother, as if he was silently asking if the news was real.

Chichi chuckled while nodding in response. It took Ox King a while until he loudly announced, "I'm going to be a grandfather again!"

"A-are you really pregnant? Is this real?" Gohan asked again.

"Yes, Son." She took Gohan's hands and placed it on her belly. "You're not going to be an only child anymore."

Gohan's lips trembled at first before placing his forehead on her belly. "I'm going to be a brother… A brother…" he repeated.

Chichi covered her lips at first to stifle back her desire to cry at Gohan's reaction but she decided that she wouldn't hold back at that moment. She lovingly caressed Gohan's hair not only to soothe Gohan but for herself as well. Goku kissed Chichi's forehead before placing his arms around his little family—his growing little family. How he hoped he would always keep them safe within his arms forever.

"That's wonderful news, Chichi… I can't wait to meet our baby." He wiped Chichi's tears with his thumb.

"Goku-sa…" Chichi held his hand and rubbed her cheek against his rough palm. "Me too…"

Later that night, Goku went back to his room to find Chichi sleeping with her arm over her belly. Gohan, who was sleeping on her right side, also had his hand over her belly as if the soon-to-be older brother wanted to protect his little sibling. The sight instantly pulled a smile over Goku's face. He snuggled beside Chichi and placed his hand over Chichi's and Gohan's.

"I'll see you soon, my little bird…"
