Another chapter for y'all!
PS: Danny Phantom isn't mine, the OCs are. Annoying disclaimer out of the way, now story time.
Chapter 4: Discoveries
The two kids went up to the library's index computer. "You see, Alex, if I'm a ghost, then I have ghost powers. We need to find a book about ghosts." A slightly blue mist came from her mouth as she talked.
Heather selected the nonfiction filters and searched for ghosts. There weren't many, but she saw what she needed.
The two rushed over to the section the book was at, and pulled it off the shelf. It was large and heavy, and was titled Everything You Need to Know About Ghosts. The cover was shiny silver-grey with a green ghost design on it.
"Uhh, Heather, this book's authors are Jack and Maddie Fenton. Aren't they your grandparents?"
"I think so," Heather replied. "Dad never told me they knew about ghosts. I'll ask him about it later. Right now, let's check this book out. It looks like it should have all the answers."
The two were at Alex's house reading the book on ghosts. They browsed through the chapters, amazed at how much info there was.
Heather was reading a passage in the book. "'A ghost portal can take as little energy as the equivalent of fifty level one ecto-blasts (or 50 rays/R, rays being the measurement used to measure ghost energy) or as much as five level ten ecto-blasts (five gigarays/gR) to form at the highest recorded, however they usually stay at around one milliray/mR, a level 5 ecto-blast equivalent.' Wow, I never knew my grandparents did this stuff. This is crazy."
Alex silently read a few more sentences. "Woah, Heather, look at this. 'It is possible to become a half ghost, or halfa as ghosts say, from these portals. However, it takes a one gigaray portal to cause. It can also occur when an artificial portal turns on when the human is inside, because the initial forming of the portal is one gigaray before it stabilizes. This has only been recorded twice, and has a high chance of killing the person fully.' Crazy, isn't it?"
"Yeah, very. But it says right here that portals can't form under the anti-portal shielding, and if they do, they never reach power over a hundred rays."
"There must be something to explain that." Alex went to the table of contents. "Here, lets go to the section on half ghosts." Alex flipped through the book until he found half ghosts. He read through silently until he found a few paragraphs on how they are formed:
Half ghosts are formed when a human experiences one gigaray of ecto-energy. There is only one way this has been confirmed to happen: Being blasted by a ghost portal at one or higher gigirays.
It has been theorized that a human with ghost DNA, an inactive ghost core, or ectoplasm in their blood can become a half ghost with a much lower amount of ghost energy, because of ghost DNA in the body separate from human DNA bound to the human DNA. This is not confirmed.
Heather reread the page closely. "So that must be how it happened. I had ghost DNA in me from the start."
"The question is, how did you get the ghost DNA in the first place?"
Ghost POV
The ghost flew into the blue sky, taking in the warmth of the sun. He hadn't felt the sun in years.
The ghost wasn't worried about the girl who touched the portal. She only became a halfa. No big deal.
The girl still was in school, and would be for hours. He was curious on what she would do about her powers, and if times didn't change too much in 22 years, he knew the first place she would go. But until then, he had free time.
Getting a feel for the slightly different (to him) gravity, he morphed into a bright green cat. He jumped across the rooftops, climbing up walls that were too tall. At the last tall building of the block, he jumped off the roof and morphed into a hawk. He flew through the city, enjoying the feel of wind in his feathers (the ghost zone rarely had any wind) and eventually landed in a dark alleyway behind the city library. He morphed into a human. The morph was perfect. No imperfections, thanks to his practice. Even his glowing eyes were disguised.
The human girl who touched the portal and her friend walked into the library. He knew they would come here. She was obviously confused of what happened to her, and as far as she knew, libraries were the best place for information. The ghost was lucky the library was still in the same building after 22 years so he could find the girl again in the first place.
He waited a few minutes, as to not seem suspicious, then went in the library. The girl was on the computer, and the boy was browsing through the nonfiction. I pretended to look for books while watching the boy. He pulled out a book on supernatural history.
So, they know it's ghostly.
He followed them in their searches, listened to their conversations. Soon enough, they left the library, and the ghost followed.
Before he could see where the kids were going, the ghost's wrist-mounted computer beeped. The screen showed a reading of a nearby fluctuation of the natural ghost energy, a very bad sign in the world of his research.
He followed the arrow on the computer's screen and in the distance, saw a glowing green light on a billboard. He got closer to it, and saw it was a natural portal. It glowed bright, and something either blasted, knocked, or shocked him at mach speed into the sky, knocking him unconscious. He never saw what it was.
New A/N: I fixed this chapter. It used to be horrible and now it's mildly OK. Just look at the old A/N below.
Original A/N: I'm not too proud of this chapter. Oh well. It'll get better soon.
