Chapter 3
Elena
Gym finally came to an end, and I meet up with Bonnie, following her to the cafeteria. I stand in line and look at the options. I pick up a tray and place a water bottle onto it. I reach for a prepared salad and grab an apple. I follow Bonnie up to the cashier and pay for my meal.
We make it towards the far right of the cafeteria and Bonnie sits down at a table. Already sitting in Caroline, Tyler, Matt, another blonde girl and Damon. The guys are flicking a folded piece of paper back and forth; laughter filling the space.
"Take a seat," Bonnie says pulling out the chair between her and the black-haired girl.
I smile and place my tray on the table. I sit down and the girl from beside me introduces herself.
"Hey, I'm Rebekah," she says sipping on her milk.
"Hi. I'm Elena." I say opening my prepared salad.
"What's the plan for tonight?" Tyler asks Caroline.
"Same as usual," she says looking to him.
"What do you have planned after school?" Bonnie asks as I eat my salad.
"I need to go over to Mystic Medical. I start my internship there today." I tell her.
"Internship?" Rebekah asks. "What are you doing that for?"
"Learning about the medical system mostly. My mom just started working there. She's a doctor in the clinic." I say wiping my mouth with my napkin.
"Hey baby," Katherine says walking up to Damon. She runs her hand through his messy black hair. He pushes her hand away.
"Don't hey baby me, Kat," Damon says his voice full of venom. "You need to stop with this shit already. It's over. It's been over."
"How many times do I have to tell you that it was a mistake?" she coos with a fake apologetic smile.
"One mistake was all it took." He says slamming his water down on the table. "Why don't you go cling onto Mason some more instead of wasting your time annoying me?'
I fake cough out slut. And she looks over, glaring at me.
"Problem?" she asks propping her hand on her hip.
"Hmm? Me? No. No problem." I say with a sickly-sweet smile.
Damon looks at me. Just staring at me. Judging probably.
"Why don't you go back to whatever barn you crawled out of," Katherine says rudely.
"And why don't you just learn to take a hint and fuck off?" I say.
Who does this bitch think she is? She doesn't even know me. I however know more than enough about her. Skank. I've dealt with girls like her before. I refused to acknowledge their presence and I plan to do the same with this girl.
"Kat, just go," Damon says. "I'm done with this. Go."
"Damn girl," Bonnie says shaking her head. "You're going to see that girl's wrath if you keep that up."
"Yeah, thanks for that by the way," says Damon insincerely. "You seem to have quite the mouth on you. Maybe you should learn when to keep it shut?"
"I'm sorry if the way she was acting was making me want to heave my lunch." I bite back. I push out my chair and stand up. I pick up my tray and turn to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie asks
"I'm going to spend the rest of my lunch period scoping out my other classes. I'll see you later." I say looking from her back to Damon.
I walk over to the trash can and empty my tray. I place it on the rest of the empty trays sitting on the table. I take out my schedule and class map, figuring out the fastest routes to my classes. Why did he have to be such an ass? I know for a fact I only said what everyone else was thinking. No harm in stating the truth. This day has gone spectacularly well. Not.
The school day comes to an end and the final bell rings. I make my way out of the computer science lab and head in the direction of the 200s wing. I see the group from lunch standing around Bonnie's locker.
I reach the locker and smile acknowledging her. She says hey and opens the locker for me. I reach in and grab my bag out of the bottom of her locker.
"Thanks for that," I say in acknowledgment of her letting me use her locker. "I need to change and then head over to the medical center."
I head across the hall for the restroom. I get in and shut the door behind me; locking in. Stripping out of my uniform, I dress in my baby pink scrubs. I put my school clothes in my backpack; along with my ankle boots and slip on my sneakers. I rake my fingers through my hair and flip my head to throw my hair into a messy bun. I exit the stall and look at myself in the mirror. I pull a few strands free; framing my face and leave the bathroom.
