A tension rested, a tension so thick that no fly nor mosquito found ease in their flight. Lady Riles took assertion in her stance, shocked by the scene she just witnessed. Why would her daughter kiss the intruder who dares graze his foot into the palace of a strictly female town?
"Why..." She began in a quietened tone
"To defend an enemy of your mother, what is this abomination!" Silence still stood its stance, as did Urbosa as she said with a rage-fuelled glare. "What is this fucking abomination!" In a fit of rage Lady Riles slammed the whip onto the floor, the echo resounding for much longer than a second. As she stood there she had her eyes on her daughter, though her mind appeared very one track right now, it dare strayed back to the moments before where she bestowed a needed 'punishment' upon her, their conversation prior.
The audience slowly began their whispering and ushering whilst Lady Riles stood frozen in place, her daughter... kissed this boy, the very one who pulled off the impressive feat of sneaking into this town, and into the palace no less and followed them.
"Stop, Urbosa." Ruben was the first to break the once again brief silence, though his voice croaked he still manage to gain attention. "This was the cause of my impudence, you shouldn't have to suffer on my behalf," he stated surprising affirmatively as she held the young woman's hand in his weakened grasp. However she simply stood, teeth now grit and fists clenched, it seemed she had no care for words and was ready to lash out at the chief as she kept her everlasting eye contact.
"Why did you sneak in?" Urbosa finally muttered, feeling the weight of his hand on her wrist. "What is your purpose in being here, and what precautions have you taken to anger my mother to such a state?" She further questioned, Ruben looked back up to her with eyes shining with hope as managed to regain his footing.
"Forgive me, but, for that tale, I would need time that I do not have at current." he nodded his head towards the chief in front of them, bearing her eyes and legs like that of a raging bull about to charge towards them at any given moment. The mere sight of her was enough to send the boy into a state of cowardice, where he shamelessly quivered behind Urbosa, who in this situation was less fear struck and more anger-filled, an emotion which in the little time he knew her he hadn't even considered she could display. He felt an uncomfortable sort of safety around her but was in fact just glad to have that security.
"Why such harsh punishment?!" Urbosa practically exploded at her opening statement to her mother, now practically as enraged as her and ignore all sense, all people who stood around her and found only her growing emotion of rage to be the most prominent aspect. Ruben took rubbed her arm slightly, signalling her to stop and calm down, however, she simply brushed him off and carried on with her advances, now daring to even take a step towards her mother and stand and tense every muscle in her body. Ruben still quivered, now even more so scared than he was prior since Urbosa was throwing herself out there the way she was.
"His very being here goes against the essential rule! And you dare question why!" *Crash* As her Mother practically tried to lunge forward, another stray lightning bolt managed to make it's way to the ground via Urbosa's snap, though it was threatening, it barely held as much power as the first and was in fact, off-target, and had landed far more to the right than Urbosa had anticipated.
-No! That's not right! why must it be that I am currently so weak!?- All of a sudden, Urbosa felt dizziness, a sign of her weakness, she had overexerted herself though she felt unwilling to admit it. Her stance faltered for the few minutes that Lady Riles, and everyone in the near area, could feel the blast and we're trying our best to recover from the shock. Ruben, seeing this, kept a tighter grasp on her despite also being weak himself, trying to help her stand assertively once more. "I beg of you, please just let the situation go to rest. You are clearly exhausted-"
"I am not, exhausted." She rebutted, shakily gaining her stance once again. "I can... fight." Though the harsh reality was that, even in her best condition she would barely even be able to graze her mother, let alone now where she laid cooped up on a small scale for most of two weeks under the most ridiculous of conditions. Ruben knew this, he knew from the start that barely anyone would be able to make a fit match against the chief, and so with the slight bit of strength he had left, he gripped her arm with all his might to hold her back. "I can't let you," he spoke firmly, and just when Urbosa was about to make the move to push him off.
The sound of Gasping and whispering was put to a halt at the noise of stomping, it seemed. Acute stomping, soon followed by the bellowing of sand seals barking together to create a chaotic harmony that was growing louder by the second. Everyone's heads collectively diverted to the sound to see the horror that was approaching them.
Sand seals in the masses coming towards them in a great panic, all of them coming at dangerous speed all walloping and moving towards them like the clueless animals they were. And behind them, what provoked such a large flurry of the creatures, "A Fire?!" One of the citizens shouted. Not to mention the where size of the flame, quickly evolving to tower as high as one of the buildings, and so with the spread of a giant blaze, there was also a spread of imminent chaos.
"The sand seals... animals of their calibre are sure to injure at least a few..." The chief uttered, surveying the situation, seeing the conflict that was caused and how the town's citizens scammed around like chickens with their heads cut off. She then turned back to Urbosa and Ruben, seeing that they too were focused on what had amassed. Her daughter then redirected her gaze, pulling it straight back to her mother in that instance to the point where they locked eyes, she seemed caught off guard. However, Lady Riles could sense through motherly instinct that Urbosa was conspiring behind those eyes of hers, the real question being what the plan was, what exactly was it that she was scheming?
-A fire?! A FIRE?! Why now of all times, it's as though the world wishes to see me fall flat on my face just so they can laugh at my failures. This won't do at all, how will I be able to dissolve both the situation at hand whilst dealing with this newfound difficulty!?- "Gah! Damned seals!" The chief reflexively jumped out of the way as the large animal was practically about to ram her into a nearby wall.
"Everyone! Get inside!" A guard called out, jumping to action in order to assist everyone to safety, the atmosphere, however, was still overwrought with destruction and fear. And through the pandemonium, it seemed that Urbosa's mind couldn't stray from an idea that popped into her head with the want to be executed. She was going to help him escape, using this event as an opportunity to do so. Her eyes darted around, desperation filling all of her senses as any way out would prove to aid her plans. -Nothing comes up immediately, come on, there must be a method to escape, there must be.- Alas, her eyes landed on, nothing, everywhere showed heavily guarded exits, as well as panicked citizens. The meaning of chaos itself surrounded her, one's brain can find it hard to focus under such overwhelming situations.
"On my move, run. There isn't a minute to spare." Her voice was dire, desperate, hoping that a sudden spur of the moment action would actually help turn the tables in her favour. The plan was: Run. Ruben corroborated, being too overwhelmed with all the sudden events that were taking place to even care too much about how he was going to get out of it, he sheepishly nodded, ready to follow every demand as though he were a sheep himself.
With Lady Riles now caught up in the curfuffle, it was the best yet the riskiest plan she could come up with, the simplicity of it made it that way. Taking Ruben's shakey and clammy hand in her own (as well as a deep breath) before swiftly spinning around, and making a break for it. Not even taking the time to warn her unfortunate friend as they dashed off leaving him to almost stumble behind her in an effort to keep up with the Gerudo's speed. -Holy crap her grip... it's so strong! She's practically dragging me- And as they ran hand in hand towards some form of escape, only one thought ran through Urbosa's mind -I cannot fail-
They pushed through dozens of civilians who hadn't even the mind to notice them whiz by due to the hysteria that was occurring, they were too blinded by their own selfish desires to be safe that they hadn't noticed the voe and the future chief of their very own town breaking impressive speeds while being bound together. The crowds of terrified women however served to be the least of their problems, as there was a much more dangerous factor at play here. Rampant sand seals. At quantities of much more than a mere few. They were everywhere, the Gerudo may have been proud of their sand seal population but now their very existence was dreaded by the people that once adored them, as the fear driven into the animal's hearts had now resulted in them accidentally running over the town's occupants. -A fire... Sand seals... The flogging of a boy I met a few weeks Prior. What is happening!-
-Earlier that day-
"Ah, here we are." Karu stopped a set dew metres away from the large open archway of Gerudo. "Gerudo town, the trip will most definitely prove taxing but the sale here is worth the walk." The man seemed to be unaffected but the heavy drought-like weather and the feel of high humidity upon his skin, however, not much could be said for his companion who practically looked like he was about to pass away at any given moment from the blistering sun, it's presence felt as though it was forever as they traversed the sandy landscape of the desert.
"My... my goodness. Hah...and you- you managed to do this on a monthly basis? You must have tolerance as stubborn as steel my friend." Ruben struggled to say as he lagged behind, panting all the while, hoping they would stop even if it were for but a moment so that he could regain breath. Karu guffawed at his statement, seeing the boy's relief and ready to shatter it with the cold hard truth.
"Remember, we have the same length to travel back. You may want to brace yourself for the journey." Ruben groaned loudly, his body swaying like a frail leaf in the wind struggling to cling onto its designated branch. And yet Karu couldn't help himself but laugh at the expense of the amateur. He offered him a comforting hand on his shoulder as the teen stood hunched forward and leaning on his knees, attempting to regain some essence of energy as he huffed. "It's all part of the job my friend. Think about it, I have to trek this distance on a monthly basis and it has hardly any effect on me now!"
"Your boasting...pant pant... is of no help to me..."
"You say that, but I can tell you admire me deep down dear friend." He patted the boy's head in a patronising manner as he continued to force a chuckle. Eventually, Ruben managed to gain his composure and trail further behind Karu as they continued to walk closer to the town, the boy still very much in a hazy state from the intense heat, paired with the length treck which lead them to where they were now.
BACK TO THE PRESENT:
The two dashed across paths bumbling with confusion and chaos, still continuing their pursuit towards the nearest exit. Urbosa hardly stopped, she didn't feel the need to, right now her metal capacity was taken up with but one throught. Run.
The same couldn't be said for Ruben, he was a tried boy just recently exposed to a climate as harsh as the Gerudo desert had provided, he could hardly walk let alone run through the provided the conditions. His mind was as frantic as the town that surrounded him, he couldn't seem to focus on the goal of escape any more than he could the bizarre situation he was placed in. -I haven't even the slightest idea of how I ended up here! one moment I am walking with Karu through the desert the next I end up on the floor of this woman only land, town, place! Then, I am beaten by this mountain of a woman who I can only expect to be Urbosa's mother and she kisses me! Wait she... I... SHE KISSED ME!?-
Having been so caught up in trying to make sense of things, his focus dwindled, as did his footing causing him to trip and fumble to try and get back into place. "Urbosa! Urbosa, stop!" He exclaimed, "Please I-I need a moment!" She slowed down her pace, trying to line up with Ruben as he regained his posture once they came to a halt. The pair were both breathing heavily, their sweltering hands now melded together as tightly as their grip would allow despite how they were no long on a sprint. Urbosa grew angsty with the realisation that they were losing time, darting her eyes around for any possible threats and the most damning threat of all, her mother.
With the bellowing of the guards not doing well to soothe her worries, she impatiently tugged at his arm, signifying that she wanted to go, that she wanted to continue to escape. Ruben perked his head up at hers, breathing disorderly and very much auditable as he strived to gain the energy to keep going, soon shaking his head at her request to move forward once more. "I-I need a moment."
"I have given you plenty of a moment, we really must get moving if you wish to escape." She wasn't nearly as fatigued as her rebellious subordinate, though she herself was breathing heavier than usual, she still had the energy to continue. "Come on! We need to get going!" -We need to go, I can feel that old woman getting closer by the second, though she may not be in my peripheral vision, she is simply too dead set on causing my misery to have me get away. I cannot let her win.-
"But- gah!" before he could even protest, the pair were on the move again, the town still bumbling frantically around them. Having lost their previous momentum they weren't traveling nearly as fast, however that didn't stop their distance from the exit shortening. "H-hey-"
"Let us converse later! We're almost through!" Step, by speedy step, they traveled, till there was only but a distance measured a few feet away, a distance that would make their rambunctious struggle worth the while. Urbosa felt the blood rush to her ears, face growing impossibly hotter as a result of putting every ounce of energy she had into this, the ringing in her ears growing more prominent as they neared the final stretch. With a burning abdomen and screaming legs, they pushed through the crowd of already scared Vai trying to escape the compound, blending in with the civilians and they finally made it across the arch.
But Urbosa's heart, her heart didn't stop it's heavy worried beats for in the choas in of it all, she let one single, most important factor, slip her mind. -Shit... The out guard!- She stole a glance at Ruben for a second as they began to slow down, the sheer size of the crowd forcing them to do so as they strove to stay bound together by the hands. -They must have received word of this entire fiasco... they must have received word of him.- His face, was lost, confused, and hanging on to the last string of hope he appeared to have in this scorching time. -If they catch him...-
- I fail-
???
"Well, shit." Karu cursed under his breath, feeling the the frustration build up having beheld the sight before him. "SHIT!" He slammed the cave walls, the impact of his fist bouncing off of the walls as they echoed. "All of this trouble... and for what?! GRRRAAAAH!" Evidently, Karu was in quite a heavy but of rage, as to why would only be an answer he could possibly know.
Allocated in a cave not very far from the town was where he resided, it was slightly higher however, granting him that little bit of leverage. "I've... I've used up most of my power, all of our plans... the opportunity finally presents it's self and are you to say we can hardly grasp it between our own desperate fingertips! HUH HYLIA!!" Karu now paced the stone enclosure, clutching his hand which appeared to be burdened with some form of wound wrapped up in tight bandage, it was recent. "Should they grab a hold of Ruben, everything... my reputation... I will only be known as a failure with a foolish plan. An idiot..." He mumbled self intended insults, swiftly looking over his shoulder, hatefully gazing at Gerudo with much resent.
"Make it out Ruben, Or so help me I will... No, no It's... it's not his fault." Karu picked up the summoning paper he had layed previously on the floor, with its use it grew discoloured and was reduced now to a plain grey. "Such a waste... Fucking guard."
2 Hours Later
At the watch tower Urbosa and Ruben resided. After the events which played out in the town the pair were too on edge, too shaken to even speak. Despite their promises to explain later it appears at though later never came in those hours after their escape, and so quite rested as Urbosa constantly stayed on guard at the old abandoned watch tower which they now used as their temporary shelter, she flinched at the slightest sound darted her eyes at the littlest of movement like a heavily disciplined guard dog on duty.
The same however couldn't be said for Ruben, the boy was so out of it. His focus was hardly even there as his brain spent every waking moment trying to piece together events, trying to make sense of his situation which for some reason had the most worrying of gaps within it. -How... how did I end up there?- Was a question that continued to frequent his brain. -Where was he... Karu... How, please how did it come to this? What if they're after us... after me... what will I do? I'm only good for fighting puny bokoblins.- He sheepishly glanced up at her. -It's her, she is most certainly my only hope- Urbosa's stare hardly let up in the slightest as she surveyed the area from the ledge of the tower. -She has hardly had a moment's rest since we arrived. We haven't even spoke a word since, the last we did speak would have been when... she gave me this apparel . We don't appear to be moving any time soon, perhaps... I can do it now?-
He rose from his once curled up position not far from the deck, dusting off his trousers and slowly taking steps to approach the heavily attentive girl, his heart racing even more with every step that he took. He could sense how tense she was simply by looking at her, she was most definitely not most approachable at this time, however there was no telling where he would be getting this opportunity back. "H-hey Urbo-" Shing he was met with quite the sharp weapon, one he didn't even know she was harbouring, a moon light scamitar staring him in the eyes with its glaringly shiny steel. and with its stare, also accompanied Urbosa's.
"Who are you? And how did you manage to infiltrate my town?" Her tone, she was serious, extremely so as it hardly wavered. This most definitely set the tone as to what she was thinking, her intentions in saying this, immediately he three his hands up, issuing his surrender and that he meant no harm. -What is this? She-She's threatening me? Why- Her town... There must be a rule but I'm not the enemy, I know I'm not!-
"Urbosa! Where did you-"
"Answer the fucking question. I made an extremely risky move today for your sake, the least you can do give me an explanation worth of my efforts." it appeared as though the tense atmosphere from earlier had managed to return, surfacing it's self with the interaction between the two. Urbosa was most certainly asserting more of the dominance on her side than Ruben could ever imagine holding himself.
-She's serious... extremely serious. There is no way she would hurt me thought, right? Especially after taking me out of that horrible situation, but there is no sure telling that she won't just snap. Oh no, I doubt she will be too pleased with my answer.- "I..." he began, taking a heavy intake of breath before consequently exhaling "I don't... know." His voice grew quieter with shame, shame that he wasn't able to provide her with an applicable answer. She was quite visibly confused, and her eyebrows forming a deeper furrow showed that she was getting more infuriated. -I-I don't like this side to her-
-How could he not know? Gerudo is one of the most heavily guarded districts on Hyrule for the one rule that Voe aren't allowed near our territory, and he most certainly does look like a man. The build simply shows that off too well. This must be some elaborate trick, I must always be on guard.- "Oh! W-wait, my front pocket." Ruben gestured his head towards it, to his right he brought out his leg, indicating further that there was something inside. "May I? I promise I mean no harm!" He almost exclaimed defensively, harbouring what little like she had for the boy in that moment, she nodded her head and relaxed her tense arm ever so slightly, still remaining fully in guard. -He sounded unusually desperate... like his life depended on what he wanted to show me.- "Ah, t-thank you si-I mean, Urbosa! "-Thank you?-
"Here!" Through his pocket he fished out the bracelet, sparkling in the sunlight it's gold metals practically radiating the Gerudo atmosphere. "This! I came to give you this!" He steadied his arms, shaking in the slightest as the bracelet stayed secured, being cradled in his two hands. Urbosa lower the sword completely, standing herself up to get a full view of what the boy had so readily pulled out of his pocket. Coming up to Ruben, she peered into his hands and immediately looked back at him, she appeared confused as she pulled the accessory out of his hands swiftly, Ruben finches at the brash action. "You dropped it a few weeks ago when we met eachother first, I was hoping you would have come by... you know, to retrieve it." His voice still shook slightly, she was still examining the bracelet as though it were the most foreign object she had happened upon.
"I don't recall owning such a thing." Ruben felt his heart drop, from both embarrassment and fear. -Oh Hylia, how is it not hers? I-I swear it- she dropped it! how else- what else?! At this rate, I am unable to make her believe anything! She already has some degree of distrust in me how can I-- "The guards..." She mumbled, Ruben, breathing at a pace much more rapid than usual, was pulled out of his panicked trance, uncomfortably awaiting a response in heavy anticipation. "Do you not remember? That day, they followed soon after me, this gem and colour pattern, these are manufactured for guard attire only." Rekindling in the events of that day did well to soothe the atmosphere, allowing for Ruben to finally exhale while the pressure on his throat loosened a bit.
"Y-yeah... I remember." was all he could managed as he slowly fell back into a more comfortable standing position. Before being met face first one more with Urbosa's sword, forced to retreat back to those feeling of doomed he had been relieved from only moments prior.
"Before we get too caught up in the past, I still don't see you as less of an irritating mystery, Ruben." She locked eyes with him, that intimidating state of her's returning and adorning her features once more. -Oh shit.- "You mean to tell me, that you managed to just stumble into a strictly woman only town, and my mother manages to catch sight of you whilst in the palace, and you just happened to be publicly flogged as a result? And then, just as you appear might I add, sand seals run rampant and a fire breaks loose?" She sighed, shaking her head as she diverted her gaze back to Ruben. "Do you see how I am finding it difficult to trust you? Hell, I Barely even know you aside from how you're a stable boy.." He took a terrified step back as he apprehensively nodded his head in a rapid fashion. He stared off to the side, recalling all that she said, trying to make sense with the pieces he was given, thinking he wouldn't find anything in what he said, he stumbled upon something, a reason.
"Woman only..." He muttered slowly to himself, yes it made sense now. -Hah! How could I have been so blind! The town, there was nothing but women in sight! That must be why I was treated the way I was, I was intruding.- With his realisation, he felt a small relief go pass him momentarily, a las, it was enough for him to gain his nerve back a little, for him to steady his mind. However, just as he opened his mouth to speak, another possiable response crossed his mind, a question, and in his briefly felt confidence he couldn't help but blurt it out full face. "Then why did you help me?" With his almost blunt response, Urbosa fell silent. He made a good point in that she practically help what she appeared to think was a stranger.
-He doesn't appear to be acting cocky... Why is it for this question I don't have a plausible answer? Am I acting out of line for the actions I have committed? As my relationship with mother grew somewhat promising, I threw all of that potential away, and for what? To spite her? To- Oh shit...- As she slowly recalled the events over and over in her brain, she came to a more damning realisation, much less a realisation and more a heavy slap of reality. -We kissed... I kissed him.- Involuntarily, she backed away, her steps oddly delayed as she lowered the sword held up to the throat of this boy. -No no no no. Why!? It doesn't exactly help that we are here on this desolate tower with only eachother to keep company!- The lump in her throat rose, guilt invading her system coupled with embarrassment, her cheeks growing flushed with how stupidly intimate her sudden actions were. Ruben too a confused step back too, no knowing what to expect especially with how the events played out up until now. -Why would I kiss him? How could I kiss him?! We just met and now I-I practically forced myself on him whilst he was in a state of distress, what is wrong with me!? I even said myself that we barley know eachother, I don't even know if we could go beyond the title of aquainances, and it doesn't help that I have held a weapon to his throat this entire encounter! All for what, just to demonstrate some infuriating ploy that mother would for to bear witness to?!-
-Wh-what's happening? She seems scared, terrified... is that a tint of pink I see? What was it that she was thinking?-. Despite her distant treatment of him, Ruben felt compelled to juxtapose his previous actions, now taking the shuffling towards her in the smallest movement in an attempt to close the gap. On another note, she could be embarrassed... What could I have said to make her feel this-Unless it's... that.- "Urbosa?" He called out in order to get her attention, her head snapped back up, his voice inviting her to the present once more. Her face upon seeing him grew more red, it only served as a harsh reminder for the girl's deeds.
"I-I... we..." Urbosa inhaled, losing her bearings an alarming amount, given her background It was understandable that she would have never imagined herself in such a situation, let alone prepare for it. With her hormones in a frenzy and her mind only able to focus on the lips on the one in front of her, She shoved past the boy with little grace, followed with a rushed "Excuse me" as she hurried down the ladder which lead to the room below the tower, taking the sword with her.
"H-Hey Urbosa!" Ruben made an attempt to follow after her, but stopped in his tracks. -What happened? Perhaps it would be best right now to grant her some space? She was awfully red... What if she recalled... It must be!- He froze, uncertain was to what course of action he should take, as to how he would confront such such a chaotic memory. -Am I really in the position to be confronting her about this right now? How do I even know for certain that this is what sent her off? We did kiss but it was quite... one sided, how would she feel at all this?- As Ruben found him self in a circle of questions, his brain decided to present something, something that would very much escalate the situation, his dream. He may have recalled but a few pieces, however, it would seem that those were the most significant takeaways of the fragments from that night.
-I'm such a pervert!- And so, a frenzy of his own began, the blushing cheeks, feelings of disgust, they, too came racing through him like a wild fire on a ruthless rampage. His heart rate only rose by the minute, the very fact that it was just him and her at the moment on this quite compact barren structure was enough to send worrisome butterfly's through his stomach. -And then she comes and kisses me... WHY MUST I HAVE HAD THAT DREAM?! WHY MUST I RECALL IT NOW?! This won't do, this won't do! We must confront one another on this sometime soon otherwise we will only remember eachother for the awkward encounters! But no, no! She must know about... that dream. Even if I never see her again, we really must clear the air.- He glaces over at the ladder, tempting as it was to go down it, he simply couldn't bring himself to do such a thing, his nervousness wouldn't allow for him to confront the girl who resided below in fear of being labeled a pervert. -She doesn't even know about the dream you paranoid fool! You were not the one to initiate the kiss either, make it easier on the woman and come to her!-
"Gah! Do it! Go down!" He resorted to slapping his face with both hands, trying to convince himself to talk to her, knowing they most likely didn't have much time left either. "Please, we need to do this now!" He muttered further to himself, it was in his drive to speak to her, it was a very obvious set goal, yet he still sat there heavily anticipating his first step. "Three..." He counted quietly to himself. "Two..." Now, he closed his eyes, as thought that would grant him some form of comfort. "Ah, fuck it..." Abandoning the countdown and every last bit of agitation, he swiftly approached the ladder, gaining a firm and sure grip on its handle as it greeted him with an old creak, his presence was now made known.
And as he progressed further and further down, till he inevitably reached the floor, turned, and saw Urbosa, spying him from the distance as they briefly locked eyes. She now knew he was there, as he shuffled from foot to foot balancing his weight on each as his anxiety towards their socialisation returned, soon followed with regret towards his brash actions.
-She's looking at me...-
-He's looking at me!Why did you have to follow? Well then... say something Urbosa! Now is as good an opportunity as any!- With a rapid heartbeat, she blurted out the first words that her brain could formulate.
"I'm sorry."
