It was another week since Randall had been poisoned but was now back on his feet again. Many events had occurred since his recovery, mostly of him helping the clan with the Quarrymen. But sadly, Fox hadn't been able to trust him enough yet.

He was looking out at the city, wondering how he could earn her trust when Lex came along. Randall jumped slightly from the appearance of him but settled with a smile.

"Hey, Lex," he said. The olive gargoyle nodded. Him and Randall weren't as close friends as Randall was with Brooklyn but he liked showing Randall his electronics.

"What's up?" he asked.

The purple lizard's fronds lowered. "I just wish I could find a way to earn Fox's trust. She always pushes me away even if Alex likes me."

Lexington felt pity but knew he couldn't stay long. "Me, Goliath, Broadway, and Brooklyn are about to head out for patrol, and I'm offering you and Angela a chance to look after Alex while we're gone. Maybe Fox would trust you more if there's two of you there that have Alex's best interests besides mine. Angela knows hatchlings, she can help you."

Randall was somewhat stunned by this offer. "But, will you guys be ok without me?" he asked in worry. Lex nodded.

"Not a problem. I'm sure Brook will have some kind of story for you when he gets back. Just ensure Alex doesn't fall off the battlements," he joked. Randall snickered, smiling slightly. "Well, uh, good luck out there. Should probably see Angela soon and go to Alex," he said.

Lex nodded. "You too. Got to head out now but we'll see you later," he said.

The lizard monster watched Lex join the others coming out, not knowing how much danger they were going to be in soon, wandering back in after they all left.

He then peeked into the crib after reaching Alex's room, glad that Fox wasn't there since she and David had work business to do. Alex cooed up at Randall.

"Er, hi, little guy," Randall said nervously, reaching with his hand and Alex took it in his baby hands. Angela smiled at the moment before her. "He really seems to like you," she said.

Randall nodded but frowned. "I just wish Fox would think the same. I think she just flat out hates me," he stated with a frown.

Angela shook her head. "Don't think like that, Randall. You know trust takes time." Randall looked at her in worry. "But what if it never happens?" He asked.

Angela took his hand. "Then Lex and I will help," she responded. That made Randall feel a little better and then the two continued their time with Alex.

….

Meanwhile, Jon Castaway was looking at photos of the monster his men encountered. It certainly was no gargoyle hence the no wings and many legs. He wanted to meet this one for himself. Jon turned to Ben, who was the one who took the photos.

"My loyal soldier, I have a task for you; scan the castle if the lizard is alone in there. And if he is; report to me so that I can take my men and all of us will strike when the clan isn't there."

Ben nodded, smirking sadistically before turning to leave on his jetpack. Castaway narrowed his eyes, looking forward to eventually confronting that so-called talking lizard himself.

Meanwhile, back at the Eyrie Building, Randall and Angela began their task of babysitting. Angela did the feeding while Randall tried his best to be a good companion to the little human. Alex constantly tried to go for his tail though, which bugged him but knew he was just a child, hoping his parents won't be gone for too long. He didn't know at that moment Ben had arrived in stealth mode; a camera in his hands while he videotaped Randall and Angela in there with Xanatos' child, but nobody else was there. As Castaway hoped… Thought Ben smugly, finishing his filming and going to let Castaway know.

Angela had finished feeding Alex then who was looking tired. Randall took him in his arms. "Guess he's ready for bed," he chuckled softly, poking Alex's nose gently and making the kid laugh. Maybe making kids laugh was better than making them cry, Randall decided quietly to himself when placing the kid into his crib.

Castaway narrowed his eyes as he and his group charged to the castle, intent on disturbing Randall and Angela's peace and to see how good that lizard really was at fighting. Randall was just sitting in his chair when suddenly a gunshot was heard, nearly missing him.

"Randall! Look out!" Angela yelled and taking the shot, hitting her left side. She grunted in pain, collapsing to the ground. Randall's fronds jerked upward, eyes drawn to the commotion of those familiar Quarrymen on jetpacks, holding their hammers and guns. Alex began crying. Jon smirked when hearing the baby.

"Aw, did I wake the brat? My 'apologies'," he taunted mirthlessly, making Randall snarl in fury, getting into a battle stance.

"Look, you'd better not mess with us. Goliath and his clan should be here anytime!" He roared, skin changing to red in anger that they had the gall to attack while defenses were limited and angry. They had hurt Angela. Angela was weakly lying there, trying to stem the flow of blood, hoping Randall could hold them off.

Castaway sneered. "Oh, I only wanted you, Lizard. My men spoke of their encounter with you, non-gargoyle freak, and I challenge you to a one on one. If not, then…" he landed, taking Alex out of his bed.

Angela shook her head, raising her other hand while Randall's eyes widened in fear. He never felt this worried for a human child's safety before, but now Alex's life rested on his shoulders. He then folded his arms, swishing his tail. "Ok, you have your way, Castaway. Just put the kid down," he said. Jon nodded, placing Alex in the crib, taking his hammer out.

"Hope you're ready, or the little tyke will soon see the other side," mocked Jon, Randall getting more angry and battle hungry to kick his backside.

He gazed back at Angela, who gave him a scared look. "Don't let him win," she whispered faintly, head now lying on the floor.

Randall nodded, as Jon suddenly charged him, swinging his hammer. It got him in the side, Randall yelping in pain from the electric surges stinging his body, falling to the floor, panting. Jon raised it again, but Randall was ready this time, using his tail to grab the handle, jerking it out of his hands.

Jon was somewhat startled this thing could use its tail like the gargoyles but didn't let it disturb him, sending a hard kick near Randall's way as Randall leapt to his feet, dodging this time, slithering around him, slamming his shoulder into Castaway's back, the man falling winded. Randall took this chance to be invisible, then crawling on the walls. Jon growled when getting up. Of course the cloaking thing ended up being true. He picked up his hammer.

"Come out, freak among the gargoyles! You really think you can be like them? I think not. You hide in the shadows like a normal monster. But I have to commend you, you do have the spunk!" He shot lightning in one direction, hitting the wall near him. Randall had been there but instantly ducked it, heart beating wildly. He hoped the clan would come home soon.

More lightning shot his way, having Randall feel like he was losing focus on his camo ability until finally, he yelped when a surge struck his skin again, falling off the wall, panting. Jon smirked triumphantly; knowing for certain he won now.

Randall though, growled. "Not… done… yet…" He huffed, pushing himself to his feet, charging again, tackling that horrid man to the ground, biting his arm this time. Jon shouted out, but the teeth hardly poked through his armor. He wrestled under the brute lizard for a few minutes, punching and pushing him until eventually he called his men. Randall's fronds shot up again when feeling the men grab him hard, yanking him off roughly.

"Ah!" He shouted in pain from a muscle being pulled. One of the men used their still off hammer to next ram it into Randall's lower leg he stood on. Randall let loose a loud shriek from it, leg firing up in pain. Castaway glanced at the scratches from Randall's teeth on his armor, eyes under the hood narrowed hard. He then backhanded Randall roughly. Randall trembled painfully, knowing he lost. Jon used his hammer to hold up the freak's chin.

"I warned you, Lizard! No one messes with my men! Consider this a message," he spat, now going towards the crib. He held Alex, who was crying and squirming in his hold. "And now the kid will pay the price!" He snarled in an insane manner.

Randall's eyes flashed. "NO! LEAVE HIM ALONE!" He screamed, struggling but hissed in pain. Jon just shook his head and was about to move his hand towards the kid's throat when suddenly, the men all yelped out as huge gargoyle roars echoed. It was the clan!

Randall sighed in relief, the men letting him go and turning to fight Goliath, Brooklyn, and the others. Xanatos was there too in his armor, looking enraged at seeing Jon holding his child.

"Jon Castaway, I order you to give me and Fox my son and let Randall and Angela go!" He stormed while Brooklyn came up to Randall, who was weak and shaking from the fight.

"Are you ok?" he asked, Broadway going over to his mate as well, who was unconscious, holding her in his arms. Randall nodded but felt dizzy, now leaning on the Second's shoulder. "I'll live…" He croaked as Castaway saw he was cornered. Goliath's eyes were white.

"Let the child go," he ordered again, David and Fox pointing their guns, Alex wailing. Randall suddenly had an idea. He whispered to Brooklyn, whose eyes widened but nodded, going along with it. Randall turned invisible while everyone was distracted, sneaking around close to Castaway, who wasn't caving into threats anytime soon.

Randall knew this was the only way he could earn more of their trust. Soon, Randall pinpointed his sights on being able to yank Alex from Castaway. He did just that like with Boo when Sulley held her, holding Alex close in his arms, using his camo to turn him invisible too.

Castaway growled. "I won't be swayed by all your pathetic bribes and threats! I-!" He looked down in his arms, but the brat was missing! Randall appeared right then and there, smiling tauntingly, but limping, holding Alex in his arms.

"Were you looking for this?" he asked. Jon's eyes widened in alarm and then anger. Fox had gasped in relief, Randall handing her her son. She hugged him tight, Randall smiling at the scene. She smiled back at him.

The Quarrymen knew then they had lost, Castaway ordering a retreat. He growled at Randall, who stood in a stance near his new clan, willing to defend it with all he had again. "Should I ever see you again, Lizard, I'll kill you right on the spot!" roared Jon Castaway, igniting his jet pack and flying away. Hudson and Lex ran forward but couldn't catch up in time.

Goliath sighed. At least Castaway was gone. He could see Fox keeping Alex close to her, and Broadway helping Angela to the medic ward. He then turned to Randall, who was being supported by Brooklyn again.

"Randall, you defended the castle and kept my daughter from being hurt further, and ensured Alex was safe. That earns more of my respect," the lavender leader stated, a smile on his face. "It proves you are kind, brave, and honest enough to still be one of us."

Randall's fronds lowered a little from it, but he smiled too, though it looked weak. He knew deep inside he wasn't honest, and his dark past threatened again to come out. But he didn't want to keep lying to them about it. Whenever the time would come, he would tell, even if it meant facing consequences. Fox next came up to Randall too.

"Randall, I owe you my son's life. And I'm sorry for ever being cruel to you," she said in a grateful voice. Randall never got this praise from someone who hated him, making him go red, blushing. "Uh, thank you, Fox. It is my duty to protect, and I will." he said, quoting a line he heard from Hudson and Goliath, the rest of the uninjured clan giving him praise as well, having him sigh softly.
