And just like that, it was time for Nyoko and her sisters to start a new chapter in their lives: high school. Things started out uneventfully enough. First, the triplets had to get up at around 5:30 in the morning and get everything ready for their first day of high school. This, of course, included gathering all the school supplies their parents had bought for them into their backpacks. Then, they had to go downstairs into the kitchen where their mother had made breakfast. She'd made their favorite breakfast of all breakfasts: chocolate chip pancakes with syrup and butter with bacon and hash browns. It might not have been the healthiest breakfast in the world, but it was certainly the tastiest.
For their first day of school, Momoko and Miyako decided to go all out fashion-wise. They were dressed in navy blue polo shirts paired with sky blue cropped hoodies that barely extended past their waists, black leather pants, and light blue two-step slide sandals. They also wore iridescent reflective aqua and silver sunglasses that looked like they were covering their eyes and eyebrows, just enough that they didn't seem to swallow the top half of their faces.
Nyoko, however, just opted to wear dark ripped jeans, a cream and Hawaiian floral dress that her mother had bought on a trip to Hawaii in the '70s, and white tennis shoes that seemed to be deteriorating with each year that passed by.
Just as the Goshima triplets were heading out for the bus, their parents decided to send them off with some hugs and kisses and some declarations that they hoped the girls had a wonderful first day of school. Soon enough, the Goshima sisters all headed out onto the Conifer High School bus and decided to endure the ride over. Nyoko just wanted to get the whole thing over with, especially when her mother had scheduled her to get her abortion right after school. It's not like she had much choice in the matter (other than risk having her whole family disown her for something that wasn't even her fault). At least from the looks of it, Eric wasn't anywhere to be found on the bus (though maybe he just opted to have his mother drive him to school instead).
Once at their destination, the Goshima sisters made their way inside the school and started making beelines for their first classes of the day. Nyoko found her first class rather quickly: Mrs. Nelson's English class. Nyoko thought it sucked that she couldn't get Mrs. Nguyen again, but she had to hope Mrs. Nelson was just as good of a teacher as Mrs. Nguyen was. She quickly got into her seat and waited for Mrs. Nelson to show up.
Just a few minutes later, Mrs. Nelson showed up to begin the class. Mrs. Nelson had fair skin, brown almond-shaped eyes, and black hair neatly done up into a bun. She wore a black skirt, a magenta v-neck shirt, and a white undershirt. She also wore black flats on her feet and a Casio Baby-G watch.
"Good morning, class," Mrs. Nelson began to speak. "Before we begin, I just want to say that I hope you all had a great summer vacation. Alright, now that that's out of the way, welcome to ninth grade. My name is Margaret Nelson, but you can just call me Mrs. Nelson."
"Hello, Mrs. Nelson," almost all of the students said in unison.
"Okay." Mrs. Nelson got out a clipboard from her desk. "Why don't we start taking roll call in alphabetical order? Let's see... Henrietta Biggle."
An overweight fourteen-year-old girl with medium-length, straight black hair and wearing all black raised her hand. "Here!"
"Token Black," Mrs. Nelson called out.
A fourteen-year-old boy with dark brown skin and short, black hair shot his hand up. "Actually, it's Tolkien Black. You know, like the author of 'The Lord of the Rings?'"
Mrs. Nelson cleared her throat. "Right, my mistake. Timmy Burch."
A wheelchair-bound fourteen-year-old boy with fair skin and strawberry blonde hair raised his hand. "Here!"
The rest of Mrs. Nelson's role call went on like that, seeming to drone on and on forever. Nyoko wished that it would just end. Finally, Mrs. Nelson's role call ended with the last teen in the class, Tammy Warner.
Tammy Warner had long, streaked brown hair with blonde highlights. She wore a red crop top, blue denim shorts, a golden heart necklace, and pink and purple bracelets. She also wore dark blue shoes and white socks with light blue stripes.
"Tammy Warner," Mrs. Nelson called out.
Tammy raised her hand. "Here!"
"Alright," Mrs. Nelson said. "I think I got everyone. Now I would like everyone to stay at their seats while I start handing out syllabuses. After that, we're going to introduce ourselves."
Mrs. Nelson proceeded to hand out syllabuses to all of the students present, making absolutely sure everyone got them.
"Alright, time to introduce ourselves." She then pointed at Nyoko. "Uh, Nyoko, why don't you go first?"
Nyoko let out a reluctant sigh and went up to the front of the class. "Alright. Well, my name is Nyoko Goshima. I'm the youngest of triplet girls, my mother is a sansei, and my father is a second-generation immigrant from Switzerland." Upon seeing some of the students' confused looks, she explained, "A sansei is a grandchild of Japanese immigrants."
The other students just oohed at her. Nyoko talked some more about what happened during the summer, making sure to conveniently leave out any details she didn't want to share to the class. Eventually, she stopped talking about herself and went back to her desk.
After that, the rest of the students went up and introduced themselves, even talking about what they did for summer vacation. Nyoko couldn't be bothered to give a shit about any of this, especially since other things preoccupied her mind. Nyoko just stared out at the other students for what felt like an eternity and a half before everyone was finally done introducing themselves.
"Well, wasn't that interesting, class?" Mrs. Nelson asked all of her students. "Everyone got to know each other, even for just a little bit." She then looked to the clock hanging over the chalkboard. "Oh, well, would you look at the time? It's time for you all to head on down to your next classes. Remember to go over your syllabuses when you get home."
At lunchtime, Nyoko and her sisters met up with Kyle, Stan, Eric, and Kenny at a cafeteria table in order to catch up on everything that happened over the summer.
"How have you been, Nyoko?" Kyle gingerly asked Nyoko.
Nyoko's eyes darted down to the ground. "Okay, I guess. It's just... I found out that I'm pregnant, but I don't want to keep the baby. I'd rather give it up to someone who'd really want a baby... like your parents."
"That's... actually really sweet of you, Nyoko..." Kyle sighed. "But I'm not sure my parents want to adopt right now, especially after what Mom experienced this summer..."
Nyoko reached out to touch Kyle on the shoulder. "I'm sorry to hear that, man."
"Well, at least you could try to figure something else out with your folks."
"Yeah, about that... she actually wants me to get an abortion. In fact, she scheduled to have me get an abortion right after school. I think she threatened to throw me out if I tried to fight it."
Kyle was gobsmacked by what he just heard. "Wow. And all that over something that wasn't even your fault?"
"Wow, what a shitty mom," Eric suddenly chimed in.
"Shut the fuck up, Cartman!" Kyle snapped at him.
Eric then focused his attention on Kyle. "Nah, seriously, Nyoko's mom is a fucking bitch. She's blaming her own kid when she should be blaming Xemnas the rapist instead! I mean how fucked up do you have to be to roofie someone with quaaludes?"
Nyoko's expression paved the way for fury, and she whipped her head to look at Eric. "Wha... what did you say?"
"I said, 'How fucked up do you have to be to roofie someone with quaaludes?'"
Nyoko's furious expression transformed into an expression more akin to curiosity. "How did you know he'd roofied me with quaaludes?"
Eric started sweating. All he could come up with was, "Lucky guess?"
"Oh my God... you gave him the quaaludes, didn't you? But why?"
"Because you ratted me and your sister out to Heidi, that's why! You got what you fucking deserved, you bitch! Heidi won't even talk to me now. Maybe if you'd kept your mouth shut for five fucking seconds, then you wouldn't be pregnant and your mom wouldn't be forcing you to get an abortion."
Nyoko leaned over and slapped Eric across the face. "I never asked to be raped, you psychopath! I'm turning 14 next month. I'm supposed to be experiencing the best years of my life, and you had to go and ruin them just to be petty. Fuck you, Cartman!"
Nyoko got up and stormed out of the cafeteria, tears starting to well up in her eyes. She couldn't do this. She couldn't be in the same room with someone like Eric who actually went and ruined her life to such epic proportions. She needed to clear her head. She needed to find the strength to get away from everything and forget the world for even just a second.
