Author's note: I'm not much of a poet, but I can't resist joining a fanfic-challenge either. So this was written for a poetry challenge with one of the DMC trailers as the 'theme'. I centred my poem 'round the kiss that Jack and Elizabeth share. waves her little J/E banner For those interested; it's a sonnet with a Shakespearean rhyme pattern (abab cdcd efef gg).

The Kiss

Where a heart should abide lies a dark empty hole
Thus they fear neither Lord nor the Beast
They cannot know love for their black hearted soul
Is condemned where morality ceased

They're dark empty shells, no light is within
These villains and rogues of the seas
Their virtues abstain though plenty's their sin
Their breed has been spread like disease

But how can I trust this malicious word
When his eyes sparkle life from inside?
What if his story is simply misheard
And his song thus forever confined?

The touch of his lips - both sincere and divine
How could I neglect... a soul in union with mine?
