A Human among Beastmen
Hey everyone, here's another BNA story for you. Sorry for the long wait I was distracted with other things and was have a bit of a writer's block. Anyways, I do not own any characters of the anime or the anime itself. I hope you all enjoy it and leave a comment on what you think of it. Now for the people who are reviewing the story.
ZILLAFAN: As I said, this isn't going to be a BNA/Godzilla crossover story and I've already chosen Shawn's beastman form. But if you're looking for a BNA/Godzilla crossover story, then you should check out Ultrahero74's story 'Godzilla: Titans Return'. It's only one chapter right now, but the next chapter should be up pretty soon. Also in this story, I have a OC in it that is able to transform into a Beastmen/Kaiju due to getting a accidental blood transfusion from a blood packet that held some of Godzilla's blood inside it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Nate-da-cool: Michiru is not Shawn's girlfriend...yet~ ;). That will come much later within the future chapters.
Guest: Let's just say that Blake will have a role within the story. What that role is, well you'll just have to find out and see.
Ironchef13: Sorry, sometimes my updates can be a little slow. But I'm glad that you're enjoying the story.
Chapter four: The end of normal days part 4
The next day of school came and Shawn was walking down the street with a frown upon his face. The reason for that expression was because he was not looking forward to facing Blake again. When it came to the weekend, Shawn was able to avoid any confrontation with his formal friend. But now that it was school, he had to sit in class while being alert to Blake's every movement.
'This sucks,' thought Shawn quietly to himself. 'With Blake in my class, I won't be able to concentrate with him glaring at my back all the time.'
"Hey Shawn!"
At his name, Shawn turned and his frown changed into a smile when he saw Michiru running up to him. He waited for her to catch up before the two of them started walking to school together. They walked in silence for a while before Michiru spoke up with a worried look upon her face.
"So...what are you gonna do when it comes to facing Blake again at school?"
Shawn let out a sigh before he answered: "I don't really know. All I can do is try to avoid him as much as I can. After that...I haven't really thought that far ahead yet."
"I just hope he doesn't make a scene at school," said Michiru with a frown appearing on her face.
"Ditto," spoke Shawn in agreement.
Realization then came over Michiru's face before she looked up at Shawn with a smile: "Hey, so when are you going to Mr. Kogi's dojo?"
"Right after school," answered Shawn as he smiled back at Michiru. "If things go well today, then I should be able to find Mr. Kogi's dojo without any trouble."
"You mind if I come with you to check it out?" asked Michiru as she folded her hands behind her back.
Shawn raised a curious eyebrow at his friend's request: "Why? You plan on taking up his defense class too?"
"No," answered Michiru with a chuckle. "You know that I'm more into basketball than anything else. But I am curious to see what your class will be like."
"Alright then," said Shawn with a smile. "You can come along to observe my trial run."
Michiru smiled back at Shawn before they turned to look ahead of them again. It wasn't long before they finally reached their school. At first, Shawn was apprehensive when he entered the building, but his apprehension was replaced by confusion when he didn't see Blake anywhere within the school. Nor did he see his ex-friend within his homeroom class either. This confused Shawn and he began to wonder where Blake had disappeared to. He decided to ask one of the boys within his class to see if they knew where Blake was. What he had learned left Shawn even more confused then ever. The boys told him that Blake had transferred to another school in Tokyo.
'Why would he suddenly transfer to a new school?' thought Shawn with a frown. 'That doesn't just doesn't make any sense.'
The day soon ended and the teens headed started to back to their respective homes. Shawn and Michiru had made a quick stop at their houses to change into their normal clothes before meeting up again at the park. Michiru was wearing a white short sleeved shirt and blue jean shorts, while Shawn wore his usual clothing. We now find them walking together as they headed down a lone street with Shawn telling Michiru about Blake transferring to a new school in Tokyo.
"That is strange," said Michiru with a frown.
"I know," spoke Shawn as he looked down at his phone's screen to see if they were heading in the right direction. "Which makes me wonder what he's really up to."
Michiru frowned and she couldn't help but think of the possibility that Blake was out hunting beastmen...or people who don't want to hunt beastmen. A shiver ran down Michiru's spine before she shook her head and turned her attention onto Shawn's phone.
"How far do you think Mr. Kogi's dojo is?" questioned Michiru curiously.
Shawn stared down at the screen of his phone for a moment before replying: "It says that the dojo is just down this street and across the road."
It wasn't long before they arrived at the place where the map on Shawn's smartphone had said the dojo would be. When they did, Shawn and Michiru blinked in surprise when they saw the dojo. The dojo that Kogi said he worked in was a medium sized building that stood in a large open area. The building was made into the style of a traditional Japanese style dojo with a stone pathway leading towards it. Standing on either side of the path were two lion dog statues that sat proudly upon their stone pedestals.
"Wow..." voiced Michiru as she and Shawn started walking down the stone path together. "This place sure is traditional for someone who is a street fighter."
"You can say that again," said Shawn as he took in his surroundings.
He then turned his attention towards the end of the path, which led to front door of the dojo with a large gong hanging off to the left side. Hanging on the right side of the gong was a mallet with a red ribbon tied around the wooden handle.
"I guess this must be the doorbell," said Shawn as he stared at the gong for a moment.
Michiru only nodded her head before Shawn lifted the mallet off from the hook. He made sure that he had a firm grip on the mallet before used it to hit the gong. When the mallet made contact with the gong, it let out a loud boom that rung throughout the grounds. Shawn and Michiru flinched at how loud the gong was as they brought their hands up to cover their ears. They waited for a moment before Shawn and Michiru lowered their hands from their ears. The two friends stared at the gong in amazement before Shawn was the first one to speak after a moment.
"Okay...that was loud," muttered Shawn as he placed the mallet back onto its hook.
"I guess it has to be loud for Mr. Kogi to know that someone is at the door," said Michiru as she glanced at Shawn with a smile.
Shawn smiled back at Michiru before they both heard the sound of feet walking towards the door. A moment later, the door slid open to revealed a tall woman, who looked to be twenty eight years old.
She had long bright red hair that grew down to the middle of her back, almond shaped honey brown eyes and fair skin. She wore a peach colored short sleeved shirt with a wide neck and a white thin strapped tank top underneath. She also wore blue jeans and tan slip on shoes with white soles underneath. The woman's long hair was in a low ponytail with a blue ribbon tied at the end, and around the woman's neck was a silver locket that hung upon a silver chain. She looked to be around the same height as Kogi.
The woman gave the two teenagers a smile before she spoke in a warm voice that was as soft as silk: "Welcome. Are you two here for Master Kogi's defense class?"
"Um...no, just me," answered Shawn before he gestured to Michiru. "My friend here just came along to watch me."
"Oh, is that so," spoke the woman with a nod of her head. "Then that's fine. My name is Akane and I'm Koji-san's assistant and healer here at the dojo."
"Nice to meet you Ms. Akane," said Michiru as she and Shawn politely bowed to her.
"Just call me Akane," said the woman with a chuckle before she turned sideways and gestured with her right hand. "Now, please follow me and I'll take you to the training room."
Shawn and Michiru nodded their heads before they followed Akane into the dojo. The two slipped off their shoes and left them at the door before Akane led them down a long hallway. The trio was quiet for a moment before they came to their destination, which were two large shoji doors with two black human figures painted on their surfaces. The figures were in fighting position as they faced each other on the two doors. Akane slid one of the doors open to reveal Kogi teaching a class that mainly had teenagers in it. Each of the teenagers were partnered up in two as they fought in different fighting styles. Kogi, with his back turned towards the door, watched his students closely before Akane spoke as she bowed to him.
"Kogi-san, you have a new student who wants to join your class."
Kogi turned to look behind him and smiled when he saw Shawn: "Well, about time you got here kid. I was beginning to wonder if you changed your mind about joining my class."
"We just got a little lost on our way here Mr. Koji," said Shawn with a sheepish smile on his face.
Kogi raised an eyebrow up in confusion when Shawn said 'we' before the adult noticed Michiru standing beside the male teen. A sly smile appeared on Kogi's face before he spoke.
"So...you brought your girlfriend along to watch your training, huh?"
Shawn and Michiru blinked in confusion before they quick glanced at each other. That was when they instantly figured out what Kogi had just said as their faces grew red with embarrassment.
"N-no, it's not what you think!" exclaimed Michiru as she waved her hands up in front of her.
"She's right!" said Shawn as his face burned bright red. "Michiru isn't my girl friend! She's just a friend that I knew since childhood!"
Kogi only smirked at the two teenager's reactions, while Akane smiled in amusement before speaking to Kogi in a gentle yet firm voice.
"Kogi-san, you shouldn't tease your new student for bringing a friend around to watch what we do here."
Kogi let out a light huff as he smiled at Akane before he looked back at Shawn: "So, you ready for your first lesson here kid?"
Shawn, after he and Michiru finally got their blushes under control, nodded his head with a confident look upon his face.
"Alright then," said Kogi as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Then let's start off by doing some stretching."
"Yes sir," said Shawn with a nod.
"Michiru, if you wish. You can take a seat just over there," spoke Akane as she pointed off to the side where a few Zabuto cushions sat.
"Okay thanks," said Michiru before she walked over to the cushions.
After that, Kogi showed Shawn some stretches that he needed to do before they got down to training. Some of the stretches that Shawn did had him stretching his body out to its limit. After he had finished stretching, Shawn stood up and faced Kogi with a serious expression upon his face.
"Alright rookie, we'll start off with a few simple techniques and fighting forms." Kogi said as he got into a fighting stance. "I'll show you some basic moves to help start you off."
"Okay," said Shawn with a nod.
Kogi then proceeded to demonstrate some basic moves of different fighting styles. Shawn watched intently as Kogi performed different fighting techniques before he tried them out himself. Michiru watched from the sidelines as Shawn took on a fighting stance and tried to mimic what Kogi had shown him. Akane, who had decided to sit beside Michiru on one of the cushions, also watched as Kogi helped Shawn with his fighting stance. After a moment of silence, Akane finally spoke to Michiru in a soft voice.
"Your friend sure seems determined to take up Kogi-san's class."
"Yeah he is," replied Michiru as she watched Shawn for a few moments before looking at Akane. "He's always been like this ever since we first met each other when we were kids."
"I see, so that means you two are pretty close then, huh?" questioned Akane with a smile.
"Yeah," answered Michiru with a nod. "He became my friend after he took on a couple of boys who were bullying me in fifth grade."
A soft expression appeared on Akane's face as she turned her eyes back onto Kogi and Shawn again. She gazed fondly at Kogi as the man corrected Shawn in his fighting stance.
"Your friend reminds me of someone else I knew from my childhood," said Akane with a smile.
Michiru looked up at Akane in surprise. The woman glanced down at Michiru for a sec before looking back at Shawn and Kogi again.
"A long time ago a boy also helped me when I was being bullied by a group of kids," said Akane as she explained her past to Michiru. "They gained up on me because I was...different. The boy didn't like what they were doing to me and thus got into a fight with them. That caused him to get into trouble with his parents, but despite that the boy winded becoming my friend in the end. Though, he had quite the temper back then, and always winded up getting into fights with those who ticked him off. Even when he grew up, he continued to fight against those who dared crossed his path. But that changed when he one day met a man that challenged him. After years of fighting, he became overconfident with the number of fights he won and accepted the man's challenge, only to wind up being beaten in the end. The man then offered to train my friend to become a better fighter, and to gain more control of his temper. It was through that man's training that my friend learned to be more level headed and to pick his battles carefully."
Michiru stared at Akane in amazement before she spoke: "So...what happened to him after that?"
"Oh...he decided to travel around the world and learn all about different fighting techniques from other countries. While also teaching others to be more patient and calm within their fights," answered Akane with a smile. "As for me, I became Kogi's assistant and healer to his dojo."
Michiru let out a hum before she turned to look back at Shawn once again. She saw Kogi demonstrating a block and strike combo before Shawn tried it out himself. After a moment of silence, Akane spoke up once again and it was in a voice that held soft warmth to it.
"Be lucky that you have someone like him as your friend. For I'm sure that he'll always stand by your side throughout tough situations you two might find yourselves in the future someday."
Michiru glanced up at Akane as she gazed up at the woman in confusion. She then decided not to think too hard on Akane's words and went back to watching Shawn's lesson. It was about an hour later that Kogi announced that lesson's were over. All of the students filed out of the dojo, while Michiru and Shawn hung back to talk with Kogi. Shawn was standing with an exhausted look upon his face, while sweat dripped down from his forehead.
"Are you okay?" asked Michiru with both a look of worry and amusement on her face.
"Y-yeah," replied Shawn as he gave Michiru a reassuring smile. "I just wasn't expecting Mr. Kogi to be so strict in teaching me how to do proper fighting stances."
"Well you'll find that my classes aren't going to be a cake walk kid," spoke Kogi as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I work my students hard in the art of combat to not only defend themselves, but to be aware of the dangers that lurk out in the streets. You have to be cautious of people who might take advantage of you or your friend if you're not careful out there."
Shawn looked up at Kogi in quiet astonishment before it changed to intense determination. He understood what the older man was saying for Shawn knew that life wasn't going to be kind to those who were naïve to the world around them.
"So, what's your verdict kid? Do you think that you can handle the classes that I do here within my dojo or not?" questioned Kogi as he stared intently down at Shawn.
The dojo became quiet as a tense aura floated within the training room. Michiru glanced between Shawn and Kogi with a look of worry upon her face, while Akane stood quietly beside Kogi with a calm expression upon her features.
After a moment of silence, Shawn finally spoke: "I'm not sure...but I want to at least try. As I said before; I want to become stronger in hopes of protecting those who aren't able to defend themselves."
Kogi stared down at Shawn who was looking up at him with determination shining within his eyes. After a moment, Kogi let out a huff of amusement before he spoke.
"You really are something else kid. If you feel that strongly about taking my class then so be it."
A large smile appeared on Shawn's face after hearing what Kogi had just said: "Really?"
"I don't kid around when it comes to letting new students join my dojo," replied Kogi as his expression turned serious. "Just make sure that you don't slack off when it comes to training both in and outside of the training room."
"Yes sir," said Shawn with a firm nod of his head.
"And another thing," added Kogi as he uncrossed his arms and placed his hands on his waist. "You're to call me sensei from now on. Not 'sir' or 'mister' or anything else. It makes me sound like an old man."
Shawn looked up at Kogi in surprise for a moment before smiling: "Yes...Sensei."
After that, Shawn and Michiru left the dojo as they made their way home together. Kogi and Akane watched them leave from the front door of the dojo before Kogi turned to look at Akane with a light frown.
"Honestly Akane. Did you have to tell Shawn's friend that story?" questioned Kogi as he crossed his arms over his chest.
Akane turned to look at Kogi with a smile on her face: "I could tell that Michiru isn't the type of girl to sit around for very long. So I thought that I'd pass the time by distracting her for a while until you were finished with teaching her friend."
Kogi gave Akane a glare before he sighed out in exasperation: "Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I even let you be my assistant and healer within my dojo."
"You know the reason," said Akane as she tucked her hands behind her back as a playful grin appeared on her face. "It's because you like me~"
A small blush appeared on Kogi's face before the man turned his head away: "I don't know what you're talking about."
Akane chuckled when she saw the blush on Kogi's face before her expression softened, and she spoke in a gentle voice.
"That boy reminds me of how determined you were when you had been his age."
"Yeah," said Kogi as the blush disappeared from his face and he looked back at Akane. "I have to admit, that kid has spirit and something else that I can't quite put my finger on."
Akane smiled at Kogi for a moment before turning her gaze back onto Shawn and Michiru: "I'm sure you'll find out what it is as you help him get stronger. Just like how your first teacher helped you learn what you needed to know."
Kogi let out a sigh before he gave Akane a small smile: "You're never going to let me live that down are ya?"
Akane only chuckled before wrapping her arms around Kogi's right arm: "Not for a long time."
The blush once again appeared on Kogi's face as he stared down at Akane, who hugged his arm tightly against her chest. He then huffed as he turned to look away from the Akane before muttering quietly to himself.
"Stupid, clingy cat woman."
Akane only hugged Kogi's arm as she gave the tall man a cat grin. The two then turned and headed back into the dojo, while closing the front door behind them.
Back with Shawn and Michiru, the two teens continued to walk down the street in silence for a while. Yet it was soon broken by Michiru, who stopped and looked up at Shawn with a light frown upon her face.
"Hey Shawn," said Michiru in a soft voice.
Shawn stopped and turned to look back at Michiru: "Yeah, what's up?"
"Well..." started Michiru but paused in hesitation.
Shawn stared at Michiru in concern before he walked over to her. He came to stand in front of his friend before he spoke gently to her.
"What's wrong?"
Michiru didn't answer for a moment, but when she finally did speak it was in a voice that held deep worry in it.
"Shawn...I know I encouraged you to take up Kogi's defense lessons, but after he told you that he wasn't going to go easy on you. I'm starting to second guess on whether taking up his class is a good idea."
"What do you mean?" questioned Shawn.
"Well...Kogi looks like the type of guy who doesn't go easy on people," answered Michiru as she turned her gazed towards the ground. "Not to mention that he looks kind of scary to me."
Shawn stared down at Michiru in astonishment before he smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder. Michiru looked up into Shawn's face and saw him giving her a reassuring smile.
"Michiru...I don't think Kogi is what you think he is," said Shawn in a gentle voice. "If he were a bad person then he wouldn't go to all this trouble in helping to learn how to defend myself."
"Yeah...but what if he puts you through something that's too hard and you wind up getting hurt?"
A soft frown appeared on Shawn's face as he took in Michiru's words. The two friends were silent for a moment before Shawn was the first one to move.
"Come here," said Shawn gently as he pulled Michiru towards him.
Michiru soon found herself being held by Shawn as he hugged her. Michiru was stunned by Shawn suddenly hugging her, but slowly relaxed as he began to speak.
"I can't promise you that I might wind up injuring myself in Kogi-sensei's training. After all, that just part of what we do when it comes to taking risks. But I can tell you this, no matter what kind of training I do in Kogi-sensei's dojo, I'll make sure not to do anything too crazy and injure myself in the process."
Michiru was silent for a moment before she spoke: "Do you promise?"
"I promise," said Shawn as he held his friend tighter. "Just have some faith in me, okay?"
Michiru smiled before she hugged Shawn back. She felt reassured by Shawn's words and was glad that he would try not to hurt himself too much within his training. Michiru was doubly glad that she had a friend like Shawn around to comfort her when she felt nervous or unsure about something. After a while, the two let go of each other and started walking down the street again as they headed for home.
To be continued
And this is the chapter. I hope you all enjoy it.
