Randall did his best to sleep during the day, peeking his eyes open every now and then to watch over his new friend, currently a statue now. At one point, he ended up crawling down to find them food.
Spying a hot dog cart and turning invisible, Randall quietly snuck up while the guy was busy. Once he turned his back to get his payment from two boys who ordered them, Randall managed to snatch the hot dogs and raced away. The hot dog man went to take them but saw them gone. The boys frowned at him at he grinned nervously, offering to make them another one.
Randall snuck back up the building just in time as the sun was just setting, waiting for Brooklyn to wake up. The sun disappeared, and Brooklyn broke through his stone skin with a roar. Randall stared while eating his food, amazed at what the gargoyle just did. Brooklyn looked around to see that his new lizard friend was still here, with hot dogs.
"Well, figured you would be hungry." Randall said, offering him the other. Brook smiled a bit from this offer of food and took it, beginning to eat too.
The two friends sat in silence for a while just eating their lunch, occasionally making small talk.
"So there used to be more of you? And you were asleep for a thousand years?" Randall asked his new strange friend, who nodded.
"Yeah, but we're limited now; our clan had a big massacre way back before you, but it is a long story and I usually don't like to think about it," Brook said sadly, ears falling. Randall nodded in understanding. Brooklyn told him about his rookery brothers as well as Angela, Goliath's daughter, and Hudson and Bronx.
"Sounds like a good family," Randall murmured after finishing his hot dog. Brooklyn smiled. "They sure are." Randall then got up, knowing he should keep moving.
"I should go, I really don't want to hang around anywhere too long, and I just want to go back home to my world," Randall said, and Brooklyn could see the loneliness in his eyes.
"Wait, maybe you can come with me, just for a while, if you want," Brooklyn said. Randall didn't think much of this, looking away.
"No, I-I shouldn't. They probably won't like me anyway," he mumbled. Brook smiled. "I'm sure they will, as long as they see you're a good person, they'll welcome you," he said. Randall gazed at him, hearing some honesty there. After a time, he agreed, nodding nervously.
"I'm glad you're gonna come! But we'll have to fly from here," Brooklyn said, standing up. Randall's eyes rounded. "F-fly?"
"It's gliding more than anything. But you can close your eyes if you're scared," Brooklyn said, kneeling down for Randall to get on and made sure he was secure.
Randall gulped at the height below, not wanting to fall and hit the ground.
Brooklyn jumped from the balcony. Randall squeezed his eyes shut, holding on tight, feeling his stomach drop from the jump.
"Mind loosening up your hold, Randall?" Brooklyn asked. Randall realized he was holding too tight and did so, getting the courage to open his eyes, too. His eyes brightened at the view of the city this way, never imagining he could be flying like this.
Brooklyn grinned at how Randall was looking while they flew along. "So, what do you think?" he asked. Randall ended up grinning despite still trembling.
"It's not like anything I've experienced before," he said breathlessly while they flew through the buildings until the Eyrie building could be seen.
"Well, we're here," Brooklyn stated as he flew up to the balcony and landed there, seeing the rest of his clan coming back. Randall hid behind Brooklyn, feeling nervous at seeing the rest of Brooklyn's family now, and wondering how they would judge him. Hudson looked up at Brooklyn, who grinned nervously.
"And where have you been, lad?" Hudson asked. Brooklyn shuffled his feet, looking down.
"Uh, been feeling a little bit down lately and just needed time for myself, until I met someone," he explained. Goliath folded his arms.
"Is it a human, Brooklyn?"
He shook his head. "Not quite, and not a gargoyle either." He glanced behind at Randall, who came out from behind his friend, shaking a bit, but waved too. The clan gasped a bit.
"What is he?" Lex asked in surprise at the sight of this lizard creature before them. He was quite a sight indeed with all of his arms, four legs, a tail as long as a gargoyle's, and bright purple skin.
"He calls himself a monster, not as an insult, but an actual species," Brooklyn explained. "His name's Randall and he's been banished from his home."
Randall studied the clan before him, seeing a lot of differences in their appearances, and different colors, too. And only one female was among them who was quite lovely and had a hold on Broadway's arm. He cleared his throat.
"Hi," he greeted shyly. He felt furious at himself for being shy after acting tough recently back at home, but these gargoyles just made him feel nervous.
Hudson walked up to him after seeing him looking nervous, smiling a little. "You don't need to feel afraid, lad. We don't harm the innocent." Randall looked down, not feeling so innocent since the Boo incident, but he didn't want to speak about it yet.
Brooklyn then introduced his clan to Randall and after a bit, Brooklyn didn't feel so intimidated by them anymore. The Second then looked at Goliath.
"Can he stay for a while, Goliath, since he has nowhere else to go?" He asked his leader. Goliath looked at Randall for a bit before nodding.
"As long as Xanatos and Fox approve, he can." Randall once again felt scared about meeting more humans after the others scared him away.
…
He was taken inside and shown to Fox, Xanatos and Elisa. Elisa and Xanatos seemed to like him, but Fox kept giving him a cold stare.
"David, I don't trust this monster around our child. Do you really think he can live with us?" Xanatos gave his wife a confident smile. "If Goliath and the others trust him, I don't see why not," he replied. Fox still didn't like it, but she eventually agreed he could stay.
But before he left to watch the clan turn to stone, Fox pulled Randall aside.
"I'm still going to keep an eye on you, Monster, if you ever hurt or scare my child, there will be big trouble," she said coldly to him. Randall nodded, backing up a bit since Fox seemed rather mistrustful and a bit mean, too. He knew it would take a while to earn her trust more than the others.
Randall then watched his new friends turn to stone, which was an even more impressive sight than just one gargoyle. David led him inside after that.
"Owen can show you to your room, for I have many guest rooms if that satisfies you," he offered. Randall nodded, feeling tired now from his flight here, and followed said person to his new room.
Owen opened the door. "Here's your room… Mr. Boggs," he said, raising his brow while the disguised Fay man studied this creature over. Being magical, Puck had never seen anything like this creature before, and hoped would stay so he can learn more.
Randall looked about his room, which seemed pretty nice, and a comfy bed lay in wait. He yawned again. "Anything else you want, Sir?" Owen asked. Randall shook his head.
"Should be fine for now I think," he said sleepily. "Gonna sleep for a bit from being up for most of the night." Owen nodded, leaving Randall to get settled.
Randall managed to get himself a shower after weeks without one, then settled himself in bed and instantly fell asleep again, wondering what his time here with the gargoyles would do for him now, and hoped he can prove himself among them.
