Harm tried knocking, the toe of his sneakers tapping on the back door but his wife did not hear him. Mildly annoyed, he dumped the eight heavy bags of groceries on a small table and began to fish around his jeans for keys.

A new house meant a housewarming party or barbecue as the quaint home boasted a backyard that was quite large with a sizable swimming pool. The Indian summer made outdoor activities that more pleasant. And so he'd been put on grocery duty while Mac stayed behind to clean and prepare.

"Mac? Didn't you hear..." He all but yelled and stopped short when the smell of apples and cinnamon wafted through the open door. It was heavenly, homey and reminded him of the smell of warm apple pie baked by his grams when he was a child. Any ill temper vanished especially when he spotted Mac pulling a pan full of extravagantly large muffin looking things.

Her smile made his heart beat a little faster, especially when her eyes locked on his and he found a certain merriment reserved only for him. "You bake."

"I do." She set the pan on the island and grabbed another that went in next. After resetting the time, Mac tossed his lobster oven mitts on the counter and turned to find her husband poking at one if the deserts. "Tsk tsk tsk, Mr. Rabb. They need to cool."

Indeed they did as Harm learned when he tried to pick one up and immediately dropped it then licked his fingers to stymie the burn. "They smell like heaven, what are they?"

"Cinnamon Streusel Apple muffins...give me a minute."

Transfixed he watched her pull one large muffin out, then place it on a small plate. Mac grabbed homemade icing and drizzled a substantial amount across the top so that it spilled onto the plate. She then produces a fork, sank it into the muffin and raised it to Harm's mouth. "Tell me what you think."

She was a terrible cook although he'd taught her to master some simple dishes throughout the years. Harm was the family chef, the one who would experiment with new recipes and actually enjoyed making dinner. She was happy to help him by chopping ingredients, mixing the salad dressing or simply sampling his latest culinary masterpiece.

He didn't expect the muffin would be so good. The flavours burst in his mouth making him crave another bite which Mac enthusiastically fed him. "Wow."

"That's the best compliment I've ever had about my baking." Mac beamed. In fact, she was glowing which wasn't uncommon given her current condition and the two months left of her pregnancy. But at his comment, she practically radiated happiness. He was a lucky, lucky man.

Harm wrapped his arms around her, his lips found Mac's in a slow sweet kiss. He tasted of apples, sugar and cinnamon and as he broke the kiss his wife licked a little icing from his top lip. Inside her belly their little girl gave an excited kick which prompted Harm to bend down and place a kiss on Mac's belly. "I think she likes them too."
