Year 6: Shrouds of Darkness
Harry walks up the grassy fields towards Hogsmeade. Harry walks with Lily. The rest of the school started avoiding him like the plague after the duel with Dumbledore.
Some of Lily's housemates from Gryffindor tried to convince her to break her engagement with Harry.
Lily denies doing so. Stating that Harry and Dumbledore have been at odds for some time. Harry's been having issues with the Headmaster.
It had to be big if the two got into a disagreement that ended in a duel.
Dumbledore had been discharged and could be seen walking around, but things have become sour between Harry and the Headmaster.
Harry hasn't spoken to Dumbledore since the duel.
Harry briefly wonders why Dumbledore didn't counter his spell. He knew he could have done so if he truly wanted. It was like he wanted Harry to defeat him.
Thankfully the Ministry of Magic hadn't arrived regarding the incident.
Harry is certain the Ministry is unsure how to process the incident.
They couldn't exactly move against him.
He was the only chance they had against the Death Eaters in the public's eyes. The only one stronger than Voldemort.
Most likely, they would wait and bid their time until after the war to charge him with war crimes.
Harry sighs. His life is always so complicated and fucked up.
"Are you sure you can't make peace with Professor Dumbledore?" said Lily.
"He's been lying to me, Lil's," said Harry.
"Lil's?" repeats Lily.
"You don't like it?" said Harry.
"It feels strange you calling me Lil's," said Lily.
"Sorry," said Harry.
"I don't mind. Even still, the situation can't have you two at each other's throats," said Lily.
"Why does he trust that bastard so much? Why does he ignore everything he does? It's like Dumbledore is blind to the fact Snape hates me," mutters Harry.
"Let's get some butterbeer," said Lily.
Butterbeer is a delicious drink that would help ease his mind.
At least, Lily hoped it would.
Harry and Lily enter the Three Broomsticks and order their plates.
Madam Rosmerta comes over with their drinks and food.
Lily looks at her fiancé. He's been depressed ever since his duel with Dumbledore.
Harry looks up and pauses.
"What is it?" asks Lily.
"I'll be back," said Harry.
Harry gets up and heads towards the wizard hanging by the back.
"I trust old snake face is well, Amycus," said Harry.
Amycus Carrow looks at Harry in surprise and shock.
He quickly reacts by reaching for his wand. Harry simply stabs him in the gut.
Amycus looks stunned as he receives a couple more stabs.
A witch walks forward and stops upon seeing Harry and Amycus.
"Hello, Alecto. You're looking better," said Harry.
"Potter!" screams Alecto.
As she reaches for her wand, she pauses, feeling something puncture her in her gut.
She looks down and sees an ice shard.
'What is Death Eaters doing in one of the backrooms of the Three Broomsticks? There is no way Madam Rosmerta would….'
Harry's eyes open wide.
Now he could piece together the puzzle.
How the Death Eaters were able to communicate to and from the Castle.
Harry raises his wand and kills the two Carrows quickly.
He steps over their bodies and quickly heads to the counter.
"Mr. Potter… is everything alright?" asks Madam Rosmerta.
"Stupefy!"
Madam Rosmerta falls to the ground as everyone looks at Harry in shock.
"Harry, what are you doing?!" shouts Lily.
"Send word to the Castle. Alert the Aurors. There is an incoming Death Eater attack. Madam Rosmerta is likely under the Imperius Curse," said Harry.
The pub falls silent upon hearing Harry's words.
"How can you be sure?" says Lily.
"I just killed the Carrows in the backroom!" said Harry.
"Someone call the Aurors!"
"We should go!"
Panic quickly ensues as everyone begins pushing to leave.
Lily calmly rubs her ring, warning the Circle members of the incoming attack.
Hogsmeade soon hears of the incoming Death Eater attack.
Students were fleeing back to the Castle to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
"Harry!"
Harry looks as he sees several members of the Circle approaching him. Daphne and Tracy were among them.
"What's the plan?" asks Ernie.
"We still don't know when the attack will happen. If I had to guess, it would be just before eleven when everyone is trying to get lunch," said Harry.
"That's less than ten minutes," said Hannah.
"We'll focus on creating a defensive position. Work in pairs, and always stay in contact with each other. Remember, the Death Eaters will be throwing lethal curses and even Unforgivables. Stay alert and have something to protect yourself with," said Harry.
"Right, let's start with the Three Broomsticks. We'll cover each area leading to the Inn," said Neville.
Harry looks at Neville.
Neville has taken the leadership role quite well.
Everyone moves out as they begin casting traps and defensive barriers.
Harry waves his wand, preparing for the worse.
The Carrows really should learn Occlulmency. In her moment of fear, Alectro Carrow revealed everything to him.
Harry waves his wand and places his hand on the ground.
His familiar, the Wyvern appears from his summon.
Lily summons her Salamander.
"Harry!" Tonks said, running up to him.
"Hey Tonks!" said Harry.
"Harry, you and the students need to return to Hogwarts!" said Tonks.
"We're staying!" shouts Harry.
Before Tonks could argue, several pops could be heard as the Death Eaters and their forces arrived.
The Aurors and Defenders quickly respond by casting spells upon the arriving Death Eaters, who were completely caught off guard.
Chaos quickly ensues as the battle for Hogsmeade begins.
Harry banishes the Death Eater, who attempts to curse Susan Bones from behind.
The Death Eater flies backward, not knowing how to counter or brace himself.
The Death Eaters who arrived were clearly confused as they didn't expect the residents and students to be waiting for them.
Spells began raining all over the place as Death Eaters were caught in the opening as spells rained around them.
A high pitch crackle could be heard as Bellatrix Lestrange arrived.
Neville attempts to leave the safety of his barricade until Hannah pulls him back.
"Stay put, don't put yourself in danger, Neville!" shouts Hannah.
"But…" shouts Neville, eyeing Bellatrix Lestrange.
"We need you here!" shouts Hannah.
Neville restrains himself and returns to help his fellow students defend the area.
Knowing the Death Eaters wouldn't cause any serious harm to him, Harry walks forward and begins thinning out their numbers.
Harry freezes Jogan to a statue.
He blasts another Death Eater off his feet and into some barrels.
Bellatrix rushes forward to meet Harry.
A powerful spell knocks her to the ground.
"Hello, Bella! How's your arm!" shouts Lily.
"Mudblood!" screeches Bellatrix.
Bellatrix stands up but quickly dives as Lily's spell nearly decapitates her.
Lily rains hell upon Bellatrix, who screams, trying to best the young witch.
Harry points his wand at a Death Eater trying to curse Lily.
'Sectumsempra!'
The Death Eater pauses as he looks at Harry before falling to the ground.
Explosions erupt all over the place as spells destroy everything around them.
Even though the Death Eaters were outnumbered and had lost the element of surprise, they didn't care about the damage they were causing. They were still losing as the Death Eaters kept falling.
"We need Fiendfyre!" shouts a Death Eater.
"No, you fool!" shouts another as his comrade begins to cast Fiendfyre.
The Fiendfyre erupts from the Death Eater's wand as it begins to bear down upon the defenders.
The Fiendfyre stops and doesn't go any further.
"You idiot! Why would you give her more power!" shouts the Death Eater.
"What are you talking about?!" said the Death Eater who had cast the Fiendfyre.
"Your friend isn't very smart," said Lily.
Lily smirks as Bellatrix pales.
"Avada Kedavra!" Bellatrix screams, pointing her wand at Lily.
Lily uses her Quidditch reflexes to dodge the incoming Killing Curse.
Harry pauses, seeing the killing curse hit a student.
Harry felt time had stopped as the student hit the ground.
Harry rushes over and looks at his friend.
Tracey Davis falls to the ground, dead.
Harry holds her, crying. Hoping she would open her eyes.
Daphne comes over and hugs her best friend.
Harry's mind looks at Tracy, thinking about all the times he's been with her.
From their Sorting to the classes they've been together.
Harry's mind kept withdrawing from reality. Trying to convince himself that this was nothing but a bad dream.
The more he held Tracey's lifeless body, the more reality set in.
Harry screams.
He let out everything.
Every emotion he kept locked inside of him out.
He screams.
His scream terrified everyone around him who heard his screams.
The Death Eaters froze upon hearing the scream.
It sounded so dreadful, so chilling, so terrifying. It hurt so much that they couldn't help but feel a sense of fear.
Clouds begin gathering above as lightning claps overhead.
The distance sound and roar of thunder could be heard.
The Fiendfyre disappears as everyone looks at Harry.
He was pissed.
Ice begins to cover the entire area.
The Death Eaters panic as the ice starts covering their robes.
Harry screams again.
A blizzard suddenly swept the area.
Many Death Eaters were immediately caught in the blizzard, but the ice shards tore their bodies apart, killing them.
Bellatrix pants heavily as she tries to scuttle into the building for protection.
Large ice shards flew and killed her husband in front of her.
Bellatrix's eyes widen in fear as the storm reflects Potter's scream.
She watches as Potter's scream causes ice pillars to appear, killing her comrades.
"Everyone falls out!" shouts a Death Eater.
"We can't disparate!" shouts another.
"What do we…" shouts another before being torn to shred by the ice shards flying around in the blizzard.
Bellatrix has never felt so terrified.
She had to hide and wait to leave the area.
Lily looks at Harry, screaming.
His pain could be felt.
No one could get near him.
'Harry, is this the first time you let your pain out?'
Lily thinks about Harry and her relationship with him.
'We are so alike, yet so different. Your family despises you, forcing you to hide yourself from others. My father neglected me, so I sought attention. You draw others towards you, but you keep yourself a safe distance.'
Lily sees Harry standing in the frozen plain all by himself.
'You feared being hurt. You sought that connection with others, but you grew up in solitude. I wanted others to see me for who I was, so I stood and shouted for others to hear and see me.'
Lily sees herself standing on a mountain as she looks down upon Harry's frozen tundra.
'Harry… despite all your strong connections and emotions, you've kept them locked inside. You've created a barrier, keeping others out so you wouldn't be hurt. It's not your power, you fear… it's being truly accepted.'
Lily looks sadly at her fiancé, who continues to scream.
'We both walked the path of solitude but took different paths to escape. You still are… alone, aren't you.'
Lily walks forwards and places her hands on Harry's shoulders before resting her head on his back.
"You can stop Harry," said Lily.
"You're not alone."
Harry stops as the storm dies, allowing everyone to escape their hiding spot.
Harry cries in Lily's arms.
Horvath watches from afar.
Horvath found himself dumbfounded in dealing with Potter's power.
'It shouldn't be possible! It's not winter! How did he summon such a storm? There is more to Mr. Potter than we originally thought.'
Horvath disapparates, leaving at once.
Bellatrix watches fearfully.
Knowing she's well outside her depth, she disapparates as well.
"The Castle!" shouts Ernie.
Everyone turns to look and sees the Dark Mark cast above Hogwarts.
