Year 6: Sins of Past
Harry's week with the girls has been hectic. With Astoria now in the mix, even though she swore she would not leave Draco, Harry's had few moments of downtime.
Harry eventually found Nott wandering around alone and managed to kill him without drawing any suspicions.
Harry hid Nott's body in Professor Alfred Sterling… the Ghoul Studies Teacher, closet.
Harry sent an anonymous tip to the Aurors that Professor Sterling had been seen talking to Nott before his disappearance.
Professor Sterling's office had been searched where they found Nott's dead body.
Daphne had been kind enough to help with Millicent Bulstrode.
Daphne uses Harry's invisibility cloak to slip some poison into her mead.
Millicent Bulstrode died, assuming someone from her family or on the outside had sent the mead to kill her.
That only left Draco Malfoy, and the benefactor Sterling was in contact with on the outside.
It's Saturday, and Harry is heading toward Professor Dumbledore's office.
"Mr. Potter," says a voice.
Harry turns and sees a very strange witch walking toward him.
"Professor Sybill Trelawney, I'm the Divination Professor. The signs said I would meet someone interesting if I walked this path," says Professor Trelawney.
Harry found Professor Trelawney strange.
"Yes, I know I can be perceived as strange, Mr. Potter. I understand you're no stranger to strange things," says Professor Trelawney.
Harry says nothing, wondering if she read his mind or could actually see into the future.
"Professor Dumbledore isn't very fond of Divination. He believes it's a bunch of hocus pocus muggle nonsense. So I was very surprised when he hired me. I remember that day very clearly. I met him in the Hogs Head and tried to make my case on why I should teach Divination," began Professor Trelawney.
Harry already knew what had happened. This is where she made the prophecy that foretold how he would defeat the Dark Lord.
"As Professor Dumbledore was about to leave, we were so rudely interrupted by Professor Snape!"
"What?" Harry shouts in shock.
"Yes. Apparently, he was looking for work. There was a bit of an argument before Dumbledore offered me a temporary position. I've been here for nearly seventeen years now," says Professor Trelawney.
Harry stops in place and takes this information in.
Snape.
Snape overheard the prophecy and told Voldemort.
Snape is the reason his parents are dead.
Dumbledore knew.
Dumbledore knew and still hired the bastard.
Worse… he never told Harry that it was Snape that was responsible.
"Mr. Potter?" Professor Trelawney asks nervously.
Harry breaks off and heads immediately towards Dumbledore's office.
Rage boiled over him. All he could think about was his parents.
If Snape hadn't heard. If Snape hadn't told.
He could have a life with his parents.
Harry bursts through Professor Dumbledore's office before Harry even knew he'd arrived.
"You never told me it was Snape!" shouts Harry.
Dumbledore looks at Harry in surprise at his sudden outburst.
"Harry, what are…."
Harry immediately cuts him off.
"Snape told Voldemort! Snape is the reason my parents are dead! You still hired him even when you knew what he did!"
"Harry, I need you to calm down…."
Harry fires a spell at Dumbledore at lightning speed.
Anger, frustrations. Feelings Harry has kept bottled up for years start emerging within him.
Dumbledore responds quickly as he fires his own spell at Harry, trying to get him to stop.
Dumbledore realizes that Harry is too pissed off. He won't calm down with a few words.
The two wizards began throwing spells at one another at point-blank range.
All over the castle, people could feel the surge of magical power as the feeling of shockwaves could be felt.
Everyone is sitting for dinner and is wondering who is fighting.
Someone comes crashing through the door and crashing into the Ravenclaw table.
Harry quickly flips up and fires a spell at Dumbledore, who arrived.
Dumbledore tries to counter as he fires his own spell at Harry.
As Harry and Dumbledore began dueling in the Great Hall, students and teachers quickly backed away.
Many try to escape the fire line as Harry begins an unbelievable onslaught against Albus Dumbledore.
Colin Creevey raises his camera and takes a picture.
Harry and Dumbledore circle one another, firing spells of unbelievable power.
The windows surrounding the Great Hall exploded from the magical pressure as the candle was blasted apart.
They both were casting powerful spells that unleashed numerous magical shockwaves within the Great Hall. As such, the Great Hall began to suffer damage.
Harry stands with several giant snowflakes around him. Dumbledore's spells were absorbed by his ice shields, protecting him from harm.
Harry fires spell upon spell upon Dumbledore, trying to bring him to his knees.
Harry could only think about all the misery he had to suffer.
Harry begins pushing Dumbledore harder and faster. Unleashing all the magical power he had upon the Headmaster.
"Can't you stop them?!" Hermione says in shock as Lily watches on.
Lily stands completely still, unfazed by the magical shockwaves.
'Harry's pissed. What pissed him off so much he's attacking Dumbledore?'
Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick try to cast more defensive spells to protect the students.
This was not a good sign to see two wizards who were supposed to fight against the Dark Lord fighting each other.
Harry fires a powerful curse at Dumbledore.
Dumbledore pauses as he sees the curse heading toward him.
He could dispel it. It was rather simple for him.
'You're a fool, Ally. You keep too many secrets and move people around like pawns for your grand schemes. One day, it will come back to bite you. You can't undo the past… no matter how hard you want others not to follow your mistakes,' says Aberforth Dumbledore.
Dumbledore knew his bother was right.
He couldn't deny it any longer after all these years.
He had hope, through Harry… he would fix the damage he had down to his own siblings by hoping Petunia would come to a stop hating her sister and care for her nephew.
He was wrong.
He's made mistakes, and it's coming back to bite him.
Dumbledore lowers his wand.
He smiles at Harry, giving him that warm, grandfatherly smile.
Time slows down for Harry and Dumbledore.
Dumbledore takes the spell head-on and flips back into the Head Table.
The Great Hall is stunned to see Albus Dumbledore defeated by Harry Potter.
Harry stands there panting.
His adrenaline has left his system as he stands there.
"Mr. Potter, enough!" shouts Professor McGonagall.
Lily walks up to Harry and places her hands on his chest, trying to calm him down.
"Want to tell me what that's was about?" says Lily.
Harry glares at Professor Snape, who stares back nervously.
"No," says Harry.
The Aurors walk forward, unsure of what they should do.
They just witnessed Harry Potter defeat one of the strongest wizards in the world.
Harry turns and storms off.
The students cleared a path, unwilling to stop him, and they could see he was upset.
Seamus looks at Harry in shock.
'Ron always said he was a Dark Wizard. Attacking Dumbledore for no reason isn't exactly honorable. Was Ron right, and he merely saw something we didn't?'
Harry walks off as the students clear a path for him.
Harry returns to his hidden dorm as the girls slowly make their way back to him.
"How's Dumbledore?" Harry asks Artemis.
"In intensive care. You really went crazy. This wasn't a mere duel. Something happened," says Artemis.
"It was Snape," Harry says bitterly.
"What does Snape have to do with this?" asks Artemis.
"You remember I told you about the Prophecy," says Harry.
"Yeah. You said Professor Trelawney made a prophecy regarding you and Voldemort," says Lily.
"It was Snape who overheard the prophecy and told Voldemort," says Harry.
Everyone looks at Harry in silence.
"Are you sure?" asks Daphne.
"Professor Trelawney herself told me," says Harry.
The girls remain silent.
"No wonder why you were pissed. Why would Dumbledore hire Snape to work for him?" says Lily.
"I don't know. Knowing Dumbledore as well as I do, he would say something along the lines, 'Snape made a terrible mistake,'" Harry says half-mockingly in Dumbledore's voice.
"He would say something like that," says Lily.
"What prophecy?" asks Astoria.
Daphne tells her sister about the prophecy surrounding Harry and the Dark Lord.
"Does this means Harry will defeat the Dark Lord?" asks Astoria.
"The prophecy does not foretell the victory. Only that one of us will fall. Snape heard the first three lines of the prophecy. He was kicked out and immediately told Voldemort. My parents' death… everything is because of him," says Harry.
"What if Professor Snape did make a mistake?" says Astoria.
"Astora… Professor Snape hates James Potter. They were known for loathing each other. They have a relationship similar to Harry and Ron Weasley. If Ron suddenly says he didn't mean anything nor wished any ill will towards Harry, wouldn't you be skeptical?" says Artemis.
Astoria says nothing, knowing the relationship between Ron and Harry has always been a cruel one.
Harry is everything Ron Weasley wanted.
Smart, popular, and rich.
That was on top of his fame.
Harry had a strong charisma that caused witches to fall for him.
"Why does Dumbledore trust him so much?" mutters Lily.
"I don't know. I might kill Snape the next time I see him," says Harry.
"Perhaps you shouldn't see him. Avoid Defense Against the Dark Arts no matter what,' says Artemis.
Snape's Office
Snape had witnessed Harry and Dumbledore duel as they tore up the Great Hall.
Potter was pissed, and it showed on his face.
Dumbledore is alive for the moment, but he doesn't have long to live.
Draco Malfoy stands before him.
"You are the last one, Draco," says Snape.
"My assignment is done," says Draco.
"Did anyone help you?" asks Snape.
Draco tries to remain calm.
"I managed," says Draco.
Snape looks at Draco carefully.
Draco answered wisely. He didn't confirm nor deny if anyone helped him.
"Professor Sterling has been killed. Your fellow students have disappeared or been murdered. You are the last Draco. I have told Horvath that you have succeeded in your assignment," says Snape.
"What will happen?" asks Draco.
"It is unwise to ask questions, Draco. It's best to do what you are told, keep your head down. When the time comes, I will assist you in leaving Hogwarts," says Snape.
"Yes, sir," Draco says sadly.
"I swore to your mother I would protect you with my life. I swore an Unbreakable Oath. I swear you'll survive this," says Snape.
Draco says nothing as he looks down sadly.
Astoria Greengrass would be leaving Hogwarts before the attack. It was tough knowing she was leaving with his child inside her belly.
They made choices and mistakes.
Astoria wanted Draco to live and come back.
"Is that all, sir?" asks Draco.
"For now. Be ready to depart before the deadline," says Snape.
Draco nods his head and turns and leaves the office.
Snape thinks carefully.
Snape suspects Potter found out the truth of his involvement with Lily's death. There is no doubt that Harry blames Snape for the death of his mother.
Snape thinks carefully and silently weeps over Lily's death.
Snape wouldn't be able to tell Potter the truth. Potter would kill him before he could tell him. Even if he had a chance to explain himself to Potter, he knew Potter would never believe him. Snape pulls out his wand, withdraws his hair, and places it into a vial.
Snape would have to time this perfectly.
The attack was coming soon, and Snape still didn't know the target.
