While the clan was stone for the day, Randall made up his mind to ask Elisa about helping with his vision. He hadn't told the clan about being nearsighted because he didn't want to feel like they needed to watch over him.

Elisa had dropped by when hearing from Xanatos that Randall wanted to talk to her. She came up to him, who was feeling awkward.

"What was it that you wanted to talk to me about, Randall?" Elisa asked. Randall swallowed since he never trusted humans too well and this was his first official hangout with Elisa.

"Well, uh, I wanted to treat my friends to some cupcakes I used to make way back in college, but I haven't made any since college. And it is also hard for me to read recipes without glasses since I used to wear them, but never bothered to because they give me away with my invisibility. Is there any way you can help with that?"

Elisa recalled Hudson's sight incident when Jeffrey Robbins had called up Dr. Stallman to help with his eyes, getting an idea for it.

"I think I have a better option than glasses or contacts. Hudson knows a blind veteran man named Mr. Robbins who had an eye doctor friend in the PIT group. It is a group of gargoyle supporters," she then explained to Randall's confused look. "Her name is Dr. Stallman. Perhaps we can get her to help you."

But Randall felt nervous. "I'm not a gargoyle, Elisa. What makes you think she would help a monster?"

She put a hand on his shoulder. "I know Stallman will be happy to help, gargoyle or not. Hudson gave me her phone number. I'll call her to make an appointment for you." Randall now felt happy about the idea about getting his vision back without glasses. He looked forward to it now.

After night came, Randall got the courage to at least tell Brooklyn about his operation but not about the cupcakes. Brooklyn himself was surprised to learn about his nearsightedness.

"So that is why you seem to squint/glare all the time," Brooklyn stated.

Randall chuckled. "Probably. Dr. Stallman's going to help with it. I'm a little nervous about her reaction to my appearance." Brooklyn smiled a bit. "I'm sure she'll like you if she liked Hudson." Randall felt appreciation from Brooklyn's words. "I will be staying with Elisa until I can see the doctor," he revealed.

"Good luck with it then. We will wait for you until you're done," Brooklyn said with his grin. Randall nodded as he turned to leave with Elisa to her apartment. He never saw her apartment before and was interested in what it would look like.

A couple minutes of driving they got to her home. Elisa hadn't needed to worry about Randall as he used his invisibility and he said he was right behind her.

Elisa guided Randall to her apartment and opened the door for him. He reappeared after she shut the door behind her.

Randall smiled slightly at the apartment. It sort of reminded him of his own, though not as fancy. He heard a meowing; seeing a gray cat on the couch, tilting its head at the sight of him. Elisa smiled at her cat.

"It's alright, Cagney. This is Randall, he's gonna be our guest for a bit." Cagney mewed, coming up nervously to Randall. Randall knelt, holding out his hand carefully for Cagney to sniff. He did, then nuzzled into Randall's hand. Randall chuckled. "Thankfully he seems to like me," he said.

"Probably because of your gargoyle smell," she stated.

Randall was settled in after a while until the time came for him to see Dr. Stallman. Elisa made him meals which he enjoyed, even getting to meet her partner, Matt Bluestone, who was a bit put off at first from him, but Elisa assured Matt he was friends with the gargoyles. Randall enjoyed Matt's personality.

Soon, the day arrived for Randall's eye appointment. Elisa drove him to the clinic, taking him to a private exam room, which was the same as what Hudson had been in. The lizard monster's nerves returned, but Elisa took his hand with a smile, guiding him in and knocking on the door.

The door opened, revealing a middle-aged woman with red hair and glasses. She gasped at the sight of Randall, eyes excited.

"Whoa, I heard about your new friend needing an eye exam, but never expected anything like him!" she said. Randall backed away a little but Stallman saw his nervousness and chuckled assuringly.

"Don't worry, buddy. I like all sorts of unique animals. And you take the cake!" Randall grinned nervously.

"Er, thanks," he said quietly. Elisa sat him down in the checkup room where Cornelia looked him over with the usual eye checkups. She could see some damage in his eyes but it was savable.

Randall breathed a sigh when it was over while she wrote the diagnostics down. "Your eyes appear to be in good condition but only your primary vision isn't in good shape. We will need to do a minor eye surgery to help you see well again." This made him flinch at the idea of surgery. That meant anesthesia and he hated that stuff.

"Don't worry, Randall. You'll only be out for a small amount of time. You won't even remember the surgery," Elisa assured him. Randall swallowed but he then nodded. If it was the only way without the use of glasses then he could try it.

Stallman helped him get settled into the bed after preparing the next day for it. He was unable to eat beforehand. She showed him the anesthesia options. "Mask or needle?"

Randall instantly shook his head on the mask. Stallman smiled a little but gave him a comforting rub on his arm before wiping a spot in his elbow on his upper arm since he had eight of them, injecting the needle then. Elisa couldn't be there but she told Randall good luck.

Stallman instructed Randall that counting down usually helped with the anesthesia so he did, eyes fluttering until he was out upon reaching five. It took a good long hour but Cornelia with her assistant, Dr. Carry Benjamin, worked as carefully as she could on her patient, Elisa waiting outside.

After a time, Elisa was allowed in when Stallman was done. Randall now had a cloth around his eyes until he could take it off. She took one of his hands, which still fascinated her that Randall had eight hands. Randall slowly stirred.

"Randall? It's all over." Elisa said gently. Randall opened his eyes but saw darkness, which began to make him stressed and confused.

"E-lisa? M'I blind?" He mumbled groggily, still trying to wake up.

Stallman shook her head. "No, your eyes are merely recovering. But you can see again, Randall. Congratulations!" Randall sleepily smiled. "T-thank you, Doc," he replied, Elisa helping him to sit up.

Randall was grateful that his operation worked and was anxious to get this cloth off his eyes. Elisa offered him to continue to stay at her home until he took off the healing cloth. Randall had no objections, happy to be with Elisa to get to know her better.

He took unsteady steps, but Stallman and Elisa helped Randall walk until they got a wheelchair.

"It was a pleasure to assist you, Mr. Boggs. You were the next coolest thing I got to see tonight!" Stallman said with a smile. Randall nodded though he couldn't see her, Elisa wheeling him out of the eye clinic. When getting to the car, she put Randall in the front seat and placed the wheelchair in the back, driving home.

Elisa used a coat this time to get Randall up to her apartment this time. He settled into her apartment again, having him down on the couch. Randall was looking forward to taking this cloth off him in a couple days. But was happy she helped his sight.

"Uh, Elisa, just wanna say thanks. I had glasses my whole life but didn't think it was possible to fully restore my vision," Randall said awkwardly, with a little smile. He felt her hand on his shoulder.

"It's what friends do for each other," she said. Randall gazed down.

"Didn't have any friends since my college days until I met Brooklyn," Randall stated sadly. "I used to have one, but he left me." A small yawn came. Elisa felt sorry for him.

"At least you have friends here now, Randall. Friends always look out for each other." Randall's heart felt light, never thinking he could have human friends and gargoyle friends in general. But he was glad.
