'...Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'

Flipping himself over the bed, Kenji laid upside down an empty look in his eyes, his gaze was glued to the floor thinking of nothing particular. It was days like these that he hated, being bored in a magic school wasn't something that happened often.

"I'm so bored..." Kenji murmured aloud to no one in particular.

As he hung his head of the bedside, the green crystal that hung around his neck spilled out hitting him in the nose before hanging in front of his face, 'Oh right, with everything going on I've totally forgotten about this.'

'Back when we got sent into that book, I used magic didn't I? Wonder if it was the crystal or just the book?'

"Wait why the hell haven't I tested that out yet?" He questioned accidently falling face first onto the floor.

Suddenly, a loud thumping noise approached his room a foot kicked his door down, "Kenji! Stop wallowing in here doing nothing it's time to do some broom training, I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it!" Akko grinned standing above him.

'For all things holy, I mustn't look up'

"She lying Kenji she fell of a bench and thinks she's learnt how to fly," Sucy put in her head popping from around the corner.

Luckily, Akko jumped back to aggressively combat Sucy's comment. Kenji sighed in relief, slumping back over his bed tucking the crystal back under his shirt, he subconsciously avoided eye contact with Akko.

"Kenji are you listening?" Akko questioned yet again, this time get up close into his personal space.

Suddenly, Kenji jumped back his face bright red, 'She was too close, but I why'd I get so embarrassed so quickly?'

Then he remembered.

'Oh right, I realized that I liked her probably to do something about that...'

It had almost been a week since the entire Cupid Bee incident and Kenji had done absolutely nothing about his new found feelings.

Well other than acting like a complete mess, he was honestly surprised no one had called him out on his weird behaviour. He'd never really liked a girl properly before so he had no idea how he should behave.

But something was telling him that this wasn't the right way.

"W-What? Y-Yeah I'm listening, you said something about broom training," He stuttered straightening out his blankets.

"Wow your rooms really dull Kenji ever think about changing it?" Akko questioned having already moved onto the next topic.

Kenji flicked her in the forehead albeit a bit hesitantly, 'Just act normal...'

"What would be the point in decorating...I don't have any of my belonging and I'm not staying," Kenji grumbled a still prominent redness over his face.

Akko frowned slightly at that, deciding to drag her fellow brunette out of the room with her heading over to the field, "C'mon enough moping from you I'm finally going to ride a broom!"

"I highly doubt that," He heard Sucy whisper further down the hallway.

"H-Hey Akko y-your kinda tugging on my hand.." Kenji murmured not loud enough for her one-focused mindset. He didn't stop her tugging him outside to the field. he thought there was some sort of class going on but the area was empty.

He was completely unaware of how the broom classes went, ever since his first lesson he'd been allowed to excuse himself from the lessons, it'd be pointless for someone with no magic to try to fly.

'Well at least Akko's trying outside of class..'

"This gonna go badly isn't it," Kenji asked out loud.

"Obviously, quick Kenji give me your phone I should record this.." Sucy spoke up rummaging around in his pockets.

Glaring back at her, Kenji swatted her hand away straightening his loose shirt. It was clearly something one of the worker goblins had worn previously and had given up so he would have another form of clothing.

'I definitely don't want to ruin my favourite hoodie here..'

"I left it back in my room, besides Akko's trying at least shouldn't you give her a break?"

"Kenji does have a point, todays a free day and Akko hasn't even suggested going into town," Lotte added.

Sucy only grunted as a response, turning to the red-eyed brunette. She was repeatedly hopping up and down on the spot trying to get some semblance of flight off the ground, "Fine, I'll lay off her for now, but that just means I'll be directing all of my attention on you Kenji, that's for spoiling Akko so much!" Her sharp-toothed teeth grinned.

'...This is fine, I just have to keep her potions away from me'

"And I don't spoil her.." He accidently spoke his thoughts.

"Oh, you definitely do, don't try to deny it."

'...Do I? Really?'

From the corner of his eye, Kenji saw Amanda, Jasminka and Constanze approaching them. Well, it was more likely Akko, but they were walking towards the group nonetheless.

"Hey! What're you guys all doing out here?" Amanda boomed trotting over to Akko who was still empathetically hopping up and down.

"We're watching Akko jump up and down on a broom, something she would call flying one," Sucy dryly remarked forcing Kenji to stifle a laugh catching Akko side-lining him a certain glare in her crimson eyes.

Jasminka hummed in reply once again handing the group some crisps, Kenji happily took them nodding to her, "Sup'...its Constanze isn't it? Nice to meet you," Kenji introduced, the small girl silently shook his hand going back to working the small drone in her hands.

'...I don't think I've actually heard her speak before'

"Stop being mean Sucy! I'll fly a broom trust me I will!" Akko insisted stomping her foot accidently tripping over her broom landing with a thump on the ground.

"Akko it's not that hard.." Amanda snatched the broom from the floor already floating up with it, "...You say the spell and visualize flying, that's about it."

"I know that much...it just's too difficult," A loud groan escaped her lips hanging her head back, "Why can everyone else fly a broom but me."

Amanda patted her shoulder sympathetically, Kenji made direct eye contact with her watching her brain shuffle a plan within a couple of seconds a devilish smile twisting over her face.

'...I just know I'm about to picked on'

"Don't say that Akko, Kenji can't!"

'There it is'

A small glimmer of hope appeared in Akko's eyes; she immediately turned her entire to him. Seeming to forget the fact that he was from another a world and incapable of performing magic so it technically didn't count.

But she was too focused to care.

"That's right you can't do it either right Kenji, at least that was on the first day try it now!" She demanded not even trying to ask.

"What'll that change," Amanda and Sucy said in unison.

Kenji, not in the mood to argue with her persistent argument put one leg over the broom standing there with a dry expression that Sucy couldn't help but find amusing, "See I'm on it and nothing happening, did you expect me to fly or something?"

Akko suddenly flipped in front of him sitting on the brush edge of the broom, her face only a couple centimetres away from his, "At least so the spell.." She pouted.

'A-Ahhh personal space women!'

With a begrudging yet defeated flushed face Kenji opened his mouth, "Tia Freyre..." He said with almost no emotion.

He was about to get off having proved his point when the crystal around his neck glowed a bright green, "Wait what's happeni-"

Wind rushed through Kenji's face flapping against his cheeks so hard that they were pulling up against his gums. Not a minute before he'd said the spell, and the broom had zoomed up into the air, with his pour soul gripping onto it for dear life.

'...What the hell!? What happened why is it flying, the only broom I've ever been on before was the shooting star and I had no control over that!'

Pulling back towards the ground, the sheer pressure of the wind pushing against it was the crystal, the only thing stopping it from falling down was the string held around his neck.

It was still glowing a bright green.

'..That must be it, so I can do magic. How nice of it to demonstrate with a broom!'

Finally looking back, Kenji almost screamed as he smashed through a classroom window flying just above some students barging straight through the door zipping around the school's hallway.

He continued swerving doing his best to stop the broom before it could dent itself into a wall, 'Don't die, don't die, don't die!'

The broom kept up its speed showing no signs of stopping as it dived down the stairwell to the second floor, barely dodging a student's head almost taking it clean off if Kenji hadn't forced it sideways.

'HOW DO I STOP IT!'

Luckily, the crystal began to lose its glow slowly dropping the broom closer and closer to the ground skidding it against the marble sending Kenji smashing into the nearby table.

'...Dammit' He grunted rubbing the bump already forming on his head.

Not to soon after, Akko, Sucy and everyone else appeared. Kenji could only guess that they'd been following his path of destruction, that or he'd been on the floor for a lot longer than he'd originally thought.

The most worried was Akko, who was kneeling down beside him calling out his name, even Sucy had a concerned expression.

Miss Ursula and Finnelan soon turned the corner both of them wearing even more shocked expressions, "What on earth is going on here!?" The latter exclaimed.

'...That's what I'd like to kno-'

His vision blurry, Kenji lifted his head up groggily glancing around the room, he could the silhouettes of what looked like Akko and Miss Finnelan, "...Quiet ladies he's awake," Miss Holbrooke intervened hushing them.

"...Uh where am I? Who am I? Why am-"

"You know the answers to two of those questions Kenji, don't be an idiot," Sucy spoke up also in the room, "And to answer your actual question, we're in the headmistress's office..."

"Thanks for the information, although why am I here shouldn't I be in the infirmary my heads aching.." Kenji groaned sloppily picking himself up stumbling forward getting a stern look from Akko.

Miss Finnelan didn't waste any time strutting forward glaring daggers at Kenji, "So, Mr. Otsuka care to explain why and how you were able to fly a broom?" She wasn't even trying to hide her suspicious tone.

'...This is bad'

"Look, before you label me as some sort of spy, this is the reason."

Pulling down his shirt, Kenji revealed the crystal off to the teachers, Miss Ursula faked a surprised expression having already seen it a few weeks prior. Miss Holbrooke studied the crystal in the short time Kenji showed it off.

He put back underneath his shirt, "I found this at the Fountain of Polaris, well more like it was given to me but still...I've been finding more and more clues about how to get home, the last clue I've got is some map that I have no way to follow right now..." He explained showing off the picture of it.

"As for the magic part, that only just happened a couple minutes ago. I haven't tried to perform any spells so maybe that's why it hasn't worked, trust me I'm just as confused as you are this shouldn't be able perform magic.."

Akko listened to his explanation, she didn't want to feel annoyed but the sour taste in her throat wouldn't stop.

"I see.." Miss Finnelan nodded actually feeling bad for suspected him to quickly, "I suppose that does make a lot of sense, although it is still very confusing on how this is all possible."

Holbrooke sympathetically patted her on the back, "Well, I think after his time here, Mr. Otsuka had definitely shown himself to be no ordinary student, even if he is from another world."

"Thanks, I'll take any compliment I can get at this point," Kenji thanked awkwardly.

"Be that as it may, we can't have another incident like today, not only have you damaged a lot of school property but you could've very nearly gotten yourself killed having magic that isn't controlled is very dangerous.." Miss Holbrooke said.

'...Guess she's right, although it kind of sucks that I could've done magic since the whole fountain incident...'

"I could help!" Ursula exclaimed a bit too loudly.

Kenji raised an eyebrow all the same, he trusted Ursula's teaching, her lesson were interesting enough. She seemed just a bit too on edge and clusty to teach someone from another world about magic that even the headmistress didn't even understand.

Miss Finnelan seemed to share the same idea eyeing the teacher suspiciously, "Are you sure you can handle this Ursula, this is a very serious matter if Mr. Otsuka's magic isn't properly managed he could get himself killed."

'Huh...I thought she'd say something about disrupting the schoo-'

"That and we hand to cancel six classes because of the damage he caused we can't have something like that happen again," She clicked her teeth in annoyance complaining once again.

'There it is...'

"Trust me I wouldn't volunteer if I didn't think I was capable!" Ursula insisted pulling a determined face that was weirdly similar to Akko's.

"Well..." Kenji paused outstretching his hand to the blue-haired teacher, "...I guess I'll be in your care Miss Ursula."

"This should be an interesting class..." Kenji dryly spoke up.

"Yeah, it will, with Miss Ursula teaching us," Another voice replied peppily.

"I wonder what I'll learn involving my own magic..." He said now sounded a tad bit more annoyed.

"Dunno, it'll probably be hard though," They responded again.

A vein almost popped on Kenji's forehead, he turned to the stranger sat beside him, "T-Then why the hell are you here Akko!?" He tried to sound angry but all the came out was an embarrassed shout.

With a still indifferent look on her face, she tilted her head in a confused manner, Kenji had to force himself from saying his thoughts aloud, "What do you mean, I take classes with her as well why wouldn't I be here?"

"Because...this is a class about me learning magic from this!" Kenji dangled the crystal in her face he wanted to get closer to further his point but his was pushed back into his own seat from his embarrassment.

'I'm a mess, I can't even get close to her without getting embarrassed'

"W-Well I want to see what kind of magic you can perform...yeah that's right my magic's been improving lately so I want to see how bad you are," Akko lied clearly having just come up with it on the spot.

'I seriously like this girl?'

Suddenly, Ursula stormed into the room, carrying a pile of paper in her hands panting constantly, "S-Sorry I'm late...Miss Finnelan gave me a lecture on how I should teach the lesson, it ran on for a little while..." She apologized leaning over her desk in exhaustion.

'...I'm beginning to feel worried about how this lesson is going to go'

"Alright, Kenji let's begin- huh wait how come you're here Akko?"

Giving her a smug look on the other end of the table, Kenji pulled out his crystal ignoring the pouty look Akko was giving him, 'Don't think she's cute, don't think she's cute!'

"She said she wants to watch how well I can perform magic, although I think she just wants an ego boost since her magical prowess hasn't been going all too well.." That retort earned Kenji a quick punch to the arm.

"Well let's get started then, shall we?" Ursula requested.

"Alright! So, what're we doing to test out my magic first?"

Gesturing over to the objects she'd laid out on the front desk, Ursula handed him a wand, "Try to levitate some of those objects, go from the lightest to heaviest don't worry if you can't do any..."

'...But what spell do I say?'

Seeing the blank look on his face, Ursula turned bright red, "O-O-Oh right I'm sorry I forget to tell you what to say, just flick your wand up and say, "Wingar-"

(Sorry I actually couldn't resist)

"-And say Telio Haeri."

Taking a second to compose himself, Kenji held the sword out in front of him memorizing the spell over and over again in his head. The crystal hadn't started glowing yet so he assumused he'd have to say the spell for anything to happen.

Akko leaped onto Kenji holding onto his shoulders, "C'mon Kenji! Hurry up and do it I wanna see if your good or not?" His face erupted redder than it ever had before, a soft feeling planted onto his back causing him to leap forward from shock.

"Woah, Kenji why'd you make me fall like that?"

'Because of you, why have you always got to do something like that I'm a guy you know...'

He didn't respond, hanging his head as he returned to in front of the desk, 'Just focus, make it work'

"Telio Haeri," He repeated the incantation. Only the crystal glowed a bright green, the wand in his his right hand didn't react one bit, Akko waited in anticipation a feeling of guilt and relief washing over her.

"Nothing happen-"

Once again, Kenji was cut off as his entire body levitated up into the air smacking him against the roof of the classroom, he swore he could his back creak slightly. He attempted to kick himself back down but it only continued to make him float sinking further into the ceiling.

'Wait what'll happen if I go through the roof?'

"Um...I'd like to get down now! You know before I float off higher into the atmosphere!?"

"S-Sorry yes I'll cancel the spell now," Ursula stammered aiming her wand up at him, "Jestu Keltin."

Muttering a dispel incantation, a sudden thought arose, 'Wait how am I gonna get down?'

He had no time to ask the question aloud, the green crystal dimming in glow dropping him back down to the floor, "Akko move out of the way!" Kenji yelled flailing his arms about.

Akko didn't move though her arms stretched out ready to catch him, "Don't worry Kenji I'll catch you!" As she moved back to have a better chance of reaching him, she tripped and fell backwards second before he reached the ground.

Kenji landed straight on top of her, "...Akko I told you to move...are you alright," He paused slightly realizing where his head was resting.

'Oh, come on why does fate have to do this to me...'

Just like him, Akko wore a painted red on her face, "G-G-Get off me Kenji!" She screeched shoving him upwards.

Ursula intervened placing a hand on both of their shoulders, "Let's continued onto the next spell, this one seemed to work but now how we thought.."

"I think most of it came from the crystal...the wand didn't react at all," Kenji explained suddenly feeling tired.

'...Although it does take a lot out of me'

He eyed Akko, before snapping them back to the floor before she could even see him, 'C'mon, at least make eye contact with her can I not even do that now?'

What he didn't see, was Akko staring directly at the crystal balled up in his left hand. She clenched her fist subconsciously biting the inside of his cheek out of frustration.

Her mind was already working out a plan. It wasn't fair that he was already able to perform a spell that let him float to the ceiling, she could barely use it on a book. So as Akko watched him try out another spell, she couldn't take her eyes off the crystal.

A few hours afterwards, Kenji lay unconscious on his bed completely exhausted from not only the failed attempts of trying to cast the correct spells, but from the constant embarrassment he'd sustained from Akko.

They'd been at it for a fairly long while, so by the time Kenji had slumped onto the bed the sun was already starting to peak over the horizon, not that he could see it.

'...I'll at least get some sleep, to take my mind off everything'

The second he laid on the bed, Kenji fell fast asleep not noticing the figure steadily approaching his bed.

Akko didn't bother to wait a while before sneaking into his bedroom, she made sure not to trip across any object that had been slung across the rooms floor. She stopped in a place once she saw Kenji restlessly moving about in his bed.

"Mmm...dammit Akko," She heard him mumble.

'H-He just said my name, didn't he?'

"Why do I...have to act so weird," Kenji mumbled again.

Akko could feel the heat rushing to her face, she didn't know what he was talking about, but that didn't make her anymore embarrassed.

'No, that's not why I'm here, I just want to see if I can do some magic'

Awkwardly pulling up the collar of Kenji's shirt she passed the string over his head, gently taking the crystal into her own hands, "Sorry about this Kenji, I'll give it back... it's just not fair that you can do magic better than I can now, it must be the crystal!" She whispers yelled tip-toeing out of the room.

Soon, she made it back outside to the familiar garden area pulling the tied-up crystal from her pocket, '...So I just have to say a spell and it should work? That's what Kenji did at least, even if it doesn't work properly, I'll still have some magic!'

She aimed the crystal to nowhere in particular incanting the only spell she could think of, "Metamorphie Faciesse!"

As she yelled, the crystal seemed to have a reaction to her, lighting up not only itself but the wand that was strapped around her waist, 'W-Wait this shouldn't be what happens..'

All of sudden, a bright ray shot out from the crystal streaking over to several plants and trees leaving a green hue around them, "Uh oh, that can't be good." Akko commented her legs growing shaky.

The tree's roots began to spurt out from the ground growing larger and larger in size almost towering over the school's main building. It had now grown arms and was moving around with spider like legs.

Three tree's stood tall, two dark green eyes cracking through their barks setting their sights straight towards Akko, "Food..." It muttered deeply drunkenly walking towards her, soon quickening its pace.

"FOOD!" It yelled out once more.

'What did I do!?'

BAM!

BOOM!

Kenji jolted upwards falling head first of his bed, there was no backboard to stop him from tumbling to the door of his bedroom, "...What the hell, what was that sound?" Glancing at his window in a daze, he swung it open staring bug-eyed at what he could see.

Outside, roaring on the grass was what looked like a roaring tree. It seemed like it had its eyes set on someone, but it was still too dark to tell even with the sun shining slightly.

As he went to leave, Kenji felt his neck feeling lighter, he patted his shirt and looked under it, the crystal had disappeared completely.

'...Oh come on, with how things are looking those trees might be because of my magic'

Not wasting any more time, Kenji darted out his window on through the small bramble bush below.

'It's good that my rooms on the first floor..'

No one else had noticed, which was honestly surprising since it wasn't exactly being subtly about its appearance, "Guess Luna Nova's a school of deep sleepers.." Kenji laughed dryly finally catching up to the tree.

'The old me would've been exhausted, but this is basically a morning workout for me'

"I'm not food leave me alone!" An all too familiar voice yelled.

Kenji followed it, deadpanning as he saw Akko sprinting away from the giant tree following after her, "...Akko why the hell are you out here!?" He exclaimed catching her attention.

"O-O-Oh Kenji fancy meeting you here..."

In her hands, Kenji spotted the green crystal balled up, "It was you! You used the magic on these trees didn't you!" He accused.

"I-I-I might have. B-B-But it wasn't on purpose I just wanted to see if it could help my magic since you were able to use it on the first try.." Her whole demeanour sank a little as she finished her explanation.

'Again, with the magic thing..'

Kenji sighed putting his face into his hand, "Akko, why do you always do this. You keep thinking you need to get better at magic and you do, but don't act like your bad at it, since I've met you, you've really improved so just take it one step at a time ok?"

'Hey, I held a conversation with her without getting embarrassed'

Just as he had the thought, he flushed red at what he'd said, 'Ah there it is..'

Before Akko could reply the giant tree had finally caught up to them wrapping their roots around Akko throwing her up into the air holding her just above their drooling mouths, "FOOD!" They all groaned.

"Akko!" Kenji yelled a panicked look on his face.

'What do I do what do I do!?'

"KENJI!" Akko struggled against the roots dropping the green crystal in her hand, "Use it, I know you'll come up with something.."

As the crystal dropped into his hands, Kenji grimaced at his thought, 'Let's hope this doesn't kill me..'

"Telio Haeri..." He murmured the crystal glowing a bright green around.

He waited a few seconds before bending his knees leaping upwards, the levitation carried him at a fast speed, if he didn't time it correctly, he'd float off into the atmosphere.

'Shit, shit, shit I can't stop flailing about!'

Just as he was about to pass over the monstrous trees, Kenji grappled his hand round the outstretched branches at the head of the stump catching himself.

"I'm not dead!" Kenji let out a sigh of relief.

"I'm about to be, help me!?" Akko squealed trying to pull herself free.

Stretching his hand out, Kenji held her hand tightly attempting to pull her free, 'Dammit is my hand too sweaty?'

He shook his head pulling Akko close towards his chest, almost pushing her back, 'NOT the time to be getting embarrassed Kenji!' He mentally scolded himself.

Akko blushed deeply as she gripped onto his shirt tightly, not wanting to let go, "Akko what spell did you use to make them like this?" Kenji questioned holding the crystal above its mouth.

Once she told him he gave a firm nod a bright green hue emanating over him, " Metamorphie Faciesse!" Kenji announced shining it down the trees mouth.

The tree began to howl out in pain shrinking in size. The crystal let out one last burst of energy transforming it back to normal slumping the two on top of each other.

It didn't take long for him to notice, 'S-She's so close..'. He went to move her, but his blush subsided and he laid back against the ground

'I can't keep acting so embarrassed all the time, it's stupid I may like her but we're still friends'

'Besides I'll have to go home, there's no point in getting close with her...I should just let it go'

"Hey Kenji..." Akko caught his attention scrunching her legs up, having now gotten off of him her head buried in her knees, "About what you said...thanks, you're always telling me that I'm fine not being good with magic, I guess I didn't listen until now." She apologized sheepishly a cute laugh escaping her lips.

"I-It's f-fine...your fine just the way you are Akko with or without magic being an airhead just doesn't let you comprehend what I say as easily," That comment earned him another punch to his arm.

Once he finally looked back at her, he immediately glanced away.

She was smiling back at him with a toothy grin, a small blush dusted across her face, '...These feelings, might be a little harder to let go of'
